In recent years, metal additive manufacturing developed intensively and became a relevant technology in industrial production of highly complex and function integrated parts. However, almost all additively manufactured parts must be post-processed in order to fulfil geometric tolerances, surface quality demands and the desired functional properties. Thus, additive manufacturing actually means the implementation of additive-subtractive process chains. Starting with the most relevant additive processes (powder-based PBF-LB, LMD-p and wire-based WAAM and LMD-w/WLAM), considering intermediate process steps (heat treatment and shot peening) and ending up with post-processing material removal processes (with defined and undefined cutting edges), this paper gives an overview of recent research findings with respect to a comprehensive scientific investigation of influences and interactions within the additive-subtractive process chain. This includes both the macroscopic geometric scale and the microscopic scale of the material structure. Finally, conclusions and future perspectives are derived and discussed.

In this study, we propose a cooling structure manufactured using a specialized three-dimensional (3D) printing design method. A cooling performance test system with complex geometry that used a thermoelectric module was manufactured using metal 3D printing. A test model was constructed by applying additive manufacturing simulation and computational fluid analysis techniques, and the correlation between each element and cooling efficiency was examined. in this study, the evaluation was conducted using a thermoelectric module base cooling efficiency measurement system. The contents were compared and analyzed by predicting the manufacturing possibility and cooling efficiency, through additive manufacturing simulation and computational fluid analysis techniques, respectively.

Opis:
The novel fuel additive LiBH4 was introduced as an energetic component for its outstanding hydrogen content, perfect burning performance and high reactivity. In order to limit the hygroscopicity and to improve the stability in the air, LiBH4 was coated on the surface with wax and polyester carbonate. The final product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron energy spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy, while the stability in air was investigated by regular checking of variations in weight. The results show that a uniform coating layer was formed on the surface of the LiBH4, and the coverage was estimated from the boron content as approximately 82%. A healing effect was confirmed on defective surfaces exposed to air; the coating layer improves the relative stability by 50.7%. Furthermore, LiBH4 as an additive to promote the thermal decomposition of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-trazinane (RDX) and ammonium perchlorate (AP) was explored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), in which the catalytic effects of pure LiBH4 and coated LiBH4 were compared, and indicated that the coating does not decrease the reactivity of LiBH4. It is suggested that surface coating with some inert materials is a simple and effective method for improving the storage and performance of LiBH4, while ensuring its reactivity.

Recently, this technology has become one of the fastest-growing methods of manufacturing parts. The paper provides brief notes on the creation of composites using RP methods, such as stereolithography, selective laser sintering or melting, laminated object modelling, fused deposition modelling or three-dimensional printing. The emphasis of this work is on the methodology of composite fabrication and the variety of materials used in these technologies.

Opis:
Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive coccus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram-negative bacterium) are the leading etiologic agents of biofilm-related, life-threatening infections in patients after orthopaedic implantations. The aim of the present paper is to estimate the ability of these two bacterial strains to form a biofilm on bioresorbable composites manufactured from polylactide (PLA) and hydroxyapatite (HA) with the use of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) method. Methods: Microbiological tests were conducted on two variants of a solid specimen made with additive laser technology. Samples with different content of hydroxyapatite were made, with appropriate manufacturing parameters to ensure stability of both composite ingredients. The geometry of samples was obtained by technical computed tomography. Microbiological tests determined the number of bacterial cells after incubation. Results: The results indicate significantly decreased ability of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa to form biofilms on the surface of materials with higher content of hydroxyapatite ceramics. Conclusions: The data may be useful for future applications of SLS technology in the production of bioresorbable PLA/HA medical implants

Damping-off disease caused by Pythium ultimum can kill both germinating seeds and young seedlings and cause considerable damage in safflower cultivation. An estimation of heritability lets safflower breeders determine the most effective method for improving seedling emergence in soils  infected  with P. ultimum, the causal agent of seed rot and damping-off. Two cycles of selection were performed to estimate the realized heritability of resistance to the pathogen in five safflower populations. Undamaged seedlings were selected as resistant individuals and were kept to produce seed. The results showed that selection for two consecutive generations increased the emergence of seedlings in Pythium-infected soil from 46 to 53 %. The heritability estimates varied between 1.72 and 77.66 % over the genotypes and environments, in inverse proportion to the severity of the disease. Estimates of heritabilities showed that genes conferring resistance to P. ultimum in safflower are highly heritable and would respond to selection breeding, particularly in some of the studied genotypes, like Isfahan and Zarghan259. However,  different breeding methods must be explored for other genotypes.

The author discusses Ewa Walusiak's proposal to distinguish three homogenous and synonymous language units belonging to three groups: prepositions, particles and conjunctions. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of various additives (straw, grass, molasses, dried sugar beet pulp – pellets, inoculant, organic acids) on the quality and fermentation profile of Virginia fanpetals (Sida hermaphrodita L.) silage. Silage samples were assayed for the content of dry matter – DM, crude ash, crude protein – CP, water soluble carbohydrates – WSC, neutral detergent fiber – NDF, acid detergent fiber – ADF and acid detergent lignin – ADL as well as pH and the concentrations of ammonia nitrogen, lactic acid, acetic acid and butyric acid. Silage quality was evaluated according to the DLG Key. Apparent digestibility was determined in sheep, and the digestibility coefficients of DM, CP, NDF, organic matter – OM and digestible OM were calculated. The tested additives increased DM, decreased ADL content (P≤0.01), and reduced WSC utilization (P≤0.05, P≤0.01) in silages. Only sugar beet pulp decreased the content of NDF and ADF (P≤0.01). All silages had similar pH values (4.01 - 4.10). The analyzed silages were characterized by intense lactic acid fermentation, which was inhibited only by the grass additive (P≤0.01). All additives suppressed acetic acid fermentation (P≤0.05, P≤0.01). Grass and sugar beet pulp significantly decreased the concentration of butyric acid (P≤0.01). The addition of grass decreased CP digestibility (from 92.1% in the control silage to 89.3%), whereas the addition of a bacterial inoculant (P≤0.01) and a blend of organic acids (P≤0.05) increased CP digestibility to 93.8% and 92.8%, respectively. The addition of grass and sugar beet pulp increased the coefficient of NDF digestibility by 6 percentage points relative to 60.9% in the control silage. The addition of the inoculant and organic acids decreased NDF digestibility to 56.0% and 50.5%, respectively. Dried sugar beet pulp was the most effective additive, which positively affected the chemical composition, fermentation profile and apparent digestibility of Sida silage.

The paper presents a new methodology dedicated to design for additive manufacturing. Based on a hybrid algorithm of topological optimization, the method enables application of advanced constraints and validates solutions “on the fly” using virtual prototyping. Advanced constraints consider the influence of directions of additive manufacturing as well as the equivalent stress. In the optimization framework, real material properties related to three manufacturing directions were considered. The new design methodology is illustrated by benchmark tests and examples of wrist-hand orthosis topology optimization in which stress and manufacturing constraints were taken into account. As demonstrated by the conducted comparison tests with available commercial tools, the solutions obtained with the new method were characterized by lower mass and shorter computation time.

The paper presents design and manufacturing process of an individualized ankle orthosis using additive manufacturing technologies and reverse engineering. Conventional processes of manufacturing of orthoses are expensive and time consuming Thus, an alternative method was proposed. The patient’s leg was 3D scanned and the orthosis was designed using a CAD system. It was then manufactured using the Fused Deposition Modelling technology, assembled and fully tested. Positive results were obtained.

The paper discusses the results of research on the preparation of food grade potassium di- and triphosphates and the application thereof as multiphosphate ingredients of functional additives for meat processing. The research on the process of potassium multiphosphate manufacture was performed with the use of equipment corresponding to that used on an industrial scale, facilitating thereby the transfer of the process conditions to a commercial level. The aim of the work was to obtain potassium di- and triphosphate products readily soluble in water and NaCl solutions, determination of optimum parameters of the manufacturing processes, and an application of the products obtained along with sodium multiphosphates in functional phosphate additives for selected meat products. The research presented here is part of an on-going project.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) for metal part can be divided into two different types: The powder technology and the wire technology. Usually, powder is adapted for fine components and small parts whereas wire is used for structural components and large scale part. One of the main benefits of AM is to simplify assemblies by reducing the number of components and to provide a large freedom of design. A standard AM system consists of a combination of three blocks: a motion system, a heat source and a feedstock. For Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), the heat source is a welding generator and the feedstock is a wire. The motion system generally used is a 6 axis robot or a CNC machine. This paper aims to propose a methodology to generate 5 axis toolpaths for WAAM and highlight the main parameters which selection is a key issue to resolve. The goal is to compare 3 axis and 5 axis toolpaths on part accuracy, depending the clearance angle of the part.

The research of taxonomic structure of holdings owning agricultural tractors in EU countries was conducted on the basis of statistical information from EUROSTAT database, for 2013 year. The purpose of this article was to present level of equipment of holdings in European Union countries in agricultural tractors in the spatial aspect. The method of vector elimination was used in the analysis. Apart from the analysis concerning the fact of the possession of agricultural tractors according to areal groups of arable land in the European countries, the groups of countries with similar structure were distinguished. Percentage of holdings possessing tractors was related with the number of holdings in each groups of areal groups of arable land.

The prediction of component properties from the Additive manufacturing (AM) process poses a challenge. Therefore, this paper presents the development of a novel machine data (G-Code) based procedure as well as its programming implementation of a process simulation in ANSYS Mechanical for the fused layer modelling (FLM) process. For this purpose, an investigation of additively produced components with varying parameters made of polylactic acid (PLA) is carried out and simulated by means of the developed method. Application of the developed method makes it possible to predict the thermally induced distortion of PLA-Parts based on the machine data from the FLM process before production.

Instrumental methods of measuring the mechanical properties of bread can be used to determine changes in the properties of it during storage, as well as to determine the effect of various additives on the bread texture. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the mixture of plant components on the physical properties of wheat bread. In particular, the mechanical properties of the crumb and crust were studied. A sensory evaluation of the end product was also performed. The mixture of plant components included: carob fiber, milled grain red quinoa and black oat (1:2:2) – added at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 % – into wheat flour. The results showed that the increase of the addition of the proposed additive significantly increased the water absorption of flour mixtures. Moreover, the use of the mixture of plant components above 5% resulted in the increase of bread volume and decrease of crumb density. Furthermore, the addition of the mixture of plant components significantly affected the mechanical properties of bread crumb. The hardness of crumb also decreased as a result of the mixture of plant components addition. The highest cohesiveness was obtained for bread with 10% of additive and the lowest for bread with 25% of mixture of plant components. Most importantly, the enrichment of wheat flour with the mixture of plant components significantly reduced the crust failure force and crust failure work. The results of sensory evaluation showed that the addition of the mixture of plant components of up to 10% had little effect on bread quality.

The objectives of this work were concentrated to investigate the enhancement of petrol distillate production from crude oil after treating with two additives. Attempts were also made to find out the mechanisms, those are responsible for enhancing the quantity and quality of petrol from crude oil by straight run refining process. From this study, it has been illustrated that the yield of petrol was directly proportional to the lubricating oil and inversely proportional to the bitumen asphalt content in the hydrocarbon mixture influenced by both physical and chemical reasons. The yield of petrol was increased ca. 4% (w/w) when 0.25% (w/w) additive-1 was used for blending before distillation. The physical properties of distillate petrol product were studied as well as the chemical quality was determined by TGA, 1H- NMR and GC-MS photometer.

Opis:
The method of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is an additive manufacturing process and allows great freedom of component geometry due to the layer-by-layer structure. The LPBF components are printed on a substrate plate and must be separated from the plate afterwards. Support structures are used to attach LPBF components to the substrate plate and to sustain overhanging parts. The cutting of the components is mainly carried out by means of a sawing process using the support structure. The forces occurring during this process are very challenging because the component has to be cut off without damage or deformation. The present study investigates and discusses the resultant forces and vibrations during the sawing of LPBF components made of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V using two different support structures. The components were arranged on the substrate plate at angles of 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 45° and 90° to the direction of primary motion.

Opis:
Additive Manufacturing (AM) consist in producing parts by depositing material in successive layers. These step-by-step processes proposes new innovative directions for high value components: complex geometries are accessible without strong efforts (such as hollow or lattice structures which dramatically reduce the component weight while keeping their at least similar mechanical properties), assemblies can be simplified, spare parts can be realized at demand... Hence, AM has benefitted from large research efforts over the last decade, almost all existing industrial sectors have benefitted from them. This paper introduces some opportunities and the associated challenges attached to Additive Manufacturing, to produce large metallic components for naval aeronautics and train industries. In particular, two innovative approaches are discussed in details: hybrid manufacturing and twin manufacturing. Hybrid manufacturing consists in integrating AM together with other processes for the realization of components, with the objective to benefit from the interests of each process while avoiding its drawbacks. Hence, AM can realize complex geometries or offer low buy-to-fly ratios while high speed machining generates very good surface properties (position, roughness). Processes can be carried out sequentially or simultaneously on the features to manufacture and finding the optimal manufacturing work plan can be challenging. The paper introduces some hybrid approaches developed in the laboratory. Twin manufacturing uses models and multiphysics simulation methods to create a digital clone of the process implementation within the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing preparation and optimization can be carried in the virtual workshop where various configurations and choices can be tested before being selected. To enhance its accuracy, the digital twin can also be fed by monitoring data captured during the process. Several digital twins developed in the laboratory are provided. The paper is illustrated with several proof-of-concept parts made with SLM, LMD, WAAM and hybrid approaches in the laboratory. Among them, a hollow propellers that has the same hydrodynamics efficiency for a reduced weight for the naval industry, an aircraft structural panel that demonstrates simplified assemblies increased performance/mass ratio, a train component that shows the ability to produce structural parts at demand.

In recent years, a rapid increase in the use of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies in medicine, especially in the manufacturing of the diagnostic models, can be observed. In some cases, there is a need to fabricate transparent models that allow visualization of internal structures of the object. Unfortunately, techniques used to manufacture such models are often very expensive and time-consuming. The above-mentioned issues were the motivation for developing a new method of fabrication transparent models for visualization of internal structures for planning surgical treatments. This paper presents the process of making transparent models using the newly developed method – the stacked layers method. In order to compare this new method and one of the most common 3D printing technologies – fused deposition modeling (FDM) – the models for two medical cases using both of these methods were fabricated. As a result of this work, it can be concluded that the stacked layers method provides faster and cheaper way of making transparent medical models. The main features of fabrication process that have a huge impact on quality of the models made by new method were pointed. The results of this study suggest that models fabricated with the use of this method can be useful as a diagnostic tool in medical applications for planning surgical treatments.

Modifying Mawhin's definition of the GP-integral we define a well-behaved integral over n-dimensional compact intervals. While its starting definition is of Riemann type, we also establish an equivalent descriptive definition involving characteristic null conditions. This characterization is then used to obtain a quite general form of the divergence theorem.
