Opis:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in heart rate recovery (HRr) in trained and untrained adults, while assessing the role of physiological and emotional factors. Eighteen untrained and 21 trained participants completed a maximal exercise test and a 20-min treadmill exercise at 55–70% heart rate reserve, and emotional state was assessed prior to exercise. Multiple regression was used to assess relationships between heart rate recovery and physiological and emotional assessments. The trained group had a higher relative maximal oxygen consumption (p < 0.001), lower resting heart rate (p < 0.001), and faster short- and long-term heart rate recovery (p < 0.05) than the untrained group. Resting heart rate was the most predictive measure with HRr for the trained group (R = 0.551–0.818), whereas resting heart rate, maximal heart rate, and fitness were predictors of recovery in the untrained group (R = 0.764–0.977). The results show the predominant parasympathetic influence on HRr in the trained group, but indicates influence of fitness and exercise intensity on recovery in the untrained group. Thus, fitness appears to influence HRr in those only with low fitness. This notion may help influence the behavior of untrained individuals to improve fitness to reduce risk of mortality and morbidity.

Opis:
Objectives Rescuers work in 24-h shifts and the demanding nature of the occupation requires adequate recovery between work shifts. The purpose of this study has been to find out what kind of changes in autonomic control may be seen during work shift and its recovery period in the case of rescuers. An additional interest has been to see if aerobic fitness is associated with recovery from work shifts. Material and Methods Fourteen male rescuers (aged 34±9 years old) volunteered to participate in the study. Heart rate variability (HRV) was recorded for 96 h to study stress and recovery, from the beginning of a 24-h work shift to the beginning of the next shift. Aerobic fitness assessment included maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) estimation with a submaximal bicycle ergometer test. Salivary cortisol samples were collected 0 min, 15 min, and 30 min after awakening on the 3 resting days. Results Some HRV parameters showed enhanced autonomic control after the work shift. Stress percentage decreased from the working day to the 2nd rest day (p < 0.05). However, maximal oxygen uptake was not associated with enhanced parasympathetic cardiac control (p > 0.05). Cortisol awakening response was attenuated right after the work shift. Conclusions The HRV findings show that recovery after a long work shift takes several days. Thus, rescuers should pay attention to sufficient recovery before the next work shift, and an integrated model of perceived and physiological measurements could be beneficial to assess cardiovascular strain among rescuers with long work shifts. Opis:
Zumba shares similarities with other aerobic exercises such as dancing and cycling, as it enhances cardiovascular health and facilitates calorie burning. However, what distinguishes Zumba is its emphasis on enjoyment and the incorporation of dance movements from various music genres. This form of aerobic exercise involves sustained moderate to high-intensity activity without excessive fatigue. It strengthens the heart muscle and promotes efficient blood circulation. Furthermore, aerobics can effectively reduce blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. This positive effect is attributed to the improvement of blood vessel function, facilitating better blood flow and alleviating strain on the heart. Regular aerobic exercise also contributes to weight loss, which further aids in lowering blood pressure. Nevertheless, the impact of Zumba on VO2 max ability remains to be explored. In this study, a pre-experimental design was employed, involving one-hour Zumba sessions conducted over eight weeks, comprising approximately 12 tracks prepared by the instructor. The study sample consisted of 30 participants engaged in Zumba classes. Prior to Zumba, the Jackson non-exercise test formula was employed to assess VO2 max fitness. Post-Zumba, the 1-mile jog test formula was utilized to measure VO2 max fitness. The study findings indicate a significant increase in the mean VO2max value after treatment, compared to the lower mean value observed before treatment. Specifically, the mean value of VO2max increased from 38.46 ml/kg/minute before treatment to 47.83 ml/kg/minute after treatment. These results suggest that Zumba exercise enhances aerobic fitness by positively impacting cardiovascular biological mechanisms in young women during the transition to the new normal period.

Opis:
Background. Adequate nutrition and energy intake play key rule during the training period and recovery time. The assessment of athlete’s energetic needs should be calculated individually, based on personal energy expenditure and Sense Wear PRO3 Armband (SWA) mobile monitor is a useful tool to achieve this goal. However, there is still few studies conducted with use of this monitor. Objectives. To assess individual energy needs of athletes by use of SWA and to determine whether their energy intake fulfils the body’s energy expenditure. Material and Methods. Subjects were 15 male students attending Military University of Technology in Warsaw, aged 19-24 years, practicing aerobic. The average body mass was 80.7 ± 7.7 kg and average height was 186.9 ± 5.2 cm, (BMI 23.09 ± 1.85 kg/m2). Assessment of physical activity and energy expenditure (TEE) was established using SWA, which was placed on the back side of dominant hand and worn continuously for 48 hours (during the training and non-training day). The presented results are the average values of these 2 days. Assessment of athletes’ physical activity level was established by use of metabolic equivalent of task (MET) and number of steps (NS). Estimation of energy intake was based on threeday dietary recalls (two weekdays and one day of the weekend), evaluated using the Polish Software ‘Energia’ package. Results. The average TEE of examined athletes was 3877 ± 508 kcal/day and almost half of this energy was spend on physical activity (1898 ± 634 kcal/day). The number of steps was on average 19498 ± 5407 and average MET was 2.05 ± 2.09. The average daily energy intake was 2727 ± 576 kcal. Conclusions. Athletes consumed inadequate amount of energy in comparison to their energy expenditure. Examined group did not have an adequate knowledge about their energy requirement, which shows the need of nutritional consulting and education among these athletes.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Ocena spożycia energii została oparta o trzydniowe bieżące notowania spożycia (dwa dni poprzednie i jeden świąteczny) i obliczona przy pomocy programu komputerowego „Energia”. Wyniki.

The purpose of this study was to compare of two aerobic training methods on health-related physical fitness in 10 to 12 years old boys. Thirty-three male students (age 11.27±0.64 year, weight 40.58±9.03 kg, height 151.45±6.34 cm) were recruited from preliminary school and randomly were assigned into rope-jump training (n=12), running training (n=11) and control (n=10) groups. Due to the grouping, each for 8 weeks did the rope jumping or running. Before and after the 8-week training period, factors of health-related fitness, including flexibility, muscular endurance, aerobic power and fat Percentage of the subjects were measured. The results indicated a significant positive effect of rope-jumping training on aerobic power, muscular endurance and body composition and meaningful improvement of aerobic power and body composition by running training (p≤0.05). Due to increasing urbanization and lack of space in homes and schools, rope-jump training can be a good alternative rather than running for physical fitness promotion.

Opis:
The aims of this study were to investigate whether the running anaerobic sprint test, lactate minimum and critical velocity protocol can be applied in shuttle futsal testing, and to investigate if these protocols provide related variables. Seven male welltrained futsal players were evaluated. The lactate minimum test (LacMin) consisted of three phases: a) a hyperlactatemia phase using the running anaerobic sprint test (RAST); b) recovery phase; c) an incremental shuttle test for the lactate minimum speed (LMS) determination. Successful rate (SR) was calculated for feasibility analysis. Peak, mean and minimum power and fatigue index were obtained by the RAST application (six bouts – 35 meters). The critical velocity protocol (CV) was applied through three exhaustive shuttle tests (12, 13 and 14 km/h) with distances of 20 meters. Critical velocity (Cv) and anaerobic running capacity (ARC) were analysed by the linear (velocity vs.1/tlim) and hyperbolic (time vs.velocity) models. Fits of regression (R²) were considered as the main result for feasibility analysis of CV. ANOVA showed a difference between linear (11.04 ±0.55 km/h) and LMS (9.67 ±0.50 km/h), and no significant correlation was observed between them. High SR (85.71%) was observed for LacMin, and high R² for CV (linear-R² = 0.99 ±0.04; hyperbolic-R² = 0.98 ±0.02).Overall, the RAST, LacMin and CV can be successfully applied in shuttle futsal testing, nonetheless, precaution is necessary since the test results were not related.

Opis:
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare values of aerobic performance in the 1-mile run test (1-MRT) using different formulae. Material and Methods: Aerobic capacities of 351 male volunteers working for the Turkish National Police within the age range of 20-23 years were evaluated by the 1-MRT and the 20-metre shuttle run (20-MST). $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ values were estimated by the prediction equations developed by George et al. (1993), Cureton et al. (1995) and Kline et al. (1987) for the 1-MRT and by Leger and Lambert (1982) for the 20-MST. Results: The difference between the results of the different formulae was significant (p = 0.000). The correlation coefficient between the estimated $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ using Cureton's equation, George's equation, Kline's equation and the 20-MST were 0.691 (p < 0.001), 0.486 (p < 0.001) and 0.608 (p < 0.001), respectively. The highest correlation coefficient was between the $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ estimated by the 20-MST and Cureton's equation. Similarly, the highest correlation coefficient (r = -0.779) was between the 1-mile run time and the $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ estimated by Cureton's equation. Conclusions: When analysing more vigorous exercise than sub-maximal exercise, we suggest that Cureton's equation be used to predict the $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ from 1-mile run/walk performance in large numbers of healthy individuals with high $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$. This research compares the use of 3 different formulae to estimate $\text{VO}_\text{2max}$ from 1-mile run/walk performance in male law enforcement officers aged 20-23 years for the first time and reports the most accurate formula to use when evaluating aerobic capacities of large numbers of healthy individuals.
