    The network of social links becomes a form of contestation in modern cities. In the light of that, this article takes a look at informal forms of living (nomadic lifestyle of Romani people, slums, illegal refugee camps), treating them as decentralised, autonomous spaces that function as a variation of a networked community. Self-built architecture ‘glued’ to conventional urban spaces results in ‘pirate utopias’, idiomatic forms of modern urbanisation. Through their ‘quiet transgression of the ordinary’ they challenge the binary division into public and private goods, the importance of order and control of public space, while breaking the frameworks of modernity.

    Background Building law regulations determine designing the built environment recognising the needs of users of different ages and psychophysical abilities. Seniors and their spatial needs are covered there to a limited extent. The benchmark for design are wheelchair users. Their spatial requirements are greater in relation to independent walkers, including most older people. This makes it difficult to adapt the whole built environment to the needs of people with less mobility dysfunction. This can be considered in terms of spatial design and investment costs. Material and Methods The paper analyses the building regulations of 3 countries in terms of legal conditions to shape the architectural movement space of older people and disabled people. Analytical and comparative methods are used. Such research is becoming relevant and necessary. The analyses are conducted in the context of ageing populations. They are justified by statistical data on the age groups of Polish society. This is followed by design analyses of the legal requirements in the wheelchair movement space and proposals for alternatives, e.g., people walking with canes (case study). Their aim is to indicate methods to limit excessive communication spaces in buildings while maintaining functional values for all users. Results Research may show the possibility of greater diversification of regulations and alternatives to current laws. They are dedicated to participants in investment processes to shape accessible buildings. They can also be used in legislative work on amendments to the construction law. Conclusions Changes in building regulations and a detailed approach to the mobility needs of older and disabled people (walking independently) are proposed. These decisions can provide benefits (spatial and economic savings). They fall into the “design for all” trend and sustainability of the built environment. These demands are based on no longer valid normative regulations.

    The analyses of geometric structures in built architecture can show various aspects of the role of geometry for design processes in architecture. The structures can be found in floor plans, facades, ornaments or city structures. We will show some examples which had been selected by students of architecture in an optional course, called “Design Geometry” (“Gestaltungsgeometrie”) in 2017.
    Analizy struktur geometrycznych w architekturze mogą ukazać różne aspekty roli geometrii w procesach projektowych. Struktury te można znaleźć w planach pięter, fasadach, ornamentach lub strukturach miejskich. W artykule pokazano przykłady obiektów architektonicznych, które zostały wybrane przez studentów architektury w ramach opcjonalnego kursu w 2017 roku, zwanego "Geometrią formy architektonicznej" ("Gestaltungsgeometrie"). Odkryto powiązania między różnymi elementami i w ten sposób powstała ogólna podstawa geometryczna dla architektury, której empirycznym źródłem były fascynujące przykłady.

    Drzewo we współczesnej architekturze pełni funkcje użytkowe jako obiekt przyrodniczy pozytywnie oddziałujący na środowisko życia człowieka. Coraz częściej należy też do zestawu środków pomagających spełniać wymagania w zakresie polityki zrównoważonego rozwoju. Jako żywa roślina posiadająca wraz z bryłą korzeniową określone gabaryty i ciężar stanowi także konkretny problem techniczno-budowlany. Jednocześnie drzewo pozostaje figurą pełniącą w architekturze ważne funkcje symboliczne. Suma tych zagadnień powoduje, że drzewo może stanowić swego rodzaju badawczą próbkę pokazującą stan wielorakich związków środowiska zbudowanego ze środowiskiem przyrodniczym, i szerzej – określającą relacje między kulturą a naturą. Wiedzę tę istotnie wzbogaca dyskurs na ten temat prowadzony w obszarze socjologii i estetyki. Pomaga on architektom w zrozumieniu historycznych i współczesnych koncepcji przyrody, które są tworami społecznymi, w znacznym stopniu kształtowanym przez praktykę zamieszkiwania środowiska zbudowanego.
    A tree fulfils utilitarian functions in contemporary architecture as a natural object that has a positive influence on the living environment. More and more frequently it also belongs to a set of measures that help meet requirements in terms of sustainable development policy. As a living plant of a specific size, which has specific requirements with regard to moisture and a considerable weight (both the tree and its root mass), it is also a concrete technical and constructional problem. At the same time, the tree is a figure fulfilling important symbolic functions in architecture. The sum of these issues can cause the tree to be a sort of a research sample indicating the status of multiple relations between the built environment and the natural environment, and in a broader sense – defining relations between culture and nature. This knowledge is considerably enriched by the discourse on the relationship between nature and culture in the field of sociology and aesthetics. It helps architects understand the historical and contemporary concepts of nature, which are social constructs shaped significantly by the practice of inhabiting the built environment.

    Przedmiotem artykułu jest wstępny szkic teorii organizacji środowiska zbudowanego, będącej odpowiedzią na dynamikę procesów urbanizacji w XXI wieku. Podstawowe założenia tej teorii to: 1) temporalność i zmienność elementów habitatu, 2) nieredukowalność środowiska do jego części, 3) powiązanie różnych skal organizacji, 4) równoważenie czynników indywidualnych i kolektywnych, ciągłości i nowości, oraz uwarunkowania i wolności twórczej, 4) udział człowieka jako integralna część opisu systemu. W pracy skorzystano z wcześniejszych koncepcji strukturalistycznych, zwłaszcza teorii J. Habrakena, a także z założeń filozofii procesu A.N. Whiteheada. Rezultatem badań jest zarys procesualnego modelu organizacji środowiska, oparty o autorski zestaw pojęć technicznych, m.in. pole, zdarzenie, potencjał zdarzeń, transformacja, kontrola, wzorzec relacyjny. Elementy modelu tworzą hierarchiczny system, łączący zróżnicowane zagadnienia architektoniczne i urbanistyczne. W konkluzji przedstawiono uwagi na temat roli architekta w procesie organizacji habitatu, wynikające z przyjętych założeń teoretycznych.
    The subject of the paper is a preliminary sketch of the theory of organization of the built environment, as an answer to the dynamics of urbanisation processes in the twenty-first century. The basic assumptions of this theory are: 1) the temporality and variability of habitat elements, 2) the irreducibility of the environment to its part, 3) the linking of different organisation scales, 4) balancing individual and collective factors, continuity and novelty, as well as conditioning and creative freedom; 5) human participation as an integral part of system description. The work uses earlier structuralist concepts, especially theories by J. Habraken, and also the assumptions of process philosophy by A.N. Whitehead. The result of the study is an outline of a processual model of environmental organisation, based on a original set of technical concepts, including the field, the event, event potential, transformation, control and the relational pattern. The model offers a description of the habitat as a hierarchical system synthesising various elements of architectural and urban design. This results in a new perspective of the architect’s role in the organisation process of the habitat.

    Współczesna sytuacja mieszkaniowa w Polsce ulega systematycznej poprawie, czego dowodzą ilościowe dane statystyczne. Jednak często zdarza się, że nowe realizacje odbiegają od standardów jakościowych środowisk mieszkaniowych XXI wieku. Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie autorskiej analizy sytuacji mieszkaniowej w Polsce. Autorzy omówią tematykę w dwóch zagadnieniach badawczych: w sposób krytyczny analizując mechanizmy realizacji współczesnego budownictwa mieszkaniowego (w okresie po 2000 roku) oraz w sposób pozytywny na przykładzie oceny trzech przypadków wysokiej jakości środowisk mieszkaniowych zrealizowanych w Polsce. W pierwszej części badań zostały wykorzystane niereaktywne metody typu desk-research, natomiast w drugiej części badań autorzy zastosowali metodę wizji lokalnej omawianych przykładów, tj.: a) Riverview w Gdańsku, b) Fort Śliwickiego w Warszawie oraz c) Kurkowa 14 we Wrocławiu. Badania doprowadziły do przedstawienia rekomendacji mających na celu poprawę jakości środowisk mieszkaniowych w Polsce.
    Today’s housing conditions in Poland are relatively improving, as proven by numerous quantitative statistical data. However, it often happens that new developments deviate from the quality standards of 21st century housing environments. The aim of the publication is to present the author’s analysis of the housing situation in Poland. The authors will discuss the problematic in two research issues: a critical way analyzing the mechanisms of the realization of today’s housing development (realized after 2000), and a positive way on the example of three case studies of high quality housing environments realized in Poland. In the first part of the research, non-reactive desk-research methods were used, while in the second part of the research, the authors applied a site inspection of the discussed residential environments, i.e.: a) Riverview in Gdańsk, b) Fort Śliwickiego in Warsaw, and c) Kurkowa 14 in Wrocław. The conclusion of the research presented recommendations to improve the quality of residential environments in Poland.

    Prezentowany tekst jest kontynuacją artykułu opublikowanego w Builder Science numer 2/2020 [1]. W materiale zostały opisane przypadki realnego zastosowania środowiska VR w kreowaniu wirtualnych przestrzeni. VR to skrót angielskiego Virtual Reality, w tłumaczeniu na język polski oznaczającego rzeczywistość wirtualną. Termin określa stereoskopową projekcję całkowicie sztucznego środowiska zbudowanego w czasie rzeczywistym, wśród której można się poruszać. Oba artykuły (poprzedni i obecny) są próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy wirtualna rzeczywistość jest nam potrzebna? W pierwszym tekście autorzy zaprezentowali przykłady zastosowania wirtualnej rzeczywistości w branży budowlanej. Przeanalizowano efekty zastosowania tej technologii przez firmy deweloperskie oraz przedsiębiorstwo zajmujące się m.in. dystrybucją smart parkingów. Omówiono także aplikację House Customizer dającą możliwość tworzenia elementów trójwymiarowych w wirtualnej przestrzeni. W niniejszym artykule autorzy przedstawili zastosowanie wirtualnej rzeczywistości na przykładach z branży wyposażenia wnętrz oraz rozrywkowej. Prezentowane projekty różnią się stopniem zaawansowania użytej technologii, a także grupą docelową oraz celem, jaki miał zostać osiągnięty poprzez zastosowanie VR. Omawiane projekty zostały zrealizowane przez firmę Digital Wanderer (http://digitalwanderer.pl/), z którą współpracował jeden z autorów publikacji. Artykuł oparto na badaniach własnych, które przeprowadzono w trakcie współpracy z ww. firmą. W tekście wykorzystano obserwacje własne oraz wywiady przeprowadzone z klientami, inwestorami oraz uczestnikami wydarzeń, podczas których wykorzystano technologię VR.
    The presented text is a continuation of the article published in Builder Science number 2/2020 [1]. The text describes cases of real use of the VR build environment in creating virtual spaces. The abbreviation VR means the term Virtual Reality. This describes the stereoscopic projection of a completely artificial, virtual real-time built environment within which person can not only move but explore. Both articles (previous and present) are an attempt to answer the question: do we need Virtual Reality? In the first text, the authors presented examples of the use of VR in the construction industry. The effects of the use of this technology were analyzed by development companies, as well as by a company dealing, among others, with the distribution of Smart Parking lots. The House Customizer application was also discussed, giving the possibility to create three-dimensional elements in virtual space. In the present article, the authors presented the use of virtual reality on examples from the interior design and entertainment industries. The presented projects differ in the degree of advancement of the technology used, as well as the target group and the goal to be achieved through the use of VR. The projects discussed were carried out by Digital Wanderer studio (http://digitalwanderer.pl/), with which one of the authors of the publication collaborated. The article is based on own research carried out in cooperation with the above-mentioned company. In this text authors use their own observations, interviews with customers, investors and participants of events during which VR technology was used.

    Artykuł jest kontynuacją dwóch tekstów opublikowanych w Builder Science. Autor opisuje tutaj zagadnienie związane z autentycznym wykorzystaniem środowiska AR przy tworzeniu przestrzeni wirtualnych [7]. W dwóch poprzednich artykułach próbowano odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy potrzebujemy wirtualnej rzeczywistości. W pierwszym artykule autor wraz ze współautorką przedstawił przykłady wykorzystania VR w budownictwie. Przeanalizowano również efekt wykorzystania tej technologii przez firmy deweloperskie, firmy związane z dystrybucją inteligentnych parkingów oraz inne przedsiębiorstwa. W tym artykule autor kontynuuje omówione zagadnienia związane z rozszerzoną rzeczywistością na przykładach branżowych. Przedstawione projekty różnią się stopniem zaawansowania zastosowanej technologii, grupą docelową oraz celami, które mają być osiągnięte dzięki zastosowaniu AR. Omawiane projekty zostały zrealizowane przez różne firmy, z którymi autor publikacji miał okazję mieć styczność. Ten artykuł powstał na podstawie własnych badań podczas pracy z zakresu VR i AR. W tekście wykorzystano własne obserwacje i wywiady z klientami, inwestorami oraz użytkownikami końcowymi.
    This article is a continuation of two previous texts published in the „Builder Science". The author describes here the issue related to the use of the AR environment when creating a virtual space. The first two articles attempted to answer following questions: do we need virtual reality? In the first article, the author and the co-author presented examples of the use of VR in construction pipeline. The effects of using this technology by development companies, companies related to the distribution of intelligent parking lots and other companies was also analyzed. In this article, the author continues the discussed issues related to augmented reality with most profound industry examples. The presented projects differ in the degree of advancement of the technology used, the target group and the goals to be achieved through the use of AR. The projects discussed were implemented by various companies with which the author of the publication had the opportunity to come into contact with. This article is based on my own research, while working in the field of VR and AR. The article uses own observations as well as interviews with customers, investors and end users.

    This article attempts to outline the historical background of the development of material culture in the Netherlands until the end of the „Golden Age”, in particular relating to housing. The contemporary Dutch building art enjoyed in Europe general recognition similarly like rustic patterns of Renaissance architecture and Mannerism as well. All this has had a profound influence on the development of the Dutch housing not only during the industrial revolution, but even in the era of the formation of the Modern Movement in architecture.
    W niniejszym artykule starano się nakreślić tło historyczne rozwoju kultury materialnej w Niderlandach do schyłku „Złotego Wieku”, a w szczególności w odniesieniu do mieszkalnictwa. Ówczesna niderlandzka sztuka budowlana cieszyła się w Europie powszechnym uznaniem podobnie jak tamtejsze wzory architektury manierystycznej i renesansowej. Wszystko to wywarło przemożny wpływ na rozwój niderlandzkiego mieszkalnictwa nie tylko w okresie rewolucji przemysłowej lecz nawet w epoce kształtowania się Ruchu Nowoczesnego w architekturze.
