Opis:
An audio processing and classification pipeline is presented in this work. The main focus is on the classification of sounds in a marine acoustic environment, however, the presented approach can be applied to other audio data. Audio samples from heterogeneous sources automatically spliced, normalized and transformed into spectrogram based visual representation are tagged on the pipeline input. The said representation is then used to train a convolutional neural network that can identify the presented categories in future recordings.

Android is a mobile device platform, whose resources are limited. Games, and high-performance applications need special approach. Most of programming patterns allow for static memory allocation or maintaining low processor usage. Regardless, there are still many situations, in which development is demanding task, and needs much research. In this work author studied and research for efficient allocation of audio resources to play them with minimal latency in non deterministic way.

In classic communication, emotion is transferred via three channels: verbal, nonverbal and paraverbal. With the audio description, which should enable blind and visually impaired people to perceive visual processes, the visual channel is omitted. Emotions are objectified using the available linguistic and para-linguistic means. On the basis of the corpora of the German-language audio films, relevant forms and forms of emotion transfer in the audio description are analyzed.

Opis:
Recently, the rapid advancement of the IT industry has resulted in significant changes in audio-system configurations; particularly, the audio over internet protocol (AoIP) network-based audio-transmission technology has received favourable evaluations in this field. Applying the AoIP in a certain section of the multiple-cable zone is advantageous because the installation cost is lower than that for the existing systems, and the original sound is transmitted without any distortion. The existing AoIP-based technology, however, cannot control the audio-signal characteristics of every device and can only transmit multiple audio signals through a network. In this paper, the proposed Audio Network & Control Hierarchy Over peer-to-peer (Anchor) system enables all audio equipment to send and receive signals via a data network, and the receiving device can mix the signals of different IPs. Accordingly, it was possible to improve the system-application flexibility by simplifying the audio-system configuration. The research results confirmed that the received audio signals from different IPs were received, mixed, and output without errors. It is expected that Anchor will become a standard for audio-network protocols.

This study investigates listeners’ perceptual responses in audio-visual interactions concerning binaural spatial audio. Audio stimuli are coupled with or without visual cues to the listeners. The subjective test participants are tasked to indicate the direction of the incoming sound while listening to the audio stimulus via loudspeakers or headphones with the head-related transfer function (HRTF) plugin. First, the methodology assumptions and the experimental setup are described to the participants. Then, the results are presented and analysed using statistical methods. The results indicate that the headphone trials showed much higher perceptual ambiguity for the listeners than when the sound is delivered via loudspeakers. The influence of the visual modality dominates the audio-visual evaluation when loudspeaker playback is employed. Moreover, when the visual stimulus is present, the headphone playback pattern of behavior is not always in response to the loudspeaker playback.

Audiodescription is a type of translation in which visual elements are transferred into verbal descriptions. Numerous studies discuss the influence of this additional narration on media accessibility for its target audiences, namely partially sighted and blind people. Nevertheless, the impact of audiodescription on different audiences, such as sighted people, is still underdeveloped. The aim of this article is to investigate the influence of audiodescription which can be considered an example of mediation in the act of communication, on sighted audiences.

The article discusses the audio form of the biography and autobiography – as seen in the radio- drama and documentary – as a distinct form in audio literature. The article is inspired by the theoretical findings of Philippe Lejeune concerning autobiographical literature and the personal diary genre. Theoretical reflections are complemented by selected examples of artistic audio genres. The examples of radio-dramas and artistic documentaries (features) discussed illustrate the specificity of the radio medium, which, on the one hand, opens up new opportunities for documentaries that are impossible to achieve in printed literature, while, on the other hand, it also imposes restrictions.

This study aimed to investigate the interaction between L2 readers and the reading text equipped with four different annotations or glosses including text-only, audio-only, text-picture and audio-picture annotations. The participants in the study were selected from four intact classes consisting of 100 students studying English at intermediate level in Kish Institute of Science & technology (olom va fonon), in Iran. After they were given a reading comprehension text, the four experimental groups were given the same reading comprehension texts with different annotations. Then, they were asked to take the same reading test as posttest. The results of the study demonstrated that text-only and audio-only were more effective than other kinds of annotation. The results suggested that providing the new words whether in audio or text annotation during reading comprehension can help students to comprehend reading in an effective way. Educational implications suggest that provision of different kinds of glosses is beneficial for L2 students although they need some scaffolding for utilizing glosses in a beneficial way.

This method acquire the properties of MDCT and contribute excelling invertiblity and good spectral mean. In this paper we discuss about the audio codec like AAC and FLAC using MDCT and Integer MDCT algorithm and to find which algorithm shows better Compression Ratio(CR). The confines of this task is to hybriding lossy and lossless audio codec with diminished bit rate but with finer sound quality. Certainly the quality of the audio is figure out by Subjective and Objective testing which is in terms of MOS (Mean opinion square), ABx and some of the hearing aid testing methodology like PEAQ (Perceptual Evaluation Audio Quality) and ODG (Objective Difference Grade)is followed. Execution measure, that is Compression Ratio(CR) and Sound Pressure Level (SPL) is approximated.

Opis:
Psychological models of art reception postulate the presence of two fundamental effects: cognitive understanding and emotional response. Unfortunately, these models are dedicated to sighted viewers. However, even though visually impaired individuals cannot directly perceive artistic creations, audio description enables them to experience the reception of, for example, a painting. In order to answer the question of whether the reception of audio description of a painting triggers similar emotions as the reception of the actual artwork, two independent studies were conducted. The research material was an audio description of Wassily Kandinsky’s abstract watercolour sketch for Composition VII, titled „Untitled”. Subjective experiences were measured using the SUPIN scale. In Study I (N = 138), higher intensity of positive affect was observed compared to negative affect after listening to the audio description. In Study II (N = 67), an increase in positive affect intensity and a decrease in negative affect intensity were observed following the audio description. The results indicate that listening to audio description, which represents an indirect contact with a visual artwork, can improve the well-being of the listeners. The obtained results will be analysed in the context of social construction of emotions and embodied cognition.

Broadcasting services seek to optimize their use of bandwidth in order to maximize user’s quality of experience. They aim to transmit high-quality digital speech and music signals at the lowest bitrate. They intend to offer the best quality under available conditions. Due to bandwidth limitations, audio quality is in conflict with the number of transmitted radio programs. This paper analyzes whether the quality of real-time digital DAB+ broadcasted radio programs surpasses the quality offered by analog FM radio. We also perform a subjective and objective quality assessment comparative study of the HE-AAC v2 audio codec used in DAB+. The subjective studies were carried out using the MOS test methodology, whereas the objective tests were realized using the ViSQOLAudio metric. These studies were followed by a questionnaire concerning the migration from analog to digital radio domain.
