In the paper a typology of counselors is discussed , that consist of three types: conservatist, harmful anachronistic activist and caring protector. Each of them has specific traits in counseling practice. Despite the type, the author underlines a necessity of good actual knowledge about the labour market to fulfill their tasks effectively. He enumerates categories of employees that are most wanted: craftsman, highly educated specialists, non-qualified physical workers, businessmen, protectors and multifunctional workers.

Introduction: This paper focuses on providing social care to a close relative. It is crucial in social services. Design: qualitative methodology – method of semi-structured interviews. Methods: respondents were selected to satisfy specific criteria. Particularly, these criteria were the care of a close relative who was assigned level III or IV care benefits. Another criterion according to which we selected respondents was that the carer belonged to the age group in which a person is still usually economically active. The research sample consisted of 6 respondents. Results: Based on the data analysis, we created categories to present the content of semi-structured interviews. Needs focusing on the body carried over into maintenance of one’s own physical and mental health are: the need for safety, the need for acceptance, the need for acknowledgement and respect, and the need for self-fulfilment and perspective. Conclusions: It is important to identify the care of a close relative, the specifics and needs, in the interests of configuring effective management of medical, psychological and social care, and creation of a system of social protection.

The presented article concerns the phenomenon of infantilization of the elderly in many areas of everyday by their family carers. Infantilization means treating an adult like a child. In the sphere of language, this phenomenon is called baby-talk. Often infantilization of the elderly concerns the sphere of communication. The author of the article shows that not only during conversations they are treated as children. Family carers showed signs of infantilization, referring to the care and nursing of the elderly under their care. This article is an excerpt from a broader study of family carers for the elderly. The study was conducted with 20 carers of the elderly using the unstructured interview method in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The analysis of the research material was performed using the MAXQDA software. The result of a broad analysis is the research report presented in this study, which shows that infantilization is multidimensional and nonconscious. It results from the lack of preparation of the family carers for the role of a caregiver. Due to their insufficient knowledge about looking after an old person, the careres are forced to base their knowledge on their experience as parents.

A contemporary physiotherapist is not only an outstanding specialist with extensive knowledge and practical skills, but also a man with determined personality traits. The main principle for the physiotherapist in fulfilling their duties is motivating „service for health and for human life”. Therefore, personality traits gain a special significance in their work, for which the help for others, the protection of their health and lives are the main message, as well as preventative practices. Personality traits are indicators of physiotherapy action, which provide a specific path for this action to follow, which point out the correct way. Defining the personality model of the physiotherapist is a part of the axiology of physiotherapy itself, of the model of a perfect member of this socio-professional group, equipped with diverse personality traits - moral-social features, mind, character, professional, intellectual. Living and working in a democratic society, a physiotherapist should know and remember the characteristics of Tadeusz Kotarbiński’s reliable carer, the ethics of reverence for life as presented by that great doctor of the humanities Albert Schweitzer, and about the selected civic virtues which Maria Ossowska presented in her article „The model of a citizen in democracy”. And so an attempt to design the ideal model of the contemporary physiotherapist, as desired within a democratic society, constitutes the purpose of this study.
Współczesny fizjoterapeuta to nie tylko znakomity specjalista posiadający szeroką. wiedzę i umiejętności praktyczne, ale człowiek posiadający określone cechy osobowości. Wypełniając swoje obowiązki fizjoterapeucie przyświeca główna zasada „służba zdrowiu i życiu ludzkiemu”. W związku z tym cnoty moralne nabierają szczególnego znaczenia w jego pracy, której głównym przesłaniem jest pomoc drugiemu człowiekowi, ochrona jego zdrowia i życia, a także profilaktyka zdrowotna. Cnoty są wyznacznikami działania fizjoterapeutycznego, które nadają określony tor tym działaniom, wskazują na właściwy sposób oddziaływania. Zadaniem aksjologii fizjoterapii jest zdefiniowanie wzoru osobowego fizjoterapeuty, który powinien być wyposażony w różnorodne cnoty, między innymi sprawiedliwość, troskliwość, szacunek, współczucie, łagodność, odpowiedzialność. żyjąc i pracując w demokratycznym społeczeństwie, fizjoterapeuta powinien znać i pamiętać także o cechach spolegliwego opiekuna opisanego przez Tadeusza Kotarbińskiego, etyce czci dla życia według wielkiego lekarza humanisty Alberta Schweitzera, czy o cnotach obywatelskich, które prezentuje Maria Ossowska w swoim artykule „Wzór obywatela w ustroju demokratycznym”. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zatem próba zaprojektowania idealnego wzoru współczesnego fizjoterapeuty, pożądanego w demokratycznym społeczeństwie.

The main aim of the article is to describe how older men who are caring for their wives construct their mas- culinity in the face of their new role and tasks. My research draws on semi-structured, in-depth interviews with ten men between 64 and 90 years old who are the primary carers for their wives. The findings revealed four ways in which older care-givers talk about masculinity, and for all of them hegemonic masculinity was a point of reference. Masculinity was defined not only in relation to the carer’s role, but also old age and the state of men’s health. The ways of perceiving the activity of caring were crucial. Analysis allowed the main motives of providing care to emerge: obligation, love, and attachment. The research findings showed that an important factor in the way masculinity is constructed by older men caring for their wives was the definition of care. Men who perceive care as a masculine task feel less frustrated in the care-giver role, and sometimes gain satisfaction and a source of self-esteem from care-giving.

The article points out that the problem of the main binary relation in speech-language therapist (therapist-patient) and the interrelated relationship (speech-language therapist-patient-family/carer) should be addressed with respect to dialogue personalization, respecting the autonomy of each participant in speech-language therapy as well as the specificity of the primary group (family) and secondary (organizational, contractual). The sequence of appropriate interactions, that is, the interactions of the main actors of the diagnostic and therapeutic process, can transform into a lasting relationship and thereby influence the progress in speech-language therapy and the quality of the patient's life, if personal contacts and language announcements are reciprocated with kindness, respect and willingness partner collaboration.

On of the results of demographic changes is, on the one hand – an increasing number of seniors needing care and, on the other hand – a decreasing number of their potential informal carers. Poland, in the matter of senior care, is still a conservative country, where a family is the main institution of care, and where it is also a cultural norm and a moral duty to care about senior family members. However, a family carer may not manage to deal with the number of roles he or she should perform, especially when they are and wish to remain professionally active. The current article is a review of the issue of family care. Firstly, it shows the problems faced by informal carers when undertaking the new role. Secondly, it shows that not self-sufficient seniors in the so-called phase old-old age do not need to stay at home and therefore be socially excluded. They can also remain active.

Introduction. Despite the growing interest in the consequences of caring for patients with Huntington disease (pHD), little is known about the family caregivers of such patients in Poland. Identification of their needs can improve caregivers’ wellbeing, the quality of care and condition of pHD. The aim of this study was to understand the social functioning of family caregivers of pHD and their perception of the caregiving role. Materials and methods. Data was collected from 55 family caregivers of pHD. A structured questionnaire was used consisting of 86 questions subsumed into five domains: ‘Problems’ and ‘Feelings related to caregiving’, ‘Attitude toward caregiving’, ‘Satisfaction with life’ and ‘Perception of healthcare services’. Correlations between the different scales and other characteristics were measured as potential predictors of the burden. Non-parametric statistical methods were used in the analysis. Results. Most respondents experienced a high (50.9%) or moderate (30.95%) feeling of burden. Although 70.9% of caregivers perceived caregiving positively, for many it was a source of negative feelings. Only 10.9% of respondents declared that caregiving decreased their QoL. Carers’ perception of caregiving was mostly influenced by their negative experiences with the healthcare system. Respondents’ domicile, religious practices, age, income, marital status, time of diagnosis and of caregiving, patient’s age and stage of disease also influenced their experiences. Conclusions. Health professionals and policy planners should focus on monitoring caregivers’ health, identifying their needs, sources of distress, and supporting caregivers’ coping strategies. They should also be better educated about the clinical and practical aspects of HD.

Artykuł przedstawia rozwiązania przyjęte przez niemieckiego ustawodawcę w społecznym ubezpieczeniu pielęgnacyjnym, które podkreślają rolę opieki sprawowanej przez krewnych. Zasadnicza część opracowania jest poprzedzona wprowadzeniem oraz genezą ubezpieczenia pielęgnacyjnego w Niemczech. Autor omawia rozwiązania, które w sposób pośredni i bezpośredni przyczyniają się do wspierania opieki sprawowanej nad osobami niesamodzielnymi przez najbliższych. Ubezpieczenie pielęgnacyjne w swoim założeniu nie miało bowiem zwolnić rodziny z obowiązku sprawowania opieki, ale stanowić przede wszystkim system wsparcia takiej opieki, zgodnie z zasadą subsydiarności.
This article presents solutions adopted by the German legislator in social nursing insurance, which emphasize the role of care performed by the relatives. The basic part of the study is preceded by the introduction and origins of nursing insurance in Germany. The author discusses solutions that directly and indirectly contribute to the support of care given to the dependents by the relatives. Nursing insurance was not intended to exempt the family from the obligation to provide care, but rather to provide support for such care, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity.

The literature, popular science media coverage and strategic priorities of such structures like the European Union increasingly often put the accent on the need of cooperation between the economy and the world of science and higher education. Universities, caring for their competitive position on the market and the professional career effects of their education, include the sensitivity on the labour market needs to their priorities also in the aspect of their image. Present publication analyses the determinants of the image of the university putting the accent on the role of the graduates’ carer monitoring and indicates the undertaken actions connected with the higher education and business cooperation. Research was conducted on the group of 392 graduates (of the year 2014 and 2015) from different fields of study and departments (located in various towns) of the University of Computer Sciences and Skills in Lodz. It enabled formulating the conclusions of the application character and delineating the tendencies and future perspectives.

Artykuł zawiera analizę sytuacji zawodowej i oczekiwań wobec opiekunów w żłobku. Jego celem jest ukazanie złożoności obowiązków nałożonych na opiekujących się małymi dziećmi. Autor poprzez zestawienie wymagań prawnych wobec opiekunów z realiami ich codziennej pracy pokazuje trudności w sprostaniu tym wymaganiom. Złożoność zadań, ogromna odpowiedzialność za los najmłodszego pokolenia oraz oczekiwane kompetencje opiekunów nie przekładają się bowiem na stworzone im przez pracodawców warunki pracy. Poruszony problem zmusza do refleksji i podjęcia naukowych rozważań nad rozwiązaniami prawnymi i organizacyjnymi związanymi z pracą opiekunów.
The article contains an analysis of the professional situation and expectations of child carers. Its purpose is to show the complexity of duties imposed on caring for young children. The author, by comparing the legal requirements for carers with the reality of their daily work, shows difficulties in meeting these requirements. The complexity of tasks, huge responsibility for the fate of the youngest generation, and the expected competences of carers do not translate into the working conditions created by employers. The problem raised, forces reflection and scientific considerations on legal and organizational solutions related to the work of carers.

Competence profiles assessment for learning supporters of professionals providing care for older people – presentation of ComPro projectAs a result of labour migration to the old EU countries the nursing staff in the residential and social care institutions in Poland is being extensively repalced by care assistants who are less knowledgable and competent in providing care for the elderly. Moreover the in-job education is poorly developed in those institutions and the position of an in-job educator is not clearly defined. It is observed that competences of the injob educator should be defined and promoted to improve the process of in-job education. This problem has been addressed by the muliticenter study conducted in the framework of a European ComPro project (Competence Profiles for Learning Supporters in Elderly Care) funded by Leonardo da Vinici program (2006–2008). The main goal of the project was to develop the self-assessment tool for persons responsible for in-job education of professionals caring for older persons in social care institutions. In order to help them recognize the deficit competencies the in-job educators should be specially trained to effectively detect professionals’ educational needs.

The aim of this article is to examine how family policies contribute to changes in family practices and towards gender equality in families. Empirically we draw on interviews with two groups of Polish-born parents: Polish parents who have migrated to Norway and Polish parents living in Poland. Norway and Poland are relevant cases for our exploration because they represent different types of welfare states, which have followed different paths towards their current family policy package. In our analysis of actual work–family adaptations we found a convergence towards gender-equal dual-earner/dual-carer arrangements in both groups, although there were differences in the level of agency. Polish parents in Poland felt less entitled to use the measures available to them, and sometimes refrained from using them, compared to Polish parents in Norway who expressed a strong sense of agency in using family policy measures to create a good life in Norway and as part of a project of change towards more gender-equal sharing of work and care responsibilities. The analysis confirms the strong link between family practices and family policies, but also illustrates how the effect of policies on practices may be hampered or boosted by the wider historical-cultural context of the society in question. In conclusion, in analyses of the link between policy and practice it may be fruitful to distinguish between family policy packages – the concrete set of entitlements for working parents – and family policy regimes, meaning policies in their wider context, including migrancy as a mediating factor.

Komentowany wyrok Wojewódzkiego Sądu Administracyjnego w Szczecinie z 10 marca 2022 r., sygn. akt II SA/Sz 1285/21 stanowi głos w sprawach budzących kontrowersję, w których ścierają się odmienne linie orzecznicze. Biorąc pod uwagę, zwłaszcza postanowienie art. 17 ust. 1 ustawy o świadczeniach rodzinnych, zaobserwować można zróżnicowanie sytuacji osób uprawnionych do otrzymywania świadczeń rodzinnych. Niniejszy wyrok może być przykładem interesującego rozwiązania zarówno z perspektywy prawa administracyjnego materialnego, jak i prawa administracyjnego procesowego. Stronie, która wniosła o świadczenie pielęgnacyjne z tytułu rezygnacji z zatrudnienia lub innej pracy zarobkowej w związku ze sprawowaniem opieki nad szwagrem z niepełnosprawnością, odmówiono przyznania świadczenia – dlatego też złożyła ona skargę do Wojewódzkiego Sądu Administracyjnego. Sąd uchylił decyzję, dokonując prokonstytucyjnej wykładni, która odbiegała od brzmienia przepisów sensu stricto. Orzeczenie to wpłynie w istotny sposób na prawo administracyjne. Uznając za zasadne powołanie się na zasadę równości wobec prawa oraz sprawiedliwości społecznej, Wojewódzki Sąd Administracyjny rozszerzył grono osób, które mogą skorzystać ze świadczenia. Tym samym osoby, które tego wymagają, otrzymały wsparcie ze strony system pomocy społecznej, a tym samym przyczyniono się do zmniejszenia wadliwości unormowań prawnych.
The commented judgment of the Voivodship Administrative Court in Szczecin, dated March 10, 2022, ref. no. II SA/Sz 1285/21, is a voice in controversial cases in which different lines of jurisprudence clash. Taking into account, in particular, the provision of Article 17(1) of the Law on Family Benefits, one can observe a differentiation of the situation of those entitled to receive family benefits. This judgment is interesting from the perspective of both substantive administrative law and procedural administrative law. A party who applied for a nursing benefit for giving up employment or other gainful employment in connection with caring for a brother-in-law with a disability was denied the benefit – hence she filed a complaint with the Regional Administrative Court. The court overturned the decision, making a pro-constitutional interpretation that deviated from the strict wording of the regulations. This ruling represents a significant impact on administrative rights. Finding merit in invoking the principles of equality before the law and social justice, the WSA expanded the group of people who can receive the benefit. Thus, the support of those who require it by the social welfare system was accomplished, and contributed to the reduction of the defectiveness of the legal norms.
