Opis:
The location and most interesting geological features of the outcrop of the Menilite Beds in Kobielnik village were described in the text. However, the main subject is the problem of determining the structural position in the absence of typical indicators of the bed 's top and bottom. The proposed solution is based on the observation of clastic dykes and their structural relationship to the surrounding layers. In addition, some sedimentary structures and natural bitumen's seepages were described.

Opis:
In the paper, functions describing different porosity-tortuosity relations were collected, and then the tortuosity values were calculated for a one granular bed consisting of spherical particles with normal distribution of diameters. Information about the bed porosity and particle sizes was obtained from measurements conducted for an artificial granular bed, consisting of glass marbles. The results of calculations were compared with the results of two other methods of tortuosity determination, performed for the same case (details are not described in this paper): the first of them uses the Path Tracking Method, the second one - information about the velocity components in a creeping flow (the Lattice-Boltzmann Method was applied to obtain the velocity field in the flow). The main aim of our article was to test whether the functions linking tortuosity with porosity, which are available in the literature, give similar results as the methods described above. To achieve this aim, the relative errors between results of calculations for the collected formulas and values from the both previous mentioned methods were calculated.

Opis:
In this paper the geological conditions of American unconventional oil fields has been described. Similarities and differences of geology of four formations (Bakken, Eagle Ford, Avalon & Bone Springs and Monterey) have been contraposed to Krosno Beds. Stratigraphy, lithology, petrophysical parameters and mineral composition have been compared. It has been shown, that there is some similarity of geological background of Monterey Formation and Krosno Beds, what may indicate the possibility of oil production after adaptation of American technologies to Polish conditions.

Opis:
Themicropalaeontology of the "Raibl Beds" of the Košuta Nappe in the western KaravankeMts., Slovenia, is described. The presence of the conodont apparatus of Nicoraella? budaensis Kozur and Mock is demonstrated and together with other fossils it confirms a Carnian age. A comparison of the Nicoraella skeletal apparatus with two other Triassic apparatuses is made. The benthic foraminifera Aulotortus sinuosus, A. tumidus, Prorakusia salaji, Pilamminella kuthani and Endothyra kuepperi are recognized. Their stratigraphical range corresponds to the foraminiferal Pilamminella kuthani Interval-Zone. Altogether the palaeontological content of an 85 m-thick section in the upper part of the "Raibl Beds" below Mt. Jepca is described. The diverse fossil content of this section contributes to the intercalibration of Upper Triassic conodont, foraminifer and dasyclad zonations.

Opis:
The study is focused on the taxonomic inventory of an intriguing bivalve fauna from the Lower Oligocene Menilite Beds (Dynów Marls) within the Silesian Nappe, Polish Outer Carpathians. Sixteen bivalve species have been identified within the material collected in two small quarries in Jabłonica Polska near Krosno. Stratigraphic and geographic distributions of all recognized species are considered. This assemblage, the first of this kind in Poland and one of three recognized in the Outer Carpathians, shows clear affinities to coeval typical Solenovian faunas from Ukraine to Kazakhstan, with particular comparison made to bivalve faunas from the Menilite Formation (Subchert Member) within the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe, Ukrainian Outer Carpathians. Moreover, this study presents an overview of the main aspects and definitions of the date of the Paratethys origin. The main criterion used to define the time of the Paratethys birth is the distinct faunal turnover from the moderately diverse boreal or Tethyan bivalve faunas populating particular basins of the Northern Peri-Tethys in the earliest Oligocene to the uniform, highly endemic fauna inhabiting the newly formed semi-closed basin. This vast inland sea, named Paratethys, was populated by representatives of eight euryhaline bivalve families. They are characterized by extinct Paratethyan genera, such as Bessia Kojumdgieva et Sapungieva, Merklinicardium Popov, Korobkoviella Merklin, Urbnisia Goncharova, Ergenica G. Popov and Janschinella Merklin.

Opis:
The lithological characteristics and age analysis of the variegated Farony Shale are presented for the first time. The Farony Shale occurs in the Lubomierz and Rabka areas in the Bystrica Subunit. It is located within medium- and thin-bedded sandy dominated turbidites of the Campanian–Paleocene Ropianka Formation. It is comprised of red shales laminated or interlayered with strongly bioturbated green shales. Exposures of the Farony Shale are observed along a distance of ~25 km, in the form of a narrow belt. The age of the variegated deposits is estimated based on agglutinated foraminifera to late Campanian–earliest Maastrichtian. Their deposition was associated with low-energy conditions and a temporary limitation of the supply of sandy material to the inner part of the Magura Basin.

Opis:
This paper discusses a new approach to analyzing fluid flow through a granular bed. The analysis involves the determination of a set of geometric parameters characterizing a granular bed based on information about the location and diameter of all bed particles. The above task has been achieved with the use of the PathFinder numeric code developed by the authors. The study proposes a new algorithm for calculating the parameters of granular beds composed of spherical particles with various diameters in the PathFinder program. The algorithm has been verified with the use of independent tools and implemented in the new version of the PathFinder code. The modified algorithm’s effect on flow path tortuosity has been analyzed. Path length is used to determine tortuosity, a key parameter of pore geometry that is difficult to calculate. Comparative calculations were performed in a granular bed generated by the Discrete Element Method in the PFC3D program.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a fractal analysis of the cross-sections of a porous mineral deposit consisting of spherical elements which formed a spatial system with varying porosity (0.4 to 0.95). The virtual deposit was generated using the Discrete Element Method in the YADE code by means of the so-called Radius Expansion Method. The fractal analysis was carried out using the structure function method, determining the fractal dimension (D), the topothesy (L) and the corner frequency (l) (MAINSAH et al. 2001). The conducted simulations have confirmed to a considerable extent the test results available in the literature involving the fractal analysis of mineral deposits with varying porosity. They clearly indicate that the fractal dimension does not change along with the porosity of the deposit, if the autocorrelation function or their transformations (e.g. structure function) methods are used. Moreover, based on the information available in the literature, it can be concluded that the value of the fractal dimension corresponds to mineral deposits with the specified geometric shapes of the elements which form them.

At present, the sludge drying beds of the Kyiv wastewater treatment plants are operated as a sludge accumulator in an emergency mode, practically without free volume. The purpose of the work was to determine the equation for the evaporation losses calculation from sludge drying beds and the required free volume for sludge accumulation for the next 7 years. The required free volume was calculated using the water budget method which takes into account evaporation from the water surface and evapotranspiration during the vegetation. The total losses from sludge drying beds is 1076 mm/year in normal year and is 920 mm/year in a cold year. The required free volume was calculated considering the trend of increasing average temperature over the last decade and considering the significant environmental risk. A correction was made for one unfavourable year with cold summer and warm winter and an additional rain rate of 1% probability. The additional free volume required is 3.24 million m3 for 7 years if all three sludge drying beds are operated.

Opis:
The Oligocene flysch sequence from the Hulskie section in the Polish Outer Carpathians was palaeomagnetically examined. The flysch complex containing the Jasło and Zagórze limestone horizons revealed palaeomagnetic properties sufficient for a magnetostratigraphy to be established. The correlation of the local to the global magnetic polarity scale indicates that the Jasło limestone was deposited very close to the Rupelian and Chattian boundary i.e. ca. 28.4 Ma. In the same way, the age of the Zagórze limestone was defined as close to ca. 27.6 Ma. The entire450 mof studied section was formed between ca. 29 and 26.5 Ma. It implies an average sedimentary ratio of about 18 cm per thousand years. The palaeomagnetic directions from the Hulskie section do not display the Fisher type distribution and do not fit the reversal test and therefore cannot be used for any regional tectonic reconstruction.
