Opis:
The article discusses Leslie Marmon Silko’s Ceremony with a focus on textual manifestations of the figure of the trickster. The theme of shape-shifting and transformation that one usually associates with tricksters is linked here with the theme of (non)dualist timespace, the notion of interbeing, which in turn introduces the theme of trauma healing. The author combines two perspectives-Paula Gunn Allen’s view on timespace in her The Sacred Hoop, and Gerald Vizenor’s writings concerning trickster aesthetics-in order to show that the narrative structure of the novel can also be seen as an embodiment of the trickster: trickster-timespace, trickster-relation, and trickster-processuality; these three manifestations of the trickster are analyzed from the perspective of one more actualization of the trickster, that of a psychopomp, the “Guide of Souls” (which is manifested both at the level of plot and narration).

Academic regalia, symbols and ceremonies are an important element of university reality. The ruling force here is the tradition and continuity of the preservation of symbols since the Middle Ages. The awarding of academic degrees and titles in the XXI century is still associated with a consistent structure during which specific rituals – characteristic for University or even each field of study – take place. They become an exemplification of prestige in the academic world, the position of professors, as well as other social groups, and crystallize the place in the hierarchy of various individuals and groups of people, as well as the academic capital that they represent. In this article, I will focus on this initial level of academic career which is a doctorate and especially at this ceremonial or symbolic ritual of passage – the doctoral promotion.

Opis:
The county of Spiš, consisting of enclaves within the territory of the Kingdom of Hungary, ethnically and religiously diverse, fre- quently administered by eminent personalities and situated on an important trade route, has played an important political and economic role over the centuries. The pawned towns of Spiš, which were never bought back, were the subject of claims by the southern neighbours of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth until they were cut off from it in 1769 by a sanitary cordon imposed by the Imperial army. The return of the thirteen Spiš towns and the dominion of the Lubelsko-Podolinieckie province to the Kingdom of Hungary is a well-known occurrence, but tracing the detailed course of this process requires further research, in particular archival research. Bearing testament to this turbulent period are the documents preserved in Vienna’s Österreichisches Staatsarchiv related to żupan Jan Csáky de Keresztseg. The article discusses a letter from Jan Nepomucen Kirschner, parish priest in Żakowce, which describes the church decorations in major towns in the former starosty on the occasion of its incorporation into Hungary in November 1772. According to the brief account of Father Kirschner, the altars in the churches were adorned with Hungarian crowns and inscriptions citing biblical verses. Also mentioned is other archival material from the collection, which may enrich our knowledge of the course of these celebrations, such as the texts of the żupan’s speech and the townspeople’s oaths, as well as of those pieces composed in honour of Csáky, Maria Theresa and Joseph II. The discussed documents are a rare example of Spiš archival material containing descriptions of the decorations for a state ceremony in this area. According to the narrative of the ceremonial programme, the moment of incorporation of the thirteen towns and Lubowelski dominion into the Hungarian county is a triumph of justice – the lost parts of Spiš return to their rightful rulers, whose good governance will ensure peace and stability for the inhabitants of the region. The form and ideological message of the various elements of the ceremonial setting (both visual and literary) was relatively simple, probably in order to adapt it to the needs of the mass audience taking the oath of allegiance to the new authorities.

Introduction and aim. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the Uniform Wearing Ceremony and the Candle Lighting on nursing students’ perceptions of the profession. Material and methods. A qualitative, phenomenological method was used to design the study. The standardised criteria for reporting qualitative research with 32 elements were used for the research. The study was conducted with 60 students who volunteered to participate in the study by not selecting a sample of first year nursing students from a university in Northern Turkey. Interviews were conducted 3 times for approximately 20-40 minutes. Results. In this study, the rate of students who perceived the Uniform Wearing Ceremony as positive was as high as (n=42), the rate of those who thought that the uniform had an effect on the image of the nursing profession was 88.3%, and the rate of those who considered nursing as a respected profession was (23%). Conclusion. Nursing students who participated in the study stated that the effect of the Uniform Wearing Ceremony and the Candle Lighting Ceremony positively influenced their perception of the profession and that the uniform had an impact on the image of the nursing profession.

Obecność misterium paschalnego Chrystusa w liturgii sprawia Duch Święty. On czyni wydarzenia zbawcze Chrystusa skuteczną anamnezą. On też uzdalnia uczestników sakramentu bierzmowania do ożywiania wiary.
The presence of the Paschal mystery of Christ in the Liturgy is caused by the Holy Spirit. He causes the saving act of Christ effective anamnesis. In the sacrament of confirmation the Paraclete perfects the act of Christ that began in the sacrament of baptism. With the power of His gifts, the Holy Spirit enables a man to get to know the God's truth easier and to give effective testimony about God who is Love. It is the Holy Spirit who enables the participants of the sacrament of testimony to lively faith. Yet, the lively faith brings the baptismal promises up to date as they will become the promises of the sacrament of baptism as well. Bishop Świerzawski was deeply concerned about the fact the sacrament of baptism was well understood and accepted with a lively faith by his diocesans. It is because the sacrament of confirmation makes the personality of the baptised person dynamic. It also enables them to take the co-responsibility for the Church, not any Church, but the specific people who the confirmed person forms the Church with.

Chrzest swoją moc czerpie z paschy Chrystusa. Tę tajemnicę zbawienia przypominają i aktualizują obrzędy chrzcielne. W tych obrzędach sakramentalną skuteczność ujawnia woda chrzcielna, znak zanurzenia w śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Chrystusa. A to zanurzenie daje udział w synostwie Bożym.
Baptism is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is an effective sign of sanctifying grace. It introduces into the mystery of death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism ceremonies have mistagogical character. The sign of cross made on the foreheads of neophytes, processions, as well as words of God and baptism ceremonies which explain sacramental ablution help to understand that the baptism allows us to participate in God’s sonship and in the priestly, prophetic and pastoral mission of incarnated Son of God.

Opis:
The text analyzes the mutual relations between the liturgy of sacraments and the most solemn state ceremony in the Republic of Poland, that of swearing-in of the Head of State. Although the latter ceremony is secular, its antecedence should be sought in the religious aspects of the enthronement of European rulers in the Middle Ages. These references make the swearing-in an object of study combining theology and political science. They invite questions about the relation between the religious imagination of a given national community and its political organization as embodied in state ceremonies. The candidate who wins the presidential elections becomes the President of the Polish Republic after their victory is announced by the National Electoral Commission, and after the Supreme Court confirms validity of this result. However, they remain President-Elect until they utter the words of the oath. Therefore, the swearing-in is a public ritual regulated by law which needs to be completed in order to formally commence exercise of the office. The oath, which is spelled out in the Constitution and delivered by the newly elected Head of State, has a performative nature, similar to liturgical formulas. Additionally, it comprises an optional reference to God as witness to the oath delivered. Therefore, the presidential oath is a historically conditioned testimony to public authority, referring to the realm of the sacred.

This article is aimed at the analysis of Jakuan Sōtaku’s Zen Tea Record from the perspective of the teachings of the Zen masters included within it. In my book entitled Estetyka zen (Aesthetics of Zen), in relation to the ideas of Nishida Kitarō (1870–1945), a philosopher who was also a Zen practitioner, I explained how in Zen art there must be conveyed certain aspects of reality grasped in the act of enlightenment. Nishida called this reality the “absolutely contradictory selfidentity” (zettaimujunteki jikodōitsu), meaning such a paradox unity of all that does not exclude the distinctiveness of singular elements. The aspects mentioned above are: surpassing the dualism of the subject and object of cognition (“one is all and all is one”, ichi soku issai, issai soku ichi), affirmation of the common perspective of perception of reality (“form is emptiness and emptiness is form”, shiki soku ze kū, kū soku ze shiki), internally contradictory unity of oppositions (like motion–motionlessness, sacred–profane), “eternal now” as paradox unity of past and future, state of “no-self ” (mushin) as the creative act and absolute freedom of the enlightened person (for example braking the rules and canons of artistic creation). In the article I want to show that Sōtaku in his treatise included most of those aspects.

Poland is currently experiencing a growth in the number of humanist marriages: strongly individualized, mostly secular unions. So far, the described phenomenon has been analysed mainly through the prism of many different dimensions like secularity, class stratification or the resistance of minorities against the hegemony of the Roman Catholic Church. It seems that the nature of humanist ceremonies has been taken for granted, and that researchers, in their analyses, merely considered these to be rites of passage. In this paper, I ask questions not only about the content of the ceremonies, but also about their forms. I consider these two elements as integral. I put forward the claim that humanist marriages are a hybrid phenomenon, and thus the category of ‘social performance’ added to the category of ‘ritual’ opens up new analytical tracks and enables, to a greater extent, a more precise identification of the innovative character of these ceremonies.

Subsequently, the theories of ritual which explain existing ceremonies by looking at the conditions under which these observances arose are examined. Artykuł zawiera opis ceremonii pogrzebowych królowej Marii Leszczyńskiej, żony Ludwika XV, zmarłej 24 VI 1768 r. i pochowanej w bazylice św. Dionizego w Saint-Denis w dniu 11 VIII 1768 roku.
This article describes the funeral ceremony of Queen Maria Leszczyńska, wife to Louis XV of France, who died on 24 June 1768 and was buried in the Basilica of Saint Denis on 11 August 1768. The author’s account is based on a ceremonial held in the archives of Seine-Saint-Denis department in Bobigny (220J/16/3). The musical setting of the ceremony consisted mainly in liturgical chants, but the document mentions 120 musicians participating in the funeral. They performed the motet De profundis (1740) by Antoine Blanchard (1696–1770), who conducted the performance. No information is given about any instrumental accompaniment. What is more, there is mention of the symbolic silence of some instruments, e.g. the organ. As the coffin was being carried into the basilica, military instruments were played (trumpets, drums, timpani), as well as other instruments not specified in the document.

Life of Saint Basil the Younger
Rumanian funeral ceremony
Rumanian folklore
Opis:
The article shows that the mythologem associated with the ascension of the soul, despite its very antique origin and its presence as a citation in the writings of the Fathers of the Eastern Church, emerges with time displaying specific connotations, thanks to which it enters the Gnostic imaginary, to be refracted later in Christianized key in the hagiographic-eschatological narrative hinged on S. Basil the Younger. Saint Basil, who lived in the 10th century and died probably circa 950, becomes a protagonist of a hagiographic narration. In fact, although the manuscript tradition received by Acta Sanctorum does not diverges from the canonical elements displayed by the life of a saint, a conspicuous numer of Greek testimonies introduces in the narration attributed to Gregory (a disciple of the saint), an eschatological part that includes a description of the afterworld, of the Hell and the punishments received by the sinners, together with textual inserts, considered to be later than the “life” as such. The narrative begins with the story of Theodora, who describes to Gregory the path of her soul through 21 heavenly customs. The mythologem of Theodora’s heavenly customs is attested by tens of codices from the whole Orthodox area, but it is the Rumanian area only to retransmit and rework, also at folkloric level, the suggestive belief in the heavenly customs. Dualistic memory, oral tradition, and Orthodox hagiography seem to blend, at last, without any contradiction into an extraordinarily vivid and imaginative psychanody.
