    Artykuł przedstawia relacje Biblii i teologii w średniowieczu, zwłaszcza w kontekście dorobku egzegetycznego szkoły św. Wiktora i św. Tomasza z Akwinu. Zrozumienie technik interpretacyjnych Pisma Świętego, roli analizy i syntezy, podziałów tekstu, parafraz czy cytatów intrabiblijnych ukazują rolę teologii w jej relacji do Pisma: pomaga wydobyć i zbudować spójną ekspozycję wiary, przyczyniając się do głębszego rozumienia prawdy. Jednocześnie Pismo Święte stanowi źródło dla średniowiecznej teologii, będąc z nią organicznie związane.
    The article presents the relations of the Bible and theology in the Middle Ages, especially in the context of the exegetical achievements of the School of St. Viktor and Saint Thomas Aquinas. Understanding the interpretation techniques of the Holy Scriptures, the role of analysis and synthesis, text divisions, paraphrases or intrabiblical quotes demonstrate the role of theology in its relationship to the Scriptures: it helps to bring out and build a coherent exposition of faith, contributing to a deeper understanding of the truth. At the same time, the Scripture is a source for medieval theology, being organically connected with it.

    Tomasz z Akwinu kojarzony przede wszystkim jako filozof i teolog, w swoich czasach znany był przede wszystkim jako magister in Sacra Pagina, który swoją teologiczną refleksję budował, interpretując poszczególne księgi Biblii. Aby zrozumieć myśl Akwinaty zawartą w jego syntezach trzeba zatem koniecznie powrócić do jego biblijnych komentarzy, które ukazują drogę dochodzenia do tez teologicznych. Tym bardziej jest to konieczne, podejmując tematykę, dla której sam Tomasz nie pozostawił osobnej syntezy, ale rozmieścił ją w różnych miejscach swojej bogatej bibliografii, a do której należy zagadnienie eklezjologii. W komentarzu do sceny cudownego połowu opisanego w J 21, 1–14 Tomasz zawarł swoisty wykład swojej myśli eklezjologicznej. Wierny rozwijanej przez siebie teorii czterech sensów biblijnych wydobywa z tekstu bogactwo teologicznej treści, jaką Bóg zamierzył przekazać człowiekowi odnośnie do Kościoła. W ten sposób Tomasz ukazuje Kościół w jego drodze do Boga, gdzie na wiecznej uczcie osiągnie swoją pełnię. Tak odczytana rzeczywistość Kościoła znajduje swoje ukierunkowanie eschatologiczne.
    A recognised philosopher and theologian and known in his time as the magister in Sacra Pagina, Thomas Aquinas builds his theological reflections by interpreting individual books of the Bible. In order to understand Aquinas’ thought contained in his syntheses, it is necessary to return to his biblical commentaries, which show the way to reach theological theses. It is all the more necessary when taking up the subject for which Thomas Aquinas leaves no separate synthesis but places it in various places in his rich bibliography, and in which the problem of ecclesiology is included. In the commentary to the miraculous catch of fish scene described in John 21, 1–14, St. Thomas gives a unique lecture on his ecclesiological thought. Faithful to the theory of the four biblical meanings he develops, he extracts from the text the wealth of theological content regarding the Church, intended by God to give to man. In such a manner, St. Thomas shows the Church on his way towards God, where he will reach his fullness on the eternal feast. The reality of the Church read in this way thus finds its eschatological orientation.

    W artykule zaakcentowano współistnienie teologii biblijnej i teologii systematycznej w twórczości Tomasza z Akwinu; w tym celu skorzystano z badań tomizmu biblijnego. Następnie ukazano, w jaki sposób Biblia wiąże się ze spekulacją teologiczną w początkowych kwestiach Sumy teologicznej, w których autor charakteryzuje sacra doctrina. Kolejno przedstawiono modus operandi Akwinaty w dyskusji z adwersarzami nieuznającymi autorytetu Pisma Świętego oraz jego apologię autorytetu sacra Scriptura. Dalej zademonstrowano przykładową polemikę z chrześcijanami prowadzoną w oparciu o teksty natchnione. W zakończeniu zebrano wnioski dotyczące miejsca i funkcji Pisma Świętego w argumentacji Tomasza, które zależą po pierwsze od adresatów dzieł Tomasza, a po drugie od rodzajów wypowiedzi Doktora Anielskiego.
    This paper emphasises the coexistence of biblical theology and systematic theology in the works of Thomas Aquinas. For this purpose, it draws on the study of biblical Thomism. It then shows how the Bible is linked to theological speculation in the opening questions of the Theological Summa, in which the author characterises the sacra doctrina. Aquinas’s modus operandi in his discussion with adversaries who do not recognise the authority of Scripture, as well as his apology for the authority of sacra Scriptura, is then presented. A sample polemic with Christians conducted on the basis of inspired texts is demonstrated further on. The paper closes with conclusions regarding the place and function of Scripture in Thomas’s argumentation, which depend firstly on the addressees of Thomas’s works and secondly on the types of statements made by the Angelic Doctor.

    Opis:
    Theological heritage of Thomas Aquinas isn’t based merely on systematical considerations of Christian doctrine, but also on many biblical commentaries. The biblical proclamation, which was subjected to proper medieval hermeneutic, is primary inspiration and necessary element of Thomas’ theology in all their branches, including likewise ecclesiology. Based on the text of commentary on Epistle to Ephesians in this paper is presented an outline of Aquinas’ theology of the Church. Due to analysis of crucial theological notions like: unity, Mystical Body of Christ, house, city-state, it is revealed an image of ecclesial community, which Thomas Aquinas draws from St. Paul’s exhortation and features as part of theological consideration. In this approach the unity of Christian represents ontological aspect, that means the way of community’s existence and goal of this existence, which isn’t an ultimate aim for the members but source to it. The unity is this an element in Aquinas ecclesiology, which binds all images of Church with themselves. Through the organic bound of peace in relationships and spiritual bound of faith the ecclesial community comprises the Mystical Body of Christ. The members in Mystical Body are united by the power of Head, namely Christ’s grace in the actual or possible way and different levels of personal union. The soul of Mystical Body is Holy Spirit, who fills up members by spiritual gifts, virtues and charisms coming from Christ and showing in concrete fellows, with concrete dispositions and abilities. So, if the Church exists in these christened people also express its second human nature, which has social and political aspects represented by visions of house (as family) and city-state. These ecclesiological perspectives, which also pay attention to particular aspects of Christ’s community, isn’t merely interesting, but up-to-date too and important for deeper understanding of Thomas Aquinas theological thoughts.
