    Biosphere Reserves all over the world are areas that are deliberately and purposely kept to promote green economy and most importantly mitigate the effect of Global warming and climate change. The problems of climate change arise from the higher concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which exert a warming effect on the earth. Control of anthropogenic sources and greenhouse gases are constantly discussed and extensively researched in this matter, while the significance of microorganisms remained neglected. Although microorganisms has a contributory effect in global warming as in the case of methanogenes in the rumen of ruminants which has been implicated to increase the environmental methane gases during digestion, the role they play in converting greenhouse gas to useable form in the soil and water hence, reducing global warming cannot be over emphasized. The current review aimed to stress the neglected global importance of microorganisms in climate change. Overall, this review further support the key role biosphere reserves play in protecting soil and plant microorganisms in response to climate change control.

    Artykuł porusza problem strategii budowy bazy danych transgranicznych dla obszaru znajdującego się na wschodniej granicy Unii Europejskiej, charakteryzującego się wysokimi walorami przyrodniczymi, częściowo wykraczającego poza zasięg inicjatyw związanych z tworzeniem ESDI (European Spatial Data Infrastructure). Przedstawiona została specyfika oraz problemy dokumentacji GIS dla celów prowadzenia przyrodniczych badań naukowych na tego typu obszarze. Rozwiązania zagadnienia integracji danych transgranicznych podjęto się przy zastosowaniu techniki opartej na budowie bazy danych GIS przy użyciu: materiałów obrazowych, jako referencyjnych oraz krajobrazowej jednostki przestrzennej, jako obiektu odniesienia dla opisu krajobrazu, integracji i gromadzenia danych oraz pozwalającej na dalsze analizy przyrodnicze. W celu delimitacji takiej jednostki zastosowano podejście obiektowe. W artykule przedstawiono rekomendacje, ograniczenia oraz perspektywy dalszych badań w zakresie omawianej metodyki. Przedstawiono również propozycje dotyczące możliwych kierunków dalszego rozwoju Infrastruktury Danych Przestrzennych w kierunku opisu przestrzeni przyrodniczej.
    The article presents a strategy for creating a transboundary database for the region on the eastern border of the European Union, partially exceeding European initiatives regarding the establishment of ESDI (European Spatial Data Infrastructure). The motivation for the research was the environmental value of the existing areas, and their role in joining five countries: Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine. These territories are currently covered by the Man and Biosphere UNESCO Programme, which is performing some initiatives in this region regarding environment and local communities. The first is the international project “Establishment of a Transboundary Biosphere Reserve and a Regional Ecological Network in Polesie”. Geoinformation technologies are one of most important methods involved in all project objectives and are used for documentation and analysis purposes. From the GIS point of view, the project has a broad extent because of these characteristics: small scale result maps, multisource, multiscale and different quality source data integration, necessity of using the universal documentation and analysis technology and the need for comparability of research results. Full integration of data available for this area has been impossible to achieve. For this reason, it was proposed using remote sensing data as reference and application of object based automatic techniques for feature detection, as the main tool for mapping the environment. The article describes the main problems of transboundary research using GIS methods and proposes solutions in the following fields: (i) data integration for landscape mapping purposes; (ii) delimitation of the spatial base unit. Results of research showed the adequacy and usefulness of the proposed methodology. The article also presents limitations of the discussed approach and propositions regarding further research in this field. Finally, some propositions for further development of SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) in the representation of environmental objects is discussed.

    Na podstawie przeprowadzonej w różnych środowiskach społeczno-zawodowych ankiety potrzeb użytkownika wykazano, że istniejące w Polsce systemy informacji przestrzennej w niepełny sposób spełniają potrzeby ich potencjalnych użytkowników. Stwierdzo-no, że przede wszystkim problem ten dotyczy takich grup zastosowań GIS jak: ogólna informacja środowiskowa, badania naukowe, edukacja przyrodnicza, turystyka. W związku z tym, na podstawie sformułowanych w ankiecie potrzeb użytkownika, zaproponowano stworzenie zintegrowanego systemu informacji geograficznej dla powierzchniowych form ochrony przyrody. Zakłada się, że początkowo struktura systemu będzie oparta o sieć Rezerwatów Biosfery, po czym powinna ona zostać rozszerzona o inne formy ochrony przyrody.
    The poll, which was carried out in different public and professional communities, proved insufficient response of the GIS about the protected areas regarding the needs of the potential users. It was found out that this problem concerns first of all the following applications of GIS: general environmental information, scientific research, nature education, tourism. Following the needs formulated by the users, creation of integrated geographical information system for the protected areas was proposed. At the beginning the base of the GIS structure will be the Biosphere Reserves Network, and afterwards the other protected areas should be included into it.
