The article features an analysis of Ukrainian commercial slogans, carried out on the basis of theory and the classification of speech acts by J. Searle, as well as the typology of advertising microacts by K. Skowronek. Such an analysis enables one to track the characteristics of advertising discourse and to define a commercial message as an indirect speech act. This essay also tries todescribe the catchphrases used in advertising from the perspective of Grice’s conversational maxims, which led to the formulation of the following thesis: in order to achieve their aims, the authors of advertising texts are ready to violate any of the aforementioned rules.

The aim of this article is to present the profile of a ‘good’ foreign language teacher,which has been created on the basis of the comments made by about 230 students of modern languages at Polish institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) in two voivodeships of Poland, namely Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Wielkopolska Voivodeship. In this image, teacher personality traits, the majority of which are regarded as values not only in professional life (e.g. in the teaching profession), but also in personal life, have ranked the highest. Personality traits have overshadowed the other two groups of qualities, which foreign language teachers are also equipped with, i.e. didactic and glottodidactic ones. This study is part of a larger research project covering all types of schools in Poland (from primary schools, through middle and secondary schools, to colleges and universities)

In this article, there is resumed the accomplished impact analysis of biodegradable tractor oil HYDROS UNI application in gear - hydraulic circuit of the tractor Zetor Proxima 7441. This analysis was performed by comparative testing with standard mineral oil PP 80 on the basis of decelometric trials. Decelometric trials were carried out with measuring device XL - MeterTM Pro Gamma. The measurements were executed by the 3rd and the 4th unreduced gear. The results show that the oil HYDROS UNI does not affect decelometric characteristics of the tractor Zetor Proxima 7441.

Opis:
Characteristics of rainfall rate useful in the estimation of attenuation due to rain are presented. Rain data collected at Ogbomoso between January-October, 2009 were used in the analysis. Result shows that power law relationship exists between the equiprobable rain rates of two different integration times. The value of conversion factor CE and CR obtained for Ogbomoso are 0.28(60) and 0.64(90) respectively. Our result then shows that different conversion factor is required for different location even within the same climatic region.

The aim of this article is to present a portrait of the so-called good foreign language teacher, which has been created on the basis of the comments made by about 850 Polish students of modern languages, and students representing various types of schools (from primary schools, through middle schools, to secondary schools). In this picture, teacher personality traits, the majority of which are regarded as values not only in professional life (e.g. in the teaching profession), but also in personal life, have ranked the highest. Personality traits have overshadowed the other two groups of qualities which foreign language teachers are also equipped with, i.e. didactic and glottodidactic ones. The presentation of the research results has been preceded by a theoretical part where teacher personality and its role in (language) education have been briefly discussed.

Opis:
Aim: The text focuses on the differences between male and female homelessness in the Czech Republic. Homeless men exhibit different characteristics in some respects compared to homeless women, and the above also applies to their chosen strategies of action in the context of living on the streets. Firstly, the known facts concerning the observed differences are presented in this paper in order to subsequently identify them in the statements of individual respondents. Methods: The data are collected through semi-structured interviews with homeless men. A total of 7 male respondents were contacted, and additionally 2 homeless women to illustrate the topic under study. Results: Attention was focused on the reasons that led to the interviewees becoming homeless, as well as on practices related to living on the streets and finally on possible barriers that prevent them from returning to the centre of society. Conclusions: The text is intended to lead to an understanding of the perspectives of homeless men that may be a barrier to help from society. At the end of the text, several recommendations are put forward which could help in the process of providing assistance.

Pyrus ×myloslavensis is a hybrid with intermediate characteristics of leaves and fruits inherited from its parental species P. salicifolia and P. communis. The aim of this study was to determine whether these intermediate nature of this taxon would be visible in the pollen and seed anatomy and morphology. In addition, the authors evaluated self-compatibility and crossability based on the observation of pollen tube growth. The investigations were carried out using light, fluorescence and electron microscopies and flow cytometer. Based on pollen and seed morphology the current study confirmed a hybrid origin of the investigated taxon. Especially, pollen grains had most features similar to both parental species. In respect to epidermal micromorphology, the seeds of P. ×myloslaviensis were like P. salicifolia, but anatomical structure of the seed coat of the hybrid was more consistent with P. communis. The data obtained from the current experiment showed that P. ×myloslavensis was self-incompatible and cross-compatible only with one of four tested P. communis cultivars (‘Conference’) and with P. salicifolia. In turn, the average genome size of the hybrid was smaller than putative parents.

To study the force and deformation characteristics of subsea mudmat-pile hybrid foundations under different combined loads, a project at a water depth of 200 m in the South China Sea was studied. A numerical model of a subsea mudmatpile hybrid foundation is developed using the numerical simulation software FLAC3D. The settlement of the seabed soil, the bending moments of the mudmat, and the displacements and bending moments along the pile shaft under different load combinations, including vertical load and horizontal load, vertical load and bending moment, and horizontal load and bending moment load, are analyzed. The results indicate that settlement of the seabed soil is reduced by the presence of piles. The settlement of the mudmat is reduced by the presence of piles. Different degrees of inclination occur along the pile shaft. The angle of inclination of pile No. 1 is greater than that of pile No. 2. The dip directions of piles No. 1 and No. 2 are identical under the vertical load and bending moment and are opposite to those under the other combined loads. The piles that are located at the junctions between the mudmat and the tops of the piles are easily destroyed.

The aim of the study was to establish psychological characteristics of overweight and obese women and to delineate the similarities and differences of this characteristics between women with overweight and obesity and women with normal weight. 80 women aged 48, with increased body mass index (43 with overweight – BMI = 25.1A˛30 and 37 with obesity – BMI > 30) and 80 women at similar age (average 46,8) with normal weight participated in the study. Various techniques were used: Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, Life Orientation Test, Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale, 3-factors Personality States and Traits Questionnaire, Kuhl Action Control Scale, Perceived Stress Scale and Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS). The results indicate that women with overweight and obesity reveal lower level of personal resources such as self-efficacy, self-esteem and level of optimism. Obese women elicited beliefs in powerful others in health locus of control. Obese subjects stronger perceive stress than women with normal weight. In coping with stress they use less task, and more avoidance strategies.

Ghosts have been an attractive element of operatic dramaturgy since the beginning of the genre’s history, and their stage presence influences the metaphysical and fantastic features of the works. In seventeenth- and eighteenth-century operas, conventional forms of musical presentation and characteristics of ghosts were developed, and in the nineteenth century a conventionalized method of musical presentation of ghosts in opera was shaped, which was also due to the great popularity of the theme of various spectres and phantoms in romantic culture. The proposed systematics concerns the ghosts presented in operatic works. Three criteria of division have been introduced: the existential status of ghosts, their number (singularity or multiplicity), and the types of afterlife the ghosts are associated with. The systematics is accompanied by the distinction of the means of musical characteristics used by opera composers in order to suggestively represent ghosts in their works.

The stochastic processes theory provides concepts and theorems that allow to build probabilistic models concerning incidents or (and) accidents. Counting processes are applied for modelling accidents number in Baltic Sea region in the given time interval. A crucial role in construction of the models plays a Poisson process and its extensions especially a nonhomogeneous Poisson process. The models of accidents number in the sea and seaports are here presented. Moreover some procedures of the model parameters identification are presented in the paper. Estimation of model parameters was made based on data from reports of HELCOM (2014) and Interreg project Baltic LINes (2016-2019).

Opis:
The importance of rocks and rock aggregates cannot be overemphasized in construction and concrete design globally. This study evaluated the physical and mechanical characteristics of fine grained granite, porphyritic granite, quartzite, granite gneiss, migmatite gneiss and charnockite from ten different locations in Akure for their suitability as construction materials. Field observation, water absorption, specific gravity, shape indices, aggregate impact value (AIV), aggregate crushing value (ACV), Los Angeles abrasion value (LAAV), compressive strength, tensile strength and petrography of the selected rocks were evaluated. The field studies indicate fresh outcrops with little signs of weathering. Porphyritic granite shows a higher water absorption value >1%, suggestive of its unsuitability as foundation materials in water logged areas. The higher flakiness and elongation indices of porphyritic granite, quartzite and migmatite gneiss are detrimental to the higher workability and stability of mixes. AIV (14.79–23.52%), ACV (18.32–28.93%) and LAAV (25.22–34.55%) showed that granite, granite gneiss and charnockite have good soundness and hardness with greater resistance to wear. Higher strength values of all the rocks were found to be satisfactory for use in the production of aggregates for civil constructions. Petrographic analysis revealed similarities in the compositions of the rocks, with quartz being the dominant mineral. The results show that all the rock types possess the required quality standards for use as construction aggregates in highway pavements and foundations. Some of the aggregates (GG1, GG2, GF, GC, MG1, CK1 and CK2) are also suitable for bituminous mixes. Quartzite should be avoided in load bearing masonry units due to its lower strength values. The most suitable rocks proven as road and building stones are fine grained granite, granite gneiss and charnockite because of their low water absorption, low flakiness and elongation indices, low abrasion values, higher strength values (tensile strength and unconfined compressive strength) and sound petrographic characters. Thus, adequate knowledge of rocks and rock aggregates is crucial in order to prevent continuous structural failure around the globe and make the environment friendlier.

Badanie to jest częścią większego projektu badawczego obejmującego wszystkie typy szkół w Polsce (oprócz wspomnianych gimnazjów, szkoły podstawowe, średnie i wyższe – kierunki neofilologiczne, głównie o specjalizacji nauczycielskiej).
The aim of this article is to present the profile of a ‘good’ foreign language teacher in junior high schools based on the results of the study conducted among pupils of selected junior high schools in two voivodeships of Poland, namely Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Wielkopolska Voivodeship. This study is part of a larger research project covering all types of schools in Poland. Apart from the above-mentioned junior high schools, primary schools, secondary schools as well as universities (neophilological degree courses, in particular those with teaching specialisation) are also included in this study.
