Opis:
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the reliability of functional balance tests in 7-10 year-old children, as well as the relation between the functional balance tests and anthropometric parameters.   Methods: The study sample was composed of 80 7-10 year-old children (40 boys and 40 girls) from Nishapur (Iran). The participants were selected randomly with the approval of the Nishapur Education Department. Romberg's test and Sharpened Romberg Test were used to assess static balance. Y Balance Test was used to assess semi-dynamic balance. Timed Up and Go Test and Tandem Gait Test were used to assess dynamic balance. The following anthropometric parameters were measured: weight (kg), height (cm), leg length (cm), arch of the foot (cm), upper body length (cm), lower body length (cm), upper limb length (cm). The statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 20. Findings: Romberg test was not reliable. Sharpened Romberg Test was reliable in girls. Timed Up and Go Test and Tandem Gait Test were reliable in boys. Y Balance Test was reliable in boys and girls. The analysis of the correlation between functional balance tests (static and dynamic) and anthropometric parameters according to sex showed that there was only a significant negative correlation between arch of the foot and Sharpened Romberg Test in girls (r=-.43; p=.00). Conclusions: Sharpened Romberg Test is reliable in Iranian 7-10 year-old girls. Timed Up and Go Test and Tandem Gait Test are reliable in Iranian 7-10 year-old boys. Y Balance Test is reliable in 7-10 year-old Iranian children. Static balance has a significant and negative correlation with the arch of the foot in Iranian 7-10 year-old girls.

Opis:
Background and purpose: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease, usually with multifocal symptoms and multiphasic course that is emerging as a result of inflammation and the formation of foci of myelin breakdown in the central nervous system as a consequence of not fully known harmful external factors. The aim of this study was to analyze the results of tests allowing to detect imbalances in patients with multiple sclerosis. Material and Methods: A 38 year old male with MS diagnosed in 2006 was examined. The study used three tests of balance: "Timed Up & Go" test, Tinetti test and Berg Balance Scale. The results of the scale were analyzed, which consisted in a variety of motor tasks assessing balance and gait. Tests were repeated every month for 10 months. Results: The results in each test over 10 months significantly change. Changes in response to the increase of the number of tasks and the difficulty of the test occured. As a consequence of impaired balance control, the number of falls increased. Conclusions: The stability of the patient with multiple sclerosis is getting worse in each test evaluated. The deficit of stability increased in response to increasing the number of tasks and increasing the difficulty of the test. A key role in postural stability in standing plays the pelvis and lumbo-pelvic-hip complex.

Opis:
Balance and gait stability assessment is an important part of the otoneurological examination. We present the review of the clinical bedside tests procedures for diagnosis patients with balance disorders. Instability may occur not only in vestibular system dysfunction but in neurological, musculoskeletal and visual system lesions as well. An accurate clini-cal bedside ocular motor examination like, range of motion, stability of fixation, the presence of nystagmus, saccadic and smooth pursuit tests, give information about dynamic character of ocular motility. Tests of the balance system and cerebellum functioning were elaborated. Interpretations criteria for clinical bedside tests in different disease were pre-sented. Head shaking and head trust tests for vestibular system imbalance were described. Authors paid attention to the connection between examinations results and labyrinth or central nervous system disorders. Other tests are suggested to be used in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo diagnosis and ability to self-contained patients gait evaluation. There are some more complex and time-consuming tests like Dynamic Gait Index and Berg Balance Scale, measuring quanti-tative aspects of gait efficiency. The results are obtained based on points which are obtained in various tasks e.g. walking with pivot turn, stepping over and around obstacles. All of these tests are essential part of clinical examination and give preliminary information about patients functioning status and allow to focus on further diagnosis. The final results based on points which are obtained in various tasks e.g. walking with pivot turn, stepping over and around obstacles. All of these tests are essential part of clinical examination and give preliminary information about patients functioning status and allow to focus on further diagnosis.

The Supreme Audit Office evaluated the healthcare system for children and school children, especially with regard to preventive care. The audit covered the years 2015–2017. It examined whether the current organisation of the healthcare system allowed for effective utilisation of the financial and human resources, and whether children and youngsters were provided with the required preventive and treatment services, and whether equal access to such services is ensured. NIK also audited whether the measures for improving the system were systematically implemented, as well as the activities aimed at satisfying both children and their parents or legal guardians.
