Nakładem Wydawnictwa Muzeum ,,Górnośląski Park Etnograficzny w Chorzowie” ukazała się licząca sto osiemdziesiąt stronic publikacja Doroty Świtały-Trybek zatytułowana: „Dobra rada złota warta”, czyli porady dla śląskiej gospodyni (na materiale z XIX i pierwszej połowy XX wieku). Jest to pokaźny zbiór (liczący ponad 600 tekstów) wskazówek dotyczących głównie prowadzenia gospodarstwa domowego, ale również mówiących o domowych sposobach leczenia różnych dolegliwości czy zabiegach pielęgnacyjnych ciało. Imponujące jest bogactwo źródeł, do których Autorce udało się dotrzeć w wyniku wieloletnich kwerend bibliotecznych i archiwalnych przeprowadzanych na terenie Górnego Śląska. Książka składa się z uwag wprowadzających, sześciu rozdziałów, rzetelnie sporządzonego wykazu źródeł oraz bibliografii. Całość dopełnia interesujący materiał ilustracyjny w postaci 36 rycin. Przygotowana przez opolską badaczkę publikacja spełnia swój cel - stanowi interesującą lekturą pozwalającą przede wszystkim poznać (ale także zrozumieć) wybrane elementy śląskiej codzienności, które do tej pory nie były przedmiotem specjalistycznych badań. Dobra rada... jest wartościową pozycją opartą na rzetelnie zgromadzonym materiale. Jej odbiorcami mogą być nie tylko pracownicy naukowi, ale również nauczyciele historii i wiedzy o regionie oraz poloniści. Z uwagi na wymiar sentymentalny podjętej tematyki książka zapewne zostanie ciepło przyjęta przez seniorów. Z pewnością sięgną po nią i młode kobiety, które w dobie powrotu do natury i troski o zdrowy sposób żywienia swoich rodzin znajdą w niej inspirację.
The publishing house of the Museum "Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów" published a one-hundred-and-eighty-page book by Dorota Świtała-Trybek entitled: "Good Advice is Worth Gold" or Advice for a Silesian Housewife (Based on Sources from the 19th and the First Half of the 20th Century). It is a large collection (over 600 texts) of tips mainly related to running a household, but also about home methods of treating various ailments and body care treatments. The wealth of sources that the author managed to access as a result of many years of library and archival research conducted in Upper Silesia is impressive. The book consists of introductory notes, six chapters, a carefully prepared list of sources and a bibliography. The whole is complemented by interesting illustrative material in the form of 36 pictures. The publication prepared by a researcher from Opole fulfils its purpose; it is an interesting read that allows you to learn (but also understand) selected elements of Silesian everyday life that have not been the subject of specialised research so far. Good advice... is a valuable book based on reliably collected material. It is recommended not only to academics, but also teachers of history and regional knowledge, as well as Polish language teachers. Due to the sentimental dimension of the subject matter, the book will probably be warmly received by seniors. It will certainly be useful to young women who follow the return-to-nature trend and want a healthy diet for themselves and their families. They will find a lot of inspiration in the book.

Departures is the introductory volume to the interdisciplinary field of Critical Refugee Studies, written by the Critical Refugee Studies Collective and published by the University of California Press. The book works on many levels and can be read in as many ways. Partly a guide, partly a manifesto, the book dutifully performs its pre-set task of introducing the general reader to the field of Critical Refugee Studies, all the while engaging with larger issues and challenges. Its manifold nature is made explicit by the title itself, intended both as an allusion to the action of leaving and to that of deviating from a regular path. Highly readable and sharp-edged, tailor-made for an audience that includes (and transcends) colleges and universities, this text will likely find its way into many class syllabi and reading lists. Located at the crossroads of theory and resistance, advocacy and academia, Departures oozes rage, energy, and optimism, and is unapologetically political. The field of Critical Refugee Studies, the authors state in the “Introduction,” is “a way to seize control of image and narrative, by and for refugees, centered in refugee epistemologies and experiences." As a community-engaged critical field, it postulates the necessity of moving past pre-existing humanitarian narratives and frameworks, exposing the underlying threads that tie militarism and migration, power and memory, empire and race. Channeling Somali British and Palestinian poetry, Syrian visual art, and Vietnamese American independent cinematography, the seven contributors call for new methodologies and approaches, as well as for new stories that go beyond the simple “formula of … escape, despair, and rescue” embedded in mainstream refugee narratives. The book's aim is to break that mold, underscoring the “invisible relations of power that broker how we see and consume the refugee subject”; that is to say, to radically twist the ways in which the latter is defined by the law, by the arts, and by the collective conscious. Bold and provocative, Departures will not fail to spark conversations in the coming years.
