The Khotyn victory in 1673 became an inspiration for many poets. It inspired such well-known artists as Wacław Potocki and Zbigniew Morsztyn, as well as secondary artists like Daniel Kałaj, Mateusz Kuligowski and Samuel Leszczyński. From among many creative writings about the battle of Khotyn there is one that outstands due to its length and detailed presentation. It is a work of future Lithuanian referendary Stefan Jan Ślizień: Haracz krwią turecką Turkom wypłacony first published in Vilnius in 1674. In the introductory poem Do czytelnika łaskawego, the poet adopts the attitude of the real events‘ relator who makes descriptions from the eyewitness’ perspective. Thus, he puts the poem into the circle of poetics of the native heroicum.Ślizień – who participated in the Khotyn battle – describes battle events in a meticulous way, bringing the recipient closer to the realities. On the pages of the poem, the poet expressively represented the figure of the commander-in-chief – hetman Jan Sobieski, whom he characterized according to the epic principle fortitudo et sapientia.  In addition, as a soldier from Lithuania, albeit fighting along with the Crown troops, he did not forget about the merits of Lithuania on the battlefield: he praises the equipment and courage of the Lithuanian army and appreciates the attitude of the great Lithuanian hetmans, Michał Pac and Michał Radziwiłł, thus showing attachment to the native land.

W artykule przeanalizowano w-brane parametry bojowe czołgów będących w wyposażeniu Wojska Polskiego typu T-72, PT-91 oraz LEOPARD 2A4 i 2A5 w porównaniu do kilku wybranych konstrukcji światowych. Oceniono także możliwości modernizacji posiadanego sprzętu pancernego w zakresie opancerzenia i zdolności rażenia przeciwnika.
Some combat characteristics of tanks T-72, PT-91, and LEOPARD 2A4 and 2A5 used by the Polish Army are studied in the paper and compared with selected world designs. Moreover the upgrading possibilities of used armour-clad equipment regarding armour systems and enemy attacking capacities are evaluated.

The paper concerns the circumstances of the establishment of the Museum of the Battle of Legnica in the village of Legnickie Pole in Lower Silesia. The most important figures who contributed to organizing the the museum and its subsequent functioning are discussed. Furthermore, the article is an attempt to depict the museum in a broader context of the tradition of commemorating the Battle of Legnica in non-museum forms – such tradition was rarely taken into consideration so far. The museum, opened in 1961, should be regarded not only as an institution popularizing the knowledge about a historical event or as a manifestation of vitality of cultural memory, shaped through the ages – it was also an element of historical narrative of the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) period.

W artykule, na bazie przeglądu literaturowego, przedstawiono analizę rozwoju opancerzenia czołgów na przestrzeni ostatnich 100 lat w aspekcie rozwoju technologii obronnych oraz w świetle zagrożeń konfliktami asymetrycznymi jak i pełnoskalowym konfliktami zbrojnymi. Przeanalizowano wybrane konstrukcje czołgów występujących na uzbrojeniu, na podstawie których oceniono zdolności obronne czołgów w zakresie opancerzenia i jego odporności na penetracje amunicją kinetyczną.
The article presents development of battle tanks armours during the last 100 years on the base of literature review considering aspects of the advancement in defence technologies and the threats of asymmetric and full scale military conflicts. Selected designs of tanks which were in the service were studied to assess defence capacities of tank armour systems and their resistance against penetration by kinetic ammunition.

Despite having conducted a series of structural and organizational amendments enhancing combat capabilities of a battalion, a sub-unit of such kind still remains not fully independent. Therefore, in order to extend battalion effective capabilities formation of battalion tactical battle groups on its basis seems to be indispensable in the future. Notwithstanding a number of assets, this solution entails substantial requirements, which have been articulated throughout the content of this paper.

The authors of the article present the idea of the maintenance of aircrafts’ battle damages. The aim of the paper is to discuss the issue of the field maintenance of aircrafts. The process of evaluating damages and recommendations regarding verification of airframe structure elements and its equipment damaged by an enemy’s impact has been addressed. The paper demonstrates the changes in dealing with the issue of battle damages of aircrafts, which have occurred over the period of several decades. The new challenges faced by personnel servicing the modern aviation constructions in a contemporary battlefield have been subjected to the evaluation. Concepts regarding the new maintenance methods of an airframe construction of military aircrafts have been outlined.

The paper presents the expedient/battle damage repair of weapon system preliminary concept for The Polish Armed Forces which should be introduced in order to fulfil NATO standardization agreements. The proposed concept was drawn up on the basis of allied doctrines and regulations as well as on the study of expedient/battle damage repair systems which occur in other NATO armies. The preliminary proposition includes the functional concept of the abovementioned system at central level.
W artykule przedstawiono wstępną koncepcję systemu napraw doraźnych sprzętu wojskowego w SZ RP. System taki powinien zostać wdrożony, aby wypełnić porozumienia standaryzacyjne wypracowane w ramach NATO. Przedstawiona koncepcja została wypracowana na bazie analizy sojuszniczych doktryn i regulacji NATO, a także przestudiowana systemów napraw doraźnych, które funkcjonują w innych armiach NATO. Wstępna koncepcja obejmuje funkcjonalny wymiar opisywanego systemu na szczeblu centralnym.

Niniejszy artykuł to pierwsza publikacja oryginalnej wersji tekstu, którego rosyjski przekład w ubiegłym roku ukazał się w miesięczniku „Kraj Smolenskij” (М. Bauer, Osvieszczenie Smolenskoj vojny 1632–1634 godov v polskich dnevnikach. Struktury relacij i narrativnyje pierspektivy, „Kraj smolenskij. Nauczno-populiarnyj zurnal”, 2013 nr 10, s. 16–20)
Paper discusses three diaries written during the war of 1632–1634 between Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Russia, in which a tzar’s army attempted to retake the Smolensk fortress that was lost 21 years earlier. First of them was conducted by unknown member of king’s Vladislav IV Vasa chancellery, the second is an epistolary diary by Jan Moskorzowski, the secretary and officer of Lithuanian high commander Krzysztof Radziwiłł whose official post-war statement to the Commonwealth’s Seym is the third. Confrontation of these three relations from the same events is an occasion to compare its literary aspects.

Among combat vehicles high values have tracked combat vehicles. They are the most universal means of combat, both in offensive and in defense actions. About the usefulness of tanks decide the main battle features, which will include fire power, protection and mobility. The fire power is a feature that describes the quantity, quality and efficiency in terms of the main weapons system. Mobility of tanks reflects the dynamics of motion and manoeuvr ability. On the mobility a large impact has: engine, transmission and tracked drive system. Protections (armour, together with additional systems) decide on the resistance to the enemy fire and the survival ability of the vehicle, crew and internal equipment. This paper presents the impact loads on a load -bearing structures of combat vehicle. Load is generated by the anti-tank mine shock wave. Models ofobjects were worked out using a method of the finite element, assuming the linear characteristics of elements. Studies of loads of the structure of the special vehicle body were carried outfor the selected, the most common effects of explosives. Worked out research allows: determining the pressure distribution, evaluating the impact resistance of the hulls of vehicles, predicting the results of impact action, identifying the types of damage, designing or modernization of the hulls of vehicles.

The subject of discussion is the T-72 main battle tank. The tank is treated as three distinct bodies, representing thull, the turret and the gun. The rigid bodies are subject to a set of kinematics constraint relationships, which provide the physical interface of the system. The gun and turret are assumed to bend in the elevation and azimuth direction. Angular and axial displacements of vehicle are the input signals acting on the turret and the gun. The tank gun stabiliser, minimise the effects of vehicle motion on the main armament of tank and compensates the velocities of the vehicle. Stabilisation system, automatically maintain the position of the gun at a fixed bearing in space, in spate of any motion of the vehicle in roll, inpitch or in yaw. Mathematical model of the tank, the turret and the gun functioned as one system with the model of tank gun stabiliser (verified on the base of experimental investigations) were build. The equations of motion associated with a military tank are derived using Lagrange equations. In the next stage of the work the mathematical model could be used for versatile numerical tests of existing, modernized types of combat vehicles.

W pracy przedstawiono rezultaty obliczeń modelu czołgu poddanego oddziaływaniu obciążeń o charakterze udarowym generowanych podczas strzelania z uzbrojenia podstawowego oraz po trafieniu kadłuba lub wieży pociskiem przeciwpancernym. Podwyższenie skuteczności pocisków może być realizowane między innymi następującymi drogami, poprzez zwiększenie prędkości początkowej lub poprzez zwiększenie jego kalibru. Jedno i drugie powoduje wzrost obciążenia konstrukcji czołgu. Dane o rozkładzie prawdopodobieństwa trafienia czołgów z okresu II Wojny Światowej oraz informacje z minionych konfliktów zbrojnych wskazują, że współcześnie najbardziej zagrożona jest wieża czołgu, w której rozmieszczone jest uzbrojenie podstawowe i system kierowania ogniem. Jednakże niezależnie od miejsca trafienia czołgu obciążenie przenosi się na załogę i wyposażenie wewnętrzne, również w przypadku uderzenia pocisku niepowodującego przebicia. W pracy pokazano rezultaty analizy numerycznej stanu wytężenia wybranych elementów kadłuba dla przyjętych wariantów obciążenia oraz przebiegi czasowe przyspieszeń działających na elementy konstrukcji i członków załogi.
In paper there were presented results of calculations of tank model exposed to impact of loads generated while gunshot and after hull or turret hit by armour-piercing shell. Increase of the fire efficiency may be achieved, among others, by increase of shell initial velocity or by increase of its caliber. Both methods cause increase of construction loads. Statistical data about probability distribution of direct hit of Second World War tanks and information about recent military conflicts show, that today the most threatened tank part is the turret, with arranged armament and fire control system. However regardless of the hit-point, load spreads on the crew and inner equipment, as well in case of shell hit on the rebound. In paper there were shown the results of numerical analysis of the strain state of selected hull elements for assumed load variants as well as time courses of accelerations acting on construction elements and crew members.

Forces responsible for internal security in Poland include the Police. However, shortly after regaining independence in 1918, the officers of the newly created State Police (Act of 24 July 1919) played an important role not only in ensuring internal security, but also in critical moments in defending the independence of their homeland. A mounted police squadron taking part in the defence of Warsaw in August 1920 provided the “Zegrze” group command with precise, reliable, and thus extremely valuable information about the enemy army movements. Thanks to the knowledge of the planned directions of attack, the military commanders were able to make appropriate decisions that would make it impossible for the Bolsheviks to achieve the assumed military goals.
