Opis:
A detailed comparison of catalytic properties of two different ruthenium-based catalysts in the reaction of homogeneous hydrogenation of acetophenone was performed. Additionally, methods of synthesis of both catalysts were tested and optimized in order to achieve the best possible quality and purity of the final catalysts. NMR analysis was used to analyze and identify the composition of ruthenium compounds and gas chromatography was used to analyze the conversion rate of hydrogenation reactions. It was determined that RuCl2(PPh3)3 obtained with a modified method described by Shaw’s group (Shawet al., 2007) had the best catalytic properties in the reaction performed under conditions described in Liang Wang’s publication (Wang et al., 2014). It was also determined that for concentration ratio of substrate to RuCl2(PPh3)3 amounting to 250:1 the conversion rate was much higher than that of the reaction performed with a double dose of the catalyst. Results of experiments also show that samples of the post-reaction solution should be analyzed right after the reaction, because even if they are stored in low temperature the amount of product can change up to 3–5% compared to the base sample and this change is not predictable. These findings have significant implications for further research of the reaction of homogeneous transfer hydrogenation of ketones. With the right catalysts and methods of their synthesis other parameters of this reaction can be optimized. The most important one is a change of solvent from isopropyl alcohol to a less toxic substance like water. This may increase the value of the reaction in green chemistry and chemical industry.

Opis:
The activity of Pd/Al2O3 catalysts increases when Pd content is increased from 1% to 2%. Among these catalysts, 2%Pd/Al2O3 shows the highest methane combustion activity. In a reduced form, the catalyst displays a higher activity than in the oxidized form. 24-hour ageing at 600oC to 800oC lowers the catalytic activity of 2%Pd/Al2O3 due to Pd crystallite sintering. After 110-hour oxidation of 1% methane in air over 2%Pd/Al2O3, conversion decreases from 100% to 88%. Upon reduction with hydrogen (performed after 24-hour ageing at 700oC and 110-hour methane oxidation), the 2%Pd/Al2O3 catalyst regains its initial activity. The high activity of Pd catalysts renders them suitable for methane removal from coal mine ventilation air at high gas fl ow velocities and temperatures lower than 600oC.

Opis:
Various kinds of active alumina supports were obtained by the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT) sol-gel process in the following steps: (1) preparation of alumina sols by extraction of nitrates with Primene JMT from aluminium nitrate solution; (2) gelation to spherical particles (with diameter < 100 žm) by extraction of water from sol emulsion in 2-ethyl-1-hexanol; (3) sometimes conversion of NO3 - stabilized gel to OH- form by reaction with ammonia; (4) calcination of gels to ?-Al2O3 with specific surface area > 100 m2/g at 500°C. The powders were then impregnated with chloroplatinic acid and recalcined at 500°C. Catalysts were also prepared by direct gelation of alumina sol containing hydroplatinic acid followed by steps (3) and (4). Pt/Al2O3 catalysts were used for the reduction of 1M UO2(NO3)2 - 0.5M HCOOH solution with hydrogen at atmospheric pressure. The course of the reduction was controlled analytically and by measuring the U(VI)/U(IV) redox potential. It was concluded that the catalysts obtained by impregnation of the supports prepared from nitrate stabilized gels exhibit the best activity and stability.

Hydrogen Peroxide in various concentrations has been and still is used in chemical rocket propulsion. The higher concentration of HP water solution the higher, possible to obtain, performance of an engine. However, the use of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide (above 90%) requires to use special catalysts for its decomposition. These catalysts should withstand thermal and mechanical stress for a lot of cycles as well as long stay-time in very hot – above 900°C – oxygen-rich environment. The project, presented in this paper, is to investigate a specific group of catalyst, consisted of ceramic aluminum oxide pellets, acting as support, with the active phase, containing manganese oxides. The active phase is doped with iron, chromium and cobalt oxides and promoted with samarium and lanthanum oxides. The investigation will be made using special catalyst chambers. Internal chamber conditions – flow, pressure, temperature – will be similar to those, which are in rocket engines. The result of this work will serve as a reference to assess the usefulness of various catalysts for HTP decomposition and its utilization in rocket propulsion.

Hydrogen production through steam reforming of ethanol (SRE) over the Ca-modified Co/SBA-15 catalysts was studied herein to evaluate the catalytic activity, stability andthebehavior of coke deposition. The Ca-modified SBA-15 supports were prepared from the Ca(NO3)2•4H2O (10 wt%) which was incorporated to SBA-15 by incipient wetness impregnation (assigned as Ca/SBA-15) and direct hydrothermal (assigned as Ca-SBA-15) method. The active cobalt species from the Co(NO3)2•6H2O (10 wt%) was loaded to SiO2, SBA-15 and modified-SBA-15 supports with incipient wetness impregnation method to obtain the cobalt catalysts (named as Co/SiO2, Co/SBA-15, Co-Ca/SBA-15 and Co/Ca-SBA-15, respectively). The prepared catalysts were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and BET.The catalytic performance of the SRE reaction was evaluated in a fixed-bed reactor. The results indicated that the Co/Ca-SBA-15 catalystwas preferential among these catalysts and the ethanol can be converted completely at 375 °C. The hydrogen yield (YH2) approached 4.76 at 500 °C and less coke deposited. Further, the long-term stabilitytest of this catalyst approached100h at 500 °C and did not deactivate.

Nitrogen oxide conversion to nitrogen over Pt/Al2O3, Pd/Al2O3, Rh/Al2O3 catalysts was investigated. The results of the catalytic activity investigations, with the iso-x method, showed that NO reduction by methane occurs at a reasonable rate at the temperature range 200-500°C. Alumina-supported Pd, Pt and Rh catalysts have been compared for the selective reduction of NO to N2. All the catalysts showed good activity in NO reduction by methane, giving around 80 - 90% N2 production. At moderate temperatures Pt is the most active catalyst for the removal of NO.

The paper indicates coal mines as the source of permanent emission of low-concentrated gases, which have increased the greenhouse effect. This paper proposes the catalytic oxidation of methane as the solution to the problem of methane utilization when its concentration in the air is insufficient for flame combustion. The studies which have been conducted for many years enabled finding the active oxide and metallic catalytic systems for the reaction of methane oxidation. For the utilization of gases with low-concentrated methane, using the low-temperature catalysts, especially palladium catalysts, seems to he economically well-justified. Depending on technological solutions it can be considered as the method for methane utilization or as an environmentally friendly way for the generation of electric and thermal energy.

Palygorskite (PG) supported La1-xSrxMnO3 catalysts were fabricated by copreripitation. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific surface area (SSA) and H2 temperature programmed reduction (H 2-TPR). Catalytic activity for VOCs was examined by using toluene as a model compound. The results show that the surface area as well as mechanical strength of catalysts increase substantially after catalysts loaded in PG. XRD patterns show that after calcination at 700 0C, PG as a support in 9% LaMn03/PG and 9% La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG was transformed into amorphous phase and the morphology was not destroyed. It was well established that the main reductive components are factually Mn(III) or Mn(IV) oxides in catalysts based on the results of TPR. It was also found that Mn(IV) increases while Mn(III) reduces responding with the increasing amount of Sr. Toluene conversion rate of as-preparedμ% La1-xSr xMnO3/PG increases with the increasing values of x and μ when x=0-0.3 and μ = 3-9%. Toluene can be converted completely at 285 0C by 9% La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG catalyst while no significant change was observed after addition on the doping and loading amount of Sr. During a 100 h stability experiment of 9% La 0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG catalyst, toluene removal was found to be above 95%.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of the measurements of the catalytic activity of V2O5/TiO2 and MoO3/TiO2 catalysts (8,10,12 and 15 wt % of V2O5 or MoO3 on TiO2 - anatase, respectively), prepared in our laboratory, in the complete oxidation (combustion) process of chosen volatile organic pollutants of the air such as methanol and n-butyl acetate. The activity of these catalysts was compared with the activity of industrial catalysts: supported platinum - Pt-p (0.15 wt % of Pt on γ-Al2O3) and MCA (15 wt % of CuO and 6 wt % of ZnO on γ-Al2O3). The investigations were carried out in the kinetic region (powder of the catalysts with the diameter in the range of 1.02-1.2ź10-4 m) and for the chosen catalysts also in the diffusion region (the grains of the catalysts having the diameter of 2.5ź10-3 m). On the basis of the obtained results the analysis of the process was performed. It has been stated that reaction rate is well-described by the first order equation in relation to the methanol or n-butyl acetate concentration. On the basis of the obtained results in the kinetic region for all the applied catalysts the parameters of Arrhenius equation were determinated. The comparison of the results for the kinetic region with the results for the diffusion region for the chosen catalysts allowed the calculation of the effective coefficients of diffusion. The parameters of Arrhenius equations as well as the effective coefficients of diffusion show a good correlation with the values obtained for the catalytic combustion of other organic pollutants of the air. The measurements were carried out using a flow tubular reactor. The flow rate of the reaction mixture was kept constant 20 dm3/h (5.56ź10-6 m3/s) in each test, using the space velocity of 20 s-1. It has been stated that the use of the applied catalysts led to the almost total oxidative destruction of both pollutants. Only H2O and CO2 were found as the final products of the reaction. The complete oxidation of the methanol process runs at the lower temperature than that of the complete oxidation process of n-butyl acetate. The most active at the combustion of methanol was the Pt-p catalyst. It demonstrates a comparable activity to molybdenum - titanium catalysts and the slightly lower activity than vanadium - titanium catalysts in the combustion of the n- butyl acetate process. The MCA catalyst was less active than the others in the oxidation of both compounds. The structures of the catalysts were tested using the X -ray analysis (XRD), infrared spectroscopy and scanning microscopy (SEM). The results of the investigations show that V2O5/TiO2 and MoO3/TiO2 catalysts, especially the most active of them the 8% V2O5/TiO2 catalyst can be used in industrial systems for the purification of the air and industrial waste gases with VOCs, replacing the more expensive noble metals supported catalysts.

A nitric acid plant in Devnya, Bulgaria has implemented a project for catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide which resulted in reducing N2O emissions from the plant and the overall N2O emissions from the industrial sector in Bulgaria. After implementing the catalyst in September 2005 till the end of 2011, a total amount of 3133 Mg N2O emissions has been measured while the supposed value of N2O emissions without the catalyst being installed would have been 9747 Mg which means a total reduction of 6614 Mg.
