Opis:
The Mid-Polish Trough (MPT) is well recorded in the distribution of thickness of the Mesozoic sediments. Its shape was most distinctly delineated in the Early Triassic, and Early to Middle Jurassic, when thickness gradients attaining 100 m/km were reached. However, because the regional faults bordering the MPT were not active throughout its history, the existence of Mid-Polish Rift has not been confirmed. The strongest thickness gradients may have been caused by the periodical activity of the sub-Zechstein faults, which did not penetrate the Mesozoic strata due to the damping effect of plastic Zechstein salts. On the contrary, local faults, forming (mainly during the Late Triassic) syn-sedimentary grabens, are a common feature in the MPT and its surroundings. Transversal subdivision of the MPT and its slopes into at least two segments (Pomeranian and Kuiavian) is clearly visible in the thickness pattern. It is expressed by the presence of separate depocentres, reversal of asymmetry, differences in stratigraphical sequences observed on the palaeomorphological terraces south-west of the MPT, and by the structural variations after the inversion. The scale of inversion, which transformed the MPT into the Mid-Polish Swell (MPS), is unclear and needs further investigations. Estimation of the thickness of the Upper Cretaceous sediments removed by erosion is a key problem in this respect. It should take into account both, the effects of the regional inversion and the local changes resulting from the last stage of strong salt displacements.

Opis:
In the Wielkopolska (Great Poland) area, there occur numerous tectonic grabens which were active in the Palaeogene and Neogene. The similarities and differences between their development are presented on the example of the Czempiń, Szamotuły, Lubstów, and Władysławów Grabens. Using various methods of palaeotec- tonic analysis, the stages of accelerated subsidence of the grabens, i.e. tectonic phases, were indicated. The extent of vertical movement in the studied grabens were compared and it was affirmed that there is a connection between the occurrence of older dislocations and salt structures in the deep basement. From among the examined grabens, the Lubstów Graben is the deepest one, and shows the most complex geological structure. The Czempiń and Szamotuły Grabens are characterized by relatively simple geological structure, where the stratigraphic complete- ness and tectonic style are very legible. These three grabens were active in different tectonic stages from the turn of the Eocene/Oligocene till the end of the Neogene, and perhaps also in the Prepleistocene. The Władysławów Graben is a very shallow tectonic structure and its evolution lasted for the shorter period of time. The time of its development extended from the Early through the Middle Miocene. These grabens provide a good example of the relationship between the fault throw and graben location. The Czempiń, Szamotuły, and Lubstów Grabens, connected with deeply-rooted dislocations, came to existence in the Pyrenean phase (latest Eocene - Early Oligocene). However, the Władysławów Graben was affected mainly by salt structure activity. Thus, its first stage of tectonic evolution took place in the Savian phase (Early Miocene).

Opis:
The paper presents abiotic resources which are located in a small town in central Poland. They remain unknown to authorities and inhabitants. For the first time they are illustrated in a scientific paper. The objects of local geological heritage point to geodiversity of this district town in the south-western Mazovia. When the geodiversity is interpreted in a simple, an understandable way, it may become attractive for tourists. We show how abiotic resources located within an urban area can be used to support urban geotourism development. The scientific, educational and aesthetic values of these resources may create the town image in accordance with the principles of environmental protection.

Opis:
The current research focuses on explaining the origin of end moraines running through the northernmost districts of the city of Poznań. The highest hills, that is, the Moraska Hill and the Dziewicza Hill, are a stagnation record of the Vistulian Glaciation of the Poznań Phase. These two hills represent terminal moraines of similar height and age, but the mechanism of their formation is diametrically opposed. The Dziewicza Hill is a typical accumulative end moraine, where Pleistocene deposits over 70 m thick are undisturbed. On the other hand, the Moraska Hill is a classic example of a push end moraine with a relatively thin cover of Pleistocene sediments and glaciotectonically elevated (up to 130 m a.s.l.) upper Neogene deposits. In the latter case, these strongly deformed sediments are the so-called "Poznań Clays" that underlie the Quaternary deposits in the vast area of the Polish Lowlands.
