Opis:
The objectives of present work focuses to check the acute and sub acute toxicity studies for the Achyranthes aspera L methanol extract as per OECD guideline in Swiss mice. The dose of 100, 200, 250 gm/kg body weight methanol extract by administering drug intraperitoneally and recorded the growth, body weight, organ weight, general symptoms, morphological and physiological behavior, mortality. These parameters on various organs system in mice were studied. It was considered necessary to assess its potential health hazard in man and to find the safe and effective dose. The observations of changes in body weight, food and water intake as well as cage side observations were reported. There was no abnormality observed in all groups. The whole plant powder methanol extract of Achyranthes Aspera L were found to be nontoxic.

Opis:
This study was carried out to show the effect of the protein extract of Mangifera indica on the red blood cell (erythrocytes) of albino rats. The Mangifera protein was extracted using 500ml of 0.02m (20mM) phosphate- buffered saline (PBS), at pH 7.4, in a large beaker (stirred with a magnetic stirrer for 3 hours at room temperature). The crude extract was saturated to 60% by adding solid ammonium sulphate under constant gentle attiring, and then stored in a refrigerator for 6 hours. Sixteen male albino rats obtained from animal house in Faculty of Biological Science, University of Nigeria Nsukka was used for the study. They were divided into two groups of eight. One group was labeled the experimental group and the other control. The extract was administered to the experimental rats intra nasally for a period of seven (7) days. Data were expressed as mean ± standard error. Means were separated using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT). Blood samples were collected via the orbital plexus of rats to determine the effect of the extract on red blood cell (erythrocytes). The present study demonstrated that the extracted pollen of Mangifera indica had no allergic effect on ratsand so would need to be further investigated.

Opis:
The albino Wistar rats were used to investigate the effect of thyroxine administration on the activity of citric acid, α-Amylase, creatine phosphokinase (CPK), creatinine, cholesterol and triglycerides level in blood serum and citric acid in liver and kidney. Two groups of rats were taken for the experiment. One group was injected subcutaneously with 200 μl of thyroxine/50 g of body weight, the other group served as control. The animals were vivisected with anesthesia after intervals of 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours α-Amylase and CPK levels in blood; citric acid level in liver and kidney of control and thyroxine treated rats. The results showed that the α-Amylase activity remained unaltered (100 g/h/l) throughout the experiment. However, citric acid level found to be 460 mg in the liver and 415 mg in kidney of control rats. The values slightly increased to 480 and 680 mg in respective tissues of thyroxine treated animals for 24 hr. The values decreased in 48 and 72 hours of treatment. Further the values found to be increased after 96 hours of treatment. Although the thyroxine treatment altered citric acid, Creatinine, Cholesterol, Triglycerides and CPK levels in the tissues, the serum α-Amylase was not influenced by the thyroxine. The study suggests that the thyroxine acts as a regulator all the above parameters in the cellular level.
