Opis:
The paper focuses special attention on a project named CARE. The developers of the project is NosoiFighters team, which consists of students of the Cybernetics Faculty in Military University of Technology. The system is a very creative software solution that takes advantage of pioneering sociological theories, graph/networks theory and the last but not least most advanced technologies. It has a very practical purpose, in particular nowadays: countering infectious diseases, for instance HIV/AIDS, malaria, SARS, etc. The paper demonstrates how the system can help us to nail epidemics. CARE has enormous practical potential in regions such as Africa, where there are not enough medicines to treat all who are at risk.

Stefan Huber (2003) skonstruował Skalę Centralności Religijności (Centrality of Religiosity Scale) do pomiaru globalnej centralności oraz pięciu wymiarów religijności wyodrębnionych przez Ch. Glocka i Y. Starka (1965; Stark, Glock,1970): przekonań religijnych, modlitwy, doświadczenia religijnego, kultu i zainteresowań problematyką religijności. Prezentowany artykuł przedstawia polską wersję skali Hubera (C-15). Metoda została przetłumaczona zwrotnie, zgodnie z procedurą translacji. Wstępne wskaźniki trafności i rzetelności skali ustalono w badaniach 402 osób. Uzyskane wskaźniki psychometryczne potwierdziły wysoką trafność i rzetelność prezentowanego narzędzia.
Stefan Huber (2003) developed the Centrality of Religiosity Scale to measure both the global centrality and five dimensions of religiosity as identified by Ch. Glock and Y. Stark (1965, Stark, Glock, 1970): religious beliefs, prayer, religious experience, rite and interests in religious issues. This article presents the Polish version of Huber’s scale (C-15). The scale was translated and back-translated according to standard requirements. Preliminary indicators of validity and reliability were calculated on the basis of the results obtained from 402 subjects. The results confirmed high discriminative power of the items as well as high homogeneity and stability of the subscales. The global index of centrality was also found to have high psychometric properties. Theoretical validity of the scale was established by means of factor analysis and internal consistency coefficient. The findings confirmed the equivalence of the Polish version of the instrument to the original German version and adequacy to the pre-assumed theoretical model. The convergent and divergent validity was established by means of correlations with other instruments measuring religiosity, i.e. Intensity and Centrality of the Religious Attitude (W. Prężyna), Religious Crisis Scale (W. Prężyna), Relationship to God Scale (D. Hutsebaut), and Postcritical Beliefs Scale (D. Hutsebaut). The obtained psychometric indexes confirmed high validity and reliability of the presented instrument.

There are various approaches to ontology metamodelling, and the notion of biologically inspired modular knowledge representation systems can provide insight in the workings of such phenomena as emergent properties of network structures. What is more relevant from knowledge engineering standpoint, such approach could provide innovation and enhancement of the level of expression as well as overall functionality of modular ontologies. To do so, one needs to find biological structures that would be the basis for modularity on different levels of hierarchy within the artificial system. Network analysis tools as well as systems biology and biocomputing provide a framework for research in this field.

The aim of the presented study was to explore the relationship between religiosity and moral development during adolescence. We were interested if the centrality of religiosity (that is, the position of an individual’s religious construct system in personality [Huber, 2003] is related to moral reasoning and decision making in moral dilemmas. It was assumed that the system of religious constructs can function in both heterogeneous or autonomous ways, and we asked if the type of religious motivation is associated with specific features of moral thinking, and thereby with moral development. 112 Polish students (aged 15–18) from Catholic and non-Catholic high schools completed two questionnaires: Polish versions of Huber’s Centrality of Religiosity Scale and the Rest’s Defining Issues Test. The results indicated that there is the relationship between (a) global centrality and second stage (pre-conventional level) and fourth stage (conventional level) of moral development; (b) five dimensions of religiosity and stages of moral development.

Individualism-collectivism has emerged as one of the most important constructs to depict cultural differences and similarities. It is typical to examine individualism and collectivism through comparison between the cultures of the West and those of the East or comparison between various religious traditions, e.g. Christianity has been seen as the source of Western individualistic understanding whilst Buddhism as the source of Eastern collectivist understanding. The research presented in this paper explored the connections between individualism-collectivism and religiosity in Polish Catholic culture. Although Poland is an orthodox Catholic environment, gradually intensified secularization processes have been observed there. In two separate studies we examined relationships between individualism-collectivism and religiosity defined in a traditional (study 1) and secularized context (study 2).

The Catholic religion has been inextricably connected with the Polish state through numerous historical experiences. Being an important aspect of connecting society, it can be used in an instrumental way on the political agenda. Moreover, religiousness is an important determinant of electoral decisions. The aim of the research (N=238) is to check whether religiosity affects the perception of the importance of religious principles in everyday life and religion in political life. In the presented approach, religiosity was a multidimensional variable and was conceptualized using a modified five-point Religiosity Centrality Scale (Huber 2003). It was confirmed that all dimensions of religiosity are significantly related to the assessment of the importance of religious principles. The dimension that showed the strongest correlation with the created variables was the dimension of religious cult, and the dimension that correlated the least was the dimension of reading the Catholic press.

Social network analysis (SNA) is an important and valuable tool for knowledge extraction from massive and unstructured data. Social network provides a powerful abstraction of the structure and dynamics of diverse kinds of interpersonal connection and interaction. In this paper, we address issues associated with the application of SNA to the investigation and analysis of social relationships of people. We provide a brief introduction to representation and analysis of social networks, SNA models and methods. The main objective is to investigate the application of SNA techniques to data mining in case of two social networks Facebook and Twitter. The presented simulations illustrate how social analysis can be used to determine the interpersonal connections, importance of actors in a given social network and detect communities of people. We then discuss strength and weakness of SNA techniques.

Exact expressions for these distributions when the chi-square are central and those in the numerator or in the denominator have even degrees of freedom were given in Fonseca et al. (2002). These expressions are now extended for non-central chi-squares. The case of random non-centrality parameters is also considered.

Opis:
The aftermath of including new technologies in a modern electric system in conjunction with the incessant rise in power demand could pose a risk to the optimal operation of the system. Therefore, it becomes imperative to identify the most influential and critical nodes of such a system to avert future problems in network operation. In this paper, to identify most significant nodes of the system, the authors propose two measures of centrality in accordance with the network structural properties of a power system, namely, degree centrality (DC) and eigenvector centrality (EC). These are expressed considering the admittance matrix that exists among the interconnection of load to load nodes in an electrical power network. A critical node closeness centrality (CNCC) method is also proposed to identify critical nodes of the system. This is done by modifying the conventional closeness centrality (CC) to include the influence of interconnection that exists between network load to load nodes as captured by the admittance matrix between them. A comparative analysis of the proposed techniques with other conventional methods is also carried out. The result of the simulation shows that the proposed methods could serve as alternative tools in the identification of influential and weak nodes in a power system.

Religiosity and dyadic coping are among the factors important for the quality of marriage, satisfaction with the relationship and the sense of happiness of the spouses. Well-being, mainly in the aspect of personal development or life goals, seems to be particularly important for couples planning to conceive a child in the near or distant future. The study involved 51 married couples postponing parenthood. Their dyadic coping, psychological well-being and the centrality of religiosity were studied. The actor-partner interdependence model was used for the dyadic analyses. There were no differences in the well-being between the spouses, however, women rated in dyadic coping and religiosity higher. The centrality of the spouses’ religiosity, and especially the congruence of their religious beliefs, seems to have a significant impact on their well-being. The obtained results seem to shed new light on the importance of dyadic coping by spouses and their religiosity for the well-being of each of them.

This article gives an overview of dimensional approach to religiousness; from the socioreligious core dimensions of religiousness of Stark & Glock (1968) to interdisciplinary model of religiosity od Huber with core dimensions, the centrality and content of religiosity (2003; 2008). The overview demonstrates the development of the succesive concepts of dimensional approach to religion as well as the constructed assesment techniques and their empirical applications. Then are the five core dimensions of religiousness (intelectual, ideological, experiencial, ritual, concequencial) synthetically organized by psychological contents. Especially the interdisciplinary model of religiosity of Huber is suitable for monitoring and interpreting religiousness of individuals, groups, of pantheistic or theistic patterns of religious expressions.

The construction industry is characterized by limited resources and a high level of competition. Limited resources and a competitive environment determine knowledge and information as a particularly important resource for the development of the construction industry. A communication network is one of the elements of a knowledge management system in projects and serves to organize and maintain information links between project participants. We have analysed the communication network between project participants for residential building construction using social network analysis (SNA). The purpose of this work is the calculation and analysis centrality measures for participants in the construction project delivery. Centrality measures can answer the following questions whether the node is influential or central to the network and whether the node is critical for the flow of information in the network.

The article analyses the transformations and the internal diversity of the oldest urban structures of central Łódź, one of the biggest Polish cities. 19th-century Łódź was one of the greatest centres of the textile industry in Europe. Currently, the city faces major challenges, including a dramatic population decrease, population ageing as well as a vast revitalisation of urban structures aimed at reinforcing the new idea of the city’s inward development. The research on the layout of Łódź is based on the modern image of the city as well as four images preserved in historical plans. The subsequent, chronological models are analysed in terms of topological features with the use of space syntax methods. The conducted research made it possible to identify the internal, configurational diversity of the historic urban core of Łódź. A seemingly monotonous, orthogonal urban layout is, from a topological perspective, highly diversified. Due to the actions undertaken in Łódź and aimed at restoring urban structures in the broad sense, the study not only has a cognitive goal, but it also carries a practical context.
