Opis:
Present-day walking robots can increasingly successfully execute locomotive as well as manipulative functions, which leads to their expansion into more and more applications. This article presents the design of a hexa-quad bimorph walking robot with the ability to move at a relatively high speed in difficult terrain. It also has manipulation capabilities both at a standstill and in motion. This feature of the robot is made possible by the ability to easily change the configuration from six-legged to four-legged by elevating the front segment of its body. Presented prototype will be used in further research to develop the hexa-quad bimorph walking robot.

Opis:
In the present work an example of the numerical modeling of electro-mechanical coupling of the activator in the form of cantilever beam made of two layers PVDF subjected to an inverse polarity is described. Calculations were done for static deflections at the selected voltage levels and for modal analysis with an included and excluded piezoelectric effect. The effect of active material on the behavior of the beam was examined. In order to validate the model, results of the static calculation were compared with the strict analytical solution and the results presented by other authors.

Opis:
In this work, one evaluates the electrical power generated by an airless tire equipped with piezoelectric bimorphs on both lateral surfaces of the radially distributed lamellar spokes. Such sheet-like spokes are hinged both toward the wheel drum at the inner annular band, and toward the wheel tread at the outer annular band. Since the hinged spokes are able to transmit tension forces but unable to transmit compression forces, bending and buckling of the spokes occur in the region of contact between the tire and the road. Models for the rolling friction of the airless tire, for the bending and buckling deformation of the spokes, and for the electrical power generated by the airless tire are suggested. Variation of the curvature radii and bending deformations for the spokes in the region of contact with the road are illustrated for various values of the rolling friction coefficient and spoke length. Then, variation of the generated electrical power versus the length of contact is obtained for various travel speeds of the vehicle. One observes that the generated electrical power increases at augmentation of the rolling friction coefficient, spoke length and travel speed. Although the obtained electrical power for the proposed harvesting system is relatively modest, it is not depending on the road roughness, i.e. harvesting becomes possible even on smooth roads, such as highway surfaces.

Opis:
In the present era, the renewable sources of energy, e.g., piezoelectric materials are in great demand. They play a vital role in the field of micro-electromechanical systems, e.g., sensors and actuators. The cantilever-based piezoelectric energy harvesters are very popular because of their high performance and utilization. In this research-work, an energy harvester model based on a cantilever beam with bimorph PZT-5A, having a substrate layer of structural steel, was presented. The proposed energy scavenging system, designed in COMSOL Multiphysics, was applied to analyze the electrical output as a function of excitation frequencies, load resistances and accelerations. Analytical modeling was employed to measure the output voltage and power under pre-defined conditions of acceleration and load resistance. Experimentation was also performed to determine the relationship between independent and output parameters. Energy harvester is capable of producing the maximum power of 1.16 mW at a resonant frequency of 71 Hz under 1g acceleration, having load resistance of 12 kΩ. It was observed that acceleration and output power are directly proportional to each other. Moreover, the investigation conveys that the experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical results. The maximum error obtained between the experimental and numerical investigation was found to equal 4.3%.
