    The European Union is currently facing a serious problem concerning the occurrence of significant health inequalities observed between particular member states as well as within these states. Substantial efforts are being made to achieve an economic and social cohesion and the reduction of health inequalities between the EU regions is an important element of this process. This work is devoted to the study of the variations of health status (measured by life expectancy) across the EU regions of NUTS II level. We apply existing tools developed in economic growth literature to study a mortality convergence. Using the idea of unconditional convergence model developed for economic growth, we can confirm a decrease or increase of regional health inequalities. The main research hypothesis is as follows: whether regions with lower initial life expectancies have experienced the largest increases in life expectancies. To verify the hypothesis of beta-convergence we use spatial econometric models which additionally allow to take the geographic dependence among the surveyed regions into consideration. Due to the heterogeneity of the surveyed spatial units we also verify the hypothesis of the club beta-convergence.

    W opracowaniu podjęto interesującą poznawczo problematykę konwergencji gospodarczej. Wyznaczono cel i określono tezę. Zdefiniowano pojęcie konwergencji gospodarczej i zaznaczono jej związek z polityką spójności. Następnie omówiono dwie metody jej badania: konwergencję typu beta oraz sigma. Przeprowadzono analizę empiryczną w zakresie poziomu PKB per capita na poziomie regionalnym NUTS2 w wybranych grupach krajów. Dodatkowo przedstawiono rozbieżności w poziomie PKB per capita w ramach wybranych krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Całość opracowania zakończono podsumowaniem.
    In the study problems of economic convergence was taken. The goal and the thesis was determined. The concept of economic convergence was defined, and its relationship with cohesion policy was underlined. Further, two methods of research were discussed: beta- and sigma-convergence. Empirical analysis in terms of GDP per capita at regional level NUTS 2 in selected groups of countries was conducted. In addition, the differences in the level of GDP per capita in selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe was presented. The whole study was completed by a summary.

    W Europie nasila się proces starzenia się ludności. Celem badania omawianego w artykule jest próba oceny tego zjawiska w krajach Unii Europejskiej z wykorzystaniem podstawowych współczynników demograficznych oraz jego przebiegu w Polsce na tle UE. Wartości współczynników obliczono na podstawie danych za lata 2010 i 2016–2019 pochodzących z bazy Eurostatu. Ocenę analogii w procesie starzenia się ludności krajów UE przeprowadzono za pomocą modelu konwergencji beta, wyznaczonego w odniesieniu do każdego z badanych wskaźników starzenia się populacji 28 krajów UE. Wyniki obliczeń wskazują na konwergencję w analizowanym okresie – w krajach, które charakteryzowały się niższymi wartościami danego wskaźnika na początku okresu badawczego, nastąpił większy wzrost wartości tej miary niż w krajach, dla których wyjściowe wartości danego wskaźnika były wyższe. Obserwacja ta pozwala wysnuć wniosek, że różnice pomiędzy krajami UE dotyczące starzenia się ludności maleją.
    The aging process of European populations is intensifying. The aim of the article is to assess this phenomenon in EU member states using basic demographic coefficients and to answer the question of how the Polish population is aging compared to the EU. The values of the coefficients were calculated on the basis of data obtained from the Eurostat database and cover the years 2010 and 2016–2019. The assessment of the analogy of the aging process between the populations of EU countries was based on the beta convergence model, determined for each of the analysed population aging indicators of the 28 EU member states. The results of the calculations show a convergence in the analysed period: countries where at the beginning of the research period the values of a given indicator were lower demonstrated a greater increase of this measure than countries for which the initial values of the given indicator were higher. This observation leads to the conclusion that the differences between EU countries in terms of the aging of the populations is decreasing.

    Research background: Many contemporary empirical studies and also most of economic growth theories recognize the importance of innovation and knowledge for achieving an economic growth. A large part of empirical literature has treated the issue of beta convergence without the spatial aspect, i.e. the possible spatial dependence among regions or states in growth process was neglected. Purpose of the article: In this paper, we investigate the link between selected R&D (Research and Development) indicators as proxies for the regional innovation and knowledge and economic performance of the region. We also assume a significant role of regional R&D spillovers in the regional growth process determination. Methods: The main methodological basis for our analysis is beta convergence approach and the dataset under the consideration consists of 245 NUTS 2 (Nomenclature of Units for Territorial Statistics) EU (European Union) regions during the 2003–2014 period. Our analysis is made with respect to spatial interactions across the EU regions. Findings & Value added: The influence of R&D indicators on the economic growth has been confirmed, and spatial interconnection across the EU regions have been proven. Potential existence of geographical R&D spillovers across the EU regions was examined by formulation of additional beta convergence model with spatial lag variables. We have identified that the influence of R&D spillovers is not strictly restricted to the neighbouring regions, but they spread across a larger area. For the construction of spatial lags of R&D indicators different spatial weight matrices were considered.

    Celem pracy jest analiza nierówności wewnątrzregionalnych w województwie wielkopolskim. Nierówności te badane są w oparciu o analizę zmian społeczno-gospodarczych w małych miastach województwa wielkopolskiego w trzech przekrojach czasowych w 1992, 2000 i 2008 r. Jest to kontynuacja badań przedstawionych w pracy Koneckiej-Szydłowskiej, Haukego (2011).Wskaźniki zastosowane w analizie uwzględniają różne aspekty badanego zjawiska i odnoszą się do następujących zagadnień: sytuacji ludnościowej, infrastruktury technicznej i mieszkalnictwa oraz gospodarki.Wanalizie wykorzystano techniki eksploracyjne oparte na modelach regresyjnych zbudowanych i oszacowanych dla badanych wskaźników w trzech powyższych przekrojach czasowych oraz dla różnic między rokiem 2000 a 1992 i między rokiem 2008 a 2000. Modele te konstruowane i interpretowane były w podobny sposób jak w analizie konwergencji. Interpretacja ich jest rozszerzeniem idei konwergencji zwyczajowo analizowanej dla PKB.
    The aim of the study is to analyze the intra-inequality in the province. Wielkopolski. These inequalities are examined in the analysis of socio-economic changes in the small towns in the province of Wielkopolska in three time spots: 1992, 2000 and 2008. This is a continuation of the research of Konecka-Szydłowska, Hauke (2011). The indicators used in the analysis take into account various aspects of the phenomenon studied and refer to the following issues: population, technical infrastructure, housing and the economy. The study used exploratory techniques based on regression models which are constructed and estimated for the indicators examined in the above three sections of time and for differences between 2000 and 1992 and between 2008 and 2000. These models were constructed and interpreted in a similar manner as in the analysis of convergence. Interpretation is an extension of the idea of convergence usually analyzed GDP.

    W artykule została dokonana analiza konwergencji beta krajów ugrupowania UE10 i UE15 dla okresu 2004 i 2015 na czterech poziomach – państwa, NUTS 1, NUTS 2 i NUTS 3. Najsilniejsza konwergencja beta jest na poziomie państw ugrupowania UE10 jednak im niższy jest poziom jednostek regionalnych tym słabsza jest konwergencja beta. Na poziomie NUTS 3 Polski, Słowenii i Węgier stwierdzono dywergencję, co oznacza istnienie procesów konwergencji i dywergencji.
    The article analyzes the beta‑convergence of the EU–10 countries and the EU–15 for 2004 and 2015 at four levels – the state, NUTS 1, NUTS 2 and NUTS 3. The strongest beta‑convergence is at the level of the EU–10 countries; however, the lower the level of the regional unit, the weaker the beta‑convergence. At the NUTS 3 level in Poland, Slovenia and Hungary, divergence was found, which means there are convergence and divergence processes.

    Głównymi czynnikami przyczyniającymi się do konwergencji w obszarze finansowym i inwestycyjnym polsko-ukraińskiego regionu transgranicznego w obecnych warunkach integracji europejskiej są intensyfikacja transgranicznych procesów inwestycyjnych w sektorach bankowym i ubezpieczeniowym, zwiększenie efektywności wykorzystania środków finansowych przeznaczonych na programy pomocy technicznej UE, jak również rozpoczęcie wspólnych transgranicznych działań instytucji finansowych. Głównym kierunkiem konwergencji społecznej i gospodarczej w ukraińsko-polskim regionie transgranicznym w ciągu ostatniej dekady była konwergencja produktu regionalnego brutto per capita.
    The main factors contributing to the convergence in the financial and investment area of the Polish-Ukrainian cross-border region in the current conditions of European integration are the intensification of cross-border investment processes in the banking and insurance sectors, increasing the efficiency of the use of funds allocated to EU technical assistance programs, as well as the launch of joint cross-border activities of financial institutions. The main direction of social and economic convergence in the Ukrainian-Polish cross-border region over the last decade was the convergence of gross regional product per capita.

    In this work, we construct the sequence spaces $f(Q(r,s,t,u))$, $f_0(Q(r,s,t,u))$ and $f_s(Q(r,s,t,u))$, where $Q(r,s,t,u)$ is quadruple band matrix which generalizes the matrices $Δ^{3}$, $B(r,s,t)$, $Δ^{2}$, $B(r,s)$ and $Δ$, where $Δ^{3}$, $B(r,s,t)$, $Δ^{2}$, $B(r,s)$ and $Δ$ are called third order difference, triple band, second order difference, double band and difference matrix, respectively. Also, we prove that these spaces are BK-spaces and are linearly isomorphic to the sequence spaces $f$, $f_0$ and $f_s$, respectively. Moreover, we give the Schauder basis and $β$-, $γ$-duals of those spaces. Lastly, we characterize some matrix classes related to those spaces.
