Opis:
The investigations were carried out to determine the relation ship between Cr, Co, Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb content and glacial morphogenesis that implies the geomorphological position of out crops of Quaternary deposits. The analysis deals with parts of two glacial uplands whose relief developed during deglaciation of the Warta ice sheet and which are characterized by similar relief and lithology of surface deposits. These are the Nidzica Upland near Grzebsk and the Bielsk Plain near Bielsk Podlaski. These areas show distinct regularity in pattern of geomorphological units, proving their areal deglaciation. Melt-out depressions, side valleys, ablation covers, kame terraces and kames as well as glaciofluvial plains are observed. The typical geomorphological element is isolated morainic hills (mesas). The investigations en abled determinations of regularity in the distribution of chemical eleements in the soil environment of the geomorphological units. Among mineral sediments, clay interlayers observed within kameter race and kame deposits were the most susceptible to concentrations of heavy metals, regard less of the region and the element to be determined. Lower Cd, Cu, Co, Pb, Zn and Cr contents were as sociated with morainic mesa and ablation cover deposits. The lowest contents of heavy minerals were mea sured in glaciofluvial plain, kame and kame terrace sands. Among land forms filled with organic deposits, the high estabilities to fix Cr, Co, Cu and Zn were shown by ice-dammed basins within upland deposits (Nidzica Upland) and side valley deposits (Bielsk Plain). Peats and muds of melt-out depressions were found to be most active in retaining Cd and Pb.

Opis:
The author attempts at formulating a synthetic description of geological and geomorphological effects of theWartanian ice-sheet deglaciation in the eastern part of the Łódź region, taking their spatial variability into consideration. Characteristic features of Wartanian Glaciation sediments occur in this area, and their lithofacial diversity and spatial distribution needed interpretation. The deposits document the complex processes of deglaciation, which developed here across an unusually broad area in the scale of the Polish Lowland. The best developed deglaciation sediments occur in the eastern part of the Łódź Heights, between the Mroga and Rawka rivers, as structural components of different types of kames and glaciofluvial covers. In locations where glacial till is elevated they include mainly sediments of braided rivers and alluvial cones, whereas in areas of wide depressions of till and, thus, of the ice-sheet bedrock — glaciolimnic sediments prevail. The highest and most diverse western part of the Łódź Heights is characterised by the occurrence of thin and discontinuous deglaciation sediments, because this area was shaped mainly during the ice-sheet transgression. During deglaciation, ablation waters left mainly traces of erosion, whereas the glaciofluvial accumulation series are not well developed. In the Rawa Interfluve, deglaciation sediments accumulated predominantly at the early deglaciation stage in sparesely distributed broad basins of kame sedimentation. In the Piotrków Plain, deglaciation deposits are thin; ice-sheet disintegration proceeded without major blockages of ablation waters, resulting in a less diverse interfluvial landscape.

Opis:
The subject of the analysis was a tunnel valley, weakly outlined in the landscape, located in central Poland, between Łódź and the Pilica valley to the west of Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The Miazga and lower Wolbórka flow along this valley. It is a 45-kilometre-long landform, mostly buried, partially covered with fluvial, slope and aeolian sediments, developed on a substratum characterised by varied palaeorelief and lithology. Sediments, which fill the valley, have variable thickness (10-100 m) and a non-flattened bottom gradient line, which indicates the possibility of water flow under hydrostatic pressure in a tunnel valley. Several segments of the channel cut into the Quaternary background. The filling consists mostly of glaciofluvial shallow braided rivers with average to low flow energy. In sedimentological terms, the deposits show significant similarity to the material of glaciofluvial kames found in the Łódź region. The authors believe there is a link between the accumulation in the tunnel valley and a particular variety of areal deglaciation, which was responsible for the formation of the fairly unvarying glacial relief. In outcrops in Łaznowska Wola, including the ones located in a hill that had been previously interpreted as an esker, some intrusive diapiric structures were documented, which reached the land surface. Thesefolded and locally disjunctive disturbances provide evidence for deformational origin of the hill.
