Opis:
Environmental laboratory tests are one of the most frequently performed tests to evaluate materials used, among others, for the construction of rail vehicles. The requirements of the EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for research laboratories, particularly when evaluating the compliance of materials with the specified requirements, impose on laboratories the need to consider the results of final measurements along with the uncertainties of these results. Due to the complexity of the physical and chemical processes occurring during environmental tests, determining the sources of uncertainty of the measurement result can be very complicated. The article presents one of the methods of estimating the complex uncertainty for environmental tests on the example of corrosion tests using the NORDTEST TR 537 concept of uncertainty estimation. The article presents an exemplary method of uncertainty estimation based on a set of empirical data obtained in an accredited Laboratory for Testing Materials and Structural Elements of the Railway Institute with the use of within-laboratory reproducibility and method bias. Examples of uncertainty estimation depending on the type of tested objects (metal details and paint coatings) and the method of their evaluation after corrosion tests (quantitative and qualitative methods) are presented. The article also briefl y presents the possibilities of interpreting and processing the obtained data as part of the control carried out inside the laboratory on the basis of a simple statistical tool such as Shewhart control charts and the Ishikawa diagram for the method of determining corrosivity in salt chambers, identifying important factors influencing the measurement uncertainty and at the same time showing the complexity the entire research process.

Martin Luther was a prominent person who had a great impact on 16th century Europe. Some people regarded him as a distinguished religious leader and reformer who noticed the need to improve the situation in the Catholic Church, while others saw him as a heretic who caused a split within the Church. He and everything related to him attracted significant interest of both his contemporaries and people living in later times. Astrology was a field of study which, in the Middle Ages and early modern times, explained all events by means of planetary determinism or predestination, particularly by the Saturn and Jupiter conjunction. In the Jagiellonian Library, there is a text which has not been discussed before, entitled Nativitas Martini Luther, heretici, which consists of a birth chart, a fragment of Luther's letter to his father in 1521, as well as a iudicium. The article contains a detailed analysis of this horoscope and a source annex with the text of the source.

The purpose of this article is to provoke a discussion on the inclusion of blind scoring in evidentiary examinations as a standard procedure. Resorting to such a method should curb the impact of cognitive bias on interpreting test data as it has been proved empirically that information on the case facts and the examinee, provided to the examiner before the examination, may influence the subsequent interpretation of the charts.

This study is an attempt to determine the control parameters of the control system for gaseous fuels currently used for driving vehicles. It presents the selected dynamic parameters of the car obtained when fueling the engine with petroleum-based LPG. This paper attempts to determine the optimal timing advance of the gas-air mixture and the efficiency of its processing in the drive system of the tested vehicle driven by a four-cylinder engine with a 1.6 dm. More so, this article includes an analysis of the influence of the optimised power charts of the engine on the dynamics of the motion of a motor vehicle running on gaseous fuel. To present changes in the dynamics of movement, indicators and parameters determining changes in the dynamics of vehicle movement, such as dynamic coefficient, acceleration and flexibility were used. Through this analysis, it is possible to verify the optimised power and torque waveform and determine whether the vehicle dynamics improved.

Opis:
This paper deals with the methodology for practical application of nonparametric control charts. This topic is very important for two reasons: firstly nonparametric control charts are very effective instruments for the realization of the statistical process monitoring phase I due to their robustness against various deviations from the data assumptions that must be met when applying model-based control charts. Secondly nonparametric control charts have very weak SW support and also they are not taught in the frame of training courses not even of the university study programmes. For that reason the practitioners do not know them and do not use them. The paper offers the proposal how to practically apply these control charts which is based on the complex simulation study of various nonparametric control charts performance when various data assumptions have not been met. The study has covered these nonparametric control charts: Shewhart sign control chart, nonparametric EWMA and nonparametric CUSUM control charts, nonparametric progressive mean control chart, control chart based on Mood statistics and robust median absolute deviation control chart. All charts have been studied in condition of not normally distributed data, autocorrelated data and data with nonconstant distribution parameters. The simulations were realized for statistically stable (IC – in control) and also statistically unstable (OC – out of control) processes. For the evaluation of the control charts performance median run length, 0.05-quantile, and 0.95-quantile were used.

Opis:
Navigational charts are essential tools for marine navigation. But how accurate are the navigational charts that we use when going sailing? Do we really know how much faith can be placed in them? All charts, whether paper or electronic, contain data, which varies in quality due to the age and accuracy of individual surveys. In general, remote areas away from shipping routes tend to be less well surveyed, and less frequently, while areas of high commercial traffic are re-surveyed frequently to very high levels of accuracy, particularly where under-keel clearances are small. It is quite accurate to consider a chart as a jigsaw of individual surveys pieced together to form a single image. Having the necessary skills to determine how much confidence should be placed in the surveys, which combine to form a chart, should be a requirement for any sailor venturing into unfamiliar waters. When the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) developed the S-57 standard for Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs), this problem was recognized and it was decided that the quality of survey data used to compile ENCs had to be encoded within a composite data quality indicator ‘Category of Zone of Confidence’ (CATZOC) to assist seafarers in assessing hydrographic survey data and the associated level of risk of navigating in a particular area. According to IHO S-67, the accuracy of Electronic Navigational Charts is not impressive and leaves much to be desired. The author discusses these apparent shortcomings of ENCs and present erroneous approaches to this problem, so common in the seafaring community.

This article is a result of research carried out in foundry casting steel castings for the railway industry. The smelting process (smelting) in induction furnaces, in terms of the compatibility of the actual chemical elements in the metal with the composition laid down in the technological instructions, was included in the study program. In practice, the actual content of elements is determined by the static spectral analysis method and recorded in the documentation created by the traditional record. Entries are evaluated only in terms of compliance with technological instructions, which does not translate into improvement in the quality of the melt as a function of the duration of the production process. The introduction of time analysis in the melting range allows to take into account the variability of a number of factors affecting the actual (final) content of the elements and thus the quality of the cast. An example of time analysis presented in the article is the ability to use I / MR control cards for individual (single) observations composed of smelting processes and CUSUM cards that enable the detection of factor variability based on cumulative sums. Cards of this type can be helpful in achieving the quality of alloys in real time of the melting process.

Opis:
The history of the development of military aeronautical charts began immediately before the First World War. The first charts created at that time did not differ much from topographic maps. Air planes were fairly slow back then and had a small range of action, which meant that the charts were developed at the scale of 1:200,000. When speed of aircraft increased, it soon turned out that this scale was too large. Therefore, many countries began to create charts with smaller scales: 1:300,000 and 1:500,000. The International Map of the World 1:1,000,000 (IMW) was frequently used for continental flights prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, while 1:3,500,000 and 1:5,000,000 maps were commonly used for intercontinental flights. The Second World War brought a breakthrough in the field of aeronautical chart development, especially after 7 December 1941, when the USA entered into the war. The Americans created more than 6000 map sheets and published more than 100 million copies, which covered all continents. In their cartographic endeavours, they were aided foremost by the Brits. On the other hand, the Third Reich had more than 1,500 officers and about 15,000 soldiers and civil servants involved in the development of maps and other geographic publications during the Second World War. What is more, the Reich employed local cartographers and made use of local source materials in all the countries it occupied. The Germans introduced one new element to the aeronautical charts – the printed reference grid which made it easier to command its air force. The experience gained during the Second World War and local conflicts was for the United States an impulse to undertake work on the standardization of the development of aeronautical charts. Initially, standardization work concerned only aeronautical charts issued by the US, but after the establishment of NATO, standardization began to be applied to all countries entering the Alliance. The currently binding NATO STANAGs (Standardization Agreements) distinguish between operational charts and special low-flight charts. The charts are developed in the WGS-84 coordinate system, where the WGS-84 ellipsoid of rotation is the reference surface. The cylindrical transverse Mercator projection was used for the scale of 1:250,000, while the conformal conic projection was used for other scales. The first aeronautical charts issued at the beginning of the 20th century contained only a dozen or so special symbols concerning charts’ navigational content, whereas currently the number of symbols and abbreviations found on such charts exceeds one hundred. The updating documents are published every 28 days in order to ensure that aeronautical charts remain up-to-date between releases of their subsequent editions. It concerns foremost aerial obstacles and air traffic zones. The aeronautical charts published by NATO have scales between 1:50,000 and 1:500,000 and the printed Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), while the aeronautical charts at scales between 1:250,000 and 1:2,000,000 contain the World Geographic Reference System (GEOREF). Nowadays, modern military air planes are characterised by their exceptional combat capabilities in terms of speed, range and manoeuvrability. Aside from aircraft, contemporary armed forces make increasingly frequent use of aerial robots, drones and unmanned cruise missiles. This is why, there has been a noticeable increase, especially in NATO, in the amount of work devoted to the standardization and development of aeronautical charts, as well as deepening of knowledge of navigation and aeronautical information.

Navigational charts are a basic source of information for seafarers. But how accurate and reliable are they? How much trust and confidence can be put in them? Unfortunately, the answer is not so simple; it is far more complicated than merely saying that one chart is accurate and reliable while another is not. However, any seafarer navigating in unfamiliar waters should have the necessary skills. It is a great challenge – some may say an impossibility – to keep the thousands of navigational charts up to date. But exactly how out of date, how inaccurate, are the chart data? Chart users will have a better idea now that the Hydrographic Office is gradually implementing a new chart feature called the Zone of Confidence (ZOC) box which replaces the Source Diagram that is currently in use on large-scale charts. Source Diagrams, and now the improved ZOCs, assist seafarers in assessing hydrographic survey data and the associated levels of risk of navigating in a particular area. According to the new edition of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) specifications, S-4 navigational charts will provide more information on ZOCs. The current paper discusses these new regulations.

The aim of the research was the evaluation of wastewater management in terms of stability and efficiency of wastewater treatment, using statistical quality control. For this purpose, the analysis of the operation and operation of the “Kujawy” Sewage Treatment Plant was made, which is one of the most important and largest sewage management facilities in the city of Cracow. This assessment was done using control charts x for 59 observations. The analysed research period covered the multi-year from 2012 to 2016. Five key pollutant indicators were used to evaluate the work of the tested object: BOD5 , CODCr, total suspension, total nitrogen and total phosphorus. In the case of the majority of them, based on the analysis of control charts, full stability of their removal was found in the tested sewage management facility. The exception was total nitrogen, for which periods of disturbed stability of its disposal processes were noted. Analysis of the effectiveness of wastewater treatment showed each time that the required efficiency of reduction of the analysed pollution indicators in the “Kujawy” Sewage Treatment Plant was achieved.
