Opis:
The necessity of a positioning service for various ground handling assets is key to improving airport performance. Reported in this article is a system named “Ground Eye”, designed to be a test of a possible implementation of the independent LTE-based communication system and GNSS-based location services. The test campaign used a total of nine prototype devices for a period of one month at Gdańsk airport (Poland). The main goal of this demonstration was to verify the possibility of using the GNSS/LTE system as a fast-deployment option in the airport environment, as well as to evaluate its positioning and communication capabilities in conjunction with React.JS/Deck.GL/Node.JS dedicated application. The test campaign verified that even with simple processing and relatively simple single-frequency measurements, multi-constellation GNSS receivers, it is possible to obtain location with precision reaching better than 2.5 metres. This precision should be good enough for all ground handling operations at modern airports, without the need for additional fixed infrastructure.

Opis:
This paper discusses the current and new satellite transponders for global tracking and detecting of oceangoing ships, assets, crew, passengers and any moving objects at sea for enhanced vessels traffic control and management. These transponders are able to monitor all maritime assets and to improve safety, security of movements and collision avoidance, especially during very bad weather conditions and visibility. By deployment of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in integration with Inmarsat, Iridium and other satellite systems in one unit with antenna, it is possible to provide reliable positioning and tracking solutions for civilian maritime, other mobiles and personnel at different Radio Frequency (RF) bands. The existing and forthcoming space and ground segment for positioning and tracking solutions as a modern Satellite Asset Tracking (SAT) onboard ships, and other relating systems are discussed and benefits of these new technologies and solution for improved positioning and tracking are explored.

Opis:
The healthcare system today faces numerous challenges due to lack of visibility of resources and low utilisation, excessive rental as well as purchase of medical equipment. The article attempts to identify the possibilities of implementing a system of identification and location of assets in healthcare system institutions. This research presents market analysis in the context of available technological solutions. The implementation of real-time location system (RTLS) would enable not only tracking of equipment and inventory in medical facilities, but also increase visibility of inventory and manage the entire supply chain. Presentation of the proposed solution made it possible to assess costs, potential savings and the implementation process. This article is a starting point for a discussion on the cost-effectiveness of using RTLS in the healthcare system.

Opis:
We present a software platform for designing and testing wireless networks of sensors and actuators (WSNs). The platform consists of three components: an operating system for small-footprint microcontrollers (dubbed PicOS), a software development kit (SDK) amounting to a C-based, event-oriented (reactive) programming language, and a virtual execution platform (VUE2 ) capable of emulating complete deployment environments for WSNs and thus facilitating their rapid development.1 Its most recent incarnation introduced in the present paper is a component of the WSN lab being currently set up at Vistula in collaboration with Olsonet Communications Corporation. 2 We highlight the platform’s most interesting features within the context of a production WSN installed at independent-living facilities.
