The article presents the subject of God’s love in J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s interpretation. The theme of God’s love, according to Ratzinger, is not to be reduced to one of the many theological issues to be discussed. Pope puts the love of God at the center of the Christian life as a principle and interpretative key. It is no coincidence that the first encyclical Deus caritas est, inaugurating his pontificate, begins with the words which are the profession of faith in the name of God who is Love. This agapetological feature of the Papal reflection sets the frame of his theology and points at the sphere where it reaches its essence and consummation. The subject of God’s love is discussed in two parts of the article: the first one consists of the analysis of the three terms: eros, agape and caritas, which are the three aspects of love. The philosophical and biblical analysis of these expressions made by Benedict XVI allows him to extract the essence of divine love. In the second part of the present article, the three moments reflecting the whole dynamics of love in the teaching of the Pope will be discussed: the source of love in the Triune God (1), the concretization and the fullest revelation of love in the person and work of Jesus Christ (2), and the relationship between the love of God and the love of man (3). The latter ultimately becomes a human response based on the primacy of God’s love, and turns into a divine-human love.

This paper is an attempt to outline the scope and effects of Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical Deus Caritas Est more than ten years after its publication in January 2006. It depicts the context of this encyclical within the papal Magisterium since Vatican II and the scope of this document as a call for the Church to readjust Herself according to the hierarchy of truths and to focus on the basic elements of Christian faith in order to renew Herself in Her mission in the service of love. In order to achieve more of the desired effects of both Pope Benedict’s and Pope Francis’ pastoral Magisterium for the renewal of the Church and also of theology, the theological curriculum needs to integrate Caritas Science as a theological discipline which studies this essential dimension of the Church from both theological and interdisciplinary perspectives.

The holistic impact on seniors – the experience of the Centre for Ageing Support Caritas Archdiocese of KrakowOlder people are beginning to constitute the largest social group in the overall structure of the Polish population. Today’s seniors are significantly different from their peers before 10–20 years. Currently, a large group of older generation wants to continue to be active, full members of society. In order to decrease the negative attitudes towards old age and valorization of this period of life arise various kinds of institutions that focus on the constructive use of the potential of seniors while creating the conditions for self-realization. In this paper are shown different forms of impacts on seniors who join in the life of the local community by participating in the Centre for Ageing Support Caritas Archidiocese of Krakow. Thanks to the commitment of the oldest generation in this type of activity it becomes possible overall impact on an elderly man who despite the loss of biological may experience a high quality of life.

Artykuł stanowi próbę odczytania na nowo encykliki społecznej Jana Pawła II Sollicitudo rei socialis w dwadzieścia pięć lat po jej napisaniu. Encyklika ta dotyczy solidarności jako zasady życia społecznego. Korzeniem tej myśli jest powstały w Polsce ruch społeczny NSZZ „Solidarność”, który inspiruje papieża do napisania encykliki o potrzebie globalnej solidarności w kontekście rosnącego podziału świata na bogatą Północ i biedne Południe. Patrząc na powyższy problem z perspektywy dwudziestu pięciu lat, w niniejszym artykule próbujemy odpowiedzieć na pytania: Czy ten rażący podział świata się zwiększa, czy zmniejsza? Czy globalizacja stała się narzędziem solidarności, czy wyzysku? Jak należ, w świetle powyższych problemów widzieć obecny kryzys finansowy dotykający bogaty świat? Artykuł ten jest więc próbą oceny globalizacji od strony etycznej. Pokazuje największe zagrożenie, jakie to zjawisko ze sobą niesie – problem delokalizacji kapitału.
The article is an attempt to read anew John Paul’s II social encyclical Sollicitudo rei socialis twenty five years after its being written. The Encyclical deals with solidarity as a rule of social life – social virtue. The article shows first the origin of the pope’s thought, who transplants the lay rule of solidarity into the ground of the social teaching of the Church. The root of that thought is the social movement ”NSZZ Solidarity” which sprang into existence in Poland and which inspires the pope to write the encyclical about the global solidarity in the context of the division of the world into the rich North and the poor South. Looking at the above problem from the perspective of twenty five years, the above article tries to answer the question whether that striking division of the world increases or decreases. Has globalization become the tool of solidarity or exploitation? How should we, in the light of the above problems, see the present financial crisis, touching the rich world? That article is then the attempt to evaluate the phenomenon of globalization from the ethical point of view, showing its greatest threat, it carries with itself – the problem of delocalization of the capital.

Jaki jest główny sens słowa „caritas”? Na to pytanie autor stara się odpowiedzieć za pomocą metody analizy strukturalnej tekstu. Przeszukał i poddał analizie ilościowej kluczowe pojęcia z zakresu nauki o caritas w Ewangelii św. Marka i w innych dokumentach norm eklezjalnych. Końcowy wynik analiz wskazuje, iż pojęcie „caritas” oznacza przede wszystkim aktywność i odpowiedzialność. W dru-giej części tego artykułu zostały podane pewne wskazówki, jak zrealizować tę odpowiedzialność i działanie w zakresie działalności charytatywnej Kościoła.
What is the main sense of the word Caritas? We try to answer with the method of the text analysis. We search the key worlds in the Gospel of Marc and in different documents of ecclesial norms (Encyclical Deus Caritas Est, Motu propio Intima Ecclesiae Natura). The end-result is: Caritas mean: activity and responsibility. In the second part of our article we give some advises how to realize this responsibility and activity. This activity can be realised only trough the cooperation of different levels the transactions, but the key his efectivness is the precise definition the goals of our activity.

Za pewnego rodzaju „klucz interpretacyjny” teologii kapłaństwa w ujęciu Jana Pawła II można uznać teologiczną i antropologiczną kategorię „daru z siebie”, poprzez który człowiek najpełniej może zrealizować swoje życiowe powołanie. „Dar z siebie” staje się podstawowym warunkiem uczestnictwa i budowania wspólnoty osób (communio personarum). W takiej perspektywie powołanie kapłańskie, jako spotkanie osób dokonujące się w dialogu pomiędzy Bogiem a człowiekiem, prowadzi do odkrycia dynamizmu „daru z siebie”. Według Jana Pawła II powołanie kapłańskie jest darem i tajemnicą. Otrzymany i przyjęty dar powołania wzywa bowiem do odpowiedzi nań poprzez wolny i bezinteresowny dar z samego siebie dla Boga i dla ludzi. Ta wzajemność w postawie daru odkrywa głębię tajemnicy miłości, która jako caritas pastoralis stanowi zasadę jednoczącą życie i posługę prezbitera. Kapłańska postawa Jana Pawła II jest najlepszym potwierdzeniem jego nauczania na temat kapłaństwa jako „daru z siebie”, a jednocześnie to nauczanie jest odzwierciedleniem jego osobistej świętości kapłańskiej.
The theological and anthropological category of “the gift of selfgiving”, through which a man can fully realize his life vocation, can be accepted as a certain kind of “interpretative key” of priesthood theology seen by John Paul II”. The gift of selfgiving” becomes the vital condition of participating and building community of people (communio personarum). In such a perspective, priestly vocation, as the meeting of persons done in the dialogue between God and a human being, leads to discovering dynamism of the “gift of selfgiving”. According to John Paul II, priestly vocation is a gift and a mystery. For received and accepted gift of vocation calls for accepting it by free and unbiased gift of selfgiving for God, and for people. This mutuality in the attitude of the gift, discovers the depth of the mystery of love, which as caritas pastoralis constitutes the rule, uniting the life and ministry of the presbyter. Priestly attitude of John Paul II is the best confirmation of his teaching about priesthood as “the gift of selfgiving” and at the same time this teaching is the reflection of his personal priestly holiness.

Wielka liczba uchodźców z Ukrainy zmienia obraz zaangażowania charytatywnego w Polsce i Niemczech. Organizacja Caritas odpowiada specjalnymi programami wsparcia wolontariuszy pracujących z uchodźcami. Działania te oznaczają nowy rodzaj wolontariatu, zmieniają postawy obywatelskie w obu krajach, ale także przyczyniają się do rozwoju kościoła poza podstawową odpowiedzialnością społeczną.
The large number of refugees in Ukraine is changing the charitable commitment in Poland and Germany. Institutional Caritas is responding with special programmes to support volunteers who work with refugees. These measures stand for a new volunteerism, for a changed civil society in both countries, but also for a church development out of social responsibility.

Fr Augustyn Szarnowski (1892–1963), born in Naterki near Olsztyn, canon regular, was one of the most outstanding priests in Warmia. He published several articles in the diocesan paper, Ermlädisches Kirchenblatt. He worked in different parishes near Olsztyn before and after 1945. He treated all his parishioners with equal care, both native Warmians and those who settled there after the Second Word War. During his time as a director of the diocesan Caritas he endured a lot of humiliation at the hands of two totalitarian regimes, Nazism and Communism. He was imprisoned by the Nazis for 18 months in 1941–1942. He hold several important posts in the diocese. He was a diocesan consultor since 20.10.1948, a cathedral canon since 01.08.1951, and a parish priest of St James’s co-cathedral from 1954 to 1956.

The article discusses Pope Benedict XVI’s / Joseph Ratzinger’s understanding of revelation. It shows the bases for his understanding to be found in the theology of St. Bonaventure, more specifically in the Doctor Seraphicus’ Hexaëmeron. It is on the theology of history in Bonaventure that Ratzinger had written his terminal paper. This will allow him to impact Vatican II in an original way. The essay describes how the young peritus Joseph Ratzinger contributed in a most decisive way to the dogmatic constitution on divine revelation Dei Verbum’s recalibration of the nature of revelation. It also discusses hope Pope Benedict‘s teaching office thematized revelation. Revelation is ultimately neither Scripture nor tradition, but the self-disclosure of the Triune God in the Thou of Jesus Christ.

Artykuł prezentuje przeprowadzone przez niego analizy, zmierzające do ujęcia istoty miłości jako aktu angażującego całość osobowości człowieka, w spełnianiu którego człowiek zobowiązany jest kierować się obiektywną prawdą o dobru.
The term love appears to be one of the most often used and abused as well. Franciszek Sawicki, one of the most important Polish philosophers, noticed this fact almost a century ago. The article presents his analyses embracing the nature of love as an act in which human person in whole its integrity gets involved, indicating at the same time the inseparable bond between love and truth.
