Opis:
The paper covers the research on the process of solutionizing of 7075 aluminum alloy in cold tools during the stamping of a high-strength structural element (B-pillar’s base). For technological reasons, in order to obtain high strength parameters of the 7075 alloy, it is necessary to carry out a solutionization process, which allows to obtain dispersion strengthening during ageing process. Properly performed heat treatment of the alloy increases the strength of the material to approx. 600 MPa. The combination of the process of solutionization with simultaneous shaping is aimed at improving and simplifying technological operations of aluminum alloy stamping, shortening the duration of the manufacturing process and reducing production costs. The manufactured lower part of the B-pillar will be used for the verification of the validity of the developed method. During the experiment, a series of stamping tests were carried out, in which the lubricants, pressure and position of the upper and lower blankholders were the variables. The obtained results allow to estimate the influence of the cooling conditions on the strength of the drawpieces obtained after the process of artificial ageing. In order to verify and analyse the results more quickly, a numerical simulation was carried out.

In modern machining industry, the use of computer software is an integral element in the design of technological processes. This work aims to present possibilities for optimization of milling operations with the use of commercial software designed especially for that use. A face milling operation of an aluminium flange was chosen for this study. Several different optimization strategies were described and their results shown, analysed and discussed. The effect of variable radial depth of cut on cutting force values in milling processes was reflected upon. Additionally, further research involving comparison of experiment results with simulation was proposed. It was proven that correct optimization strategy can reduce machining time for the analysed face milling operation about 37% without exceeding imposed process parameter constraints.

Opis:
The article presents the research results on the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 7020 and its MIG welded joints. For comparison alloy 5083 - the most currently used in shipbuilding alloy was chosen as well as 5059 -the new high-strength alloy. Besides the native material alloys there were investigated their joints welded by MIG -the same method as alloy 7020. Welding parameters used for the connection of the sheets made of 7020, 5083 and 5059 alloys were presented. Metallographic analysis showed the correct construction of structural bonded joints. The arc welding method - MIG is the most common method of joining aluminum alloys used in shipbuilding. It replaces the TIG method of providing equally high quality of joints with a much higher performance. The research was carried out using a static tensile test in accordance with the requirements of the Polish Standard PN-EN 10002:2004. Flat samples cut perpendicular to the direction of rolling were used. The research was conducted at the temperature of + 20 centigrade. The 7020 alloy has higher strength properties then alloys: 5083 and 5059. The yield stress is higher by 14.8% compared to 5083 alloy, and by 11.7% compared to the alloy 5059. Plastic properties of an alloy 7020 are the lowest, but with reserves meet the requirements of classification societies. The joints welded by MIG of 7020 alloy have higher strength properties then joints of alloys: 5083 and 5059. Plastic properties of alloy 7020 compared to 5083 alloy are smaller and at the same level as the connector alloy 5059.

CNT has been researched significantly due to its properties especially mechanical and conductivity properties. Due to strong affinity between particles, dispersion has been remained a problem for its applications. Ultrasonication technique was used to disperse CNT on aluminum powder. Ultrasonication has successfully dispersed CNT on aluminum powder in ethanol. Low energy ball milling for 1h under argon gas with 5:1 ball to powder ratio was used to optimize dispersion of CNT on aluminum. CNT concentration in this research is ranged from 0.1 up to 3wt%. Premix Al-5.5Zn-2.5Mg-0.5Cu powder was used as matrix for this research. Sintering at 580°C for 1h under argon gas was carried to produce high density materials. Pores are still remained on material and it is possibility that pores were caused by agglomeration of CNT. Dispersion high content of CNT is still remained obstacle on this research. Aluminum carbide, Al4C3 is recognized as a ‘bridge between aluminum and CNT for stress transfer was investigated in this research. Raman Spectroscopy, XRD and SEM-EDS were carried out to characterize materials.

Opis:
Rapid technological progress in recent years has led to an intensified interest in alternative methods of joining metals. Today’s industry is constantly demanding new joining processes, which enable high-quality welded joints in a wide range of thicknesses of combined materials at low production cost. There are at least several dozen welding methods currently available. The selection of the process depends on the type of welded materials, acceptable heat input, as well as future working conditions. The paper presents the results of the microstructural examination and mechanical properties of joints of the aluminum alloy for plastic working such as EN AW-6082. The paper presents the results of microstructural observations and mechanical properties of EN AW-6082 aluminum alloy. Methods used for joining were successively TIG (welding with a non-consumable electrode in a shield of inert gases), MIG (welding with a consumable electrode in a shield of inert gases), EBW (electron beam welding) along with FSW (friction stir welding method). TIG (welding with a non-consumable electrode in a shield of inert gases), MIG (welding with a consumable electrode in a shield of inert gases), EBW (electron beam welding) along with FSW (friction stir welding method) were used as joining techniques.
Współczesny przemysł wymaga opracowania i udoskonalania metod, które umożliwiają uzyskanie wysokiej jakości połączeń w szerokim zakresie grubości łączonych materiałów oraz obniżenie kosztu produkcji. Istnieje kilkadziesiąt metod spawania. Proces ten trzeba dostosować do rodzaju spajanych materiałów, dostępnych źródeł energii, a także do przyszłych warunków pracy urządzeń. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań łączenia najpopularniejszego stopu do przeróbki plastycznej, jakim jest stop EN AW-6082. Metodami wykorzystanymi do łączenia były zarówno najbardziej popularne techniki spawania: TIG (spawanie elektrodą nietopliwą w osłonie gazów obojętnych), MIG (spawanie elektrodą topliwą w osłonie gazów obojętnych), metoda wysokoenergetyczna EBW (spawanie wiązką elektronową), jak również metoda zgrzewania tarciowego z mieszaniem materiały zgrzeiny – FSW.

Opis:
Friction stir welding was applied to join dissimilar aluminum alloys: wrought 2017A and cast AlSi9Mg. The produced weldment was free from cracks and any discontinuities. The weld microstructure was composed of alternating bands of the welded alloys; however, the alloy that was placed on the advancing side (AlSi9Mg) dominated the weld center. The grain size within the particular bands was similar in both alloys. The hardness profile reflected the microstructure formed during welding. The weld microstructure as well as the shape of hardness profile across the weld were justified by numerical simulation of material flow during welding.

Opis:
The work was done as apart of the IMPERJA Eureka Project. The goal of the IMPERJA project is to increase the fatigue life of riveted joints, which will lead to an increase of the aircraft service life, a smaller number of inspections and lower operation costs of an aircraft. The consortium intends to meet this goal by investigating and improving the riveting process as well as improving the prediction methods for fatigue life. Riveting is the most commonly used method of joining sheet metal components of the aircraft structure. Typically, the number of rivets ranges from several thousands to some millions in a single aircraft depending on the specific aircraft type and size. The riveted joints are critical areas of the aircraft structure due to severe stress concentrations and effects such as fretting and secondary bending. Therefore the fatigue crack initiation will start at the rivets holes. Fatigue crack initiation usually occurs at a number of rivet holes (multiple site damage), which may lead to widespread fatigue damage and reduced residual strength. Although the literature on the fatigue behaviour of riveted joints is quite abundant, many aspects are still not sufficiently understood and investigated and, therefore, they require a further study. The work contains the results of stress measurements obtained with X-ray diffractometer. The aim of the work was to determine the stress values after different kinds of treatment, to check what are the limits of the x-ray measurement for aluminum alloys and to obtain the most suitable measurement parameters for this kind of alloy. There were 5 kinds of specimens: -specimen no. l - technically pure aluminum, specimen annealed in temperature 300° C for l hour, -specimen no. 2 - technically pure aluminum, raw state without any additional treatment, -    -specimen no. 3 - technically pure aluminum, squeezed perpendicularly to the axis direction, force: l00 kN, longitudinal intersection, specimen no. 4 - technically pure aluminum, squeezed perpendicularly to the axis direction, force: 100 kN, transverse intersection, specimen no. 5 - PA24 alloy, 05 bar, squeezed along the axis of the rod, force: l3,9 kN, longitudinal intersection. The second part of the work contains the measurements of the stress distribution around the rivets. The specimen prepared to realize this kind of measurements had four areas. The rivets on every area were riveted with the different riveting force: 1.2 kN; 1.4 kN; 1.5 kN and 1.55 kN.

Modern metal forming processes of non-ferrous metals, particularly aluminum and its alloys, are increasingly based on integrated technologies combining numerous operations in one process line. The subject of this paper focuses on the possibility of using materials after mould casting (simulating a continuous casting process between cylindrical crystallizers - Twin Roll Casting method) for the direct cold rolling process. As a part of this research a pilotage study on metallurgical synthesis and mould casting process of Al-Mg alloys with the magnesium contents of 5%-10%, testing their mechanical, electrical and structural properties as well as susceptibility to cold plastic deformation. This process was carried out with the measurement of strength parameters and confirmed the possibility of cold rolling alloys with a casting structure without prior hot deformation.

Opis:
Due to the high demand for secondary alloys in the automotive and aerospace industry, this work investigates the effect of higher iron content on the quality of AlSi7Mg0.6 sand castings. Secondary-recycled Al-Si alloys contain an increased amount of impurities due to their remelting of scrap metal. One of the most unwanted impurities found in these alloys is iron. Iron leads to the formation of various Fe-rich intermetallic phases, whose morphology influences the mechanical properties even at low Fe content. It also promotes the formation of casting defects, such as porosity and shrinkage. The formation of porosity in secondary Al-alloys is another major aspect that can affect the final properties of castings. Since these materials are mainly used to produce castings for the automotive industry, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, and so on, it is necessary to produce castings without any defects. Therefore, the quality of AlSi7Mg0.6 sand casting is investigated at lower iron content (0.128% wt. Fe) and compared to the higher iron content (0.429% wt. Fe), whereby a correlation between iron content and porosity is monitored.

The aim of the study was to analyze the effects of the ultrasonic vibrations applied to the melted metal pool by a vibrating substrate which in our experiments was a waveguide. The interactions of the ultrasonic vibrations with the molten metal during its solidification and also with the heat-affected zone were examined at various phases of the vibration wave. The ultrasonic vibrations affected the structure of a weld. These changes are strongly depended on the wave phase.
