Opis:
The article is intended to demonstrate selected motifs and themes of Emily Dickinson’s work which is a separate phenomenon in the poetry of the second half of nineteenth century. The poet’s work referring to timeless sense of human existence became a challenge for the Polish poet - Ludmiła Marjańska - who had ventured to translate it and was carrying on with the task throughout the years. Ludmiła Marjańska and Emily Dickinson were connected through richness of their inner lives. Each of the poets is an extraordinary individuality. Their works prove enormous joy of life and fondness of nature. They both deal with existential matters. Emily Dickinson considered the question of the way of existence - not only her own but of each individual - and her place in the world. She expressed it in her works. This paper is a brief introduction to Emily Dickinson and Ludmiła Marjańska and an analysis of selected poems by Dickinson with a bird motif, encumbered with diversified functions. This bird is a sign of joy, hope, reflection, but it also has a self-creative function. Further part of this paper presents some oneiric space as a poetic method employed in Emily Dickinson’s poems. Sleep in the poet’s works is multifaceted. The sleep motif combines the real and eternal worlds. Poetic translations by Ludmiła Marjańska evoke the spirit of the original. The poet believed that a good translation requires adequate preparation and an intuitive approach. In her translations of Emily Dickinson’s poems, the poet attempts to reflect the sound of a given piece of work in Polish. A poem read in an original language version sounds differently, and no translation is capable of exactly reflecting its content in a foreign language, but it may bring it closer.

subjective
objective and intrinsic existence
Opis:
Karl Jaspers' ontology distinguishes between three formalized views on human being: a) objective being, b) subjective being, c) being in itself. In the alternative terminology, the three index fields of being are the world, man and transcendence. The world stands for objective being in the sense of empirical reality. This objective being is not given to the man directly but with the help of some subject, thanks to which he can discover what is different from him in an act of cognition. Any object, then, is an empirical reality given through presentation. And, an overall definition of the object's equivalent in an act of cognition stands for subjective being. Dasein, consciousness as such, a spirit in the psychological, rational or spiritual aspect, respectively, can be such subjective being. Subjective being is singled out by selfknowledge, that is being for oneself in the sense of self-consciousness. Following phenomenological message, Jaspers notices that consciousness has intentional specificity and that it is filled up with objective content. One consciously directs his attention towards objects, turns towards them intentionally. It is the only relation of this kind, incomparable with any connection between objects. Hence this kind of being needs to remain detailed for one cannot derive any subject's scientific view from the objective world. Anything that is an object, in turn, in the sense of the world, always appears as an equivalent of the subject's cognitive reason. Jaspers, finding support in Kant's statements, whom he regards as the greatest of all philosophers, assumes that any cognition exists, out of necessity, in the form of division into a subject and object as well as depends on their mutual correlation. This, as a matter of fact, is a kind of pre-phenomenon and irreducible structure. Jaspers defines the rule of cognition which states that the man cognizes everything with the help of consciousness as ”the foundation of immanence”. Anything that lasts for people as cognizing subjects, at the same time, has to come into being on the consciousness plane. It also needs to take on the object form, that is appear within the boundaries of the basic division into a subject and object. The rule of immanence links various forms of existence but does not create any superior class of being which would join them into a whole. The outcome of this formal analysis of notions can be the statement that: being is unrecognizable; we deal with existence forms but there is no superior category of being which would bond them together: being is torn – this is Jaspers' fundamental thesis. It can be noticed that he accepts unquestioningly the theses of Kant's transcendental idealism, inevitably connected with phenomenalism: objective reality, available to us in cognition, is just an event, not being itself. The notion of transcendence in this aspect is a logical complement of theoretical and cognitive deliberations, an equivalent of Kant's thing in itself. An essential novelty, which determines the originality of Jaspers' philosophy, is about defining the ways leading to such absolute being. The rule of immanence draws the condition of human thinking on the basis of which human individual is, as a subject, simultaneously alienated from being. Let me add that this is the price which consciousness pays for such a rule which comes into being when the man breaks off his unreflective tie of identification with the world and starts to distinguish subject from object. The bereavement from the world itself taking place pursuant to thinking, which gives rise to subjectivity – Jaspers defines with the help of the word ”breakthrough”. Such breakthrough is identical with human being while in myths it is presented as the original sin.

Thesis. The aim of the paper is to interpret Kierkegaard's concept of repetition as a way of creating and experiencing authentic existence in an environment that is set up to repeat this same, inauthentic content of consciousness. Concept. Repetition is associated with determinism and represents social stagnation. Repetition creates the conditions for an inauthentic existence. The article offers an interpretation of Kierkegaard's concept of repetition, which is the repetition of another and produces authentic existence. Results and conclusions. Repetition automatically produces of the same. The repetition of one's choice of oneself is a process of creating spirit and individuality, which is a fundamental principle of authentic existence. Creating an authentic personality is one of the ways to solve the current crisis in society, which is associated with an inauthentic experience of existence, abdication of responsibility and repetition of lies. Cognitive value. The postmodern society associated with the use of the media is not the cause of social disorientation. It is a means that an individual uses to repeat the same. The social environment and magic themselves are not negative, the negative is the inauthentic attitude of a person to them.

The presented article will analyze the anthropological and cognitive aspects of Augustine's doctrine in the context of existential philosophy. Augustine’s doctrine depicts a human being as a well-ordered structure that brings together various distinct strands. Among them, one cannot ignore the subject of bottom-up approach to anthropology, or the author's stance on transcendence. The following article is to discuss the main aspects of experience in human being, which are part of the subject of existential philosophy. Augustine’s conception could be called anthropology of the thinking subject, as all our emotions tend to be conditioned through the prism of what is happening here and now. The similarity of his views with the existential movement lies in the fact that both trends focus on an individual going through a crisis. From a philosophical point of view, Augustine concentrates on the analysis our existence in conjunction with the issues of evanescence. The relevance of his doctrine results from the fact that the author demonstrates the positive aspects of human being, which comes from metaphysical source, that is, from God who is its fullness and model in a completely unconditioned way.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present an evolution of views of Thomas of Sutton concerning the problem of essence and existence, and also to trace the impact of views of Giles of Rome on this issue. Based on selected works of Thomas of Sutton, this text outlines the problem of the difference between essence and existence, especially in opposition to the views of Godfrey of Fontaines, who identified the existence of being with the act of its creation. Moreover, Thomas of Sutton should be considered one of the most faithful disciples of St. Thomas Aquinas. Although Thomas of Sutton used the language of Giles of Rome, he accurately grasped the idea of Thomas Aquinas. It therefore becomes clear that the dispute, which arose between Thomas of Sutton and Godfrey of Fontaines over proper description of existence and creation, was a consequence of their different understanding of essence and existence in created beings.

The paper presents relation and similarities between two existential authors: Kierkegaard and Shestov. The works of these two philosophers rises from the concern about the situation of a modern man. Kierkegaard in his famous conception of three types of existence gives a vivid picture of dangers which await for a human being. Shestov sees the danger for authenticity of the human being in higher and higher development of the idea of ratio in his days. The reason force human existence to be his only and one God. But for these two existential philosophers a man needs to be free – which means to be conscious and to choose with knowing consequences. Thus they call – paradoxically – sola fi de in order to oppose against those – in their opinion – demonical forces which make existence miserable.

Tadeusz Klimski studied three ancient and medieval authors: Saint Augustine, Johannes Scotus Eriugena and Honorius of Autun, and devoted them his publications in „Studia Philosophiae Christianae”. He studied in their texts the issues of truth, proceeded from Aristotle who defined philosophy as „the knowledge of the truth”. According to T. Klimski, knowability of truth was by St. Augustine radically dependent on God, and in the philosophy of Eriugena truth was equated directly with him. Honorius of Autun in his works connected the truth with the essence of things, however, he has not seen existential aspect resulting from the definition of God as semper esse. According to T. Klimski, these philosophers, because they were neoplatonists they haven’t come to the truth with existence, with esse, as something most fundamental for the understanding of being.
