Opis:
The efficiency of religious education depends on a variety of factors, including, to a large degree, the identity and competence of religion teachers and catechists. For this reason it is necessary to work out new, ever more efficient ways to form the staff of teachers. This is to be aided also by empirical studies that are conducted in this field. The article presents the results of studies of a two hundred-person group of religion teachers working in the Radom diocese. The results confirm high moral-religious as well as didactic-methodic qualifications of the subjects, who are devoted Catholics and treat teaching religion as the realization of their own Christian vocation. They understand in the proper way the conception of teaching religion that is binding in Poland and they realize the postulates of methodic pluralism.

Opis:
Stąd w podejściu do metod aktywizujących należy zachować arystotelesowski „złoty środek” – właściwą równowagę.
On 19th June 2009, Pope Benedict XVI inaugurated the Year for Priests which will last till 19th June 2010. The motto of this year is “The faithfulness of Christ, the faithfulness of a priest”. The Year was established on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of death of St John Baptist Marie Vianney, the parish priest of Ars. The question about the role of a priest in society, especially in a parish, at school and in local communities seems to be of great importance nowadays. A contemporary man is often exposed to the influence of numerous experimentalists, showmen and pedagogical inquisitors, and the rapid expansion of psychology in our lives, which sometimes leads to a complete takeover, is present in most areas of everyday life. This process also concerns the religious sphere, and the subjectivization of a religious experience makes people feel as if they are left on their own. The overuse of psychology in religious experiences is dangerous as it might be connected with moving the sphere of the sacred onto the plane of the personal experience of a man, and it carries with it the lack of any needs to participate in religious observances and redefining ethical and social norms. In this situation priests and religious educators must choose suitable methods of evangelization with a great deal of responsibility and care. At the same time they cannot follow the modern teaching fashions too closely, because then the main aim of their work, which is leading people to God and salvation, might be deprecated. It might lead to so‑called religious infantilism – the religious experience lasts as long as the stimulus (influencing the senses) is at work. When the stimulus disappears, so does the religious experience. This situation may take place when a priest‑showman puts the teaching method in the first place and neglects the very essence and aim of his teaching. Although active‑learning methods stimulate creative actions and creativity, they also carry with them the dangers of knowledge which has not been consolidated and which is superficial. They threaten religious educators by assuming the role of a showman or an inquisitor. Religious educators and priests should treat themselves with a certain dose of reserve, so that God is always at the centre of the process of religious education. A fundamental question runs throughout the analyses that has been carried out – is using active‑learning methods in religious education and pastoral service justified? New trends in methods of education and theology are definitely in their favour, and they emphasize the correlation between using active‑learning methods and the effectiveness of teaching. This process concerns both working at school and in the parish. Undoubtedly, they make teaching more attractive and they facilitate the learning process. However, they are also connected with the danger of the over use of psychology when looking at religious experience and of placing too much emphasis on the teaching method itself rather than its aim. Thus, what we should wish for is that active‑learning methods should be used while preserving the Aristotelian golden mean – a proper use of the desirable balance between two extremes, finding a compromise and moderation between them, according to the saying nec temere, nec timide (neither rashly nor timidly).

Social-cultural transformations in the modern world play an important role not only in education and general socialization, but also decide about the teachers’ axiological preferences and attitudes. They also have a significant effect on the quality of catechization, mainly on the range of the catechist’s didactic and educational tasks at school. The task connected with education of children and adolescents in the spirit of tolerance should be included here. However, the point is not to be adjusted to the commonly propagated slogans, in which tolerance is understood very widely, but it is the attitude that is the expression of properly understood tolerance, based on Christian axiology. Hence, the aim of the present study is to refer to the issues connected with transmission of knowledge and with shaping socially desired attitudes of tolerance among the catechized pupils. First the concept of “tolerance”, and then the features distinguishing the attitude of tolerance among catechists are described. Against this background the role of tolerance in school catechesis and the ways of forming tolerance in the catechized pupils are described.

Using all of the four forms of students' work or their different combinations during a lesson, makes it more attractive, which influences comprehensive activation of students. Their application on catechesis is away of religious teachers' pursuit to improve efficiency of religious education among teenagers. It is an important element of catechetical didactics as it involves searching optimal solutions, what is making catechesis more effective in case of the way of passing the essence of faith and developing Christian attitudes among teenagers.

Nowadays the Church has a great challenge connected with taking up evangelization again. It must be an answer to signs of the times, to the needs of present people and to the conditions in which the man lives. In these complex and difficult realities there is a need for Christians capable of sharing their faith, who will keep on preaching with fervour and apostolic enthusiasm. As it is indicated in Instrumentum laboris, catechists can cope with this task. They are the subjects of passing on the faith and they are responsible for its preaching. In the document there are suggestions about how they should carry out their mission. However, they need more detailed elaboration. All these matters are to be discussed during 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. We must hope that they will meet specific solutions, becoming an impulse to greater involvement in passing on the faith by catechists participating in the new evangelization through their service.

Equipping RE teachers and catechists to meet the needs of diverse pupils means also to help them in planning the educational actions and critical evaluation of didactical processes. Consequently, RE teacher or catechist needs to be not only a teacher, but also pedagogue and faith witness. Therefore, he/she should be characterized by a willingness to lifelong learning, enthusiasm for self-study and broad mindedness.

In His salutary work God uses people whom we usually call catechists. They are the pupils who follow the Gospel and explain its contents to others. To be able to teach the rules of the new life they themselves have to be subjected to spiritual formation that is a process tending to shape a mature, ancillary and dialogic personality. Postconciliar documents on catechesis especially emphasize the role of lay people in the catechetic process. The present situation of the world, in which the formation of catechists has to take place, is characterized by temporariness, uncertainty of the future, which causes numerous difficulties in its adequate realization. The starting moment for the proper catechetic formation of lay catechists is the family environment, and then it is systematic catechization and the potential contained in religious movements and apostolic groups. A well formed catechist should be characterized by an ancillary attitude and he should represent an attitude that is open to a man’s problems. A catechist's mature personality is expressed by a practical synthesis of his life and service. It is always based on his personal prayer, teacher’s love, participation in the Eucharist, practicing Marian piety and a dynamism taken from following St Paul the Apostle, as the first model of efficient catechists.

This article discusses the document Meeting Jesus, presented by the Italian Episcopal Commission. In seeking to give guide-lines for the proclamation and catechesis of the faith in Italy it becomes one of the most important documents in recent years that deal with the new evangelization that assists the whole Church in the announcing of the Gospel and the journey of faith. The document highlights certain homogeneity in reading the cultural, social, ecclesial and pastoral situation in which the pro-cesses of formation and education are realized. This helps the development of the “catechetical needs” and the specific paths of di-ocesan and national guidelines. It also reveals the possibility of a comparison at the inter-diocesan level between formators and a mutual support in the evaluation of projects and activity. To realize the training of formators and of members of the diocesan teams “in the wise work of coordinating and leading” it is important to work on the same lines proposed by the Guidelines.

At present, innovative initiatives pose a serious pedagogic challenge, which is also faced by catechists and priests. Therefore, it is worth verifying traditional activities in school and parish environments and seeking new, crea-tive organisational and methodological solutions. This requires creativity of ideas and actions from catechists and priests, since not every initiative deserves to be called innovative. Only introducing better, alternative, reality-changing solutions can be referred to as innovative actions. On the basis of the term “innovative pedagogic initiatives”, as understood in the analyses, the article highlights good practices in the organisation and methodology of initiating various creative activities. They were presented as models for innovative initiatives in the school and parish environment. Also presented were characteristics of catechists and priests – innovators in the school and parish environment, who are open to the “signs of the times”, able to think creatively, to act outside the routine and to cooperate. This was the context in which barriers were described which limit the implementation of pedagogic innovations by catechists and priests and the methods of overcoming them.
