Opis:
KGHM Cuprum Sp. z o.o. CBR uczestniczy w realizacji europejskiego projektu PROMINE. W jego ramach realizowanych jest siedem pakietów tematycznych. Pakiet WP1 dotyczy złóż surowców mineralnych i koncentracji antropogenicznych w Polsce, szczególnym uwzględnieniem złóż rud metali. Przewiduje się stworzenie ogólnoeuropejskiego systemu baz danych geologicznych dotyczących informacji o zasobach mineralnych, obejmując ocenę wartości istniejących i potencjalnych zasobów. Dodatkowo, baza obejmuje koncentracje antropogeniczne, mogące stanowić w przyszłości bazę surowcową.
European project PROMINE - nanoparticle structure products from new mineral deposits in Europe is maintained by 27 institutional and industrial European partners, Poland included. Project consists of 7 thematic packages from different science arts. In scope of Work Package I there are plans to create wide-European database system for geological purposes gathering information about mineral deposits with evaluation of current andpotential deposits. Additionally database embodies anthropogenic concentrations which may create material's base in a future. Using database tools allows forgathering information about mineral occurrences, both metallic and non-metallic in whole area of European Union. Designated project participants realize this task for their respective countries. KGHM Cuprum ltd. contribution to Work Package 1 deals with mineral deposits and anthropogenic concentrations in Poland, with a special focus on metallic ore deposits. Any data is added and updated into relational database based on modern system developed by BRGM (French Geological Survey), which also leads WP1. System benefits are intuitive and clear data-base interface allows entering, modifying and updating data. Database contents is fully integrated with European deposits and anthropogenic concentrations database system.

Opis:
Fluctuations in suspended sediment concentration (SSC) has been investigated in the Warta River(western Poland), based on data obtained for the period 1961-1980 from three gauge stations located in upstream, middle-stream and downstream areas. Over the two decades, the SSC values demonstrated wide fluctuations and an overall increase at each gauge station. No significant correlation was generally observed between SSC and discharge but high SSC was found to follow low discharge and increasing temperature during the summer seasons in some years. Measurements of SSC and discharge were used to estimate total annual suspended sediment load (SSL). SSL values were found to increase downstream along with an increase in discharge. SSC decreases along the river course. However, when it comes to changes over time, SSL variability was mainly determined by SSC changes. The maximum SSC values were primary caused by anthropogenic factors: the disposal of mine wastewater upstream, river training works, increased urbanisation and the intensification of sewage disposal. Where the river catchment has been greatly affected by anthropogenic factors, a denudation index calculated solely based on SSC and discharge does not appear to reflect the actual denudation rate, and must be treated with caution.

Opis:
The paper characterises total concentrations of Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn in the surface layers (0-20 cm) of agricultural soils in Poland (48620 soils samples) and Lublin region (3829 soil samples). The results for Lublin region are expressed in terms of the degree of metal pollution as compared to contamination in the rest of the country. The average concentration of Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn (in mg kg-1 of soil) in the A horizon of agricultural soils in Poland and in Lublin region (values in parenthesis) are as follows: 0.21 (0.17); 6.5 (4.9); 6.2 (6.6); 13.6 (10.7); 32.4 (23.3). About 79% of the agricultural soils in Poland are characterised by a natural (0°) content of heavy metals while 17.6% contain elevated level (10) of these metals. In the Lublin region it is 91.9% and 6.7%, respectively. About 3% of the Polish soils (1.4% in the Lublin region) exhibit various degrees of contamination with heavy metals. This includes heavy (IV0) and very heavy pollution (V0) which is found in up to 0.4% of the agricultural land and up to 0.2% in the Lublin region.

Opis:
The objective of the study was to evaluate zinc and lead contamination in the upper, organic layer of the soil around zinc and lead smelting plant KGH "Bolesław" in Bukowno near Olkusz. The study material were samples of the upper layer (0-5 cm) of the soil collected at the distance of 10, 25, 50, 100 150, 200, 250 m, and further from each of the 250 m up to 3 000 m sections in 8 directions: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. The most contaminated soil samples were found at the distance of up to about 1 000 m from the subject plant. The most polluted is the NE and SW area. Pollution of the NE area is related to wind direction. The SW area could be a zinc and lead ore outcrop, or else, it was contaminated when used as a dumping ground for the waste from the plant in the past. Heavy pollution of this area with zinc and lead could cause serious damage to living organisms in the area close to the plant.
