Opis:
A generalization of the Carleman criterion for selfadjointness of Jacobi matrices to the case of symmetric matrices with finite rows is established. In particular, a new proof of the Carleman criterion is found. An extension of Jørgensen's criterion for selfadjointness of symmetric operators with "almost invariant" subspaces is obtained. Some applications to hyponormal weighted shifts are given.

Opis:
Numerical simulation tests were carried out using the distinct element method (DEM) with great interest in how large couple stress is actually generated in a shear band. To do this, the conventional DEM was modified slightly, so that the effect of rolling resistance at contact points can be taken into account (called MDEM). It has been found that MDEM provides a powerful tool in simulating not only the generation of large voids inside a shear band but also the high gradient of particle rotation along the shear band boundaries, in a quite similar manner to those of natural granular soils; and that couple stress, although it is very small, is certainly developed in a consistent manner with the particle relation gradient developed in a shear band.

In the paper, the generation of narrow-band random waves in a semi-infinite layer of fluid is considered. The problem is formulated in a discrete space of chosen points by means of the finite difference method. The main goal of the investigations is to construct radiation boundary conditions which enable us to replace the infinite fluid area with a finite domain. The investigations are illustrated with experimental results and numerical examples confirming efficiency of the discrete model developed in the paper.

Opis:
Reflective and transmitting properties of several layers of double-periodic arrays are studied. In the arrays, elements are conducting inclusions of various shapes. It is shown that in tbese structures all the phenomena recently found in dense wire grids with periodical defects (so-called photonic band gap structures) can be observed and explained in simple terms of inter-layer and inclusion resonances. Frequency-selective (with two and more stop bands) and polarization transformation properties of these arrays are demonstrated.

The methods of geometric resolution enhancement of multispectral Landsat 7 ETM- bands are presented. All referred to ordinary RGB-IHS transform carried out using panchromatic band and histogram matching technique. The proposed solutions consist in texture coefficient application on Intensity component. The properties of ETM+ multiresolution bands coregistration are shown.

We present the state-of-the-art in simulation of silicon-germanium (SiGe) semiconductor devices. The work includes a detailed comparison of device simulators and current transport models. Among the critical modeling issues addressed in the paper, special attention is focused on the description of the anisotropic majority/minority electron mobility in strained SiGe grown on Si. We use a direct approach to obtain scattering parameters (S-parameters) and other derived figures of merit of SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) by means of small-signal AC-analysis. Results from two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of SiGe HBTs are presented in good agreement with measured data. The examples are chosen to demonstrate technologically important issues which can be addressed and solved by device simulation.

Mechanisms of the charge transfer, the charge trapping, and the generation of positive charge during the high-field electron injection into buried oxide of silicon-on-insulator structures fabricated by different technologies are analyzed based on the data obtained from current-voltage, injection current-time, and capacitance-voltage characteristics together with SIMS data. Electron injection both from the Si film and the Si substrate is considered. The possibility of using the trap-assisted electron tunneling mechanisms to explain the high-field charge transfer through the buried oxides of UNIBOND and SIMOX SOI materials is considered. It is shown that considerable positive charge is accumulated near the buried oxide/substrate interface independently from the direction of the injection (from the film or from the silicon substrate) for UNIBOND and SIMOX SOI structures. Thermal stability of the charge trapped in the buried oxides is studied at temperatures ranging from 20 to 400° C. The theory is compared with the experimental data to find out the mechanisms of the generation of positive charge in UNIBOND and SIMOX buried oxides.

Abstract A consequence of the Fe/Ni substitution in the series of Dy(Fe0.7 xNixCo0.3)2 was studied in the presented paper. The synthesis and X-ray analysis (300 K) of the Dy(Fe0.7 xNixCo0.3)2 system were performed. The cubic, MgCu2-type, Fd3m crystal structure was evidenced for this solid solution. 57Fe Mössbauer effect measurements for the system were carried out at 77 K. The obtained crystallographic lattice parameters and the hyperfine interaction data are presented. The magnetic hyperfine field values form a separate branch of the Slater-Pauling curve situated above the branch corresponding to the Dy(Fe1 xCox)2 intermetallics.

We describe a part of the lattice of subvarieties of left distributive left idempotent groupoids (i.e. those satisfying the identities x(yz) ≈ (xy)(xz) and (xx)y ≈ xy) modulo the lattice of subvarieties of left distributive idempotent groupoids. A free groupoid in a subvariety of LDLI groupoids satisfying an identity xⁿ ≈ x decomposes as the direct product of its largest idempotent factor and a cycle. Some properties of subdirectly ireducible LDLI groupoids are found.

Opis:
A stripline waveguide with double-side UC-PBG pattern is considered. To verify usefulness of the stripline structure with UC-PBG a 3 dB coupler has been designed and fabricated. Reduction of the coupler size (due to slow wave effect) has been predicted and observed. Numerical and experimental investigation confirmed enhanced backward coupling phenomena.

Badania przepływu czynnika suszącego przeprowadzono w dwóch przemysłowych suszarkach taśmowych na przykładzie suszenia krajanki otrzymanej z korzeni selerów. Badane suszarki to: suszarka pięciotaśmowa z przenośnikami taśmowymi usytuowanymi równolegle i suszarka trójtaśmowa z przenośnikami taśmowymi rozmieszczonymi szeregowo. W pracy podano m.in. rzeczywiste wartości strumieni czynnika suszącego: dopływających do komór suszarniczych suszarek, recyrkulacyjnych oraz wypływających z wyrzutni powietrza. Wyznaczone doświadczalnie strumienie czynnika suszącego porównano z teoretycznym zapotrzebowaniem na powietrze suszące.
The flows of drying agent were investigated in two industrial band driers at drying of sliced celery roots. Two driers were tested: a five-band drier with belt conveyors spaced in parallel and three-band drier with belt conveyors arranged in row. Following data were given in the paper: real values of drying agent streams-flowing into drying chambers, recirculation and flowing out from the air outlet. Drying agent steams determined experimentally were compared with the amounts of drying air required theoretically.

Opis:
Variability of static working conditions of combustion engine in the range of higher frequencies has character of noise resulting from phenomena not taken directly into account in test program as well as from features of measuring systems. Knowledge of features of the noise contained in observed static signals is important for determining the representative values taken as static and slow-changeable in conditions of unavoidable disturbances. The tests in question were carried out in the static working conditions of a 6AL 20/24 Sulzer diesel engine, determined by the torque Me = 4.33 kNm and the rotational speed n = 660 min-1. The following quantities characterizing emission of pollutants contained in exhaust gas in the conditions described by the engine working point : torque, rotational speed and concentrations of carbon oxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, were selected for analyses. The tests were performed in the domains of time, process values and frequency. It was stated that the observed runs of the noise generated by phenomena not directly accounted for in combustion engine static test program and by measuring systems, had mainly the character of uncorrelated broad-band normal noise. The results justify a.o. correctness of averaging the measurement results obtained in static conditions as well as synchronous averaging in steady conditions.

Światłowody fotoniczne stanowią nową klasę włókien optycznych, charakteryzujących się wieloma nowymi, niezwykle interesującymi właściwościami. Jedną z nich jest możliwość kształtowania parametrów włókna poprzez modelowanie parametrów jego geometrii na etapie poprzedzającym proces produkcji. W artykule przedstawiono ideę działania światłowodów fotonicznych, ich klasyfikację, budowę oraz własności, które są przydatne głównie pod kątem aplikacji telekomunikacyjnych.
Photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) are a new class of fiber optics that are characterized by a set of new interesting features. One of them is the possibility of shaping the fiber parameters through modelling its geometry before a production process. The idea of PCFs operation, their structures and features in the light of using them in telecommunication applications are presented as well. Short characteristic of manufacturing methods of PCFs are also presented here.
