Opis:
The paper, in the introduction to the above preliminary project description, refers to the UN Agenda 21 (1992) and the Lisbon Initiative (2000) – delineating the situation in Europe and Poland. The growing competition between the main European cities, engaged in massive strengthening their public image through environmental investments and development programmes, which constitutes also a direct challenge to Gdynia. The above situation, the cities’ continuous energy growth consumption as well as the biosphere pollution – requires holistic approaches to the urban and architectural solutions of the area in the SKOK’s possession. In view of the above, the concept proposes the creation of a new centre for Redłowo quarter. A new ‘Gdynia Saloon’ with an extraordinary environment. The new centrum proposes an innovative development through the introduction of new city-creative functions – based on an environmental appraisal of the area, applied environmental psychology – use of the latest technologies from the cutting edge. A new organisation of ‘green’ open and enclosed as well as immaterial spaces – effectively pixel architecture. New urban Saloon concept consists of a dominant SKOK headquarters, accompanied by + 5*lux hotel, a vertical ‘urban village’, a new type of international shopping – Ecomarket 2V and a multifunctional hall/the world’s first virtual theatre, embracing the proposed Franciszek Stefczyk plaza. The above intelligent buildings – with the developed new trends for the headquarter office (incl. photosynthesis, iodisation), hotel, ‘vertical village’, shopping and theatre – will aim to generate adequate energy for the centre with ‘0’ gas emissions, thus striving to achieve the self-sustaining development. The application of the BIM method will lead to the considerable buildings construction and usage savings, as well as to the higher quality of the development. This holistic approach consists of the integration of science, technology and art, will lead not only to the SKOK’s greater success but will also strengthen the city’s public image, thus fulfilling Gdynia’s development strategy. This will also serve as a paradigm for the Polish/ EU cities.

Opis:
The present manuscript presents the view point of the author for providing a course on environmental history for chemistry students and secondary school pupils. Special attention is paid on the societal developments in the twentieth century when the anthropogenic impacts on the environment have become especially deep and devastating. The course of lectures is focused on the environmental changes in each environmental phase (lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere) as well as in the society as a whole. The process of environmental changes is illustrated by various examples from each natural system in consideration and the anthropogenic factor for each one of them is defined and discussed. The presented material is an example for organization of an environmental history course of lecture which could be subject of additional information and conclusions related to the social attitude to the problem of environmental pollution and environmental risk assessment.
