The article relates to artistic creation of intellectually disabled people as an example of possible means of their emancipation. In this paper I claim that artistic creation of intellectually disabled people may constitute a tool of self-expression, and as a result be a way to realize the emancipatory paradigm in special education. I have illustrated my hypothesis with some poetry written by two women affected by Down syndrome whose creation is a conscious act of formulating an autonomous artistic message.

The aim of the article is to examine the figure of a vagabond and an artist in the novel The Hidden Mountain (La Montagne secrète) by Gabrielle Roy which, according to Antoine Boisclair, is the first Quebec novel completely devoted to painting. It presents the wandering of the artist who does not perceive his vagabondage as movement from one place to another, but regards it as the essence of both his existence and his creation. First, the analysis explores the problem of wandering as narrative basis, examining the tension between the external reality and the inner experience of the painter. Then, the aim of the artist’s journey, symbolically delineated by the Hidden Mountain, is analyzed. The final part of the article is devoted to the concept of art presented in the novel, with particular emphasis on the humanistic dimension of artistic creation.

Focusing on the work of Yemenite “ethnic” dance companies in Israel, this article aims to understand how issues such as a shift in collective representations come to be invested into dance practices. In other words, it discusses how artistic creation and identity reconfigurations happen to associate in a dance form, and how an ethnographic study of dance practices and their contexts of performance may be a valuable way of accessing the dynamics of self-positioning of a group within the surrounding society. Linking together “classical” ethnography, analysis of dance products, and socio-political contextualisation, the present analysis shows that the articulation of two apparently contradictory ways of building these companies’ repertoire allows Yemenite dancers, choreographers, and also internal audience, to assume in one single dance form a sense of “being Yemenite” whilst not giving up the national dimension of their Israeli identity.

In his documentary Declaration of Immortality, Marcin Koszałka intentionally refers to the style of Wojciech Wiszniewski. Visual creativity is strongly exposed here, both in the style of fi lming and the presentation of the hero. Th e main character in the fi lm, Piotr Korc zak, reminds of the monument-like heroes from Wiszniewski’s fi lms, like protagonist from Wanda Gościmińska. A Weaver Koszałka fi lmed the scenes in the Potocki Palace in Krzeszowice in the manner of Wiszniewski’s long tracking shots. Visual creativity in Koszałka’s and Wiszniewski’s fi lms encompasses the staging, precise frame composition, and their intentional artifi ciality, which does not nullify the documentary their nature. Form in the works of the directors of Primer (Wiszniewski) and Declaration of Immortality (Koszałka) interacts more or less with the spirit of Stanisław Witkiewicz’s art. Koszałka, like Wiszniewski, ‘dismantles’ reality, exposing the illusion of cinema to present a guru of mountain climbing (Korczak) as a ‘hostage of immortality’. Th e lonely hero from Wiszniewski-like staged scenes in Declaration of Immortality is presented as an ‘outgoing star’ whose fame has passed, giving way to alienation or a sense of failure. Th e tension from Declaration of Immortality emerges from the contrast between the way of fi lming (heroic style), and the meaning of particular scenes. Th e cinema of Wojciech Wiszniewski includes symbols, metaphors, and allegories. Th is artistic conception goes well with Marcin Koszałka’s concept of cinema, which – since the making of Existence (2007) – has become more and more symbolic, incorporating Baroque-like formal ideas based on strong contrasts to evoke ‘cognitive discomfort’ in the viewer.

The article discusses fundamental aesthetic stances which Tove Jansson has adopted in her Moomin books, traditionally perceived as children’s literature. Nevertheless, the series is notably multi-addressed, and analyses of numerous scenes allow us to draw conclusions about the author’s own concepts of beauty and art, which are accessible to more experienced readers. As the study shows, Jansson’s approach does not correspond to one specific theory but rather inclines to perceptualism, emotionalism and hedonism. Furthermore, the article discusses the reflections on the act of artistic creation which the artist interwove predominantly into the characterization of Moominmamma and Moominpappa. In the traits of these two key characters she addressed aspects of her own two artistic domains, painting and writing. However, taking a stand on serious philosophical matters, she managed to retain an evident child-oriented address, demonstrating her unique mastery of double address.

The aim of the article is to demonstrate the relationship between the work of Józef Hołard and literature that inspired his work. A valuable document explaining this issue is found in the unpublished text of the artist entitled Credo, written in connection with the conduct of proceedings at the university. Associated with Bielsko-Biała, Professor Józef Hołard died in January 2015, but his painting, drawing and design works have not been sufficiently explored. They contain many symbolic elements derived from the esoteric and occult sciences. However, they are used and understood very freely by the artist, who gives priority to artistic creation. For many years he drew inspiration from literature dealing with similar subjects, especially Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco. The series of drawings and paintings According to Umberto Eco is best known in Hołard’s oeuvre.

Posoborowe wskazania liturgiczne, których widomym znakiem stał się wolnostojący ołtarz z kapłanem sprawującym liturgię „przodem do wiernych”, uwolniły ściany prezbiteriów nowobudowanych świątyń od wielkich nadstaw ołtarzowych. Zaistniała sytuacja stała się swego rodzaju wezwaniem dla twórców sztuki sakralnej, stwarzając możliwość powrotu do szlachetnej sztuki mozaikowej, której monumentalne dzieła pierwszego tysiąclecia przetrwały do dziś. Wystarczy wspomnieć chociażby świątynie Rawenny, Palermo czy samego Rzymu. Ich bogate w formę i treść programy ikonograficzne znajdują swoją kontynuację w wielkoformatowych, współczesnych mozaikach ołtarzowych o. Marko Ivana Rupnika, w których wyrafinowana forma artystyczna splata się z przemyślaną koncepcją teologiczną, ukazując żywotność tradycji u progu trzeciego tysiąclecia. Niniejszy artykuł stawia sobie za cel ukazanie zasadniczych teologicznych wątków maryjnych, obecnych w największym kompleksowym zespole mozaik, jaki w ostatnich latach powstał w Polsce.
The post-conciliar liturgical indications, of which the free-standing altar with the priest celebrating the liturgy „facing the faithful” became a visible sign, freed the presbytery walls of newly built churches from large altar extensions. The situation became a kind of call for the creators of sacred art, providing an opportunity to return to the noble mosaic art, whose monumental works of the first millennium have survived to this day. It is enough to mention the temples of Ravenna, Palermo or Rome itself. Their iconographic programs, rich in form and content, are continued in the large-format, contemporary altar mosaics by Father Marko Ivan Rupnik, in which a refined artistic form intertwines with a well-thought-out theological concept, showing the vitality of tradition at the threshold of the third millennium. The aim of this article is to present the basic Marian theological themes present in the largest complex set of mosaics that has been built in Poland in recent years.

Artistic activity may help people with disabilities caused by traffic accidents realize themselves socially. Most often, such persons practice writing poetry, short stories and autobiographical novels. Poetry allows one to express their emotions associated with such questions as suffering, pain, the sense of life, disability, illness and God. Poetry of people with disabilities often has a religious and multifaceted character and, therefore, it plays a therapeutic role. In consequence, people become capable of accepting their disability.
Osoby niepełnosprawne po wypadkach komunikacyjnych realizować się mogą społecznie poprzez aktywność artystyczną. Najczęściej osoby te realizują się poprzez pisanie wierszy, opowiadań czy autobiograficznych powieści. Wiersz pozwala na wyrażanie własnych emocji o swoich uczuciach, cierpieniu, bólu, sensu życia, niepełnosprawności, choroby i Bogu. Często poezja osób niepełnosprawnych ma charakter religijny, a także wielowątkowy, przez co spełnia rolę terapeutyczną dla tych osób, dzięki czemu następuje z czasem akceptacja własnej niepełnosprawności.

Plastyka stanowi jedną z możliwości porozumiewania się ludzi. Wewnętrzna potrzeba wypowiadania się w tej formie nasila się w okresie wczesnoszkolnym, kiedy język mówiony i pisany nie jest dominującym źródłem komunikacji. Twórczość plastyczna jako naturalna predyspozycja dziecka wynika z potrzeb psychicznych, przejawia się we wszystkich formach aktywności i jest motorem jego rozwoju. Opisanie i wyjaśnienie procesu przebiegu rozwoju plastycznego dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym stanowi próbę włączenia się do rozważań na temat rozwijania form aktywności plastycznej dzieci oraz stymulacji determinującej ich twórczy rozwój.
The art constitutes one of the possibilities in people communication. The inner need of speaking out in this form, intensifies in an early school age, when spoken and written language is not a dominant source of communication. The artistic creation as a natural child’s predisposition, results from psychological needs, manifests in all forms of activities and is driving force of his development. Depiction and explanation of the development graphic ability of the children in the primary school age, is an attempt to join a discussion on expanding the types of children’s arts activities and stimulation, determining their artistic development.

Opis:
The social meaning of artistic creation derives from how works of art function, or how they are used. In this sense, the incorporation of a work of art into the realm of commercial relations does not depreciate art, but is a specific mode of its existence. An analysis of this mode reveals two antithetical types of logic behind the dissemination of art. One is the market logic that turns a work of art into a profit- -generating commodity through the sale/purchase acts in which it is involved. The other one is the mystical logic of ‘the bond between the owner and the possession’ - in this case between the artist and his or her work - which dates back to archaic forms of culture. The presence of this logic in commercial relations is reflected in the fact that a work of art acquires the status of ‘intellectual property’, which simultaneously restricts its free circulation and offers the prospect of unlimited profits to its owner. Thus, a work of art as ‘intellectual property’ turns out to be a hybrid whose disfunctionality is clearly exposed by the communication practices of the global network.

Opis:
The study presented in this article looks at how the phenomena of reality are constructed in totally blind people’s drawings. Analysis focuses on drawing skills and their development seen based on drawings made by people who have been blind since birth. Raised-line drawings made on a special drawing film for blind people were analyzed. The analysis covered: 1. Blind people’s cognitive abilities – the way they see phenomena. 2. Abilities and ways of presenting phenomena in drawings. 3. Determining stages in the development of drawing skills in blind children as compared to the development of drawing skills in sighted children. The study was motivated by the desire to answer the following questions: What similarities and differences are there in the process of drawing by people with disabilities and in their drawings? What esthetic features (content, form, uniqueness of presentation, manner of displaying emotions) do blind children’s drawings have? How are the phenomena of reality depicted in blind people’s drawings? What difficulties do blind people encounter in making a drawing on a two-dimensional surface? Does blind children’s artistic development take place in a similar way as sighted children’s artistic development? Are blind children at a similar level of artistic development as their sighted peers? I proposed a model of artistic creation that takes into consideration the content and form of drawings and the artist’s creativity and emotionalism which was used as a tool in the analysis. All aspects of the analysis refer to the stages of drawing development in sighted children proposed by: Stefan Szuman, Viktor Lowenfeld, W. Lambert Brittain, and Georges-Henri Luquet.
Badania zaprezentowane w artykule dotyczą konstruowania zjawisk rzeczywistości w rysunkach osób całkowicie niewidomych. Przedmiotem analizy jest sprawność rysunkowa i jej rozwój zaobserwowane na podstawie rysunków wykonanych przez osoby niewidome od urodzenia. Analizie poddane zostały wypukłe rysunki na folii mikrorowkowanej dla niewidomych. Analiza dotyczy: 1. Możliwości poznawczych osób niewidomych – sposobu widzenia zjawisk przez te osoby. 2. Możliwości oraz sposobów ujmowania zjawisk w rysunkach. 3. Wyznaczenia etapów rozwoju sprawności rysunkowej dzieci niewidomych na tle rozwoju tej sprawności u dzieci w normie. Motywem badań była chęć odpowiedzi na pytania: Jakie są podobieństwa i różnice procesu rysowania i rysunku osób niewidomych? Jakimi cechami estetycznymi (treścią, formą, niepowtarzalnością ujęcia, sposobem przejawiania emocji) odznaczają się rysunki dzieci niewidomych? Jak wygląda obraz zjawisk rzeczywistości w rysunkach niewidomych? Na jakie trudności napotykają niewidomi w konstruowaniu rysunku na dwuwymiarowej płaszczyźnie? Czy rozwój plastyczny dzieci niewidomych przebiega podobnie jak u dzieci widzących? Czy dzieci niewidome są na podobnym etapie rozwoju rysunkowego jak ich widzący rówieśnicy? Narzędziem analizy stał się zaproponowany przeze mnie model wytworu plastycznego, który uwzględnia treść i formę rysunku oraz kreatywność i emocjonalność twórcy. Opis:
Artykuł niniejszy podejmuje problem projekcji wiedzy o zjawiskach rzeczywistości w rysunkach dziecka całkowicie niewidomego od urodzenia. Aby dokonać analizy rysunku osoby niewidomej, usiłuję dotrzeć do tego wycinka wiedzy tkwiącej w umyśle autora, który generuje kreowane w rysunku zjawisko. Staram się zatem ustalić zakres wiedzy o zjawisku za pomocą rozmowy na temat doświadczeń dziecka: – doświadczeń sensorycznych zdobytych drogą percepcji dotykowej, a także z udziałem pozostałych zmysłów, – wiedzy o zjawisku zawartej w umyśle (model kognitywny). Przedmiotem analizy staną się wypukłe rysunki na folii mikrorowkowanej, a narzędziem analizy model ukazujący: treść i formę rysunku, kreatywność i emocjonalność rysownika. Analizy te zostaną porównane i zweryfikowane zgodnie z etapami możliwości rysunkowych dzieci widzących. Ustalam je, korzystając z badań Szumana (1990), Lowenfelda i Brittaina (1977) oraz Luqueta 2001/1927). Narzędzie to uwzględnia aktualną wiedzę o sztuce, o etapach rozwoju plastycznego dziecka oraz o możliwościach osób niewidomych.
The following article focuses on the problem of knowledge projection of reality shown in the drawings of a child completely blind since birth. To analyse a drawing of a blind person, I try to reach this fragment of knowledge in the mind of the author that generates the phenomenon created in the drawing. Therefore, I try to determine the scope of knowledge about the phenomenon by having a conversation with the child about his experiences: – sensory experiences acquired through tactile perception, as well as other senses, – knowledge about the phenomenon contained in the mind (cognitive model). The subject of the analysis will be convex drawings on the micro-grooved film. The analysis tool will comprise of the model showing the content and form of the drawing, the creativity and the emotionality of the illustrator. These analyses will be compared and verified in accordance with the stages of the drawing skills of sighted children. I determine them using the studies of Szuman (1990), Lowenfeld and Brittain (1977) and Luquet (2001/1927). This tool takes into account current knowledge about art, stages of child’s plastic development and the abilities of blind people.
