    The paper contains the analysis of a fragment of a seventeenth-century monument – a prayer book written by a nun-Carmelite. The selected part: Obiecadło duchowne... is a certain entity, and it stands out from the whole monument due to its form – Abecedarius. The article presents pragmalinguistic view on this text. From the described aspects, one can list: what the analyzed passage says about the sender and the recipient, what was the communication goal of the writer, what type of speech acts the text represents, what functionalities it includes, as well as how the text was formed in terms of language.

    В данной статье ставится задача понять роль и значение рождественской и пасхальной тематики в рассказах русской писательницы-эмигрантки первой волны Надежды Городецкой (1901-1985). Анализ показывает: проза Городецкой свидетельствует о том, что, благодаря «вписанности» судеб самых обычных людей в контекст библейской истории, они «оправдываются» своей причастностью к этой истории. 
    Celem tego artykułu jest zrozumienie roli i znaczenia odkrytych w opowiadaniach rosyjskiej pisarki emigracyjnej pierwszej fali Nadieżdy Horodeckiej (1901–1985) tematów bożonarodzeniowych i wielkanocnych. Analiza przekonuje, że proza Horodeckiej zaświadcza o tym, iż dzięki «wpisaniu» losów najzwyklejszych ludzi w kontekst historii biblijnej stają się oni «usprawiedliwieni» swoim zaangażowaniem w tę historię.
    The purpose of this article is to understand the role and meaning of the Christmas and Easter themes found in the stories of the Russian first wave émigré writer Nadezhda Gorodetskaya (1901-1985). The analysis shows that Gorodetskaya’s prose testifies to the fact that, thanks to the “inscribing” of the fate of the most ordinary of people in the context of biblical history, they become “justified” by their involvement in this same history.

    Like other prophetic texts, the Book of Zephaniah enjoyed popularity andrecognition by the members of the Qumran community. This is testified toby five biblical manuscripts of that book, four in Hebrew (4Q77-78, 4Q82,Mur 88) and one in Greek (8Hev 1), quotations in the Rule of the Community(1QS 5:11 = Zeph 1:6) and in the Exposition on the Patriarchs (4Q464 frg. 4,col. 3, line 9 = Zeph 3:9), direct allusions in the Rule of the Community(1QS 10:22; par. 4Q260 frg. 1, col. 3, line 3 = Zeph 3:13), allusions in theThanksgiving Scroll (1QH 13:32 and 17:6 = Zeph 1:15), in the Paraphraseof the Books of the Kings (4Q382 frg. 9, line 4 = Zeph 1:5), in the Wordsof the Lights (4Q504 frg. 1-2, col. 5, lines 5-6 = Zeph 1:18; 3:6.8), as well asby its existence in the form of two scrolls as the Pesher Zephaniah (1Q15;4Q170). Even though the extant texts of the Pesher Zephaniah are highlyfragmentary and do not have much content, the very fact of their existenceproves that the biblical Book of Zephaniah was the subject of intense studiescarried out by the members of the community, and that its text served asa source of commentary.

    Opis:
    The article concerns an Old Polish matins to the Holy Mary from the 17th century, which were created as a sung prayer, especially for laics. Its composition is similar to the breviary office of the Catholic Church, whereas the versification is based on prominent poetry examples from the Polish Renaissance (Jan Kochanowski, Mikołaj Sęp Szarzyński et al.). The author states that this form of prayer was attacked or even ridiculed in the times of reformation and counter-reformation by Protestant writers. Thanks to philological analysis of every distich – with consideration of the European background – the author shows intense and direct relations of the text to the Bible in Renaissance translations (priest Jakub Wujek, the Gdańsk Bible) and sometimes also to Marian apocryphic texts. A crucial role is played here by the symbolism of numbers (especially 7, 3, 1) and the semantic differences in many lexemes and language forms of the virtually 16th century Polish, if compared with contemporary Polish. A full concretization of this poetic cycle becomes visible when the text is sung first – hence the musical and prosodic aspects of the Little Office: its melodic line, physiological effects as the deepening and regularity of the breath have been considered. This is the way the prayer influences the human body, it opens and purifies the spiritual space for the influence of God’s grace. The author localized the prayer within the daily cycle of Old Polish and contemporary civilization, he pointed out the radical changes in life habits within the last century and an evolution of folk spirituality. The Little Office also has its place in the weekly cycle whereby every part is assigned to one specific day of the week. During the philological and prosodic analysis potential performers of the Little Office in Old Poland from the circles of peasants and craftsmen were named. The text has been well acquired in the community for twenty generations – the Little Office is often sung from memory exclusively. Because of the sociological changes it pervaded, thanks to the Roman-Catholic liturgy, into the contemporary urban ceremonial. 1
