Opis:: This paper looks at the puzzle of the accuracy of the assessment center in connection with the low theoretical accuracy of this method coupled with its high potential for prediction. The presented research results confirm the claim that the assessment center tends to evaluate the level of task performance by the candidate rather than his or her competencies, understood as relatively stable qualities, as well as their implication in the practice of selection.

Opis:: Liver transplantation is a well-established treatment of patients with end-stage liver disease and selected liver tumors. Remarkable progress has been made over the last years concerning nearly all of its aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the evolution of long-term outcomes after liver transplantations performed in the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery (Medical University of Warsaw). Material and methods. Data of 1500 liver transplantations performed between 1989 and 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Transplantations were divided into 3 groups: group 1 including first 500 operations, group 2 including subsequent 500, and group 3 comprising the most recent 500. Five year overall and graft survival were set as outcome measures. Results. Increased number of transplantations performed at the site was associated with increased age of the recipients (p<0.001) and donors (p<0.001), increased rate of male recipients (p<0.001), and increased rate of piggyback operations (p<0.001), and decreased MELD (p<0.001), as well as decreased blood (p=0.006) and plasma (p<0.001) transfusions. Overall survival was 71.6% at 5 years in group 1, 74.5% at 5 years in group 2, and 85% at 2.9 years in group 3 (p=0.008). Improvement of overall survival was particularly observed for primary transplantations (p=0.004). Increased graft survival rates did not reach the level of significance (p=0.136). Conclusions. Long-term outcomes after liver transplantations performed in the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery are comparable to those achieved in the largest transplant centers worldwide and are continuously improving despite increasing recipient age and wider utilization of organs procured from older donors.

Opis:: In the last years the number of new forms of workplaces, such as call centers, increases. It is defined as a workstation where the basic tasks of a worker are carried out with the use of a phone and a computer. According to statistics, about 1.3–4% of workers are employed in call centers in the European countries. The noise is one of the harmful and annoying hazards of call center workstations. The paper presents the noise sources in call center rooms, assessment criteria of noise and results of noise measurements in call center workstations. The results of measurements show that the noise at call center workstations (during the use of handset receiver phone by operators) can be harmful (causing the risk of hearing loss) and annoying, as it makes it difficult to carry out the basic work activities and causes additionally auditory disadvantageous changes in health.

Opis:: In the University School of Physical Education in Warsaw the project entitled: “The Project of National Center for Research on Physical Fitness” (NCBKF) is being realized. The idea of this project comes from the long-standing tradition of national-level, population-based studies on physical development and fitness of children and adolescents, carried out by the Warsaw-based school. As a result of the studies, rich research material was gathered pertaining to the physical fitness of students in Polish schools. The project realization began in 2009, its basic functionality is expected to be achieved in 2012, whereas full functionality in 2015. The project called “Check yourself” has already been launched. This is a joint action of the University School of Physical Education in our country for the purpose of enabling auto-diagnosis in physical fitness of the largest possible number of members of Polish society. The authors of the project are convinced that realization of the NCBKF mission will result in health improvement of children, adolescents and adults and their more effective functioning in the contemporary world.

Opis:: This paper presents an empirical approach that allows pre-feasibility assessment of logistics infrastructure for defined locational and fleet constraints. It aims at developing a fast screening method for the assessment of demand of a public Transport and Logistics Center, which is important for properly selecting the Center’s size and minimising the risk of over or under-estimation of capacity needs. The results are useful for policy makers to facilitate the early planning and commercialisation phases of a TLC project. The method develops the appropriate cost functions in order to compare two logistics strategies: one that involves the use of TLC to achieve economies of scale, and another one that assumes direct deliveries from origin to destination to save time and handling costs. The method has been applied as a pilot study in a case of a regional Center in Greece, advocating its applicability and reusability.

Opis:: In general reflection, the following can be stated: (1) Borderlands are the geographical and cultural reality that reveals itself along with the expanding of geographic horizons, also known as geographical discoveries; (2) In the process of evolutionary changes borderlines are considered in terms of stereotypes: economic backwardness, political conservatism, cultural remoteness; (3) Borderlands as border points of the state are a product of culture, which is shaped at the basis of cultural clashes, interactions and neighbourhood. Borderlands are creations of multiculturalism; (4) In the borderland areas unique personalities are created. These personalities are characterized by a high capacity to adapt to the new civilizational realities. They submit the spiritual values over the economic goods. They attach great importance to the traditional values of cultural life; (5) Borderlands often reveal specific civilizational hybrids. On borderlands opposing processes and phenomena are combined. The dichotomy of internal and external functioning is characteristic for the image of borderlands; the inside and outside concepts of particular borderland reality are both completely different.

Opis:: The article presents the postcards as a source of knowledge about the social reality for a sociologist. The first part contains a description of postcards, the discussion of visual studies and the theoretical justification of postcards' status as a data. The analyzed object consists of two parties: the iconic recto and verbal verso. What we see on the postcards and then read - explains the second part of the article in which I empirically examine the usefulness of this type of sources, analyzing the photographic presentation of the city on one hand, and contents appearing on greeting postcards on the other.

The article discusses the general concept of a logistics center with the elements that compose it and describes its evolution over the years. Then, discussed it was the place that occupies the center of logistics and the role it plays in the context of supply chain operations. In addition, it contains information about the operating concept of logistic centers in the supply chain. The aim of this article is to characterize the three distribution centers in the province of Lodz: Panattoni Park Business Center Lodz in Lodz, Piotrkow City- Logistic Distribution Center in Piotrkow and SEGRO Logistics Park Stryków Stryków and analysis of the potential that they have centers located in the area of the province.

Opis:: Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza uwarunkowań socjalno-ekonomicznych i kierunków rozwoju przestrzennego małych miast obwodu lwowskiego, leżących w 30-kilometrowej strefie przygranicznej. Na charakterystycznych przykładach Mościsk i Rawy Ruskiej opisano w porządku chronologicznym rozwój przestrzenny ich centrów w drugiej połowie XX wieku, kładąc nacisk na brak efektywnych rozwiązań uwzględniających takie czynniki, jak kształtowanie przestrzeni publicznych, ochrona zabytków i obsługa międzynarodowego ruchu turystycznego. Opisano koncepcje projektowe kształtowania przestrzeni publicznych w centrach wymienionych miast.
The subject of the article is to analyse the socio-economic backgrounds and directions of spatial development of small towns in the 30 km border area of Lviv region. The spatial development of the centres of Mostyska and Rava-Ruska, as typical examples, is chronologically described in the second half of the XX century. Emphasizing the lack of effective solutions for the public space formation, protection of historical heritage and maintenance of international tourism. We describe the design concept of the public spaces formation in the centers of these cities.

Opis:: The paper presents a description of moral pseudonorms, which displace proper moral norms from our consciousness and action as well as distort our morality. The study analyzes mainly the pseudonorms that generate the fundamentals of legalism and their opposition – the fundamentals of moral anarchism. The first groups of pseudonorms identifies morality with civil law, especially criminal law. On the other hand the other group of pseudonorms, equates morality with what is spontaneous, impulsive, authentic.The paper analyzes not only the scope and contentrelated distortion of moral norms caused by the substitutes of morality, but it also reveals the reasons of creating the pseudo norms in our consciousness. These reasons are induced by the impact of the pride center and the concupiscent center on our value response and by preferring the extramoral values over the moral ones. Exposing the mechanism of functioning of the pseudonorms in our moral consciousness is useful not only for ethics but also for psychology and pedagogy as well as for selfeducation and moral development.
