Opis:
The efficiency in cross-country skiing commit considerable physiological challenges posed by the combined upper- and lower-body effort of varying intensity and duration. Extremely important for the effectiveness of the work is the ability to draw energy from the processes of aerobic and anaerobic metabolism maintenance work as low as possible during prolonged exercise. The workout should increase maximal aerobic power and the metabolic potential of the muscles. High-intensity exercise is the most important to initiate this change, while low- and moderate-intensity effort allow appropriate muscle adaptation. Monitoring and evaluation of these physiological changes is mandatory in the process of training, in amateur cross-country skier too. Amateur marathons are becoming increasingly popular. This has been an impulse for analyzing the results obtained by the amateur athlete during the preparatory period. The purpose of this retrospective case study was to describe changes in cardiovascular capacity for three months period of an amateur cross-country skier (age = 39, BMI = 20,9). This study based on analysis of source materials, obtained from conducted individually by the athlete registration process of training, the results from test to refuse and the results of measurements of body composition performed in the laboratory functional studies for three months period (preparation period). The results show inter alia increase in maximal oxygen uptake, lactate threshold shift towards higher loads and decrease body weight. This parameter was significantly lower than the performance in highly qualified competitors, but individual changes between the first measurement and the second one was similar. This review summarizes research on amateur cross-country skier. We have the chance to improve our understanding of the impact of various exercises on the human body by analyzing the results from workout monitoring of endurance athletes.

Opis:
The purpose of physical training is to achieve the maximum capacity of the body. These changes are caused by numerous adaptive mechanisms taking place in the circulatory-respiratory, muscular, nervous, hormonal, and immunological systems, as well as in the mass and composition of the body. They are most visible in athletes of endurance disciplines such as cross-country skiing, skiing, long-distance running, roller skiing, triathlon or cycling. These disciplines are characterized by long-term effort and the highest intensity. This applies to both athletes and amateurs. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of physical activity during the period of main preparations on the circulatory and respiratory parameters of amateurs practicing cross-country skiing. This study was a pilot, and show the results of the assessment of the case. The purpose of this retrospective case study was to describe changes in cardiovascular endurance within three months of a male amateur cross country skier. This study was based on the analysis of training registration, ergospirometry test (treadmill test) results and body composition measurements. The results showed an increase in maximum oxygen uptake, a shift of the lactate threshold towards higher loads and a reduction in body weight. This parameter was lower than the performance of highly qualified competitors, but the individual changes between the first measurement and the second were similar. Monitoring and evaluation of these changes are mandatory in the training process, also in amateur sport. It helps to counteract states of fatigue, overtraining and designing pro-health training loads. In addition, they can provide protection for the health of those who make the marathon and ultra- marathon efforts. The popularity of ski marathons is growing. Assessment of participants' exercise capacity can be used to plan training and comparison with professionals.

Opis:
Objectives: Prevention of job loss is an essential objective of cardiovascular rehabilitation. However, comprehensive and economic diagnostic instruments on work limitations are missing. The present study describes development of short form questionnaires from 2 domains of the WCIB-Cardio item banks for the assessment of work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation patients. Materials and Methods: 283 cardiovascular rehabilitation patients were recruited from 14 German rehabilitation clinics. Based on the WCIB-Cardio with the domains of cognitive and physical work capacity, we developed a short form for both domains. Item selection criteria were content coverage, content appropriateness, internal consistency reliability (≥ 0.8). We used correlation of person location scores of the short forms with person location scores of the full item banks to examine the extent of measurement precision. Results: For each domain of the WCIB-Cardio a short form was developed (cognitive work capacity - 14 items; physical work capacity 7 - items). In both domains psychometric properties were good (person separation index: cognitive work capacity - 0.80; physical work capacity - 0.80). Correlation measures of the short form with the full item banks showed a high accordance of person locations for both domains (cognitive work capacity: r = 0.97; physical work capacity: r = 0.95). Conclusions: The calibrated instrument WCIB-Cardio provides the possibility to develop short form questionnaires with high psychometric quality. These short forms make it possible to monitor patient's work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation settings in a more economical way.

Opis:
The extent to which self-report activity measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) can substitute performance-based functional capacity measured by the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) remains inconclusive. This study assessed Physical Activity (PA) and Functional Exercise Capacity (FEC); and also determined the relationship between PA and FEC in apparently healthy young adults. A total of 342 (145 males and 197 females) undergraduates of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile, Nigeria participated in the study. The IPAQ was used to assess PA, while FEC was assessed using the 6MWT, and expressed in terms of the Six-Minute Walk Distance (6MWD), Six-Minute Walk Work (6MWW), Maximum Oxygen Uptake (VO2max) and Metabolic Equivalent (METS). Anthropometric and cardiovascular parameters were measured following standardized procedures. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The alpha level was set at 0.05. The mean age of the participants was 22.0±2.87 years. The mean IPAQ score of all participants was 1471.4±1086.93. The percentage for low, moderate and high PA was 19% (65), 41.2% (141) and 39.8% (136), respectively. The mean 6MWD, 6MWW, VO2max and METS were 639.47 ±66.6 m, 41805.0 ±8520.6 kg·m, 28.9 ±1.92 mlO2k-1min-1, 4.05 ±0.32 mL/kg, respectively. There were signifi cant positive correlations between PA and each of the 6MWD (r=0.268; p=0.001), 6MWW (r=0.219; p=0.001), VO2max (r=0.268; p=0.001), METS (r=0.268; p=0.001). Measures of exercise capacity were not signifi cantly correlated with the anthropometric variables (p>0.05). Self-report of physical activity in healthy young adults does not adequately substitute the results of the Six-Minute Walk Test. Mbada Ch.E., Osifeso T.A., Johnson O.E., Okonji A.M., Odeyemi E.A. Wstęp: Stopień, w jakim deklarowana aktywność fizyczna oceniania za pomocą Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) może zastąpić opartą o wyniki wydolność funkcjonalną mierzoną testem 6-minutowego chodu (6MWT) pozostaje niejednoznaczny. W badaniu tym oceniano aktywność fizyczną (AF) i funkcjonalną wydolność wysiłkową (FEC); a także określono zależność pomiędzy PA i FEC u pozornie zdrowych, młodych dorosłych. Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 342 studentów (145 mężczyzn i 197 kobiet) z Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile, Nigeria. IPAQ został wykorzystany do oceny AF, podczas gdy FEC oceniano za pomocą 6MWT i wyrażono w sześciominutowym dystansie chodu (6MWD), pracy wykonanej podczas sześciominutowego chodu (6MWW), maksymalnym minutowym poborze tlenu (VO2max) i równoważniku metabolicznym (MET). Parametry antropometryczne i układu krążenia były mierzone zgodnie ze standardowymi procedurami. Dane analizowano przy użyciu wnioskowania statystycznego i opisowego. Poziom alfa został ustalony na poziomie 0,05. Wyniki: Średni wiek uczestników wyniósł 22,0 ±2,87 lat. Średni wynik IPAQ wszystkich uczestników to 1471,4 ±1086,93. Procent dla niskiego, średniego i wysokiego poziomu AF to odpowiednio 19% (65), 41,2% (141) i 39,8% (136). Średni 6MWD, 6MWW, VO2max i METS wyniosły odpowiednio 639.47 ±66,6 m, 41805.0±8520,6 kg·m, 28,9±1,92 mlO2k-1min-1, 4,05±0,32 ml/kg. Istnieją znaczące dodatnie korelacje pomiędzy PA i każdym z 6MWD (r=0,268, p=0,001), 6MWW (r=0,219, p=0,001), VO2max (r=0,268, p=0,001), METS (r=0,268; p=0,001).
