Opis:
This paper presents a comprehensive literature survey of the potential applications of bionic achievements related to both design and manufacturing of machine elements with required functional properties. The motivation is that any machine tool or manufacturing process designed even by experienced engineers are not as excellent as the functional behaviour of plants, animals or processes occurring in natural surroundings, i.e, which have been created by nature in the evolution process. Special attention is paid to producing lightweight parts for machine tools and aerospace and automotive applications. The main aspects of design methodology, mathematical modelling, experimental testing and manufacturing are taken into account.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę danych literaturowych kierunkowaną na ocenę możliwości zastosowania osiągnięć bioniki w projektowaniu i wytwarzaniu elementów maszyn o specjalnych właściwościach.

Opis:
Modern design methods rely increasingly on understanding the nature of processes and principles of self-organization of biological structures and their representation using mathematical models that may apply in technology, including architecture. As a result, bionic design elements play a more meaningful role in shaping contemporary architecture and urban planning. The development of computer technology has made it possible to create more complex and complicated structures and surfaces inspired by natural forms. The inspiration for the discretization of the surface, using the Voronoi diagram, as seen in the honeycomb structure or the dragonfly wing, is increasingly applied in shaping the elevation of contemporary buildings. As a mathematical problem, the division of space fascinates scientists as well as architects. Consequently, architects use the spatial Voronoi cells also in shaping the structural forms. Today Voronoi diagrams are an important source of inspiration for architects and urban planners as a surface discretization method and a way of creating structural elements or spatial forms and as flooring patterns in urban projects. The use of mathematical models represent the structure and organization of the forms found in nature, which is increasingly used in the multidisciplinary architectural design. The design of the structures and elements both in architecture and urban planning using methods of computational geometry makes new opportunities for architectural and urban projects as seen by the Voronoi tessellation.

Opis:
Bionics has been widely used in many fields. Previous studies on the application of bionics in locomotives and vehicles mainly focused on shape optimisation of high-speed trains, but the research on bionic shape design in the electric locomotive field is rare. This study investigated a design method for streamlined electric locomotives according to the principles of bionics. The crocodiles were chosen as the bionic object because of their powerful and streamlined head shape. Firstly, geometric characteristic lines were extracted from the head of a crocodile by analysing the head features. Secondly, according to the actual size requirements of the electric locomotive head, a free-hand sketch of the bionic electric locomotive head was completed by adjusting the position and scale of the geometric characteristic lines. Finally, the non-uniform rational B-splines method was used to establish a 3D digital model of the crocodile bionic electric locomotive, and the main and auxiliary control lines were created. To verify the drag reduction effect of the crocodile bionic electric locomotive, numerical simulations of aerodynamic drag were performed for the crocodile bionic and bluff body electric locomotives at different speeds in open air by using the CFD software, ANSYS FLUENT16.0. The geometric models of crocodile bionic and bluff body electric locomotives were both marshalled with three cars, namely, locomotive + middle car + locomotive, and the size of the two geometric models was uniform. Dimensions and grids of the flow field were defined. And then, according to the principle of motion relativity, boundary conditions of flow field were defined. The results indicated that the crocodile bionic electric locomotive demonstrated a good aerodynamic performance. At the six sampling speeds in the range of 40–240 km/h, the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the crocodile bionic electric locomotive decreased by 7.7% on the average compared with that of the bluff body electric locomotive.

Opis:
The constant development of all areas of human life forces the continuity of an awareness limited to individual selected issue, but also imposes searches in broader fields of science. The same phenomenon also did not miss the architectural design. Dynamism of changes and participation, among others, mathematics, computer sciences or biology design entered confusion and false perception of the definition of the new methods of design. The main goal of the article is to organize the principles that govern parametric, generative, evolutionary, bionic or organic design. The basis for distinguishing between these issues is to define the objectives of the initial formation of a solid object. Evolution of changes in modern design techniques is also a great record of the history of human conscious creation of an architectural form.

Opis:
Enhancing image brightness under low light conditions is crucial. The traditional night vision technology depends on the development of photoelectric materials and accurate image processing algorithms. Inspired by the structure of elephant-nose fish, we construct a bionic image intensifier (BII) model. The BII is a planar array based on the concentrating principle of the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). This solution is based on pure optical design and independent. Through light tracing, the simulation results show that the brightness of the image is improved and good image uniformity is obtained. Quantitative analysis of the geometric concentration ratio (GCR) and the image uniformity is used to optimize CPC structure parameters. At the same time, we also discuss the influence of CPC structural parameters on image continuity, uniformity and geometric concentration ratio. The optimization results are as follows: the input port diameter is 50 μm, the output port diameter is 10 μm, the height is 90 μm, the GCR is 5.61, and the image uniformity is 95.30%. The comprehensive performance of the BII achieves the best.
