Opis:
The aim of this article is to identify the importance of benchmarking as a source of innovation in the activities of tourism enterprises through the case study of LOT S.A. Polish Airlines. To expand, the objective was to identify the departments within the company which used benchmarking as a stimulus to create a new or improve an existing offer. The subject was an airline belonging to Star Alliance and 27 employees from selected departments. The study used questionnaires and. with managers of selected departments only, open standardized interviews. Statistical inference methods, including a chi-square test, were applied to analyse the data. Although the introduction of benchmarking in the company's structure allows for a quick escape route from a cycle of limitation in the company’s own culture and standard behaviour (and the acquisition of knowledge during the process gives rise to new and innovative ideas) the importance of this method in innovative activities did not result in any practical application. A lack of knowledge about benchmarking was noticeable, and an identification of this method with a simple competitive analysis resulted in failures in business activity as well as a lack of creativity in its application.

Opis:
Aim: The purpose of this article is to present the latest advances in big data applications in the industries of the transportation sector such as airline, highway, and railway. It is difficult to analyze data in transportation because there is continuous real-time data flow. Since the improvements made are fast with the same logic, it is necessary to catch up with the new developments. Data should be analyzed with the big data concept because data stacks highly contain non-structural data types in transportation data. Although the mentioned industries are complementary to each other, the applications differ depending on the needs of the industry. Thus, solutions to specific problems in different industries using big data applications should be addressed. Design / Research methods: In accordance with the purpose of the study, big data studies that provide added value to the transportation sector were examined. Studies have been filtered through some criteria which are whether the application is adaptable to the industry, the study is available online in full-text, and its references are from respectable sources.   Conclusions / findings: All the big data application studies in the academy are not adaptable in real-life problems or suitable for all situations. For this reason, trying all of the applications will lead to moral and material losses for firms. This study is a guideline for companies to follow the developments in the big data concept and to choose the one that suits their problems. Thus, the gap between academia and industry was tried to close. Originality / value of the article: Although studies are referring to big data applications in the transportation sector, this study differs from others in terms of specifically analyzing big data applications in different industries such as airline, highway, and railway in the transportation sector

This study aims to evaluate service quality performance of major LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) in Europe by the MCDM (Multi-Criteria Decision Making) methodology. In addition it focuses on managerial business models and includes the international airline service providers that have applied the cost leadership strategy. In the study passenger reviews based on customer-rating systems are adopted as an alternative data source. For this purpose 24,971 passenger reviews, including 7 evaluation criteria, are analyzed. In this integrated methodology the Entropy method is used to weight the service quality criteria and the WASPAS method is used to rank the airlines. A sensitivity analysis is also applied and the robustness and stability of the application are confirmed. Consequently Jet2.com demonstrates the best service performance overall and legroom is the most important evaluation criterion.

Opis:
This article presents a model and an algorithm for identifying, collecting, processing, analyzing and using data on risks at an airline (deviations from the standards in the activities of various airline units and personnel) to minimize them and thereby to achieve an acceptable level of flight safety. A methodology is also presented for formulating the composition of flight safety indicators, based on an expert approach, for the units and personnel of the airline, making decisions in this field in various areas of its activities. The model is based on the quality and flight safety systems that form part of an integrated management system at one of Latvia’s airlines. The system makes it possible to analyze safety aspects on the basis of actual information drawn from various sources into the airline’s information base, where it is collected, classified, stored and analyzed.

Opis:
Polish air transport is an important component of both the European and global transport services market. Enterprises and institutions responsible for its development should be conducive to shaping the most competitive position of entities of the air transport market. In Polish airports and branch infrastructural investments, balanced and sustainable development should be taken into account, determining the level of quality of services provided and access to the market. These aspects are highlighted in the strategy for the development of regional airports, whose task is also to stimulate the mobility of people and their transport activities. Air transport, although it is a relatively young form of transport, the history of which goes back over a hundred years back, is nowadays a very important element of the global economy. In the last decades the air passenger transport was treated as an elite one. It has now become very common and has contributed to the mobility of people in many regions of the world. More and more often, not only global companies or corporations are talked about, but also referring to the ease of moving, taking up work or studying in different parts of the world, away from the home country, people choose most often the air transportation.

Opis:
Passenger traffic at airports is characterised by fluctuations resulting from the influence of several factors. The influence of each factor is different, leading to unpredictable passenger traffic patterns that make planning difficult. Previous studies used geographic, demographic, and economic variables as exploratory factors to examine air travel demand. The study explores several variables to confirm airports and airlines’ characteristics as demand factors for domestic air travel in Nigeria. Data for the study were collected by administering a questionnaire to respondents at major domestic airports in Nigeria. The variables were presented in the 5-point Likert Scale for respondents to rank in order of significance. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA) were employed to identify the significant factors affecting passenger traffic at domestic airports in Nigeria. EFA reduced fifteen variables to four orthogonal factors influencing passenger traffic at domestic airports. CFA validates airport and airline services, demographics, economic factors, and airport size and facilities as significant factors affecting passenger traffic at domestic airports in Nigeria. The model fit test shows CMIN/DF = 2.263; CFI = 0.940; GFI = 0.929; NFI = 0.901; and RMSEA = 0.078. The result identifies airport and airline characteristics as factors influencing passenger traffic at the domestic airport in any country. It implies that airport and airline characteristics significantly influence domestic air traffic and needs to be included in modelling. Identifying airport and airline characteristics as air travel determinants make this study unique for policy decisions to forecast domestic passenger traffic in a country.

Opis:
Advertising, sales promotion, personal selling and public relation are some of the most important elements used in promotion. Airline promotional activity need to be adapted to the demand on the market. The most suitable advertising option for airline business will depend on target audience and what is the most cost effective way to reach as many of them as possible, as many times as possible. The advertising option chosen should also reflect the right environment for the product or service. The promotion policy helps the company keep control of the message it is sending about the good or service, as well as to dictate appropriate actions that employees can take when dealing with outside personnel. Promotion is one of the key elements of the marketing mix, and deals with any one or two-way communication that takes place with the consumer. The purpose of the article is to clarify what is difference between promotion and marketing activities and has to serve as a part of future prepared study material for students of University of Žilina.
Reklama, upusty, sprzedaż osobista i public relation należą do najważniejszych elementów stosowanych w promocji.
