    Opis:
    This article presents problems in agrarian transformations, especially related to the number and area structure of farms in Poland before accession into the European Union. It presents consecutive stages of agrarian transformations in the territory of Poland, starting from the period of partitions at the beginning of 20th century, till economic transformation and integration of Poland into the European Union. In historical perspective, it may be stated that there is a close relationship between agrarian transformations, and the level of economic development and socio-political system in our country. These relations are bilateral in nature, i.e. they are interdependent. Agrarian transformations observed after 2004 are evident, however, they did not bring Poland any closer to the level of leading EU Member States.
    W opracowaniu przedstawiono problematykę przemian agrarnych, zwłaszcza zmian w liczbie i strukturze obszarowej gospodarstw w Polsce przed akcesją z Unią Europejską. Ukazano kolejne etapy przemian agrarnych na ziemiach polskich, od okresu zaborów na początku XX wieku, aż do transformacji gospodarczej oraz integracji Polski z Unią Europejską. Z perspektywy historycznej można stwierdzić, że istnieje ścisły związek między przemianami agrarnymi, a poziomem rozwoju gospodarczego oraz systemem społeczno-politycznym naszego kraju. Powiązania te mają charakter zwrotny, to znaczy są współzależne. Zaobserwowane zmiany agrarne po 2004 roku są widoczne, jednakże nie spowodowały w znaczącym stopniu przybliżenia Polski do poziomu czołowych krajów UE.

    Opis:
    The comprehensive support offered by the rural policy is an extremely important element of public support, which should be continued in order to achieve sustainable development, enabling the maintenance of rural life, while contributing to the competitiveness of the agricultural sector. It is necessary also to stress that the Polish, like other new member countries, rural development policy, in addition to cohesion policy – is and will remain a key element in the process of development and catching-up countries of the old „fifteen”. Rural Development Programme for the years 2007–2013 has aroused great interest among farmers and rural people, contributing substantially to support the competitiveness of Polish agriculture, environment and quality of life in rural areas. Therefore, Poland should strive to many elements of this support was continued in the coming years.
    W pracy podjęto próbę oceny wpływu wybranych programów Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej na przemiany agrarne w Polsce. Analizę przeprowadzono w oparciu o dostępną literaturę, opracowania wewnętrzne i opracowania własne. Zaprezentowane wyniki świadczą o znacznym wpływie WPR na kształtowanie struktury agrarnej, szczególnie tam, gdzie widoczne jest wzmacniające zróżnicowanie sytuacji ekonomicznej gospodarstw.

    The author of this essay argues that, when viewed from a longer time perspective, four major processes have been taking place in the Polish countryside, changing its character, just as they have been doing in other Western and Eastern European countries: deruralization, deagrarianization, development of a new model of agriculture (peasantization/depeasantization) and restratification. These processes are changing 1) the place of the countryside in society, 2) the place of agriculture in society and the economy as well as 3) the structure of the countryside as a social subsystem. These changes have been taking place throughout the last two decades, albeit with different speeds in different segments of time. Three of these processes, deruralization, deagrarianization and restratification, are continuations of processes which were already in motion before 1989. Their dynamics do not differ from the Western and Central- Eastern European canon. A fourth,more original process can also be detected in the development of a new agrarian model, however, adjustment of the post-communist structure of agricultural production to market economy.

    Any attempt to recapitulate research findings on the countryside during the transition period should not neglect the prevailing view of the countryside in sociology. The systemic transformation in Poland did not bring a parallel transformation in thinking within sociology. The prevailing paradigm is that of modernisation, i.e. an anti-rural view which sees the countryside as an inferior sector, doomed to adapt to current trends: to communist rules before 1989 and to market economy and civil society rules at present. Numerical data for the last 60 years, reflecting the essential social and economic transformations in the countryside and agriculture, suggest a viewpoint which is different from the prevailing one. The agrarian segment has not been undergoing a transformation but, rather, desolation. The latter is a consequence of another modernisation paradox experienced by Poland after 1989, i.e. transformations effectively financed by the countryside and implemented at the expense of the country’s rural areas.

Three of them, de-ruralization, de-agrarianization and re-stratification, are continuations of processes which took place before 1989. Their dynamics does not differ from that in Western and Central-Eastern Europe. The fourth, more original process can also be detected in the development of a new agrarian model: the adjustment of the post-communist structure of agricultural production to the market economy.
    W szkicu autorka wykazuje, że w długiej perspektywie czasowej na polskiej wsi, podobnie jak w Europie Zachodniej oraz Środkowej, zachodzą cztery wielkie procesy zmieniające jej oblicze: deruralizacja, dezagraryzacja, kształtowanie się nowego modelu rolnictwa (pezantyzacja/depezantyzacja) oraz restratyfikacja. Kształtują one nowe miejsce wsi w społeczeństwie, nowe miejsce rolnictwa w społeczeństwie i gospodarce oraz nową strukturę wsi jako subsystemu społecznego. Zmiany były obserwowane w całym analizowanym dwudziestoleciu, choć w krótszych odcinkach czasu przebiegały w różnym tempie. Trzy z nich – deruralizacja, dezagraryzacja i restratyfikacja są kontynuacją procesów, które zachodziły już przed 1989 r. Występują one powszechnie zarówno w Europie Zachodniej, jak i Środkowo-Wschodniej. Pewną oryginalność można natomiast odnotować w tworzeniu się nowego modelu agrarnego, dostosowania postkomunistycznych struktur produkcyjnych rolnictwa do gospodarki rynkowej.
