Opis:
Presented paper consists detailed analysis of the turbine to micro gasturbine. Calculatios was made for axial turbine with given mass flow rate m=0.15 [kg/s] and total inlet temperature T3*=950 [K]. The results of Design-Point, Off-Design Meanline Performance analysis and CFD computation are presented. The differences between typical size gasturbine turbines and turbines to micro-gasturbines are highlighted and some guidelines for designers of microgasturbines are given. As a major conclusions for designers of microgasturbines there is a considerations that require to be very carefull and forewarn that typical corelations for commercial gas turbines could't be take it as granted. In particular, compression ratio — solution possibility, micro gasturbine rotor speed, turbine expansion ratio Pi T as a function of compressor and turbine efficiency, efficiency of turbine as a function of reynolds number for constant specific speed coefficient and constant specific diameter coefficient, turbine to micro gasturbine performance map for different normalized rotational speed, 2D and 3D contour plots of entropy, relative Mach number at middle cut of the blade, static pressure at middle cut of the blade are presented in the paper.

Results of numerical investigations based on a 3D RANS solver FlowER, explaining the effects of geometrical and flow parameters on the development of endwall flows are presented. The blade height-to-chord ratio, flow turning in the cascade, inlet angle and radial distribution of pressure and profile load are considered here. It is also shown how the secondary flow patterns change in the case of non-nominal incidence at the suction side of the blade and due to interaction with shroud leakage and periodical turbine wakes.
Obliczenia wykonano z pomocą programu FlowER, solwera modelu 3D RANS.

Opis:
Endwall flows are among the most important sources of loss in turbines. The process of formation of endwall flows and evolution of vorticity from the endwall boundary layers is briefly described in the paper. The resulting endwall losses are discussed. The endwall boundary layer losses are evaluated theoretically by integrating the entropy increase in the boundary layer and assuming a certain model of blade profile load. The endwall losses are also calculated with the help of CFD in a 3D straight turbine cascade of Durham and compared with the results of available experimental data of ERCOFTAC.
Przepływy brzegowe stanowią jedno z głównych źródeł strat w turbinach. W pracy w skrócie wyjaśniono proces formowania się przepływów brzegowych i ewolucję wirowości pochodzącej z brzegowych warstw przyściennych. Przedyskutowano wynikające stąd straty przepływu. Wyznaczono teoretycznie straty przepływu w brzegowej warstwie przyściennej poprzez całkowanie przyrostu entropii wzdłuż warstwy brzegowej i zakładając pewien model obciążenia profilu łopatkowego. Z pomocą programów komputerowych numerycznej mechaniki płynów wyznaczono także przepływ i straty brzegowe w prostej palisadzie turbinowej Durham i porównano otrzymane rezultaty z danymi eksperymentalnymi ERCOFTAC.

Opis:
The purpose of this research is to develop a methodology for dimensioning and performance analysis of a stage of Hydraulic Axial-Flow Turbines of High Power to Weight Ratio (HAFT-HPWR). The HAFT-HPWR consists of two rows (stator and rotor) with non-twisted blades. The axial flow turbine of higher power to weight ratio is that with adegree of reaction equal to zero. The experimental results on a single stage 50\% reaction turbine show a big influence of Reynolds number on the turbine performance. The zone of operation at the best efficiency point varies strongly with the rotation speed. The performance analysis of HAFT-HPWR requires the precise assessment of the influence of the Reynolds number on deflection and the hydraulic losses. Due to complexity of the flow in an axial turbine, such assessment should be based on 3D numerical simulation, in order to compute the hydraulic losses present in a stage of HAFT-HPWR, without using models and correlations.

Opis:
Research regarding blade design and analysis of flow has been attracting interest for over a century. Meanwhile new concepts and design approaches were created and improved. Advancements in information technologies allowed to introduce computational fluid dynamics and computational flow mechanics. Currently a combination of mentioned methods is used for the design of turbine blades. These methods enabled us to improve flow efficiency and strength of turbine blades. This paper relates to a new type turbine which is in the phase of theoretical analysis, because the working fluid is a mixture of steam and gas generated in a wet combustion chamber. The main aim of this paper is to design and analyze the flow characteristics of the last stage of gas-steam turbine. When creating the spatial model, the atlas of profiles of reaction turbine steps was used. Results of computational fluid dynamics simulations of twisting of the last stage are presented. Blades geometry and the computational mesh are also presented. Velocity vectors, for selected dividing sections that the velocity along the pitch diameter varies greatly. The blade has the shape of its cross-section similar to action type blades near the root and to reaction type blades near the tip. Velocity fields and pressure fields show the flow characteristics of the last stage of gas-steam turbine. The net efficiency of the cycle is equal to 52.61%.

Opis:
Vertical-axial tidal current turbine is the key for the energy converter, which has the advantages of simple structure, adaptability to flow and uncomplex convection device. It has become the hot point for research and application recently. At present, the study on the hydrodynamic performance of vertical-axial tidal current turbine is almost on 2-D numerical simulation, without the consideration of 3-D effect. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) method and blade optimal control technique are used to improve accuracy in the prediction of tidal current turbine hydrodynamic performance. Numerical simulation of vertical-axial tidal current turbine is validated. Fixed and variable deflection angle turbine are comparatively studied to analysis the influence of 3-D effect and the character of fluid field and pressure field. The method, put the plate on the end of blade, of reduce the energy loss caused by 3-D effect is proposed. The 3-D CFD numerical model of vertical-axial tidal current turbine hydrodynamic performance in this study may provide theoretical, methodical and technical reference for the optimal design of turbine.

Opis:
Mechanisms of formation of the tir leakage over shrouded and unshrouded rotor blades are described in the paper. The loss diagrams for these two types of leakage in a wide range of cascade inlet and outlet flow angles are also plotted. They are obtained in a theoretical way from a model of stream mixing with the help of simplifying assumptions concerning the load of the rotor profile. Results of numerical investigations based on a 3D RANS solver FlowER are also presented in the paper. They extend on the effects of geometrical and flow parameters of the cascade (stage or stage group) on the development of flow losses in the leakage-dominated region as well as on the interaction of tip leakage flow with secondary flows. The tip clearance size, the level of flow turning in the cascade, incidence angle and the effect of relative motion of the blades and endwall are considered here in the case of unshrouded free-tip blades. In the case of shrouded rotor blades the tip leakage mass flow rate and its direction on the re-entry to the blade-to-blade passage. Since the tip leakage non-uniformities are hardly dissipated within the blade row where they originate, the interaction of the tip leakage with the flow in the downstream stator is considered. Same investigations also take into account the effect of relative motion of the stator and rotor blades.

This paper presents results of the design analysis of a Tesla bladeless turbine intended for a co-generating micro-power plant of heat capacity 20 kW, which operates in an organic Rankine cycle on a low-boiling medium. Numerical calculations of flow in several Tesla turbine models were performed for a range of design parameters. Results of investigations exhibit interesting features in the distribution of flow parameters within the turbine interdisk space. The calculated flow efficiency of the investigated Tesla turbine models show that the best obtained solutions can be competitive as compared with classical small bladed turbines.

The paper presents the basic types of turbine cooling systems for aircraft turbine engines as well as the essential methods of cooling turbine rim blades. The main part of the article presents the method of determining the stream parameters in the cross - sections of the output rims of the cooled turbine stage, consisting in the first stage of calculations of thermal and kinematic parameters for the stream and geometric parameters on the mean diameter in the uncooled stage. The second stage of the method includes the correction of the exhaust gas parameters and the geometric parameters of the profiles for the nozzle and rotor rim in a cooled stage. The method can be used during the conceptual design of the axial cooled turbine stage and is based on the energy conservation equation, the Euler’s moment of momentum equation, the first law of thermodynamics and definitions of the coefficients used in the theory of turbomachinery. The final part of the work includes recommendations regarding the geometric parameters of the cooled rim profiles and conclusions.

The elaborated mathematical model will make it possible to realize - in the future -simulative investigations of gas-dynamic processes taking place in a compressor fitted with controllable guide vanes. The paper presents modernisation of the steam turbine stage situated in front of the turbine extraction point, based on a 225 MW turbine LP stage as an example. The modernised design is intended to better control the steam flow in this area. In the presented design a special ring is used to drive the steam leakage flow directly to the heat exchanger. The performed experiments and numerical analyses confirmed measurable exploitation and efficiency advantages of the introduced modernisation. So far, it has been successfully applied in a number of turbines working in inland power plants, but its use can be easily extended, without need for further modification and without advantage loss, to marine turbines, especially those used as main propulsion in sea-going vessels.
