    Objectives Published reports suggest that some adverse health impact may be related to noise exposure, and motor vehicle traffic is considered to be the main source of environmental hazard of noise. The aim of this study has been to assess an association between occurrence of sleep and attention disorders with exposure to the noise generated by motor vehicle traffic in the case of a large group of children living in an urban environment. Material and Methods The data was obtained using a cross sectional study design in Bytom (Silesia, Poland) from 2003–2007 for a selected group of 7–14 year olds (N = 5136). The geographic information system was used for assessing the exposure to noise generated by the motor vehicle traffic. The association between occurrences of sleep disturbances or attention disorders and exposure to the traffic noise was examined by means of multivariable logistic regression. Results Sleep disturbances and attention disorders were found to be statistically significantly associated with exposure to the traffic noise. The multivariable logistic regression results suggest that sleep disturbances and attention disorders were more likely to occur in the case of children living in the area with higher traffic density, the odds ratio (OR) = 1.44 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.05–1.97) and 1.38 (95% CI: 1.03–1.86), respectively. Conclusions The results of the study have confirmed that the exposure to the traffic noise could be a significant risk factor for sleep disturbances and attention disorders among children.     This text is an attempt to outline the main challenges facing the Polish oil industry in the interwar period. It discusses the achievements of the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the following century. It reveals the most important issues, related to the domestic situation, foreign markets, the economic crisis, and capital challenges. The article also signals attempts to improve and develop the oil industry, including those based on exploration of new fields and cooperation with the automotive industry.

    The fact that we live in a new era of informational civilization compels us to fulfil new requirements also in the area of transportation and motorization. The paper deals with the problems of the cars of the first years of our century. Basic assumptions for the concepts of such cars are as follows: alternative forms of personal transportation are inevitable, cars must be environment friendly and friendly for human beings, and general design concept of the cars will not be changed. Some examples of such vehicles are presented using the concept of ultra light automobiles described by Q .R. Riley. The paper also describes "zero emission" cars and there are mentioned ideas of the vehicles with engines which are yet known in the sphere of science-fiction only. Design requirements for construction of future cars, ideas on construction of cars of the future as well as requirements which should realize motor vehicles friendly to humans and the environment, example solutions of various technical nature which can contribute to fulfilment of requirements imposed on SPNS and the proposal according to the author (R. Q. Riley) of Alternative cars in the 21st Century [3] are represented in the paper.

    As a manufacturing, logistics and supply chain hub within ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Thailand holds the 12th spot in global vehicle production for an estimated 2,355 Thai and multinational automotive industry enterprises. Within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Thailand ranks number one in automotive production contributing $US11.4 billion to the Thai economy and 12 percent to Thailand’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product), with the automotive industry being Thailand’s leading export sector. However, the automotive companies envisage the difficulty of cultural diversity to manage and coordinate. Therefore, cultural values from the milieu are inducted into the workplace and have a strong impact on both individual behavior and organizational effectiveness and must be direction at all levels for cross-cultural, organizational effectiveness to be achieved. It also became evident that natural disasters are frequent and highly disruptive to the global automotive supply chain and paces must be taken to countervailing the notable and continuing loss to economic growth and organizational effectiveness to both sector units and the global industry. The implementation of strategically placed, environmentally ‘habituated’, automotive parts logistics cache might be one solution to the problem. Given the crucial importance of this sector to the economy of the region and the global supply chain, the researchers surveyed 220 managers using a 7-point Likert scale questionnaire within the multinational industrial clusters of Thailand’s ‘Detroit of Asia’ Eastern Seaboard region. Using Structural Equation Modelling to test the 11 variables on Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management and Organizational Effectiveness in a cross-cultural context, it was determined that collaboration within the supply chain and the exchange of information can reduce uncertainty, with trust being a key ingredient to a JV’s success. Communication (0.836), trust (0.834) and collaboration (0.824) were ranked as significant components of cross-cultural Supply Chain Management effectiveness. The research also confirmed that the hypothesized difficulty from cultural diversity is difficult to manage and to coordinate. Analysis also confirmed the ongoing and significant problems to the global automotive supply chain by natural disasters and the consequential economic losses.

    The article discusses the method of testing vehicles on the VT-2 chassis roller dynamometer. An example of test results was presented to determine the impact of the engine configuration on the measured values. The paper also focuses on the comparison of results obtained from the dynamometer and data read using a diagnostic tester.

    Cars in the interwar became a popular means of communication. Therefore, also benefited from it in intelligence work. Mainly it was just that their exploitation was cheaper than rail travel. On the other hand, gave it the ability to travel freely and quickly, and also perform some espionage tasks. At the same time we had to be careful, because foreign intelligence quickly versed in the ways of movement of Polish officers in Gdansk. The development of the automotive industry caused a lot of interest in new models, including rapid and sports. Therefore, sometimes the variety of brands became an indispensable element of Gdańsk streets, where there had place also collisions and accidents. Having a car also scheduled between social status, and so the more expensive and nicer car had the individual, the more significant was his position in society Gdansk. Gdańsk policymakers drove expensive cars, imported from abroad. In this image also entered the Polish intelligence chief, Maj. Jan Henryk Żychoń who loved, next to glamorous parties, expensive cars. And this led to accusations him by officers working in an easterly direction, to cooperate with foreign intelligence, because there seen the source of his finances. Żychoń had no worries about false allegations, the transparency of the work of subordinate officers stations, seemed numerous instructions, even for drivers of company vehicles. This had a big impact on the streamlining of information. Cars were also cause other problems, “ace Polish intelligence” that exacerbated the dispute with his former opponents.
    In den zwei Jahrzehnten zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen wurden Automobile zu einem beliebten Verkehrsmittel. Deshalb kamen sie auch in der nachrichtendienstlichen Arbeit zum Einsatz. Dabei ging es vor allem darum, dass ihre Nutzung billiger war als Bahnfahren. Außerdem bestand die Möglichkeit, ungehindert und schnell zu reisen sowie einige Spionageaufgaben auszuführen. Gleichzeitig musste man aufpassen, weil der fremde Nachrichtendienst schnell dahinterkam, auf welche Weise sich die polnischen Offiziere in Danzig fortbewegten. Die Entwicklung der Automobilindustrie führte zu einem großen Interesse an neuen Modellen, auch schnellen und sportlichen. Deshalb wurde die Markenvielfalt mit der Zeit auch ein unabdingbares Element auf den Danziger Straßen, auf denen es auch zu Zusammenstößen und Unfällen kam. Der Besitz eines Automobils gehörte auch zum sozialen Status, je teurer und schöner das Auto eines Bürgers war, desto bedeutsamer war seine Position in der Danziger Gesellschaft. Die Danziger Entscheidungsträger fuhren teure Autos, die aus dem Ausland eingeführt wurden. In dieses Bild passte auch der Chef des polnischen Nachrichtendienstes, Major Jan Henryk Żychoń, der außer üppigen Empfängen auch teure Autos liebte. Dies trug dazu bei, dass er von in östlicher Richtung arbeitenden Offizieren beschuldigt wurde, mit einem fremden Nachrichtendienst zusammenzuarbeiten, denn dort wurde die Quelle seiner Finanzen gesehen. Żychoń machte sich nichts aus den falschen Anschuldigungen, gab aber für die Transparenz der ihm unterstellten Offiziersdienststellen zahlreiche Anweisungen heraus, auch für die Fahrer von Dienstfahrzeugen. Dies hatte großen Einfluss auf die Optimierung der Informationsarbeit. Automobile waren auch der Grund für weitere Probleme des “Asses des polnischen Nachrichtendienstes”, die zu einer Verschärfung des Streites mit seinen früheren Opponenten führten.
