The Church’s teaching on marriage, especially on its indissolubility, is highly contested even by many Catholics themselves. The indissolubility is frequently considered without connection to the biblical anthropology. The subject of the study are Jesus’ statements on this issue examined in their immediate context of the Gospel narration and in their relationship to the first chapters of the Bible. God brings to perfection His work with the creation of man and woman in His own image and likeness because in marriage they should transmit His blessing to their children and to the earth subdued to them. The last part of the paper considers the meanings of the Greek word porneia in Jesus’ teaching according to Matthew.

Artykuł ma na celu ukazać, iż z pomocą interpretacji antropologicznej istnieje możliwość lepszego zrozumienia przekazu następujących fragmentów Nowego Testamentu: Łk 10, 10-11, Łk 21, 20-21 oraz Ap 18,4. Symboliczna egzegeza powyższych wersów daje pewne wskazówki dotyczące postawy chrześcijańskiej w trzech okolicznościach. Pierwsze dotyczą masowego indyferentyzmu religijnego, a drugie odrzucenia prawdy chrześcijańskiej. Trzecia trudna sytuacja wynika z rosnącego rozdźwięku między współczesną kulturą a chrześcijaństwem, kiedy to dominującą rolę zdobywają treści całkowicie sprzeczne z chrześcijaństwem.

I present here the proposal of elaboration of Wyspiański’s biblical stories in his entire output, which can be found in his collected works. This study is concordance index. Article consists of three parts. In the first place I discuss previously published index of a similar nature. Then I present my own solutions. At the end I put some examples.

The author formulates the topic in a synthetical way, elaborating on it in three parts: Hebrew Bible, deuterocanonical books and message of the New Testament. The fake dilemma (gerontocracy or gerontophobia) is overcome in the light of Revelation: Bible presents the wisdom as a source of truth and goodness, and as a solidarity with the elderly, because only the truth can set people free (J 8, 23). The truth revealed in Christ can also overcome the modern forms of discrimination in the world.

W Biblii wymieniono wiele gatunków roślin i ich produktów. Obok tych, tak koniecznych do życia duże znaczenie odgrywały też rośliny dostarczające olejków eterycznych, środków higieny, specyfików służących do sprawowania kultu, czy też mumifikacji zwłok [Moldenke, Moldenke 1952; Zohary 1982; Hepper 1992; Maillat, Maillat at 1999], Aloes i mirrę stosowano przy obrzędzie pochówku, nakładając je między lniane płótna, którymi owijano zmarłych. Ilość tych specyfików zależała od dostojeństwa i bogactwa zmarłego. Olej święty przygotowywany był wyłącznie do celów kultu, a dokładną jego recepturę można odnaleźć na kartach Biblii w Księdze Wyjścia (30, 22-33). Cztery składniki: mirra, cynamon, wonna trzcina i kasja połączone były oliwą. W ogrodach botanicznych zgromadzonych jest wiele gatunków roślin z różnych stron świata i tam najłatwiej można wyodrębnić kolekcję roślin biblijnych. Tak jest w Ogrodzie Botanicznym w Hamburgu, gdzie prezentowane są wszystkie omówione w niniejszej publikacji gatunki. Celem tworzenia kolekcji roślin biblijnych jest przybliżenie mało znanych, współczesnemu człowiekowi roślin, które miały ogromne znaczenie w starożytności oraz spopularyzować treści Pisma Świętego. Tabela 1 przedstawia występowanie omówionych w publikacji gatunków roślin w badanych trzynastu ogrodach biblijnych. Najliczniej reprezentowane są gatunki aloesów i cynamonowców. Gatunki te występują w ośmiu obiektach. W sześciu ogrodach uprawia się balsamowce, a w czterech różne gatunki palczatek. Tylko w trzech rośnie tatarak.
A lot of plant species and their products which were components of the diet of Near East societies are mentioned in the Bible. Apart from plants essential for living, the species that provided oils, fragrances, hygienic materials, specifics for cult purposes and mummification played also a major role. Although these products were often very expensive because they were brought from far away places, the need for them continuously grew. Aloes and myrrh were used during the funeral ceremony by putting them between linens in which the deceased were wrapped. The amount of these specifics depended on the social status and wealth of the dead person. Holy ointment was prepared only with the aim of being used for cult purposes, and the Scripture contains its precise recipe in Exodus (30, 22-23). Four ingredients: myrrh, cinnamon, aromatic cane and cassia were mixed with oil of olives. The identification of plant species mentioned in the Bible is not easy and was a subject of scientific research since the 18th century. The author of the presented work considered all current concepts that describe most credibly the list of biblical plants. In a wide variety of plants found in botanical gardens, there are many biblical species and, therefore, it is easy to create a biblical collection. In this way people will have a chance to get familiar not only with the Scripture but also with rare plants that were of a great importance in the past. The occurrence of plants from 13 surveyed gardens that were described in this publication is presented in table 1. Species secreting gum resin and oils used for making ointments for embalmment or for producing oil ointment are represented by Aloe and Cinnamonum. They are present in eight botanical institutions. In six biblical gardens Commiphora is cultivated, whereas Cymbopogon only in four and Acorns in three.

The article in a concise way presents phenomenon of exorcism in the context of Ancient Mesopotamia, in the Hebrew Bible, and in the ministry of Jesus as described in the synoptic Gospels. In the first part it suggests that the Ancient Near East constitutes an important point of reference in the reflections concerning the practices of exorcism in the Bible. It is exactly against the background of Ancient Near East that the Hebrew Bible reveals its uniqueness. The context of exorcistic practices of the Ancient World emphasizes the guardedness of the redactors of the Hebrew Bible in regard to the exorcism and to the combat with the evil spirits. The examples of intertestamental literature, mentioned only cursorily in this article, allows the reader to discover theological context of Jesus’s exorcistic activity. At the same time, the Gospels reveal the uniqueness of ministry of Jesus-Galilean Exorcist.

This article discusses selected examples of English and Polish translations of the myth of the creation of man in Genesis 2, 18–23. Its purpose is to present various translations of the Hebrew text resulting from the polysemic character of the Hebrew terms adam and ezer kenegedo and how they may lead to different versions of the Christian anthropology and male-female relationships. The article presents the feminist interpretations of Genesis 2, 18–23 as well as its two different contemporary Polish Catholic translations resulting in two different versions of the Christian anthropology. In the conclusions, the author points to the role of translation as a factor inevitably modifying (warping) the original text.

Artykuł jest poświęcony biblijnemu pojęciu przymierza, które w żydowskiej tradycji, w tym także tradycji politycznej, zajmuje miejsce szczególne. O ile przymierze z Noem ustanowiło prawo naturalne, obowiązujące wszystko stworzenie, o tyle przymierze na Górze Synaj było bezpośrednią relacją pomiędzy Bogiem a Izraelitami i dało początek ich istnieniu jako społeczności politycznej. Mówiąc o przymierzu w tradycji żydowskiej, mamy więc na myśli przede wszystkim przymierze Mojżeszowe, zwane także Wielkim Przymierzem. Wraz z nim zaczyna się historia Żydów, ono określa żydowski sposób życia i myślenia, także w odniesieniu do sfery politycznej. Należy podkreślić, że akceptowane dziś powszechnie w świecie zachodnim polityczne pojęcia suwerenności ludu, republikanizmu, federalizmu, podziału władzy są świeckim pokłosiem biblijnej idei przymierza, która zakorzeniła się w filozofii politycznej Zachodu za sprawą tradycji żydowskiej. Polityczny wymiar tradycji żydowskiej znalazł należne jej miejsce w literaturze naukowej głównie za sprawą Daniela Judah Elazara (1934 – 1999), wybitnego znawcy federalizmu i tradycji żydowskiej.
This article describes the biblical notion of covenant (berith). The term covenant in the Jewish tradition has a strong theological, as well as a political dimension. The covenant motif is central to the biblical world view, the basis of all relationships, the mechanism for defining and allocating authority, and the foundation of the biblical political teaching. Sinai Covenant has been the basis for all legitimate Jewish political organization from antiquity to the present. Jewish political institutions and behavior reflect this covenantal base in the way that they give expression to the political relationship as a partnership based upon a morally grounded pact and, like all partnerships, oriented toward decision and policy-making through negotiation and bargaining. Wherever the possibility has existed, Jews have organized their political institutions on a federal basis (berith - Latin: foedus from federal). A covenanted community is republican in the original sense of res publica, a public thing, rather than the private preserve of any person or institution. In the Bible, the Jewish republic is referred to as the edah, from the term for assembly - in other words, a body politically based on the general assembly of its citizens for decision -making purposes. The covenant idea has within it the seeds of modern constitutionalism, in which it emphasizes the mutually accepted limitations on the power of all parties to it, a limitation not inherent in nature but involving willed concession. This idea of limiting power is of the first importance in the biblical worldview and for humanity as a whole since it helps explain why an omnipotent God does not exercise His omnipotence in the affairs of humans. The political compacts of the philosophers of the seventeenth and eighteenth century have been inspired by the biblical covenant, except that it was secular in character. The political dimension of the Jewish tradition has found its rightful place in the scientific literature thanks to Daniel Judah Elazar (1934 – 1999), eminent expert on federalism and the Jewish tradition.

Zasada przekładu według Hieronima w teorii i praktyce Hieronim ze Strydonu (347-419), jeden z czterech wielkich Ojcόw KościołaZachodniego, przeszedł do historii jako tłumacz Biblii. Jego zainteresowanie PismemŚwiętym, oczytanie w dziełach wczesnych pisarzy chrześcijańskich oraz znajomość językagreckiego i hebrajskiego sprawiły, że był uważany przez wspόłczesnych za eksperta wdziedzinie egzegezy biblijnej. Dzięki korespondencji z papieżem Damazym zrodziła się idearewizji wielu istniejących, rόżniących się od siebie przekładόw Ewangelii na podstawietekstόw źrόdłowych. Wkrόtce jednak rozpoznano konieczność rozszerzenia prac rewizyjnychrόwnież na księgi Starego Testamentu, ktόre Hieronim postanowił tłumaczyć, opierając się natekstach hebrajskich, a nie jak dotychczas na LXX. Innowacyjność tego przedsięwzięcianapotkała na krytykę i sprzeciw w wielu kręgach kościelnych. Obawiano się ogromnegowpływu, jaki Hieronim mόgł wywrzeć na kształt Biblii dzięki swojemu nowemu przekładowiopierającemu się na oryginalnych tekstach źrόdłowych i zachowującemu sens przekazywanejzbawczej treści a nie zachowującemu jej dosłownego brzmienia, co byłoby rόwnoznaczne zdetronizacją Septuaginty.

Messiah, Savior of mankind. The story of Israel is a description of the dramatic struggles of the whole people as well as of each person individually to strengthen and preserve their relationship with God. Through the history of the patriarchs, through the time of Egyptian captivity, through wanderings in the desert, the Bible reveals the process of crystallizing Israel’s self-consciousness as a nation, the foundation of which is the belief in the One God revealed at the Mount Sinai. Then, through the history of the Judges and the beginning of the Monarchy, Scripture shows us the deeper fall of Israel and in opposition to this men of God who, at all costs, want to save their people from perdition.

The article treats of the previously unknown correspondence of the writer, stored in the Library in Kórnik, Ossolineum or in the private collections. Letters are addressed to his wife, the clergy, the blind children from Laski, to writers from the country and abroad and they provide interesting pieces of information concerning life and work of the writer. Materials sent from Jerusalem at the request of the author of the article are a valuable complement to the whole. The texts confirm the great writer's fascination with religious themes, especially his love for the Bible, which is the „book of life”.

Materiały nadesłane z Jerozolimy na prośbę autorki artykułu stanowią cenne uzupełnienie całości. Teksty potwierdzają ogromną fascynację pisarza tematyką religijną, a zwłaszcza umiłowaniem Biblii, która jest „księgą życia”.

Analysis of lexical changes (including: particles, diminutives, colloquial and German words) have to give an answer to a few questions: was Piotr Poznańczyk an editor of The Sirach from 1561? Which was the direction of the textual modifi cation? Perhaps, in the future, this article will by also helpful to fi nd an editor (or editors) of The Leopolits Bible.

Przekonani o tej bogatej ofercie tekstów biblijnych zaczęliśmy poszukiwać inspiracji, jakich Biblia może dostarczyć przedstawicielom nauk o wychowaniu.WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Świadomi tego, że Biblia nie jest klasycznym podręcznikiem pedagogicznym, a zatem nie może udzielać jednoznacznych odpowiedzi na stawiane przez tę dyscyplinę pytania, doszliśmy do wniosku, że poza przekazem treści religijnych znajdziemy w niej wiele inspiracji dla pedagogicznego myślenia i działania. W pracy zostały przytoczone fragmenty z Biblii Tysiąclecia, w których pojawia się jedno z trzech wyrażeń nazywających dystynktywność: wyróżniać, odróżniać i rozróżniać. Na ich podstawie bada się, czy ich użycie jest zgodne z ich definicjami (autorstwa piszącego te słowa), jak również wobec jakiego odniesieniu przedmiotowego są one używane. Tym samym bada się rozumienie dystynktywności w Biblii – zarówno ze strony jej autorów pierwotnych, jak i (w przypadku Biblii Tysiąclecia) tłumaczy na język polski.
This article concerns those parts of the Millenium Bible (Biblia Tysiąclecia) in which one of three terms referring to distinctiveness are used. The terms are wyróżniać (to single out), odróżniać (to distinguish) and rozróżniać (to differentiate). They are examined in order to ascertain whether their usage is in accordance with both their definitions (by this author) as well as the specific references with which they are used. At the same time the understanding of distinctiveness in the Bible, both in terms of the original and (in the case of the Millenium Bible) its translation into Polish.

This material presents the person of Fr. Kolbe as an untypical kind of preacher. This Franciscan was not a speaker but rather used the written word before all else. His pulpit was the monthly magazine “Rycerz Niepokalanej” published by him. Through it he aimed to deepen the religious knowledge of the average reader. He reached a million faithful through this means. His publications activity was inspired by the mission given by Christ: Go and teach all nations – and essentially was the effect of an authentic pastoral care of the people entrusted to him in the big “world parish”. His figure has become for these times a sign for pastoral activity in the Church today, the time of religious ignorance of the faithful, as well as for the increasing laical and anticlerical mentality. Kolbian preaching, its model and form plus direction for catechism, presents itself as evangelization by the Church about God in the Holy Trinity and work of love. Also it shows about the Church itself as community for salvation, and the human condition infected by sin. At the same time, it is of an apolegetic character. This should become obligatory for preaching since always more so in society Christianity once more is accused of the “foolishness of the Cross” and “foolishness of the Word” (compare 1Cor1:18–21), and thus save humanity in its restless existence.

The article present the famous canons of Eusebius transmitted in medival version of the Bible of Plock (Poland). The Author hopes that publication of it will help scholars to develope a comparative studies between different manuscripts of medival Europe in order to conclude if there were one or more its versions in Middle Ages. Canons in so called “Bible of Plock” are slightly different from the version we can find in the internet (www.tertulian.org/fathers/eusebius_canon_ tables_01.html) but these differences are caused rather by a copist’s errors and don’t prove at all that in medival Poland or Europe there were in use a different canon versions. We need further comparative studies in this aerea and only afther these there will be possible to draw final conclusions.

Starting from the considerations on the complex notions of the original text, the article speaks of some antecedents of the textual criticism practiced in antiquity. The quest for the original text of the Old Testament began more than two thousand years ago. A summary of the previous critical editions of the Hebrew Bible places the ongoing project of the Biblia Hebraica Quinta (BHQ) in its historical and methodological context. The experience of the author in his work on 2 Kgs illustrates the importance of BHQ for historians and Biblical scholars, as well as its possible consequences for hermeneutics and theology.

The standard interpretation of the biblical idea of the image of the God in Genesis (Gen 1:26 ff.), so called ontic interpretation, which sees in Him a religious basis for the metaphysical dogma of the creation of a man as a spiritual-corporeal being, is detached from its biblical meaning. For the biblical authors, the primary issue is not the question what kind of the human being was called by the God from nothingness into being, but that when the human being receives the status of the image and character of the God in the existential dimension. John the Baptist reached the status of the image of God at the time when he became the Anthropos (John 1:6). In turn, Paul, by the moving of the idea of the image of Jesus as a man at the turning point of the process of salvation (Romans 8:29), created the foundation for the study of triple-imaging of the God as in Jesus, as well as in initiated.

The two examples of conservation of the sixteenth- century books printed tin Cracow's old printing works notorious of the high quality of their products have been presented by the author. The first of books, widely known as the so-called Leopolite’s Bible printed at the Szarffenbergers and constituting one of the most outstanding monuments of ancient printing art in Cracow was, in 1883, subjected to restoration by Władysław Wenda then an employee of the Old Records Archive, Warsaw who concentrated his efforts on reconstruction of the missing text parts and on restoration of the partly damaged woodcut illustrations. His work can be regarded as one of the most typical for the nineteenth-century approaches in restoring of old books. Though lacking suitable experience, which the lack found its reflection in quality of conservation carried out, Wenda — it should be emphasized — tried to restore its original forms to the defective copy. So, for instance, the missing frontispiece was replaced by him with a copy prepared by the use of homeographic technique invented in 1857 by Adam Piliński. Also the facsimile reproductions of the four text pages have been added by him. It deservaes to be stressed that Wenda being fully conscious of importance which his description of treatments carried out might have for the future researchers had bound it together with the original text. Hence, the above description can be treated ias one of the first conservator’s documentations.

The Aramaic Bible is a large-scale academic project to translate the Aramaic targums to the Pentateuch (gr. πεντάτευχος) into Polish. The originator and initiator of this undertaking is the head of the Biblical Sciences Section of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Father Prof. Miroslaw Stanislaw Wróbel together with the academic staff of the section. The first part of the project will cover three Aramaic targums to the Pentateuch of the Hebrew Bible – Targum Neofiti 1 (1–5), Targum Pseudo-Jonatanus (6–10) and Targum Onkelos (11–15). A total of 15 volumes will be published, plus one introductory volume on targumic topics.

Tematem tekstu są odniesienia astronomiczne w Psałterzu Dawidowym Jana Kochanowskiego, zaliczającym się do dzieł poety najbogatszych w tego typu nawiązania. Koncentrują się one wokół budowy wszechświata, najważniejszych ciał niebieskich: Słońca i Księżyca (w dalszej kolejności też gwiazd) oraz ich ruchu po niebie, wyznaczanego przez nie kosmicznego ładu i pochwały harmonijnego dzieła Stworzenia oraz jego Autora. W tekście omówiono kilka wybranych motywów związanych z tematyką astronomiczną w Psałterzu. Zaliczają się do nich wschody i zachody słońca powiązane z porami dnia i porządkiem czasu, obraz kręgu ziemskiego, przeciwstawienie Bóg na wysokościach–ziemia na dole, zestawienia głównych obiektów astronomicznych: Słońca i Księżyca. Wybrane motywy astronomiczne w Psałterzu Kochanowskiego odniesiono do dwóch szesnastowiecznych tłumaczeń Księgi Psalmów, które można uznać za najważniejsze dla dwóch głównych stronnictw uczestniczących w sporach o teksty święte: protestancką Biblię brzeską i katolicką Biblię Jakuba Wujka. Nie ma to na celu szukania bezpośrednich zależności (w przypadku przekładu katolickiego, późniejszego niż zbiór Kochanowskiego, niemożliwych), ale skonfrontowanie dzieła poetyckiego z koncepcjami czytania i przekładania Biblii wykreowanymi przez twórców przekładów konfesyjnych.
In the text, the astronomical references in Jan Kochanowski’ Psałterz Dawidowy are discussed. This text is one of the richest of these motifs poet’s works. The celestial themes focus on the structure of the universe, the most important celestial bodies: the Sun and the Moon (followed by stars) and their movement in the sky, the cosmic order and praise of the harmonious creation of the Creation and its Author. The text discusses selected motifs related to astronomical themes in the Psalter: sunrise and sunset, linked to the order of time, the image of the earth’s circle, the opposition God in the heights – earth below, a pair of the most important astronomical objects: the Sun and the Moon. Selected astronomical motifs in Kochanowski’s Psalter are compared to two sixteenth-century translations of the Book of Psalms, which can be considered the most important for the two main circles involved in disputes over holy texts: the Protestant Brest Bible and the Jakub Wujek’s Catholic Bible. The article is not to seek direct dependencies (in the case of Catholic translation, later than the Kochanowski collection, they are impossible), but to confront the poetic work with the concepts of reading and translating the Bible created in the confessional translations.

Taking up ecological issues, Francis makes an “urgent appeal” to engage in dialogue on the ways of building the future of the planet and proposes an “integral ecology”. The origins of ecology understood in this way are to be found in the Bible. Created in the image and likeness of God, man receives the task of prudently ruling over the world, which he should respect and care for. An expression of this care is the celebration of the sabbatical year during which man, animals, the earth, gardens and vineyards rest.

Marriage is very deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture, both in the Old and New Testaments. Over the centuries, the Church’s tradition has developed a Bible-based doctrine concerning marriage and the family. The provisions of Church councils and the expression of various popes have specified this teaching. It should also be emphasized that Catholic marriage is a sacrament in which God gives the newlyweds a special grace to pursue their vocation. The purpose of this article is to present the biblical foundations of marriage and the sacrament’s roots in the teachings of the Church.
Małżeństwo ma swoje bardzo mocne zakorzenienie w Piśmie Świętym zarówno Starego, jak i Nowego Testamentu. Na przestrzeni wieków Tradycja Kościoła wypracowała naukę opartą na Biblii dotyczącą małżeństwa i rodziny. Postanowienia soborów oraz wypowiedzi poszczególnych papieży konkretyzowały to nauczanie. Podkreślić należy również to, że małżeństwo katolickie jest sakramentem, w którym Pan Bóg udziela nowożeńcom szczególnej łaski do realizowania swego powołania. Celem niniejszego artykułu będzie ukazanie biblijnych podstaw małżeństwa oraz jego zakorzenienia w nauce Kościoła.

Portraits of Judyta in Rafał Leszczyński’s and Wacław Potocki’s poems The article deals with the peraenetic representations of Judyta with particular emphasis on how she was portrayed in the epic poems of Rafał Leszczyński (1620) and Wacław Potocki (circa 1952). The author analyzes the differences of portrayal of the biblical widow in Guillaume du Bartas’ La Judit and the Polish paraphrasing of said text by Rafał Leszczyński (Iudith). Those differences were influenced not only by political, but also by moral and social factors. The best example and proof of that is the shortened and modest (as compared to the original) description of Judyta’s beauty found in Leszczyński’s text. Tłumaczenie Biblii dokonane przez Marcina Lutra odbiło się wielkim echem w świecie protestanckim w XVI w., ale nie tylko. Miało duże znaczenie dla kształtowania się języka narodowego i narodowej literatury w Niemczech. Sprowokowało też dyskusję wewnątrz Kościoła katolickiego, która sprawiła, że zaczęły się pojawiać również katolickie przekłady Pisma Świętego na języki narodowe. Pierwszym polskim tłumaczeniem całym Biblii jest to, którego dokonał Jan Nicz Leopolita. Zostało ono wydane w Krakowie, w oficynie Szarffenbergów w 1561 r. Niniejsze opracowanie jest formą prezentacji czterech szesnastowiecznych egzemplarzy Biblii Lutra i dwóch egzemplarzy Biblii Leopolity, które przechowywane są w zasobie Biblioteki Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego Metropolii Warmińskiej „Hosianum” w Olsztynie. Autorzy z autopsji przebadali morfologię omawianych woluminów, ich znaki własnościowe oraz budowę i zdobienia opraw. Księgi te stanowią cenny fragment zabytkowych zbiorów na Warmii.
Martin Luther's translation of the Bible reverberated throughout the Protestant world in the sixteenth century, but not only. It was important for the formation of a national language and national literature in Germany. It also provoked a discussion within the Catholic Church, which led to the appearance of Catholic translations of the Bible into national languages. The first Polish translation of the entire Bible is the one made by Jan Nicz Leopolita. It was published in Cracow, in the Szarffenberg's printing house in 1561. This study is a presentation of four sixteenth-century copies of the Luther Bible and two copies of the Leopolita Bible, which are kept in the collection of the Library of the Warmia Metropolitan Seminary “Hosianum” in Olsztyn. The authors have examined the morphology of the volumes in question, their ownership marks and the construction and decoration of the bindings. These books constitute a valuable part of historical collections in Warmia.

The concept of holiness is one of the key theological issues. Semantically the term “holiness” focuses on God, the only absolutely Holy, who lives and works in the Church, and is also the source of the holiness of the Church. Visible reflection of the holiness of the Church on earth are the countless saints – people who are called by God to be holy, and with the proper spiritual life, had grown up in perfection and become able to accept the special sanctification by the Holy Spirit. But God is calling to be holy not only those who have tasted holiness – which formally announced to the world bythe church in an act of canonization – but all Christians. The term “holy” is used by Bible not only in reference to God, but also to the people, places and things, sanctified bycontact with God, exalted by him, dedicated to the service of God. The article deals on the holiness of the human in the Old and New Testaments only. The New Testament repeats call to be holy directed by God to man in the Old Testament (cf. 1 Peter 1:15). But at the same time God calls the human to be perfect (Mathew 5:48). The source of human holiness in the New Testament is Jesus Christ, who received it from God the Father. The New Testament sacrifice of Jesus Christ replaced the Old Testament sacrifice rendered by archpriest. This sacrifice is the source of human sanctification and forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 10:14). Christ sacrifice has opened the way for every man to God, and this path is not limited neither by time nor by space. The New Testament reveals the concept of human holiness much wider and deeper than the Old Testament did. On the pages of Gospels and Epistles of the Apostles there are shown the human patterns that make up the definition of holiness.Then they are repeated and explained in the Church by Holy Fathers mainly. It is thanks to the action of the Holy Trinityevery Christian can be saint. It is thanks to the adoption by the Son of God the human nature, members of the Church are given the possibility to recover the original nature of the man, soiled by sin, to transform it by the grace of God. Following Jesus Christ, participating in His Divinity and by His grace Christians became saints.

The article is focused on morphological analysis of two Slavonic Gospels: the first complete printed edition of the Church Slavonic Bible (1581) and the18th century altar Gospel, which is kept in Orthodoxmonastery in Jabłeczna (south–east Poland). The comparison of these two texts on linguistic level permits to ascertain, that over three hundred years morphological features nouns and verbs have changed. The main aim of these changes was to eliminate a homonymy which hindered text perception and caused many misunderstandings. In order to improve the biblical text, proofreaders replaced soft endings with hard endings. Did they achieve their aim? Only the Church Slavonic Bible readers can answer this question.

The purpose of this paper is to present the promising fi elds in homiletics and in pastoralpraxis of preaching where interdenominational cooperation is possible. This includes the fi elds of real collaboration among preachers of diff erent ecclesial communities, but also the reminder that ecumenical preaching and true pastoral care cannot be based on resignation or declining of one’s own confessional identity. What is common for Christian denominations are the martyrs – the witnesses of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Another common heritage of all Christian denominations is the Bible as a Source of Preaching. Some of the denominations share the lectionary as a gift and challenge. But it is not the Bible, which is being preached but Jesus Christ as the Lord. Besides Christocentrism in preaching, the language of preaching is important, which should be a language of dialogue and goodwill, not one of division, dominance, hate, or confrontation.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie obiecujących badań w homiletyce oraz w praktyce przepowiadania, gdzie możliwa jest współpraca między wyznawcami Chrystusa należącymi do różnych wyznań. Obejmuje to pola prawdziwej współpracy między kaznodziejami różnych wspólnot kościelnych, ale także przypomnienie, że ekumeniczne nauczanie i prawdziwa duszpasterska opieka nie mogą opierać się na rezygnacji lub zaprzeczaniu własnej tożsamości konfesjonalnej. Tym, co wspólne dla chrześcijańskich wyznań, są męczennicy - świadkowie Dobrej Nowiny Jezusa Chrystusa. Innym wspólnym dziedzictwem wszystkich wyznań chrześcijańskich jest Biblia jako źródło przepowiadania i nauczania. Niektóre z denominacji chrześcijańskich korzystają ze wspólnego lub analogicznego lekcjonarza z czytaniami liturgicznymi. Głoszony jest jednak Jezus Chrystus jako Pan, a nie Biblia. Oprócz chrystocentrycznej treści ważny jest języka przepowiadania, który powinien być językiem dialogu, dobrej woli, a nie dystansu, dominacji, nienawiści lub konfrontacji.

The starting point of the article is to explain the reasons why Megiddowas one of the most important Canaanite cities in the northern Palestine,as well as the presentation of scientific proposals explaining the etymologyand meaning of its name. In this context, considerations regarding the Biblenarration associated with Megiddo and references to it contained in extra--biblical sources are included. The second part of the article presents anoutline of the history of archaeological research in Tel Megiddo, which isthe starting point for presenting the history of biblical Megiddo in the lightof the results of these studies. The article presents various, often contradictory,views of researchers on the history of Megiddo based primarily onthe analysis of archaeological data, from the Neolithic, through the Early,Middle and Late Bronze Ages to the Iron Age.
