    The aim of the article is to make an attempt at answering the question: what kinds of attitudes and actions make someone described as gorszyciel [offender], deprawator [depraver] or demoralizator [demoraliser]. The research material was obtained from four electronic corpuses of contemporary Polish. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the contexts of the use of these nouns, preceded by a review of data from dictionaries, showed that despite their similarity, each of them is associated with specific issues more often than the others. However, all of them refer to breaking not only moral, but also legal and religious standards. Sentences with feminine forms of those nouns illustrate the asymmetry in the way women and men are described and are limited to violating moral rules.

    This article is devoted to the reconstruction of the manner of understanding and evaluation of the concept ROZKOSZ (PLEASURE, DELIGHT) in the Old, Middle and subsequent periods of the development of the Polish language, until the early twentieth century, when the modern understanding of this concept was established. The analysis focuses on the contextual uses of the lexeme rozkosz and reveals the dichotomous nature of the early concept: from the Old Polish period until the breakthrough of the Enlightenment there was the ROZKOSZ DUCHOWA (SPIRITUAL DELIGHT), motivated in a religious way and evaluated positively, and the ROZKOSZ CIELESNA (CARNAL, SENSUAL PLEASURE), reduced to sin and burdened with a negative evaluation. From the Renaissance period the concept slowly expanded to cover various spheres of life, and after the breakthrough period of the Enlightenment it became more marked: rozkosz came to refer to the social, aesthetic and intellectual sphere and it began to lose its religious basis. This process was accompanied by the decline of the evaluation and the dichotomy of the concept.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest rekonstrukcji sposobu pojmowania i wartościowania pojęcia ROZKOSZ w dobie staro- i średniopolskiej i później, do początków XX w., kiedy ustaliło się jego współczesne rozumienie. Analiza skupia się na kontekstowych użyciach leksemu rozkosz. Ujawniła ona dychotomiczny charakter dawnego pojęcia – od staropolszczyzny aż do przełomu oświeceniowego istniała ROZKOSZ DUCHOWA – motywowana religijnie i wartościowana pozytywnie oraz ROZKOSZ CIELESNA, zmysłowa, sprowadzana do grzechu i obarczona negatywną oceną. Od renesansu pojęcie powoli rozszerzało się na różne sfery życia, co po przełomie oświeceniowym stało się wyraźniejsze – rozkosz zaczęła dotyczyć sfery społecznej, estetycznej, intelektualnej i traciła umocowanie religijne – wraz z tym procesem zanika wartościowanie i dychotomia pojęcia.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest przedstawianiu i pojmowaniu epidemii w dobie staro- i średniopolskiej w świetle jej nazw: mór, morowe powietrze. Podzielony został na trzy części: nazywanie, pojmowanie, wartościowanie. W pierwszej części analizie poddano występowanie leksemów mór, morowy i pochodnych w tekstach staro- i średniopolskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ich łączliwości. Druga część jest próbą rekonstrukcji pojmowania epidemii przez użytkowników ówczesnego języka. Analiza pokazała, że epidemia nazywana leksemami mór, morowe powietrze i podobnymi jest ujmowana przede wszystkim w dwóch kategoriach: kategorii kary Bożej za grzechy i kategorii katastrofy, zwłaszcza katastrofy naturalnej. Jej postrzeganie jest silnie zależne od chrześcijańskiego światopoglądu i umocowane w tradycji biblijnej. W trzeciej części, poświęconej wartościowaniu epidemii, wskazano środki językowe, jakimi wyrażano negatywną ocenę epidemii w tekstach, w tym wykorzystywanie jej w porównaniach i metaforach nacechowanych aksjologicznie.
    The article is devoted to the understanding of epidemics in the Old Polish and Middle Polish periods in the light of the terms mór and morowe powietrze ‘plague’. It is divided into three parts: naming, understanding, and evaluation. The first part analyzes the occurrence of the lexemes mór and morowy, as well as their derivatives in Old Polish and Middle Polish texts, with particular emphasis on their connectivity. The second part attempts to reconstruct the understanding of epidemics by the speakers of the language at the time. The analysis has shown that an epidemic called with the lexemes mór, morowe powietrze is primarily seen in two ways: as God’s punishment for sins and as a catastrophe, especially a natural disaster. Its perception is strongly influenced by the Christian worldview and anchored in the biblical tradition. The third part, devoted to the evaluation of epidemics, indicates the linguistic means by which negative evaluation was expressed in texts, including its use in comparisons and metaphors characterized axiologically.

    Artykuł nawiązuje do koncepcji prawa i literatury. Celem badań jest wskazanie, w jaki sposób zmienia się kształtowanie obrazu dzieciństwa w trzech ustawach o szkolnictwie z lat 1918-2018: Ustawy z dnia 11.03.1932 r. o ustroju szkolnictwa, Ustawy z dnia 15.07.1961 r. o rozwoju sytemu oświaty i wychowania oraz Ustawy z dnia 9.09.1991 r. o systemie oświaty. Autorka analizuje, w jakim stopniu dziecko we wskazanych aktach prawnych jest traktowane w sposób przedmiotowy, a w jakim stopniu w sposób podmiotowy. Wykorzystując aksjolingwistykę, próbuje dowieść, że obraz dzieciństwa wpisany w każdy z tekstów jest związany z celami ideologicznymi władzy oraz założoną przez nią koncepcją państwa. Teza ta wiąże się z różnymi ustrojami, które panowały na ziemiach polskich we wskazanym stuleciu.
    The article draws on the concept of Law & Literature. The aim of the research is to indicate how the formation of the image of childhood changes in three laws on education from 1918—2018: The Act of 11 March 1932 on the education system, the Act of 15 July 1961 on the development of the education and upbringing system and the Act of September 1991 on the education system. The author analyzes to what extent the child in the above-mentioned legal acts is treated in an objective manner, and to what extent in a subjective manner. Using axiolinguistics, she tries to prove that the image of childhood inscribed in each of the texts is connected with the ideological aims of the authorities and their conception of the state. This thesis is related to the various regimes that prevailed in the Polish lands in the indicated century.

    The aim of the article is an attempt to answer the question of what Polish speakers mean when describing someone as porządny [decent]. Over 2,000 sentences taken from the MoncoPL corpus were studied, containing combinations of the adjective under study with nouns: człowiek, osoba, mężczyzna, facet, chłopak, kobieta, dziewczyna [man, person, guy, boy, woman, girl]. The analyzes were preceded by a review of lexicographic definitions as well as concepts of a decent man. Research has shown that the adjective porządny denotes a bundle of positive traits that are concretized depending on the context. Only in relation to women, the analyzed term is more precise and refers to the sexual and moral sphere.

    This study was inspired by the famous turn of phrase that came from the Polish statesman Władysław Bartoszewski: “It’s good to be decent” (Warto być przyzwoitym). It is frequently quoted in public discourse and invokes decency as a value that is construed intuitively and is difficult to define. The article presents a diachronic analysis of the lexemes przyzwoity ‘decent’ przyzwoitość ‘decency’, and przyzwoicie ‘decently’ since their oldest records until current usage. These lexemes appeared at the beginning of the Middle Polish period but their axiological load was low at that time. The evolution of their meanings – from axiologically neutral to positive – occurred late (in the second half of the 18th c.) and progressed quickly. Their neutral meanings, which were well-documented as late as in the 18th c., disappeared; the lexemes remained in current usage but as axiologically positive ones. Through an analysis of the early contexts an attempt is made to reconstruct of the original sense of decency and to discover its key sense in contemporary Polish.
    Inspiracją dla powstania niniejszego artykułu jest cytowane często w przestrzeni publicznej zdanie prof. Bartoszewskiego: „warto być przyzwoitym”, przywołujące przyzwoitość – wartość trudną do zdefiniowania, pojmowaną raczej intuicyjnie. Artykuł poświęcony jest diachronicznej analizie leksemów przyzwoity, przyzwoitość i przyzwoicie od momentu ich pojawienia się w polszczyźnie aż do współczesności. Leksemy te są znane polszczyźnie od początku doby średniopolskiej, ale ich nacechowanie aksjologiczne zaznacza się w tym czasie słabo. Ewolucja znaczeń od neutralnych do pozytywnie nacechowanych aksjologicznie zaszła późno i dość szybko – w 2. poł. XVIII w. W tym czasie musiało zaniknąć znaczenie neutralne, udokumentowane jeszcze w 1. poł. XVIII w. lepiej niż aksjologiczne, co wiązało się z umocnieniem tego drugiego – leksemy pozostały w użyciu, ale już jako wyrazy dodatnio nacechowane aksjologicznie. Analiza dawnych kontekstów jest próbą odtworzenia dawnego pojmowania przyzwoitości i ustalenia, co stanowi sens tej wartości współcześnie.

    Tematyka artykułu dotyczy zależności pomiędzy aksjosferą wczesnej poezji Karola Wojtyły a jego preferencjami aksjologicznymi w późniejszym okresie twórczej aktywności. Przedmiot badań stanowią: cykl poetycki Psałterz Dawidów (Księga słowiańska) z 1939 roku oraz Elementarz etyczny z lat 1957–1958. Do analizy idei w tekstach zastosowano hermeneutykę, zaś do analizy wartości – metodę aksjolingwistyczną. Badanie tekstów umożliwia odtworzenie systemu wartości preferowanych przez Karola Wojtyłę – poetę i filozofa. System ten wpisuje się w aksjologię chrześcijańskiego humanizmu.
    The subject of this article concerns the relationship between the axiosphere of Karol Wojtyła’s early poetry and his axiological preferences in the later period of his creative activity. The subject of the research are the poetic cycle The Psalter of David (The Slavonic Book) from 1939 and The Ethical Primer from 1957–1958. Hermeneutics was used in the analysis of ideas, while the axiolinguistic method was employed in the analysis of the values. The study of these texts makes it possible to recreate the system of values preferred by Karol Wojtyła as a poet and philosopher. This system is part of the axiology of Christian humanism.

    Cel artykułu stanowi próba odpowiedzi na pytania: jak w ostatnim stuleciu zmieniały się konteksty użycia rzeczownika demoralizacja w polskim dyskursie parlamentarnym oraz jakie konkretnie reguły postępowania muszą zostać przekroczone, aby pewne działania lub postawy można było określać tym mianem. Analizom zostało poddanych 1885 zdań pozyskanych z zasobów Korpusu Dyskursu Parlamentarnego, wygłoszonych podczas posiedzeń plenarnych Sejmu i Senatu RP oraz posiedzeń komisji od 1919 r. do końca czerwca 2022 r. Materiał został podzielony na trzy okresy (1919–1939, 1945–1989, 1990–2022), a następnie omówiony ze względu na tematy, z którymi łączono w poszczególnych przedziałach czasowych zjawisko demoralizacji. Badania ukazały, że rzeczownik demoralizacja nazywa istotne w danych okresach problemy dotyczące naruszania norm prawnych, społecznych i obyczajowych, może też służyć celom propagandowym lub wzmocnieniu przekazu. Pozostają jednak normy moralne, których naruszenie nie jest określane demoralizacją.
    The aim of this article is an attempt to answer the following questions: how have the contexts of use of the noun demoralization changed in the Polish parliamentary discourse in the last century, and what specific rules of conduct must be exceeded in order for certain actions or attitudes to be described as such. 1885 sentences obtained from the resources of the Polish Parliamentary Corpus,  recorded since 1919 until the end of June 2022, were analyzed. The material was divided into three periods (1919–1939, 1945–1989, 1990–2022), and then discussed in the context of topics with which the phenomenon of demoralization was associated in particular time periods. Research has shown that the noun demoralization describes the problems of breaking legal, social and moral norms important in given periods, it can also serve propaganda purposes or strengthen the message presented. However, there are moral standards, the violation of which is not called demoralization.

    This article focuses on comparative characteristics of associative images of female and male saints. The study was aimed to reconstruct and compare associative representations. The respondents were 80 students of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The methods used in the study included a “but-test” (X is A, but…) and a free association test. The data collected (received from respondents) for a saint-woman demonstrate that she is frequently attributed with features such as e.g., humble, merciful, virtuous/chaste, while a saint-man is typically presented as: strong, principal, adamant. The image of a female and male saint may strongly depend on the general image of a woman and man (respectively). According to the participants of the present study, both female and male saints have common attributes. Features of a saint include: goodness, altruism, helpfulness, devotion to God and faith, making miracles, courage, high-mindedness, serenity and humility.

    In the Middle Ages, words from the nest ‘pogarda’ (contempt) are characterised by semantic and axiological diversity. They can be found in religious texts in requests addressed to God for not rejecting a man or in negative evaluations of the human disregard for God’s commands and rules. With respect to interpersonal relations, they mean that one person disregards another one, rejects or refuses to help him or her. The latter might have had legal consequences if the person was obliged to provide such help. In Jan Kochanowski’s works, the meanings of such words do not change signifi cantly; fi rst of all, they are specifi ed in their humane dimension in the human world and the stylistic use of their religious markedness is also noticeable. A further semantic evolution goes in the direction of “sharpening” the negative sense of the lexemes, which involves, among others, a change of ethics in the democratic society, where every human being is entitled to equal respect.
