    The present article seeks to analyze the way in which the blasphemous figure of God in Dolce agonia by Nancy Huston allows the author to describe the sacred element in human life, seen as deprived of transcendental character. This is possible thanks to the three aspects of the text dependent on the type of God’s figure, which are: the contrast between passages marked by the cynical God’s voice and passages focused on man’s life filled with suffering; the tone and the appropriation of time var-iations and, finally, the double character of God who, at the same time, is indifferent to man’s lot while touched by his capacity of love.

    Artykuł ukazuje zmaganie się Jezusa w Getsemani, aby mogła ostatecznie zrealizować się wola Boża. Szczególnie akcentują ten motyw Marek oraz Mateusz. W wersji Łukasza Jezus jako wzorcowy Nauczyciel jest gotowy od razu pełnić zamysł Ojca. Ukazana przez trzeciego Ewangelistę walka (avgwni,a) wyraża napięcie Jezusa, Jego emocje, aby stało się to, co przygotował dla Niego Bóg. Temat związany z modlitwą w Getsemaniznajduje swój wyraz także w Hbr 5,7-8, w kontekście kapłaństwa Jezusa, które od samego początku ściśle łączyło się z Jego ofiarą z życia. Przytoczony fragment z Listu do Hebrajczyków wykazuje różnice w interpretacji. W świetle synoptyków wydaje się jednak, że eu vla,beia – „bojaźń” powinna przyjąć odcień respektu, czci wobec woli Ojca. Jej rozpoznaniu towarzyszyło cierpienie Jezusa, które zaowocowało Jego pełnym posłuszeństwem. Wola Boża jako ostateczne kryterium decyzji znajduje swoje potwierdzenie także w pierwotnym Kościele. Wspólnota z Cezarei Nadmorskiej wyraża pragnienie jej realizacji, gdy wszystkie zabiegi zostały wyczerpane, aby powstrzymać Pawła przed zbliżającą się jego śmiercią (Dz 21,11-14). W ten sposób oddanie się woli Ojca, staje się punktem odniesienia we wszystkich okolicznościach chrześcijańskiego życia.
    The article shows Jesus’ struggle in Gethsemane for God’s will to be finally accomplished. Particularly,the Evangelists Mark and Matthew emphasize this theme. In Luke’s version, Jesus, the perfect Teacher, is ready to fulfil his Father’s plan right away. The struggle shown by the third Evangelist (avgwni,a) expresses Jesus’ strain, his emotions, to make what God had prepared for Him to happen. The theme of prayer in Gethsemane is also expressed in Hebrews 5:7-8, in the context of Jesus’ priesthood, which from the very beginning was closely related to his sacrifice of life. The quoted passage from the Letter to the Hebrews raises differences in interpretation. However, in the light of the Synoptics, it seems that eu vla,beia – “fear” should assume a shade of respect, reverence for the will of the Father. Its recognition was accompanied by the suffering of Jesus, which resulted in his full obedience. The Will of God as the ultimate criterion for the decision is also confirmed in the early Church. The community of Caesarea Martima expresses its desire to implement it when all efforts have been exhausted to prevent Paul from imminent death (Acts 21:11-14). In this way, submission to the Father’s will becomes the point of reference in all circumstances of Christian life.
