    Dorota Masłowska’s Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną employs various types of linguistic innovations. One of them is a mistaken selection of the number of nouns. This stylistic means results in linguistic humour. In the Russian translation of the novel reflecting this phenomenon should not pose any problems. However, neither of the instances of the stylistic means analysed in the paper was reflected in the Russian target text. It is difficult to determine why the translator did not attempt to show Russian readers a reconstruction of the language of the Polish text. As a result, Irina Lappo’s translation lacks the poetic qualities and refreshing touches of Masłowska’s language.

    Opis:
    У статті описано різні підходи до розуміння дієслівних іменників у мовознавстві, окреслено дискусійність термінологічного апарату та класифікації. З’ясовано, що дієслівні іменники є яскравим прикладом гібридності, оскільки поєднують у собі категорії, характерні різним класам слів. Доведено дієслівний характер цих утворень, зокрема на прикладі категорії виду та числа. Категорія виду та числа залежить від семантичного значення ДІ і детермінує дієслівний чи іменниковий характер. Таким чином виділено два типи дієслівних іменників: присудкові, що вживаються тільки в однині та наслідують видову семантику, та підметові, що відповідно втрачають акціональність та можуть уживатися в множині, у свою чергу вони поділяються на декілька значеннєвих підтипів: терміни, спосіб дії, стан тощо. Проаналізовано тенденції уживання таких конструкцій у сучасних польській та українській мовах, зокрема щодо новоутворень, що поширені в інтернет-просторі.
    The article deals with different approaches to identify the notions of verbal nouns. The main attention is given to the terms for the nomination of the verbal nouns and their classification. Verbal nouns are a clear example of hybridity as they combine categories typical for different classes of words. The verb nature of these formation is proved by the grammatical categories of aspect and number. Thus, two types of verb nouns are distinguished: predicate nouns, which are used only in the singular and imitate aspectual semantics, and subject nouns, which accordingly lose their aspect and can be used in the plural, they are divided into several semantic subtypes: terms, mode of action, condition, etc. The results of this comparison with examples from the modern Ukrainian and Polish literature are presented in the article, in particular regarding new formed examples, which are used in the Internet space.

    Od użycia szczegółowego do ogólnego określnika wyrazu souffrance w Salvifici doloris Jana Pawła II: analiza konrastywna francusko-arabska Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, w jaki sposób dokonuje się przejście od użycia szczegółowego do ogólnego określnika wyrazu souffrance, pojawiającego się w strukturze: souffrance + N lub N de la souffrance, w Salvifici doloris Jana Pawła II. Analiza wyrazu souffrance i jego tłumaczenia jest przeprowadzana w perspektywie kontrastywnej francusko-arabskiej według dwóch parametrów: rodzajnik i kategoria liczby. W wyniku tej analizy ujawnia się kilka typów tłumaczenia wyrazu souffrance. Tak więc tłumaczenie souffrance de l’homme ma kilka różnych wartości w zależności od tego, czy jest wyrażone za pomocą struktur rzeczownik + rzeczownik ʾalam-u al-ʾinsān-i, rzeczownik + przymiotnik ʾalam-un bašarīyy-un, bądź za pomocą zdania czasownikowego z komponentem pasywnym. Ponadto w języku arabskim w przeciwieństwie do francuskiego brak rodzajnika w liczbie mnogiej zmusza rzeczownik do przekształcenia siebie samego w liczbę mnogą. W konsekwencji w tłumaczeniu francuskiej liczby pojedynczej ogólnej na arabski większość rzeczowników jest wyrażona w liczbie mnogiej, zwłaszcza w tłumaczeniu la souffrance du Christ, akcentując w ten sposób różnorodność w jedności. Du spécifique au générique dans la détermination du mot souffrance dans Salvifici doloris de Jean-Paul II : Analyse contrastive français-arabe L’objectif de cette étude consiste à démontrer comment s’opère le passage du spécifique au générique dans la détermination du mot souffrance engagé dans une construction d’annexion : souffrance + N, ou N + de la souffrance, dans Salvifici Doloris de Jean-Paul II. L’étude examine la traduction du mot souffrance dans une perspective contrastive français-arabe, par le biais de deux paramètres : l’article et la catégorie du nombre. L’analyse révèle la présence de plusieurs types de traduction du mot souffrance. Ainsi, la traduction de la souffrance de l’homme possède différentes valeurs selon qu’elle est rendue par un : nom + nom alam al-insān, nom + adjectif alam bašariyy, ou par une phrase verbale avec une nuance de passivité. Par ailleurs, en arabe, et contrairement au français, l’absence d’un article-pluriel oblige le nom à se transformer lui-même au pluriel. Par conséquent, pour traduire le singulier générique français en arabe, la plupart des noms sont rendus par un pluriel, notamment dans la traduction de la souffrance du Christ, accentuant ainsi la diversité sous l’unité.
    L’objectif de cette étude consiste à démontrer comment s’opère le passage du spécifique au générique dans la détermination du mot souffrance engagé dans une construction d’annexion : souffrance + N, ou N + de la souffrance, dans Salvifici Doloris de Jean-Paul II. L’étude examine la traduction du mot souffrance dans une perspective contrastive français-arabe, par le biais de deux paramètres : l’article et la catégorie du nombre. L’analyse révèle la présence de plusieurs types de traduction du mot souffrance. Ainsi, la traduction de la souffrance de l’homme possède différentes valeurs selon qu’elle est rendue par un : nom + nom alam al-insān, nom + adjectif alam bašariyy, ou par une phrase verbale avec une nuance de passivité. Par ailleurs, en arabe, et contrairement au français, l’absence d’un article-pluriel oblige le nom à se transformer lui-même au pluriel. Par conséquent, pour traduire le singulier générique français en arabe, la plupart des noms sont rendus par un pluriel, notamment dans la traduction de la souffrance du Christ, accentuant ainsi la diversité sous l’unité.
    The objective of this study is to demonstrate how the transition from specific to generic is effectuated in the determination of the word souffrance within an annexation construction: souffrance + N, or N + de la souffrance in Salvifici Doloris of Jean-Paul II. The study examines the translation of the word souffrance through a French-Arabic contrastive lens, using two parameters: article and category of number. The analysis reveals that there were several types of translations of the word souffrance. Accordingly, the translation of la souffrance de l’homme is to have different values that vary depending on whether the translation is rendered as: noun + noun alam al-insān, noun + adjective alam bašariyy, or verbal sentence with a nuance of passivity. In addition, because Arabic, unlike French, does not possess a plural-article, nouns are often transformed in order to take the plural form. As a result of this peculiarity, most translations form French to Arabic tend to render generic singular nouns to plural, such as in the instance of la souffrance du Christ thereby emphasizing the diversity under unity.

    Artykuł przedstawia osobliwości kategorii liczby polskich i ukraińskich rzeczowników. W celu wskazania trudnych miejsc związanych z nauczaniem kategorii liczby osób ukraińskojęzycznych przeanalizowano polskie i ukraińskie leksemy pod względem realizacji wartości gramatycznej kategorii liczby. Przedstawiono konteksty, w których możliwe jest popełnianie błędów, co może wywołać efekt komiczny lub zakłócić komunikację. Źródłem informacji są słowniki języka polskiego i ukraińskiego, a także zasoby Narodowego Korpusu Języka Polskiego oraz Korpusu Tekstów Języka Ukraińskiego.
    This article discusses the peculiarities of the category of number of Polish and Ukrainian nouns. To indicate the problem areas related to the teaching of the category of number to Ukrainian-speaking persons, the author analysed Polish and Ukrainian lexemes in terms of their fulfilments of the grammatical category of number. The article presents the contexts which may trigger errors, which in turn may cause a comical effect or distort communication. The data were collected from Polish and Ukrainian dictionaries, as well as the National Corpus of Polish and the Ukrainian Text Corpus.

    Opis:
    The impact of firm size on the economy and trade sector performance is lately researched due to its economic importance. Concerning it, this paper researches the specifics and determinants of impact of firm size on overall performance of distributive trade (wholesale and retail), with special insight on European Union and Serbia. Empirical research in the world, European Union and Serbia show very significant role of small and medium enterprises in creation of overall performance of trade sector, expressed through the number of enterprises, number of employees, turnover and added value. In that we find significant role of large trade chains which operate globally in many countries, including Serbia, which is a central issue in this paper.
    Wpływ wielkości przedsiębiorstw na gospodarkę oraz sektor handlu podlega w ostatnich latach badaniom z uwagi na swe ekonomiczne znaczenie. Mając to na uwadze, niniejsze opracowanie bada specyfikę oraz determinanty oddziaływania wielkości przedsiębiorstw na ogólny stan handlu dystrybucyjnego (hurtowego i detalicznego), ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Unii Europejskiej i Serbii. Wyniki badań empirycznych na świecie, w Unii Europejskiej i Serbii wykazują ogromną rolę małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw w kontekście funkcjonowania sektora handlu, co potwierdza liczba przedsiębiorstw, ich udział w ogólnym zatrudnieniu, wielkość obrotów i wartość dodana. Znaczenie to przejawia się poprzez ogromne łańcuchy handlowe działające globalnie, w tym w Serbii.

    En langue française, la catégorie morphologique du nombre se manifeste par des spécificateurs ou une altération des formes des lexèmes dans tout le syntagme nominal, présentant ainsi une certaine difficulté pour les apprenants lituaniens. Nous avons analysé cette catégorie grammaticale dans les productions écrites des apprenants lituaniens en FLE à travers l’étude des difficultés rencontrées par ces derniers, des tendances générales de ses formes d’emploi en langue écrite (fréquence et ommission dans l’emploi des différents éléments) et de leur influence sur la qualité de la langue écrite même.
    In French, the morphological category of the number is manifested by specifiers or an alteration of the forms of lexemes throughout the nominal phrase, thus presenting a certain difficulty for Lithuanian learners. We have analyzed this grammatical category in the written productions of Lithuanian learners in FLE through the study of the difficulties encountered by them, general tendencies of their forms of employment in written language (frequency and omission in the employment of the different elements) and their influence on the quality of the written language itself.
