    The medieval parish church in Szadek, dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary and St James the Apostle, is the town’s oldest historical monument and its most valuable relic of the past splendour. Restoration of its elevations has been in progress for several years. Renovation work has been completed on the walls of the presbytery and the northern elevation of the church with its annexes, i.e. sacristy, treasury and chapel under the invocation of Our Lady of the Rosary. The conservation and research work resulted in restoring the long-forgotten splendour of the church and in a number of important discoveries. It was found that in the first half of the 14th century a two-bay presbytery was built as well as a sacristy and an adjoining room intended for a treasury. In the next stage of construction work a threeaisle pseudo-basilica church was built, to be given a new form a hundred years later. The most spectacular discovery was identification of the original architectural design of the Renaissance chapel from the mid-16th century, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.

    The paper explores the motif of memory loss and its relationship with creation and oblivion in Michael Ende’s esoteric novel The Neverending Story. The paper also furnishes an analysis of the connections between the ontology of imagination and memory in terms of a ‘cosmogonic’ and an ‘intimistic’ approach to the world of myth and imagination, which can be identified with a veritable land of memory, an abode of remembrance and transformation.

    Plato’s Protagoras belongs to the most read and analyzed works of the philosopher. Interest is aroused not only by the content of the work, but also by its form: diligent composition, elaborate descriptions of characters and dramatic nature of separate scenes, although the work belongs to the group of narrative dialogues. The aim of this article is to analyze the prologue of Protagoras, which consists of five scenes (309a–316a), to answer the question what function they have and how important role they play in this dialogue.

    The article deals with the ancient metrology and a possible recognition of the rules determining ornamentation observed on Attic geometric pottery. While referring to former studies, the author presents ornamentation of Attic geometric pottery, revealing an exceptional standardisation and repetitiveness of elements, as having two developmental tendencies. One concerns horizontal arrangement of decorative motifs, placed in surrounding belts, while the other decoration is put in vertical panels, focusing. These both tendencies in the course of development of Attic geometric period become one harmonized whole. It is also possible to demonstrate on an example of monumental became from Athens (inv. NM 804), that the vessel was exactly twice as tall as the biggest width of its body, as well as that ornaments covering its whole surface have been made according to an accepted module. The author suggests that such a way of thinking and ordering activities should not be interpreted as proving the beginnings of classical mathematical thinking, which is to develop later. However, metrological analyses of ancient artefacts suggests that such objects as Attic geometric pottery may permit recognition of already existing disposition of its creators for visual representations of experienced reality and for attempts made to generalize these experiences.

    Ekologia w budownictwie wiąże się z różnymi aspektami działalności człowieka. Ważny jest aspekt oszczędzania energii, niezanieczyszczania wody, powietrza. Czystość powietrza wewnątrz budynku ma ścisły związek z wentylacją. Jej sprawne działanie zależy od projektanta, wykonawcy i użytkowników. Nierzadko ich działania można nazwać anty-ekologicznymi, gdyż prowadzą do zanieczyszczania powietrza zarodnikami pleśni, pyłami z złuszczających się powłok itp. W artykule przedstawiono przypadki rezygnacji z wentylacji w adaptowanych na cele mieszkaniowe poddaszy nad jętkami w dachach stromych. Ponieważ jest to błąd często spotykany, dlatego dokładniej omówiono przyczyny i skutki takich rozwiązań.
    Ecology in construction is associated with various aspects of human activity. The aspect of energy saving, not water and air pollution, is important. The cleanliness of the air inside a building is closely related to ventilation. Its smooth operation depends on the designer, contractor and users. Their actions can often be called anti-ecological as they lead to air pollution with mold spores, dust from exfoliating coatings, etc. The article presents cases of abandoning ventilation in attics over collar-shaped roofs adapted for residential purposes. Since this is a common error, the causes and effects of such solutions have been discussed in more detail.

    Starożytni Grecy zostawili po sobie ogromne dziedzictwo kulturowe. W muzeach na całym świecie można oglądać tego dowody. Wśród licznych eksponatów niekiedy trafia się pojedynczy odważnik, waga lub jej pozostałości. Bardzo rzadko spotyka się wzorce objętości. Nie ma wśród nich ani jednego wzorca długości. W poszukiwaniu starożytnych greckich miar autor odwiedził wiele muzeów. Efektem tego jest zbiór fotografii i strzępy informacji pochodzące z ich opisów. W niniejszym artykule autor postara się je uporządkować.
    In the paper the author presents the current state of knowledge about ancient, Greek standards of units of measures. It is possible to divide the ancient Greek standards of measures into official and commercial ones. The official standards were made of bronze. They were stored at main temples of cities. The access to them was limited, because they were symbols of the independence. The commercial standards were made of cheaper and more universal materials as: wood, clay, rocks or lead. They were stored in special buildings in the ancient agora. They were supervised, as a rule, by a town clerk called the metronome. Paradoxically, more commercial than official standards have survived to this day. A great diversity of measures is a common feature of ancient cultures, both considering the quality as well as the quantity. Apart from standards of the length there also existed measures of the distance. They used separate measures for measuring dry materials, different than those for liquids. The measures of mass often show diversity depending on the purpose (pharmacy or trade) or the value of measured goods (gold or common goods). In ancient Greece two systems of measures gained the greatest significance, namely: Aeginetic and Attic/Euboean. They differed in the absolute values of individual measures, while the division of measures was comparatively permanent.

    This paper presents psychrometric condition within the air layer. Possibility of simulation the moisture and temperature transport through the air layer was also investigated. The paper present the investigation of moisture and temperature distribution within the roof and consisted of two stages: 1)an experimental campaign and results analysis, 2) numerical simulations with WUFI software.
    W artykule przedstawiono analizę pomiarów parametrów powietrza wewnątrz poddasza nieużytkowego. Szczegółowo przeanalizowano wilgotność powietrza, co pozwoliło na badanie zmian transportu masy przez przegrodę dachową ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływu warstwy powietrza na intensywność procesu. Wyniki pomiarów zostały porównane z rezultatami symulacji wykonanej w programie WUFI-Pro.

    The work has shown that the cubic lattice of the usable attic space of the gable roof does not depend on the measure of the slope angles of the hipped roof ends, but only from the height of the ridge position. The surface of the hipped roof ends is the smallest when the slope angles are the same.
    W pracy wykazano, że kubatura poddasza użytkowego dachu dwuspadowego nie zależy od kątów nachylenia połaci, a jedynie od wysokości położenia kalenicy; natomiast powierzchnia połaci dachowych jest najmniejsza gdy kąty nachylenia połaci są jednakowe.

    W artykule przedstawiono pytania stawiane przez Aulusa Gelliusa w rozdziale 20 tytułu 10 jego Noctes Atticae: czym jest rogatio, czym lex, czym plebiscitum, a czym privilegium i czym się one od siebie różnią. Przytaczając defnicję lex podaną przez Capitona jako generale iussum populi aut plebis rogante magistratu, Gelliusa stwierdza, że jeśli przytoczona defnicja jest poprawna, to nie mogą być nazwane leges uchwały: de imperio Cn. Pompei, de reditu M. Ciceronis czy de caede Clodii quaestio. Dotyczą one poszczególnych osób i należy je nazwać privilegia. Należy zauważyć, że Aulus Gellius dokonał nie tylko rozróżnienia takich pojęć, jak: lex, plebiscitum, privilegium, rogatio, lecz także zwrócił uwagę na udział przy tworzeniu ustawy z jednej strony magistratus, z drugiej zaś ludu lub plebsu.
    This article presents the questions Aulus Gellius puts in Chapter 20, Title 10 of his Attic Nights on the nature of rogatio, lex, plebiscitum, and privilegium, and the differences between them. He cites Capito’s defnition of lex as a generale iussum populi aut plebis rogante magistrate (“A law ... is a general decree of the people, or of the commons, answering an appeal made to them by a magistrate”) and observes that if this definition is right, then the measures de imperio Cn. Pompei, de reditu M. Ciceronis and de caede Clodii quaestio cannot be considered leges. These resolutions applied to specific persons and should therefore be considered privilegia. Aulus Gellius not only sees a distinction between concepts like lex, plebiscitum, privilegium, and rogatio, but also observes that the parties which contributed to the drafting of a legislative act were the magistrate (magistratus) on the one hand, and the people (populus), or of the commons (plebs) on the other hand.

    INTRODUCTION Among the many factors which influence the postoperative condition of an ear, the problems of retraction processes and impaired ventilation of the middle ear cavity seem to be extremely important. The aims of the study were to present a surgical technique for the prevention of retractions and tympanosclerosis as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of pharyngeal muscle kinesiotherapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 34 patients (21 women and 13 men) who were treated in the otolaryngology department of Grodno City Hospital during the period from 2010 to 2012. The mean age was 31.3 ± 3.3. Аll the patients were treated for chronic atticoantral otitis. The examination included an evaluation of speech, otomicroscopy, audiometry, tympanometry, impedance audiometry, as well as acumetry. Аll the patients underwent reconstructive surgery of the middle ear and comprehensive kinesiotherapy consisting of 10 exercises. RESULTS Positive clinical and morphological results depended on the scope of reconstruction. The number of patients with adequate social hearing after atticoantrotomy with closed tympanoplasty increased from 40% to 69% and after open tympanoplasty, it increased from 22.2% to 61.5%. Tympanogramme analysis revealed a larger increase in P, G, C indicators after carrying out comprehensive kinesiotherapy exercises repeatedly: P of 24, G of 0.014 and C of 0.05. CONCLUSION During reconstructive surgery of the middle ear, it is necessary to focus on the structure of the neotympanic cavity walls to create an adequate aeriferous system. In the postoperative period, measurements assessing middle ear ventilation behaviour are necessary. Comprehensive throat muscle kinesiotherapy is a simple and easily accessible method, which can be performed by the patient under supervision of an otolaryngologist.
    W S T Ę P Spośród licznych czynników wpływających na stan pooperacyjny ucha niezywkle isotny wydaje się problem kieszonek retrkacyjnych i upośledzonej wentylacji ucha środkowego. Celem badania było przedstawienie metody chirurgicznej, która zapobiegałaby retrakcjom i tympanosklerozie, oraz ocena skuteczności kinezyterapii mięśni gardłowych. M A T E R I A Ł I M E T O D Y Badaniem objęto 34 pacjentów (21 kobiet i 13 mężczyzn) leczonych w Klinice Laryngologii Szpitala Miejskiego w Grodnie w latach 2010–2012. Średnia wieku wyniosła 31,3 ± 3,3 roku. Wszyscy pacjenci leczeni byli z powodu przewlekłego attykoantralnego zapalenia ucha środkowego. Badanie obejmowało ocenę mowy, badanie otoskopowe w mikroskopie, audiometrię, tympanometrię, audiometrię impedancyjną, akumetrię. Wszyscy pacjenci byli poddani operacji rekonstrukcyjnej ucha środkowego oraz kompleksowej kinezyterapii, składającej się z 10 ćwiczeń. WYNIKI Pozytywne kliniczne i morfologiczne wyniki zależały od zakresu rekonstrukcji. Liczba pacjentów z odpowiednim socjalnie wydolnym słyszeniem, poddanych zabiegowi attykoantrotomii z zamkniętą tympanoplastyką, wzrosła z 40% do 69%, a po otwartej tympanoplastyce z 22,2% do 61,5%. Kontrola tympanogramów wykazała wyższy wzrost wskaźników P, G, C po kompleksowych ćwiczeniach kinezyterapeutycznych z powtarzalnym P dla 24, G dla 0,014 oraz C dla 0,15. WNIOSKI Przy operacjach rekonstrukcyjnych ucha środkowego niezwykle istotne jest, aby zwrócić uwagę na strukturę jamy neotympanalnej dla wytworzenia odpowiedniego systemu powietrznego. W okresie pooperacyjnym niezbędne są pomiary oceniające zachowanie wentylacji ucha środkowego. Kompleksowa kinezjoterapia mięśni gardła jest prostym i łatwo dostępnym sposobem, który może być stosowany przez pacjenta pod nadzorem lekarza laryngologa.

Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę najczęściej stosowanych rozwiązań projektowych, w odniesieniu do struktur dachowych budynków wzniesionych według tradycyjnych technologii budowlanych pod koniec XIX i na początku XX wieku, na gęsto zaludnionych obszarach miejskich, które często zlokalizowane są w strefach ochrony konserwatorskiej. Zaproponowana charakterystyka poparta jest przykładami projektów przestrzeni dachowej oraz rodzajów konstrukcji więźb dachowych i drewnianych stropów.
    The publication covers the issues of adaptation and repair of roof space for contemporary utility functions. The article presents the characteristics of the most common design solutions of roof structures in buildings erected in traditional construction technologies in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in a dense urban area, which often are located in conservation areas. The proposed characterization is supported by actual examples of roof space design and construction types of timber roof truss and wooden ceilings.

    Opis:
    W pracy zawarto rozważania dotyczące stosowania przypadków normowych obciążenia śniegiem dachów płaskich z attykami według normy Eurokod 1. Przedstawiono sposób wyznaczania obciążeń śniegiem zgodny z normą PN-EN 1991–1-3:2005 wraz z późniejszymi zmianami. Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą wytężenia stropodachów dla trzech przypadków obciążenia. Analizę porównawczą przeprowadzono numerycznie z wykorzystaniem oprogramowania systemowego ABC 6.15. Analizie poddano płaski stropodach, monolityczny, żelbetowy, krzyżowo-zbrojony. Przedstawiono wyniki momentów zginających dla trzech przypadków obciążenia śniegiem. W pracy odniesiono się również do typowych stosowanych w Polsce stropodachów prefabrykowanych typu TERIVA.
    The present work contains considerations related to application of norm cases, related to snow-load on flat roofs with attics, according to the provisions of the Eurocode 1 norm. The snow-load determination method has been presented. The method has been developed in line with the PN-EN 1991-1-3:2005 norm, along with the further amendments. In the further part of the article, the summarizes the comparative stress analysis for flat roofs, for three load cases. The analysis contained in the article has been carried out numerically, with the use of the ABC 6.15 software. A flat monolithic, ferro-concrete crossreinforced roof is the subject of that analysis. The work also presents the results for the bending momentum values, for three snow-load cases. The work also makes a reference to the typical TERIVA flat roofs that are widely and commonly applied in Poland.

    Pewne wyrażenia prawne, znane niegdyś ogólnie, z czasem stają się niezrozumiałe. Ciekawym przykładem tego jest sformułowanie ex iure manum consertum omawiane przez antykwarystę. Aulus Gellius zapytał Sulpiciusa Apollinarisa słynnego  wówczas znawcę literatury co oznaczają słowa ex iure manum consertum. Ten w odrzekł mu, że jest znawcą literatury a nie prawa, a tego sformułowania nie ma na kartach Annales. Kiedy jednak Gellius wyrecytował tę frazę z dzieła  Enniusa, Supicius Apollinaris skonstatował, że Ennnius zaczerpnął je od jakiegoś jurysty i odesłał Gelliusa do jurystów i ich dzieł. Gellius po zbadaniu sprawy doszedł do wniosku, że, jeśli toczył się spór (in iure) o jakąś rzecz (de re) znajdującą się (in re praesenti) przed pretorem, czy to o grunt, czy o coś innego, trzymając tę rzecz w ręku (in iure manum consererent), dokonywano jej windykacji w uroczystych słowach. Z czasem, po rozszerzeniu granic państwa, pretorzy nadmiernie zajęci w sprawach dotyczących windykacji udawali się niechętnie daleko położonych spornych rzeczy. Zatem, za milczącym przyzwoleniem (tacito consensu), wbrew Ustawie XII Tablic zezwolili, aby toczący spór udawali się na grunt, o który toczył się spór, i przynosili grudkę jakąś z niego, jakby całą ziemię przed pretora na sąd (in ius) i przy pomocy tej grudki (ex iure manum consertum), tak jakby na całym gruncie dokonywali windykacji.
    Some legal expressions which once used to be generally known after some time become incomprehensible. An interesting example is the expression ex iure manum consertum, which occurs in Aulus Gellius’ Attic Nights. Aulus Gellius asked the well-known literary expert Sulpicius Apollinaris what it meant. Sulpicius Apollinaris said that he was a connoisseur of literature, not a legal specialist, and that the phrase did not occur in the Annals. But when Gellius told him it was a quote from Ennius, Sulpicius Apollinaris replied that Ennius must have cited it after a jurist, and told Gellius to ask the jurists and look in their works. Gellius conducted a search and eventually reached a conclusion that the expression applied to proceedings before a praetor’s court for the recovery of goods, often real property or some other property, which was to be presented to the praetor by “being brought in the hand” (de re in re praesenti in iure manum consererent). Recovery of the goods in question was then effected in an official proclamation. With time, as the state expanded, praetors were too busy with cases for the recovery of real property and did not want to travel to distant places to inspect the contested goods in situ, so they permitted the parties to the litigation to fetch a lump of earth from the disputed land and present it in court. This was done in contravention of the Law of the Twelve Tables, but with the tacit consent of the parties involved. The lump of earth “lawfully brought to court” represented the whole of the property, which was thereby recovered.
