Opis:: At present, innovative initiatives pose a serious pedagogic challenge, which is also faced by catechists and priests. Therefore, it is worth verifying traditional activities in school and parish environments and seeking new, crea-tive organisational and methodological solutions. This requires creativity of ideas and actions from catechists and priests, since not every initiative deserves to be called innovative. Only introducing better, alternative, reality-changing solutions can be referred to as innovative actions. On the basis of the term “innovative pedagogic initiatives”, as understood in the analyses, the article highlights good practices in the organisation and methodology of initiating various creative activities. They were presented as models for innovative initiatives in the school and parish environment. Also presented were characteristics of catechists and priests – innovators in the school and parish environment, who are open to the “signs of the times”, able to think creatively, to act outside the routine and to cooperate. This was the context in which barriers were described which limit the implementation of pedagogic innovations by catechists and priests and the methods of overcoming them.

Background. To determine the role of the authority of a catechist – religion teacher – in the religious upbringing of children and youth. Material and methods. Analysis of the subject literature based on selected scientific materials. Results. Personal faith and substantive preparation strengthen the authority of a religion teacher. Conclusions. The authority of a religion teacher develops Christian life in students, both in the individual and social dimension.

Opis:: RE teachers are required to demonstrate the professional, theological, psychological and pedagogical knowledge and skills delineated in professional and institutional standards to facilitate the process of learning and upbringing. True respect for the pupils does not only call RE teacher for the adaptation of the teaching method, but also demands to develop many skills and undertake the emotional, intellectual, personal and religious formation. Handlungskompetenzen (the a ctionrelated competencies) seems to be very important for every teacher, but especially for RE teacher and catechist, because they are influenced by teacher’s beliefs and values. These competencies are the complex abilities needed to enact spontaneously specific knowledge in learning situation. This paper highlights the importance of the teachers’ actions or reactions in critical and/or challenging teaching/learning situations and ability to explain a topic in the response to pupils’ difficulty and questions. Equipping RE teachers and catechists to meet the needs of diverse pupils means also to help them in planning the educational actions and critical evaluation of didactical processes. Consequently, RE teacher or catechist needs to be not only a teacher, but also pedagogue and faith witness. Therefore, he/she should be characterized by a willingness to lifelong learning, enthusiasm for self-study and broad mindedness.

Opis:: Requirements in the modern world are not popular – also on the basis of teaching. However, as Pope John Paul II often emphasized, one should demand from oneself even when others will not demand. These words should include catechists in their work. They are supposed to demand from students, remembering to be demanding towards themselves. Requirements cannot be detached from love. Only a kind teacher who is kind to the student carefully guides the development of the pupil. The issue of teaching requirements – including religious teaching – is important today because of the language of record of purposes. It focuses on knowledge and skills requirements. Catechists additionally in the latest program assumptions have indications regarding attitudes shaped in the catechetical process. Both in the parish and at school, the demanding catechist – from himself and from others – is a credible witness to the truths he proclaims.

Opis:: The aim of the study is to outline the research framework for the issue of promoting a positive image of a catechist (religion teachers). This goal, in accordance with the pastoral paradigm, will be achieved in three points. Firstly, theoretical assumptions will be presented that suggest what this image of a catechist should be like. The second element is the presentation of the results of research conducted for the purposes of this study. The third point is the presentation of conclusions. As the teaching of the Church, the results of research and the long Polish catechetical tradition show, it is necessary to be a witness to a living faith. It is also important to know the teaching material thoroughly and to be a good teacher. Contemporary challenges add communication competence, openness, sensitivity and spontaneity. The binder for all these features is caring for your own image. This necessity, however, comes not from empty vanity but from the knowledge that they will teach in the name of Jesus.

Opis:: An important issue addressed in the presented article is the competencies of the RE teacher/ catechist. Two main problems are posed, summarized in the following questions: What competencies should a teacher of religion/catechist have? What qualities, according to secondary school pupils, should have an RE teacher? An attempt to answer such questions was made on the basis of an analysis of the literature on the subject and the results of a nationwide quantitative and qualitative study of secondary school pupils in Poland. The basic concepts of competence are discussed, groups of competencies relevant to the profession of religion teacher are characterized. Also presented are the results of research on the opinions of secondary school pupils regarding the person of a religion teacher/catechist.

Opis:: Religion teachers play a unique role in educating the young generation. In addition to the tasks assigned to all teachers in general, they are to support students in their spiritual development, conditioning their ability to understand themselves, build their own identity, and give meaning to their lives. Catechists face a difficult task, because young people, although they are very interested in religion and spirituality, also have many doubts, questions, and dilemmas in this sphere. The article aims to present the expectations of high school students towards catechists related to their personality traits, skills, psychosocial competencies, and their approach to pupils. Data obtained in a survey conducted with a group of 70 high school graduates show that young people need a catechist whom they can trust in the most important matter, which is the meaning of human life. Thus, they expect catechists to give a credible testimony of faith, have good substantive preparation, treat them subjectively like partners, and are ready to undertake an open dialogue with them.

Opis:: Dla Franciszka ewangelizacja jest kluczem do reformy Kościoła. Wierni świeccy zaś są ważnym i niemożliwym do zastąpienia podmiotem tego dzieła. Niniejsze opracowanie ukazuje wybrane inspiracje papieża odnoszące się do udziału laikatu we współczesnej ewangelizacji. W pierwszej części artykułu wskazano na eklezjologię papieża, która stoi u podstaw jego myśli dotyczącej misyjnego posłannictwa wiernych świeckich. Przedstawiono tu także konkretne przestrzenie ewangelizacji, w których Franciszek postrzega świeckich jako aktywne podmioty. Następnie omówiono dwa najbardziej oryginalne dla Franciszka wezwania, jak przestroga przed klerykalizmem oraz zachęta do realizacji synodalności Kościoła. W końcu ukazano nauczanie Franciszka w perspektywie realizacji prorockiej funkcji Kościoła. Skoncentrowano się tu na teologicznym i pastoralnym odczytaniu ustanowionej przez papieża posługi katechisty. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwoliły stwierdzić, że nauczanie Franciszka, dotyczące udziału świeckich w ewangelizacji, posiada wiele nowych akcentów. W pojmowaniu ewangelizacji obecny papież zachowuje jednak hermeneutykę ciągłości z nauką Soboru Watykańskiego II. Wezwania Franciszka mogą zdynamizować współczesną ewangelizację i przyczynić się do odnowy Kościoła.
For Francis, evangelization is the key to reforming the Church. The lay faithful, on the other hand, are an important and irreplaceable subject of this work. This study presents the Pope’s selected inspirations regarding the participation of the laity in contemporary evangelization. The first part, of the article points to the Pope’s ecclesiology, which underpins his thoughts concerning the missionary assignment of the lay faithful. It also presents specific areas of evangelization in which Francis sees the laity as active subjects. Next, two of Francis’ original exhortations are discussed, namely, his warning against clericalism and an encouragement to implement the synodality of the Church. Finally, the teachings of Francis are presented in the perspective of fulfilling the Church’s prophetic function. The focus here is on the theological and pastoral reading of the catechist’s ministry established by the Pope. The analyzes showed that Francis’ teaching on the participation of the laity in evangelization has many new accents. However, when understanding evangelization, the present pope maintains a hermeneutic continuity with the teachings of the Vatican Council. Francis’ invocations can stimulate contemporary evangelization and contribute to the Church’s renewal.

Opis:: Od czasów apostolskich świeccy w różny sposób współpracowali z przedstawicielami hierarchii kościelnej w posłudze słowa. Od V wieku obserwuje się wyraźnie rezerwowanie przepowiadania dla osób wyświęconych. Od początku XIX wieku duchowni zachęcali osoby świeckie do apostolatu świeckiego. Obecnie, zwłaszcza po Soborze Watykańskim II, świeccy zachęcani są do podejmowania autonomicznych posług w Kościele: lektora, akolity i katechisty. Paweł VI zachęcał do przywrócenia we współczesnym Kościele tej zagubionej z czasem szlachetnej Tradycji. Aż do pontyfikatu Franciszka posługi te były zastrzeżone tylko dla mężczyzn. Obecnie są do nich dopuszczone także kobiety. Posługa katechisty różni się od nauczania religii w szkole i od apostolatu świeckich. Zadaniem katechistów jest „pierwsze głoszenie”, przygotowanie wierzących do przyjęcia sakramentów, przepowiadanie katechetyczne orazformacja stała wierzących. Świeccy nie mogą głosić homilii podczas mszy świętej, ale poza tym mogą współpracować z wyświęconymi w podejmowaniu zadań duszpasterskich. Właściwym miejscem ich posługi jest parafia.
Since apostolic times, lay people have cooperated in various ways with representatives of the hierarchy in different forms of preaching. Since the fifth century, there has been a clear reservation of preaching for ordained ministers. From the beginning of the nineteenth century, clergy encouraged lay people to participate in the lay apostolate. Now, especially after the Second Vatican Council, lay people are encouraged to undertake autonomous ministries in the Church: lector, acolyte and catechist. Paul VI encouraged the restoration of this noble Tradition in the contemporary Church. Until Francis, these ministries were reserved only to men. Currently, women are also admitted to them. The ministry of a catechist differs from teaching religion at school and from the apostolate of the laity. The task of catechists is “the first proclamation”, the preparation of believers to receive the sacraments, catechetical preaching and the ongoing formation of believers. Lay people cannot preach the homily at Mass, but may collaborate with the ordained in their pastoral work. The proper place of their ministry is the parish.
