Opis:
To reveal the key optimization considerations for the application of elliptic cross-section matrices in axial high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS), the performance of circular and elliptic matrices was investigated experimentally and theoretically, providing that the short axis of elliptic matrix was equal to the diameter of circular matrix. Three schemes were adopted to investigate the performance matrices with ratio of long axis to short axis λ of 1 (circular matrix), 1.6 and 2. Under the same matrix unit number, hematite recovery of elliptic matrices could be 5~20% higher than that of circular matrices. For the case that the separation space was fully filled under the same matrix unit spacing, elliptic matrices showed higher and lower hematite recovery in low and relatively high magnetic field. The particle capture cross section area of elliptic matrix could be 1.4~1.8 times larger than that of circular matrix. Analyses with particle capture models showed that higher hematite recovery was ascribed to the larger particle capture cross section of the elliptic matrices and overlapping of the capture cross section was responsible for the lower hematite recovery of elliptic matrices in relatively high magnetic field. For substitution of circular matrices with elliptic matrices in axial HGMS, overlapping of capture cross section of target particles should be taken into consideration.

Opis:
The Rankine cycle steam turbine power plants make a base for world electricity production. The efficiency of modern steam turbine units is not higher than 43–45%, which is remarkably lower compared to the combined cycle power plants. However, an increase in steam turbine power plant efficiency could be achieved by the rise of initial cycle parameters up to ultra-supercritical values: 700–780◦C, 30–35 MPa. A prospective steam superheating technology is the oxy-fuel combustion heating in a sidemounted combustor located in the steam pipelines. This paper reviews thermal schemes of steam turbine power plants with one or two side-mounted steam superheaters. An influence of the initial steam parameters on the facility thermal efficiency was identified and primary and secondary superheater parameters were optimized. It was found that the working fluid superheating in the side-mounted oxy-methane combustors leads to an increase of thermal efficiency higher than that with the traditional boiler superheating in the initial temperature ranges of 700–780◦C and 660–780◦C by 0.6% and 1.4%, respectively.

The electricity production by combustion of organic fuels, especially coal, increases the atmospheric CO2 content, which contributes to global warming. The greenhouse gas emissions by the power production industry may be reduced by the application of CO2 capture and storage systems, but it remarkably decreases the thermal power plant (TPP) efficiency because of the considerable increase of the auxiliary electricity requirements. This paper describes the thermodynamic analysis of a combined cycle TPP with coal gasification and preliminary carbon dioxide capture from the syngas. Utilization of the heat produced in the fuel preparation increases the TPP net efficiency from 42.3% to 47.2%. Moreover, the analysis included the combined cycle power plant with coal gasification and the CO2 capture from the heat recovery steam generator exhaust gas, and the oxy-fuel combustion power cycle with coal gasification. The coal-fired combined cycle power plant efficiency with the preliminary CO2 capture from syngas is 0.6% higher than that of the CO2 capture after combustion and 9.9% higher than that with the oxy-fuel combustion and further CO2 capture. The specific CO2 emissions are equal to 103 g/kWh for the case of CO2 capture from syngas, 90 g/kWh for the case of CO2 capture from the exhaust gas and 9 g/kWh for the case of oxy-fuel combustion.

The paper explores the assertion about multi-faceted tools of impact used by large corporations that they aim to limit the subjectivity of consumers. It is based on the concept of ‘deep capture’ developed by Jon Hanson and David Yosifon. According to this concept consumers have only the idea of their own subjectivity. The authors’ basic assumption is that human behaviour is largely (but not completely) dependent on external situational factors rather than the individual dispositions of individuals. In this context we analyse the role of large corporations in shaping the image of LGBT people in Poland. Noteworthy seems to be the consideration to build and strengthen the belief that LGBT people are a group which suffers discrimination, to which anyone should make gestures of support throughout consumer decisions. An overview of the activities of business entities for LGBT groups in Poland lets us say that they cannot be called large scale actions. The actions of Polish companies can be recognised as not very intensive. Western transnational corporations have huge experience in actions for LGBT people, but this is not necessarily the case in Poland.

Opis:
This article discusses an instance of case-specific self-inflicted partial media capture, acknowledging the chilling effect of legislation consistent with partial state capture. In general, this case illustrates the ethical and legal dilemmas in the reporting of a specific type of large-scale corruption in the media, which involves the denial of all accusations by most sources and a controversial stand by state authorities and politicians on the issue, forcing the media to primarily report rumors or contradictory claims and denials (after controversial files regarding the corruption were made public anonymously on the internet) or desist from reporting altogether (before the files were made public on the internet, due to possible libel threats). The findings question the normative expectations expressed in democratic theory related to the role of the media as a watchdog, in the specific context of large-scale corruption in post-communist states. Moreover, this paper suggests the need to re-examine the methodological aspects of quantitative content analysis of media coverage of corruption. This paper has also attempted to update the emerging theory on media capture with the term partial case-specific media capture.

Sharks are marine animals that play an important role in marine ecosystems especially as the main predator, thus controlling the dynamics of populations of other organisms at lower trophic levels. Sharks are often caught as a byproduct of capture fisheries in Indonesia, making Indonesia one of the five largest shark contributing countries in the world according to the FAO. A study of shark populations needs to be done to evaluate its stock in nature. The Mayangan Coastal Fishery Port, Probolinggo is one of the largest fishing ports in East Java with the majority of fishing gear used being cantrang. This study will discuss the shark bycatch volume in fishing activities using cantrang fishing gear at PPP Mayangan, Probolinggo. The use of cantrang fishing gear in Mayangan Port Probolinggo has produced around 6242.9 kg of shark production each year for the past 10 years. The highest production was found in 2011 which reached 10980 kg while the lowest was in 2019 with a total production of 412 kg. The pattern of the development of shark catches at PPP Mayangan Probolinggo showed a decrease in the number of catches, indicating the enforcement of law regarding cantrang usage has been well adapted.

Opis:
It is argued in this paper that the relative defi cit of media freedom in most of Central and Eastern Europe as opposed to the relative freedom of the media in most of Western Europe is ultimately rooted in the specifi cities of the former communist countries’ party systems. Young parties in young democracies lack the resources needed for party building and organization, which they compensate for by colonizing the state and the media and by exploiting state and media resources; party colonization of the media necessarily inhibits media freedom. It is further argued that temporal and spatial variations in media freedom in and across Central and Eastern Europe are explained by diff erent patterns of media colonization. Th e more centralized the governing party’s or parties’ decisionmaking structures, the greater the likelihood of one-party colonization, and the more fragmented the governing party’s or parties’ decision-making structures, the lesser the likelihood of such colonization; one-party colonization of the media leads to lower levels of media freedom than multi-party colonization. In other words, the weaker the government, the more freedom the media have.

We perform simulations of time-resolved optical experiments of carrier-capture processes in a quantum wire-dot system. Scattering of charge carriers with optical phonons of the quantum wire can result in transitions from the continuum states of the quantum wire to discrete states of the quantum dot. We treat the scattering of carriers with optical phonons within a Lindblad single-particle approach. By considering the coupling of carriers to a light field we are able to simulate pump-probe experiments which are shown to be capable of measuring the captured populations. We further discuss the influence of the Coulomb interaction on the obtained spectra.

The temperature dependence of dissociative attachment has been investigated in the temperature range 350-575 K for two freon derivatives 1,1,1-C2H3F2Cl and C2F5Cl using Electron Capture Negative Ion Mass Spectra (ECNI MS). The temperature dependence for 1,1,1-C2H3F2Cl is similar to that observed in the case of CF3Cl reported by Illenberger et al. In contrast, C2F5Cl exhibits quite a different spectrum and its temperature behavior. It has been suggested that sigma*C-Cl delocalization onto two empty orbital leads to Cl- ion formation in two different resonance states.

The purpose of this study was to compare hybrid capture assay with PCRs using different primers for the L1, E6-E7 regions for the detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) genome. One hundred twenty-five cervical smears with normal (n = 42) and abnormal (n = 83) cytology were investigated. Those at high-risk for HPV were studied by hybridization antibody capture assay and PCR with the pU-1M/pU-2R primers. Target DNA from the HPV L1 region was amplified by SPF10 primer set and home-PCR with MY09/MY11 primers. The presence of HPV DNA in cervical smears was detected by SPF10 (in 72% of cases), MY09/MY11 (58%), hybrid capture (55%) and pU-1M/pU-2R (39%). Results obtained with the SPF10 and MY09/MY11 consensus primer sets as well as hybrid capture and pU-1M/pU-2R specific for high-risk types differed significantly (χ2, P < 0.0005). The correlation between assays with the use of SPF10 and MY09/MY11 was 86% and between hybrid capture and the pU-1M/pU2R technique - 78%. In 49% of samples HPV DNA was detected by the four methods, whereas in 12% only by the SPF10 primers. The most sensitive technique was found to be PCR with the use of SPF10 primers, while the most specific - the MY09/11 PCR method. It seems that home-PCR with MY09/MY11 primers could be applied in screening tests.

Opis:
A spider web is a device created by a spider out of proteinaceous silk extruded from its spinnerets, primarily to trap its prey. Among spiders, members of orb weavers (Families Araneidae, Nephilidae and Tetragnathidae) are unique for their webs of geometric precision. Web size and design may vary with the prey size, food availability and body dimensions. However, not all body dimensions are equally relevant to web design. Present study was conducted in the Happy Valley Tea Estate Darjeeling, West Bengal in order to affirm the query, does length of body or part/s and weight govern the capture area of spider web. Measures of the web structure were noted using a slide calipers. Equally several individuals of the orb weaving species that were taken into consideration were brought to the laboratory not only to measure the body/leg length under microscope but also for taxonomic evaluation. Present discourse is on the data generated during May – August, 2016. Our study was limited to the webs of Neoscona rumpfi (Thorell) (Araneidae) and Leucauge decorata (Blackwall) (Tetragnathidae). A total of 19 and 21 webs of the respective species were analyzed. Capture areas were calculated following Herberstein and Tso (2000). The result suggests that body length relates positively with the capture area of both the spider webs. However leg length, 4th leg plays a significant role in determining the capture area. Thus the present study once again confirms the fact that the capture area of spiders’ web is largely dependent on the body dimensions. However it is also important to remember that capture area of a particular species depend on dimension of specific body part/parts.
