Opis:
The issue of the relation between AI and human mind has been riddling the scientific world since ages. Being the mother lode of research, AI can be scrutinised from a plethora of perspectives. One of them is a linguistic perspective, which encompasses AI’s capability to understand language. Having been an innate and exclusive faculty of human mind, language is now manifested in a countless number of ways, transcending beyond the human-only production. There are applications that can not only understand what is meant by an utterance, but also engage in a quasi-humane discourse. The manner of their operating is perfectly organised and can be accounted for by incorporating linguistic theories. The main theory used in this article is Fluid Construction Grammar, which has been developed by Luc Steels. It is concerned with parsing and segmentation of any utterance – two processes that are pivotal in AI’s understanding and production of language. This theory, in addition with five main facets of languages (phonological, morphological, semantic, syntactic and pragmatic) provides a valuable insight into the discrepancies between natural and artificial perception of language. Though there are similarities between them, the article shall conclude with what makes two adjacent capabilities different. The aim of this paper is to display the mechanisms of AI natural language processors with the aid of contemporary linguistic theories, and present possible issues which may ensue from using artificial language-recognising systems.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present the underlying reason of the unsolved symbolgrounding problem. The Church-Turing Thesis states that a physical problem, for which there is an algorithm of solution, can be solved by a Turingmachine, but machine operations neglect the semantic relationship betweensymbols and their meaning. Symbols are objects that are manipulated on rulesbased on their shapes. The computations are independent of the context, mentalstates, emotions, or feelings. The symbol processing operations are interpretedby the machine in a way quite different from the cognitive processes.Cognitive activities of living organisms and computation differ from each other, because of the way they act in the real word. The result is the problem ofmutual understanding of symbol grounding.

Opis:
A language grounding problem is considered for nonuniform sets of modal conjunctions consisting of conjunctions extended with more than one modal operator of knowledge, belief or possibility. The grounding is considered in the context of semiotic triangles built from language symbols, communicative cognitive agents and external objects. The communicative cognitive agents are assumed to be able to observe external worlds and store the results of observations in internal knowledge bases. It is assumed that the only meaning accessible to these agents and assigned to modal conjunctions can be extracted from these internal knowledge bases. Commonsense requirements are discussed for the phenomenon of grounding nonuniform sets of modal conjunctions and confronted with an original idea of epistemic satisfaction relation used to define proper conditions for language grounding. Theorems are formulated and proved to show that the communicative cognitive agents based on the proposed model of grounding fulfill some commonsense requirements given for processing sets of nonuniform modal conjunctions. The main result is that the communicative cognitive agents considered can be constructed in a way that makes them rational and intentional as regards the processing of modal conjunctions and from the human point of view.
