The consecrated life is the following of Jesus Christ through a life of chastity, poverty and obedience. It was born in the Christian east of the undivided Church. From there it was transferred to the Christian west and took various forms. They were rejected by the Reformation. This state survived until the twentieth century. That can be called a kind of renaissance of consecrated life in the Protestant churches. The resulting monastic communities also open to other Christian denominations. The consecrated life filled with constant prayer leading to personal conversion and spousal union with Christ, which are considered the foundation of the ecumenical movement and its purpose.

Opis:
The issue of celibacy obligations for clerics according to the Code of Canon Law of 1983 was taken up in the article. This problem contains the following items: 1) theological and legal basis for the celibacy obligation; 2) celibacy obligation in the Code of Canon Law of 1983; 3) celibacy in selected documents issued after the Code of Canon Law of 1983; 4) conclusion. Legislator in can. 277, binding the clerics to celibacy, indicates the source of this obligation, what is the candidate’s own will to the orders. According to the can. 277, celibacy means chastity sensu stricto (in a perfect way). Canon Law regulation concerning celibacy law has a long Church tradition. When cleric does not obey this obligation, penal sanctions are applied. Celibacy which is voluntarily accepted and experienced in a proper way is a spiritual reality sign, contributes to the salvation of souls which is the supreme law in the Church.

The article discusses the influence of the way of the monastic dress code on helping nuns and monks stay on their spiritual path during formation. The Focus of the study are the rules for nuns and monks developed in the 6th and 7th centuries in Gaul and Spain. The authors of the rules were convinced that the very strict requirements regarding the clothing, as well as the behavior, of consecrated persons, serve the practice of seeking virtue through poverty, obedience and humility. It was required that all the inhabitants of a monastery should wear simple habits with natural colors that no one could consider to be their property. Attention was also paid to the asceticism of sight and the way of walking, which served to preserve the virtue of purity. For the same reason, one was not allowed to take too many baths, except in the case of disease. The whole life of the celibate nuns and monks should be focused on the caring for the development of their spiritual life, and not on the pursuit of external appearance. The humble acceptance of poor attire, temperance in care for the body, and the ability to exercise self-control his eyesight, testified to the spiritual maturity of the nun and the monk.

The paper presents the teaching of St. Caesarius of Arles on the subject of the cloister in the life of a nun. It was based on The Letter to Nuns and Rule for Virgins. Caesarian indications are redolent with severity. Under no circumstances were nuns allowed to leave the monastery. They were also very limited in their contacts with the guests, especially with men. All of this was to protect them against the danger coming from such meetings, among which above all the bishop of Arles mentions the temptations against the virtue of chastity. At the same time the monastery is presented as a place safe for the development of all virtues. It is here that every nun finds everything that leads her to the unity with Jesus Christ. That is why her heart should be filled with joy and gratitude towards God.

The phenomenon of “honour” crimes is definitely not new. Despite the fact that such cases took place hundreds or even thousands of years ago, nowadays problem is still actual. The issue occurs mostly in the Middle East and the Southern Asia, but as it is underlined in many reports, during last 20–30 years the phenomenon has expanded also in Europe. Simultaneously, the popular thesis is that “honour” crimes are strictly connected with Muslim culture as the majority of such crimes are committed by Muslims. Therefore, the author analyzes the phenomenon of “honour” crimes with regards to the Muslim’s concept of chastity. The main aim of this article is to decide if such (direct or indirect) connection exist or whether it is the effect of ‘islamophobia’.

W artykule omówiono kwestię czystości, jaką przedstawiono w Biblii, w Prawie Mojżeszowym. Prawodawca skoncentrował się na wielu aspektach czystości jako ważnego elementu ochrony rodziny i ciągłości pokoleniowej. W Biblii Izrael jest uważany za wielopokoleniową wspólnotę rodzin, w której panuje miłość, radość i szacunek do życia. Bóg Biblii chroni Izrael, zabraniając wielu zachowań seksualnych (zwłaszcza w obrębie relacji rodzinnych) i innych zboczeń. Kulty i uwielbienia wymagające seksualnej aktywności są nie do pomyślenia, zarówno w kontekście bałwochwalstwa, jak i w kontekście judaizmu. Rodzina jest zobowiązana chronić swoje córki, czyli młode pokolenie, od prostytucji, a nawet złej reputacji. Rodzice muszą uczyć swoje dzieci, aby zachowywały czystość i spełniały wszystkie wymagania Prawa Mojżeszowego dotyczące życia rodzinnego.
The paper discusses the issue of chastity as it is presented in the Law of Moses. Since the chastity is an important element of the family protection and generational continuity, the Lawgiver concentrated on many aspects of it. First of all, Israel is considered to be a community of families and a unity of long lasting generations. It is destined to celebrate life and to enjoy love and joy of a community. Second, Israeli people are strictly prohibited from a wide range of sexual behavior especially inside the family relations, and from various perversions. The cults and worship involving a sexual activity are unthinkable both in context of idolatry and in context of Judaism. Next, the family is obliged to protect its daughters, i.e. young generation, from prostitution and even bad reputation. And finally, parents have to teach their children to keep chastity and to fulfill all the requirements of the Law of Moses concerning family life.

Doceniając wartość dziewictwa poświęconego Bogu, Kościół bardzo wcześnie stworzył liturgiczne obrzędy przyjęcia w stan, określany jako dziewictwo konsekrowane. Na przestrzeni wieków modlitwa konsekracyjna została ubogacona innymi obrzędami liturgicznymi i tak powstały Obrzędy konsekracji dziewic, które stały się częścią Pontyfikału rzymskiego. Nowa księga liturgiczna ma dwa obrzędy konsekracji dziewic. Pierwszy do-tyczy konsekracji dziewic żyjących w świecie, a drugi konsekracji mniszek. Ten drugi obrzęd łączy profesję zakonną z konsekracją dziewic. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie teologicznego i symbolicznego znaczenia poszczególnych obrzędów, składających się na konsekrację dziewic. Przedstawione zostaną także dodatkowe elementy, które są charakterystyczne dla profesji mniszek.
The article discusses both the theology and liturgy of the Consecration of Virgins on the basis of the renewed “Rite of Consecration of Virgins” after Vatican II. The new rites which refer to the most ancient consecrated life traditions in the Church have a structure marked by simplicity and contain a deep theology of consecrated life. The Rite presents the consecration of virgins as a par-ticular type of a constitutive blessing which can be bestowed only once in a lifetime. Through her consecration, the virgin enters into a unique and particular relationship with Christ and the Church, as she becomes His bride. Virginity constitutes a continuation and a completion of the baptismal consecration. The liturgical texts show that it is the initiative and the gift of God who makes present the bridal love of Christ for the Church. Consecrated virginity is shown as the fruit of the action of the Holy Spirit. Consecrated persons foreshadow the eschatological times and the new reality which will become the lot of the faithful in the Heavenly Jerusalem. The Rite clearly emphasizes the eschatological aspect of virginity with many references to the Eucharist and the offertory gifts which are consecrated during the Eucharistic Prayer.

Klementyna Staszczak – sister Maria Klara was born in Zdzarach in wlodzimierski county on November 6th 1905. In 1922 she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Benedictine Missionaries. She took her initial vows of chastity on August 15, 1924 in Kowal and her everlasting vows on August 15, 1931 in Luck. From 1924 to 1943, from 1971 to 1986, and from 1989 to 1991 she lived in Ukraine. Sister Klara Staszczak particularly loved the region of Estern Boderlands to which she was wholeheartedly devoted. Her faith, life in her everyday prayer, as well as her commitment to overcoming the hardships required when walking according to the Gospel and God’s commandments, shaped her heroism in realization of the covenant’s consecration. Her ability to heroically overcome the difficulties arising on the way of the renewing of the Congregation on the Estern Boderlands, show how strongly sister Klara was unified with Christ. Thanks to her absolute devotion to Jesus as her Lord and Savior and her bona fide work, rooted in the spirit of the rules of St. Benedict, sister Klara was successful in initiating and developing the activity of the Congregation of the Sisters of Benedictine Missionaries in Ukraine. Her whole life was devoted to serve God, Church, Congregation, and to other men, especially those who were in most need of the Gospel care. She died on June 6th 1991 in Bar in Podole region and was buried there. To this day sisters in Ukraine are continuing the spiritual heritage of the Founding Mother, which sister Klara, after 60 years of nun’s absence, was able to re-establish in the Estern Boderlands region.
Klementyna Staszczak – s. Maria Klara urodziła się 6 listopada 1905 roku w Żdżarach w powiecie włodzimierskim. W 1922 roku wstąpiła do Zgromadzenia Sióstr Benedyktynek Misjonarek. Pierwsze śluby zakonne złożyła 15 sierpnia 1924 roku w Kowlu, śluby wieczyste – 15 sierpnia 1931 roku w Łucku. Na Ukrainie przebywała w latach 1924–1943; 1971–1986; 1989–1991. Siostra Klara Staszczak szczególnie umiłowała Kresy Wschodnie, którym oddała całe swe serce. Heroizm realizacji konsekracji zakonnej s. Klary ukształtowała wiara, przeżywana w codziennej modlitwie oraz podejmowanym trudzie kroczenia drogą przykazań i Ewangelii. Heroiczne wręcz pokonywanie trudności na drodze odnawiającego się zgromadzenia na Kresach Wschodnich pokazuje silne zjednoczenie s. Klary z Chrystusem. Dzięki całkowitemu oddaniu siebie Jezusowi jako Panu i Zbawicielowi oraz rzetelnej pracy w duchu Reguły św. Benedykta, s. Klarze udało się na nowo zaszczepić i rozwinąć działalność Zgromadzenia Sióstr Benedyktynek Misjonarek na Ukrainie. Całe jej życie było służbą Bogu, Kościołowi, zgromadzeniu i drugiemu człowiekowi, szczególnie temu najbardziej potrzebującemu ewangelicznej troski. Zmarła 19 czerwca 1991 roku w Barze na Podolu, tam też została pochowana. Do dnia dzisiejszego siostry na Ukrainie kontynuują spuściznę duchową matki założycielki, którą s. Klara po 60 latach nieobecności sióstr na Kresach Wschodnich zaszczepiła na nowo na tej ziemi.

The present paper deals with consecrated virgins being an individual form of consecrated life. At the very beginning, the problem of definition of consecrated persons and of the profession of evangelical counsels as their characteristic feature is discussed. Then the attention is focused on the specificity of consecrated virgins who take only one vow – the vow of chastity. Some remarks considering this vow were given, then the other evangelic counsels: poverty and obedience, being realised in the reality of diocesan Church. The poverty was related to the Church property and to the fifth precept of the Church, while the obedience, which refers to Christ, was associated with the hierarchical structure of the Church and the Commandment of Love, and was considered as the obedience to the word of God and to the hierarchy of the Church. The last part discusses the problem of freedom and voluntariness in practicing the evangelical counsels.
W artykule poruszono zagadnienie dziewic konsekrowanych jako indywidualnej formy życia konsekrowanego. Na samym początku poruszono kwestię określenia osób konsekrowanych i profesji rad ewangelicznych jako cechy ich charakteryzującej. Następnie uwaga została skoncentrowana na specyfice dziewic konsekrowanych, które składają tylko jeden ślub – ślub czystości. Najpierw zostały podane pewne uwagi dotyczące tego ślubu. W dalszej kolejności była mowa o dwóch radach ewangelicznych: ubóstwie i posłuszeństwie realizowanych w konkretach Kościoła diecezjalnego. Ubóstwo zostało powiązane z dobrami Kościoła i piątym przykazaniem kościelnym, natomiast posłuszeństwo, które odnosi się do Chrystusa, zostało powiązane z hierarchicznym ustrojem Kościoła oraz przykazaniem miłości i było rozpatrywane jako posłuszeństwo słowu Bożemu i przełożonym w Kościele. Na samym końcu zostało poruszone zagadnienie wolności i dobrowolności w stosowaniu rad ewangelicznych.

Jedną z form przygotowania narzeczonych do sakramentu małżeństwa są katechezy przedmałżeńskie zalecane w Dyrektorium Duszpasterstwa Rodzin. Najczęściej obejmują one 10-12 katechez podejmujących najważniejsze zagadnienia dotyczące katolickiego małżeństwa i rodziny. W referacie przedstawiono krótką charakterystykę uczestników katechez oraz omówiono treści prezentowane na spotkaniach realizowanych w archidiecezji poznańskiej. Wobec rosnących wskaźników rozpadu związków małżeńskich wskazano na szczególne znaczenie rozumienia sakramentalności małżeństwa. Na podstawie wieloletnich doświadczeń uzasadniono celowość podejmowania w ramach katechez problematyki sakramentalności małżeństwa jako jednego z najważniejszych zagadnień. W ramach pracy dyplomowej wykonanej na Podyplomowym Studium Rodziny UAM dokonano oceny prowadzonych katechez w kilku parafiach Poznania, potwierdzając w ogólności pozytywny odbiór ich treści oraz formy. Przytoczono część wyników badań ankietowych dotyczących sakramentu małżeństwa i wykazano pozytywne zmiany postaw w odniesieniu do istoty sakramentalnego związku małżeńskiego. W końcowej części referatu sformułowano ogólne wnioski.
Premarital catechizing recommended in the Directory for the Pastoral Care of the Family is one of the forms of the engaged couple's preparation to the sacrament of matrimony. It includes typically 10 to 12 catechizing meetings, which apply to the most important issues of Catholic marriage and the family. The present paper provides a short characterization of the participants and the content presented during the meetings held in the Archdiocese of Poznań. An increasing rate of marriage breakdowns shows the great importance of understanding the sacramentality of marriage. On the basis of long-term experience it is purposeful to include the issue of matrimonial sacramentality within the scope of catechizing meetings as one of the most important problems. Within the framework of the present study written at AMU Postgraduate Family Studies evaluation of catechizing in several parishes in Poznan has been done, which confirmed the generally positive perception of its form and content. A part of the questionnaire results related to the sacrament of marriage have been adduced and some positive changes in the attitudes towards the essence of matrimony have been proved. In the final part of the paper some general conclusions have been formulated.

Maryja nie tylko jest Matką Jezusa i Matką Kościoła, ale jest także małżonką św. Józefa i dlatego może inspirować współczesne małżeństwa. Przez to, że jest Dziewicą a jednocześnie Oblubienicą św. Józefa, swoim życiem jeszcze bardziej kieruje naszą uwagę na wartości, które leżą u podstaw relacji małżeńskich: wyłączność, zaufanie do współmałżonka, szacunek i czystość. Czystość małżeńska, której nie można mylić z dziewiczością, jest pożądaną postawą przez małżonków, gdyż jest umocnieniem prawdziwej miłości. Pisali już o tym ojcowie Kościoła, a szczególnie św. Jan Chryzostom. Odwaga Maryi w realizacji swego powołania małżeńskiego może pobudzić odwagę małżeństw w zachowywaniu przysięgi małżeńskiej.
Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also St Joseph’s wife, and so she may inspire the contemporary marriages. Being both a virgin and Joseph’s spouse she directs our attention to the values which form the basis of marital relationships: exclusivity, confidence, mutual respect and chastity. Marital chastity, which is not to be confused with virginity, is the desired behaviour in every marriage, as it is the consolidation of true love. It was already the subject of investigation for the Church Fathers, in particular for St John Chrysostom. Opis:
Human sexuality is a value of exceptional importance both for particular individuals and society as a whole. Therefore it calls for protection. This protection consists of moral norms that the Catholic Church has clearly and unambiguously exposed in her documents. The mass media, however, advocate permissivism and moral liberalism, materialism, hedonism, and consumerism. They may confuse their recipients with regard to valid norms of sexual behaviour. Approving that man will not be truly happy if he rejects the laws written in his nature by God (HV 31), and assuming responsibility for one's own development and formation of the young generation, we should state that it is extremely needed to remind people of teaching in the sphere of sexual morality. It contains especially hints on premarital chastity, marital faithfulness, and indissolubility of marriage.

The love, sexuality and the punishment in the Macedonian traditional culture is considered on the basic of the ethnological-anthropological analyze. The analyze is based on the oral stories, ritual practices and oral poetry, which I take as means of communication. The love and the love emotions were in accordance with social and cultural criteria of the community in which occurred. This means that the love emotions, primarily the sexual emotions, had to be controlled, or to be shown as much as the traditional culture allowed. In general this was meant for the women and the maidens, „a woman’s chastity”, that implies the women’s purity and innocence. Otherwise the punishment commences. The betrayed young woman that has totally surrendered to the love emotions or the unjustly accused wife of infidelity is reaching towards the curse in order to satisfy the justice.

The article is divided into two paragraphs. The first paragraph presents St. Augustine’s opinion on the husband as a person. His remarks on the appearance as well as the personal values of a man and husband are discussed.The second paragraph deals with the issue of personality formation, including such points as the care to form moral goodness, especially the virtues of chastity and continence. This paragraph also considers St. Augustine’s view on concupiscence. The bishop of Hippo not only assesses concupiscence but also gives encouragement to overcome it and at the same time suggests methods that enable its control.Keywords

Issues related to the eroticism frequently appear in the media and this is the context in which the authors of the following text concentrated on a closely related and yet opposing matter. They decided to ask about the broadly defined chastity and the purity of heart, mind and body (the terms chastity and purity, as well as unchastity and impurity, shall be used interchangeably). How is this topic presented by the contemporary media? Simultaneously, they ask how the issues related to the lack of such purity, e.g. in the physical context, are treated by the media. The authors made an attempt to explain this by presenting a comparative analysis of two films they chose as serving best for their purpose. The first is50 Shades of Grey, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, and the other Caroline, directed by Dariusz Regucki. During the first stage of this research of notions and chastity and unchas-tity have been defined, on the basis of the proper reference books. Next, the chosen movies were analysed thoroughly, in order to define the true look of the purity and impurity noticeable in both movies – in their activities, as well as in the behaviour and dialogues of the main protagonists. The third stage of the research assumed creating a synthesis of the material achieved on the basis of analysing the two pictures. At this moment it became possible to present the conclusions, pointing out, first of all, that the media are rather poorly interested in the subject of chastity. However, this inspired the authors to drawing other conclusions in the form of the postulates, concerning how the media presents the subjects of purity and impurity.
