This paper presents the results of research into the cross wedge rolling (CWR) process of axle forgings. The presented results concern the parallel rolling process with two wedges. The use of two parallel wedges is aimed at shortening the tool length (increasing productivity) and reducing the values of wedge opening angles and increasing the forming angles, so that the condition 0.04 ≤ tgαtgβ ≤ 0.08 is maintained to guarantee the highest quality forgings. The article analyses the influence of the design of the double wedge tool on the geometric correctness of the forgings obtained, the value of the failure criterion and the force parameters of the process. The results obtained show that the use of multi wedge tools improves rolling conditions by increasing productivity and reducing the tendency of the material to crack with appropriately selected tool parameters.

W artykule opisano przydatność hamownianego stanowiska badawczego do badania zjawisk wibroakustycznych towarzyszących pracy mostów napędowych KTO Rosomak. Podano sposób wykorzystania dostępnej aparatury pomiarowo-analitycznej. Przedstawiono widma amplitudowo-częstotliwościowe sygnałów drganiowych zarejestrowanych przez akcelerometr mocowany w różny sposób w kilku punktach pomiarowych na kadłubach badanych mostów napędowych. Sformułowano wnioski i zalecenia dotyczące dalszych badań.
It has been assessed engine test bench usefulness for vibroacoustic process’s studies which accompany to AMV Rosomak driving axle’s operating. The way of available measurement and analysis equipment utilization has been given. There are presented the amplitude-frequency spectrum of vibration signals registered by accelerometer which is mounted in various ways in a few measuring points on driving axle’s body. The conclusions and recommendations regarding of further studies has been formed.

Heavy agricultural trailers can be equipped with a three-axle chassis with a tandem axle set at the rear and one mounted on a turntable at the front. In such trailers, selection of the distribution of braking forces that meet the requirements of the EU Directive 2015/68, with regard to braking, largely depends on the type of tandem suspension used. The requirements for brake force distribution in agricultural trailers of categories R3 and R4 are described. On this basis, a methodology for calculating the optimal linear distribution of braking forces, characteristic of agricultural trailers with air braking systems, was developed. An analysis of the forces acting on a 24-tonne three-axle trailer during braking was performed for five different suspensions of the rear tandem axle. An optimization algo-rithm using the quasi Monte Carlo method was described, on the basis of which a computer program for selection of the linear distribution of braking forces was developed. The calculations were made for an empty and loaded trailer with and without the weight of the tandem suspension. The most uniform distribution of braking forces was obtained for two leaf spring with dynamic equalization and air suspension, in which the ratio of the braking force of the tandem axle and the total braking force varied between 22.9% and 25.5% for the different calculation variants. A large variation in the braking force distribution was achieved for the two leaf spring suspension, in which the ratio of tandem axle braking force and the total braking force ranged from 2.7% to 6.4% for the leading axle and from 27.8% to 36.2% for the trailing axle. The presented calculation methodology can be used in the initial phase of the design of air braking systems for three-axle agricultural trailers.

This paper describes the engineering design for a facility to test the performance of gearboxes and drive axles. Power transmission units are much more frequently tested on test rigs than in motor vehicles. The rig testing of such devices constitutes a very complex area because of the diversity of functions performed by individual components and their parts in the power transmission systems of motor vehicles and construction machinery. In the simulation tests carried out on simulation test rigs, the conditions of testing of individual units should match the expected conditions of operation for such units as much as possible. The test rigs used for this purpose are very complicated and expensive, but the results of rig tests are more reliable and accurate than they would be if other test methods were employed. The rig tests described here reflect the impact of anticipated service loads on the endurance of the unit under test.

This paper presents preliminary results of fatigue tests of selected construction materials, which have been exposed to the simultaneous operation of the bending and torsional loads at different mix of these loads. This kind of load generally applies to much responsible construction, especially of machinery for transport. For example, rail transport is one of the most popular measures, which uses different types of locomotives. However, it is no matter what sort of the type of railway vehicle it is, because in each there we can notice a multi-axis load driving axle wheel assemblies. During the technical inspection of these items, ultrasonic flaw detectors are used to detect damage in the material that arose during the exploitation, but are not visible during the external inspection. For this reason, there are many problems, that arise during the diagnostic process using ultrasonic flaw detectors, because it is not always possible to accurately detect the resulting or arising defect in the material axes, especially in some of the built-axes, which can be studied only from the front (on both sides of the mounting of bearings). Taking into account the safety and technical problems in rail transport, it is important to carry out fatigue tests of low- and high-cycles on samples subjected to multiaxial stress state. Initially, there were taken into account the lightweight aluminum (AlMg2Mn0.47Fe0.5) that have been repeatedly multiaxial charged at different percentage of bending and twisting. The results will be referenced to the occurrence of the bending and twisting, as well as to the results obtained with the simultaneous influence of corrosive conditions due to the attempt to make the best possible mapping of the prevailing conditions in which different structural elements must actually work. The load on the low cycle fatigue and high cycle fatigue were chosen after corrosion- stress testing on the same aluminum alloy. In addition, cases of multiaxial fatigue are not as described and explained in detail as the cases of uniaxial fatigue. In spite of this fact, it is necessary to create detailed criterions for multiaxial with low- and high-cycles load.

In this paper, a new three-dimensional vehicle with tandem axels at the rear is developed to determine dynamic response of bridge deck under load applying truck. The vehicle is modeled by a three-axle dynamic system with 9 degrees of freedom to accurately simulate the disposition and the intensity of loads on the bridge deck. The bridge deck is modeled by a thin, orthotropic, multi-span plate. The road surface irregularities are modeled by a random function characterized by a spectral roughness coefficient and power spectral density. The modal method is used to solve the equation of motion of the bridge deck. Equations of motion of the vehicle are obtained using the virtual work principle. The coupled equations of motion vehicle/bridge deck are integrated numerically by Newmark’s method. A computational algorithm in FORTRAN is then elaborated to solve the integrated equations of motion in a decoupled, iterative process. A numerical example of an orthotropic, three-span bridge deck, excited by a 9 degree of freedom truck is presented. The resulting distribution of the Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF) on the bridge deck does not reflect any particular trend, because high values can be obtained at points where the vertical displacement is small. The DAF is significant only under the interaction force. Thus, the road surface roughness was shown to have a significant influence on the dynamic vehicle/bridge deck interaction forces.

Examples of inservice axle failures are given and the causes are discussed. In addition, information on the legal basis for performing non-destructive testing of sheave axles in service, technical requirements for sheave axles, critical areas found in axles, theoretical basis for ultrasonic testing, and testing techniques including the latest phased array method is presented.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the proposed research is to create a calculation model of surface fatigue crack growth at the axle of railway wheelset working under operational loads. Design/methodology/approach: The energy approach of the fracture mechanics was used to formulate the calculation model of fatigue crack propagation at the wheelset axle surface. The method of least squares was used to determine the investigated material mechanical constants that the kinetic equations of the calculation model contain. The system of differential equations of crack growth kinetics was solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta method. Findings: On the basis of the energy approach of the fracture mechanics the calculation model of fatigue macrocrack growth in three-dimensional elastic-plastic body in case of a mixed-mode I+II+III macromechanism of fracture has been built. On the basis of the created calculation model, the kinetics of the growth of fatigue cracks was investigated both in the middle part of the wheelset axle and in the axle journal. Research limitations/implications: The results obtained on laboratory specimens should be tested during a real railway wheelset axle investigation. Practical implications: The created calculation model can be used in practice to formulate method of residual lifetime estimation of railway wheelset axle. Originality/value: It was shown, that surface crack kinetics depends not only on the crack initial area but also significantly depends on the crack edge geometry and comparatively small crack-like defects at the wheelset axle surface can reach critical sizes in comparatively short run. It has been found that mechanical shear stresses caused by the weight of the loaded railway wagon in the cross section of the wheelset axle journal can significantly accelerate the growth of the transverse fatigue crack at the axle surface, reducing the period of crack subcritical growth by about 20%.

Opis:
The article presents review of methods and devices for track measurement of rail vehicles in aspect of diagnostics and safety of use. Currently used solutions do not enable effective "on-line" measurement of mileage by wheelsets and vehicles' axles in rail vehicles without electric power supply such as goods wagons and cisterns. Those solutions have limited functionality and have to use additional power supply (accumulators, generators, etc.) which significantly increase exploitation costs. A telemetric system for monitoring of wheelsets' mileage as well as of their bearing temperature, based on original solution of odometer installed on the set's grease-box, was suggested in the research. The odometer is powered from an independent source of energy generated through magnetic induction by coil and neodymium magnets. Reading of collected data is done with the help of a PDA equipped with an RFID reader as well as wired and wireless interfaces for data transmission to telemetric system and GPS.
