Opis:
The issue of alcohol consumption, addiction to it, and causes and effects of this phenomenon have already been explored many times. The article describes current pedagogical and legal activities taken in Poland towards people addicted to alcohol and related controversy . The authors drew attention to a number of problems concerning with alcohol addiction for an alcohol abuse person and his family. Starting from the current law on upbringing in sobriety and counteracting alcoholism because it takes up issues related to treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration of people addicted to alcohol. There are institutions established on its basis and take up actions aimed at diagnosing the problem of an individual’s addiction to alcohol, leading to a ruling and requiring the person addicted to alcohol to undergo treatment. In the article the stages of treatment have been described in detail, requriments, important person for example probation officer and possible to receive treatment from non-governmental organizations that help those addicted and thus create an option for those addicted to alcohol to self-organize. The authors emphasized that the process of freeing from alcohol addiction is incredibly difficult and sometimes prolonged. Thus, the compulsory character of rehab treatment sparks a lot of controversy, as it contradicts the right to self-determination, i.e. independent decision of the person addicted to take up the treatment. There is a need to search new solutions in this respect, develop tools that increase the effectiveness of activities taken towards those addicted and exchange experiences on the global scale.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to analyze the alcohol addiction of Erwin Sommer, the main character in the novel The Drinker by Hans Fallada. This article focuses solely on his alcohol-related problems, and not on that of his temporary stay in prison or in sanatorium. The analysis of Sommer’s alcohol addiction is based not only on literary studies and the biography of the writer but most of all on current medical studies concerning alcoholism. I also compare Erwin Sommer with another classic figure with respect to literature about alcoholism – Jack London and his famous autobiographical novel John Barleycorn. Although the symptoms of alcoholism by Erwin Sommer are actually typical, the aetiology of his alcohol addiction is not so obvious. For this reason, I attempt to discover the real genesis of his disease. The basis of my considerations are, among others, the classification of alcohol disease stages, developed by E. M. Jellinek, the precursor of alcoholism studies, the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems ICD-10 created by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the S3-Guideline, published by the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies, German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology, and German Society of Addiction Studies and Addiction Therapy. In current scientific articles and studies about alcohol-related problems, one can find plenty of details which are very helpful to fully understand Hans Fallada’s life and his fascinating and frightening report about the social, financial and personal fall of a human being.

Opis:
The article tackles the question of the emergence, as well as the characteristics, of the psychological mechanisms of addiction in individuals with prolonged and intensive alcohol intake, and indications for therapeutic work with such individuals in the course of a basic programme of therapy for alcohol addicts. Excessive, prolonged and intensive drinking leads to the emergence of addiction- specific psychological mechanisms which encompass the emotional sphere of the individual concerned, the cognitive sphere and the centre of personality i.e. the structure of Self. The emotional sphere witnesses the emergence of the addictive mechanism of regulating one’s emotions, the mind of an addict sees the creation of an illusion and denial mechanism, while the Self structure experiences the mechanism of diffusion and splitting. The combined effect of these mechanisms destroys an individual’s life and centres it around drinking. The author stresses the significance of therapeutic work on the ‘breaking down’ of these mechanisms and on solving those personal problems which constitute a constant source in activating the mechanisms. Therapeutic work in the basic therapy programme concentrates mainly on the understanding and acceptance of one’s addiction, coping with alcohol craving, recognising the destruction alcohol brings and admitting helplessness in relation to alcohol. Work on the mechanisms should commence in the first meeting with the patient, in order to prevent drink relapse.

Opis:
As statistics in Poland show, more and more younger people reach for alcohol and, what is more, they struggle to control their drinking. This often leads to a number of serious consequences for all health, economic, psychological, and social ones. They include beatings, injuries, loss of material property or even conflict with the law. Uncontrolled chemical intoxication may even lead to the long-term consequences which is e.g. addiction to alcohol. In some countries, they apply a form of assistance to people drinking in a risky way, and not only to them, which is aimed at the acquisition of skills for controlling alcohol consumption. There are used a number of methods and progressive stages of dealing with the client, so that he or she would learn controlled drinking. Therefore, not only this article briefly presents the causes and mechanisms of addiction resulting in the wide range of consequences, but also is the proposal for a strategy of assistance for young adults focused on the acquisition of skills in controlling the use of alcohol, as well as shows the results of the effectiveness of this form of assistance in some countries in the world.

Opis:
Paradigms constitute a model description of the problems and their solutions. They are important as certain methods of work, ideas for interpreting e.g. behaviour of people, in need for help, criteria for success or failure come from them. Recent years have brought an important change, which can still be seen happening, of paradigms in theraupetic rehabilitation in the area of understanding addicts as well as the understanding of addiction itself. The change influences the occurences of new therapeutic programs, which are no longer focused on sobriety itself, but it also has a huge influence on programs limiting alcohol abuse nad reducing its negative consequences and damage. It must be emphasized that these are programs which are not designed for everyone and each of them is dedicated to strictly defined group of people with an addiction in a broad sense.
Paradygmaty stanowią modelowy opis problemów i rozwiązań. Są ważne, ponieważ wynikają z nich konkretne metody pracy, pomysły na interpretację np. zachowań osób, które wymagają pomocy, kryteria sukcesu lub porażki. W ostatnich latach w lecznictwie odwykowym zaczęła się i nadal trwa istotna zmiana dotychczas obowiązujących w nimparadygmatów w obszarze rozumienia osób uzależnionych i samego zjawiska uzależnienia.
