Opis:
Salt is obtained in various regions of the world and using differing technologies. The origin of the salt and its production methods influence its composition, properties and application possibilities. In recent years, sea salt has attracted a lot of interest, as it is commonly believed that it is richer in minerals than pure evaporated salt. One of the oldest methods of extracting edible salt in the world is the evaporation of seawater. Salinas are found in coastal zones of seas and oceans around the world. The salt obtained in the salin is transported to its destination by various means of transport, including sea transport. Taking into account the classification of sea cargo, salt is classified as solid mass cargo, and due to the physicochemical properties of salt, the transport of this product by sea requires security. The aim of this study was to present selected quality parameters of sea salt that are important in its transport and storage. Parameters relevant from the point of view of transport, storage, technology and processing, which are important in shaping the quality of sea salts were compared in salts obtained in various European salinas vs. Himalayan salt. These parameters included water activity, degree of granulation and discharge angle and embankment angle. The paper also presents the characteristics of sea salts from microscopic analysis and an assessment of the correct labeling of the product, which is important for the consumer of the packaged product. In land transport, not only sea salt is transported in bulk, but also the product in commercial packaging, most often weighing 1 kg.

In our laboratory we quite often experience problems with the operation of steel ropes. There is a range of causes related to lifetime problems of ropes. These problems are related to poor quality of input material used for wire production, mixing of different wire strengths in the rope construction, improper roping of the rope into the hoist system, improper rope operation, improper rope design for a particular type of operation as well as unfair practices of vendors. The subject of the article is the analysis of the rope showing the combination of a large number of the above factors leading to the damage of the rope. During the operation of the cargo cableway, the hauling ropes were damaged in a very short time. The Z wires from the surface layer of the rope started to release from the rope. Subsequently, the wires were unwinding from the layer, they created visible protuberant waves, they were braking and dropping out from the rope. The hauling rope had to be replaced. Than the samples were taken from the rope in order to find out the cause of the rope damage. Mechanical, metallographic and fractographic measurements were performed on the rope. The metallographic and fractographic measurements revealed the material defects of the wires of the rope caused during manufacturing of the Z wires from the surface layer of the hauling rope. The mechanical tests revealed differences in the tensile strength grade the operator required compering to the tensile strength grade the vendor declared. The above mentioned problems unambiguously show that it is appropriate to introduce a mechanical control of the rope properties in advance to its deployment. Checks must be performed by an independent testing laboratory. This procedure overprices inputs needed for the rope replacement. On the other hand, it can reduce the costs when a poor quality rope is deployed. Some of our customers have already adopted this approach. It helped to the increase in the safety of the operation of the mechanisms and it eliminated the problems with exchange and climes on bad quality ropes.

Opis:
The increasing needs for carrying bulk cargoes between continents by means of marine transport have increased interest in the subject of safe carriage of these cargoes by sea. Soybean seed cake is one of many bulk cargoes, currently the best substitute of animal protein in the composition of fodder. As loose bulk cargo, soybean seed cake is carried by various specialist means of land and water transport. During transport by sea this cargo tends to pour athwart on board, in effect causing to shift the ship's gravity centre and then a list favouring further pouring of the cargo, capable of causing the vessel to capsize. There has been presented the effect of selected transport and technological quality factors, namely static angle of repose, kinetic angle of repose and the size and shape of particles on the transport safety of soybean seed cake by sea. Research results have been depicted on graphs and described statistically.
Zwiększające się potrzeby przewożenia ładunków masowych pomiędzy kontynentami środkami transportu morskiego spowodowały wzrost zainteresowań zagadnieniem bezpiecznego przewozu tych ładunków drogą morską. Jednym z wielu ładunków masowych jest śruta sojowa, będąca obecnie najlepszym zamiennikiem białka zwierzęcego w składzie pasz. Jako sypki ładunek luzem śruta sojowa przewożona jest różnymi specjalistycznymi środkami transportu lądowego i wodnego. Podczas transportu drogą morską ładunek ten wykazuje skłonność do poprzecznego przesypywania się na burtę, powodując przemieszczenie środka ciężkości statku, a następnie przechył sprzyjający dalszemu przesypywaniu się ładunku, mogący w efekcie doprowadzić do przewrócenia się jednostki pływającej. Przedstawiono wpływ wybranych wyróżników jakości transportowo-technologicznej, a mianowicie kąta nasypu, naturalnego zsypu oraz wielkości i kształtu cząstek na bezpieczeństwo przewozu śruty sojowej drogą morską. Wyniki badań zilustrowano na wykresach i opracowano statystycznie.

Safety of carrying bulk cargoes is an important problem in all stages of the supply chain. At the moment, soybean seed cake is one of the many bulk cargoes, which is the best substitute of protein in the composition of fodder. During the transport, soybean seed cake is mostly under the form of loose cargo and is carried by various and specialized means of sea and overland transport. There are occurred the quality changes of soybean seed cake during the transport processes that are understood as the followed cyclical operations of warehousing, handling and transportation by various means of transport. A lot of characteristics are subject to changes. They are decisive in the nutritional value and in the susceptibility of transport, and they are determining the basic quality-creative factors in the scope of usable quality called functional quality. Maintaining of initial quality of soybean seed in transport process depends on providing the optimal condition of storage, handling and transportation. The influence of functional quality factor that means susceptibility to oxidation in relation to safety of soybean seed cake sea transport is presented. The results of researches are provided on diagrams and evaluated by statistic methods.
